DVD'S I create do not play on every VCR?   How do I reset the VCR's?

I'm making DVD's from video tapes with a Roxio attatchment I bought..  The DVD's will go into my Imovie and then I put them on IDVD to burn them to DVD_R's They play on my computer and my VCR that I have downstairs in my basement but they won't play on my VCR in my living room?  Is there a way to format them and finalize them?  I thought DVD_R didn't need finalizing?

Hi
You can try
• High quality brand of DVD - I use Verbatim DVD-R
• SET down burn speed to x4 = less burn errors = Plays on more Players
• Use a DVD cleaning disk - now and then in burner and player
