DVD's not working

Hi ... I am having a compaq presario v3425au notebook. From yesterday onwards I have observed a peculiar issue in my lappie. Cd's are working fine but DVD's are not getting detected.. I tried with a new sony DVD also but of no use.... I tried different CD's also.. no problenm with CD's but with DVD's only... the DVD's are working fine in other PC's and notebooks..i googled and searched here also for some answers and i have already done the registry fix for removing uppoer and lower filters.. not working .. need to try the microsoft fixit.. can anybody suggest something else?
Also in my lappie the speaker has stopped functioning after a long time.. i am able to hear the sounds through a headphone or an external speaker.. I have tried reinstalling the drivers... no use.. any suggestions?
regards,
sairam.s

Maybe time for a new laptop...on combo optical drives there is a dvd laser and a cd laser and one can go bad. The fixit is not going to work if the drive shows up in Windows Explorer at all, with dvds or cds. As far as the speakers yes they can go bad, too. Both parts can be replaced fairly easily and cheaply but what is going to go out next?

  • Dvd drive not worked properly

i have  hp pavilion dv4 series.my dvd drive not worked properly.for that purpose only i went 7 times in your service centre but they won't take action  till now .why u people do like this .i want explation and just change my  dvd drive that's all.

    tcrite,
Sounds like a bad drive...I would get a replacement. According to Accelerate Your Mac database, it should work without issue.
Just enter the model number of the drive and select your Powerbook G3 2000, and you will see four reports on this model.

    Hi,
First, try the automated fixit from Microsoft on the link below.
    Windows 7
    Vista
Check if the drive is now working.
If it still doesn't work, click the Start Menu, open All Programs, open Accessories, right click the Command Prompt and select 'Run as Administrator'.  In to the prompt type the following command and hit enter.
sfc /scannow                 ( note that there is a space between sfc and the / )
Let the process complete, then type exit and hit enter.
Next, click the Start Menu, open the Control Panel and click on Device Manager.  Next click to open DVD/CD-ROM Drives.  Right click the drive and select uninstall.  Do not delete drivers if asked.  When the device has uninstalled click on the 'Scan for Hardware Changes' icon ( usually just below Help on the toolbar ).  Let windows reinstall the drive and see if it now works.

    Hi,
A DVD drive that is not working after many years not used:
most probably dust on the little laser lens.
Take the drive out and if you can reach this lens: clean it with pure alcohol on Q-Tip.
Many people throw away cd or dvd players all the time because they stopped working, and very often it can easily be fixed by cleaning this lens.
I used to have a G5, where I couldn't access that lens. It was very sensitive to dust.
I have fixed it several times with compressed air. One time I didn't have canned air, but a bikepump did the trick.
If you have another mac, I'd try to access the G4 internal disk with firewire target disk mode.
    good luck

  • Can I restore my system from install discs when DVD is not working?

Can I restore my system from install discs when DVD is not working?
There is a disc jammed in the drive and when I try to do an install in Target Firewire mode using a G5 Tower I get an error saying the software cannot be installed on this machine, before I can even select the iMac's drive. I'm using the grey software install discs that came with the iMac.
Is my only option to open up the iMac and get the jammed disc out?
    Thanks

Problem solved - I posted on the general Tiger Discussions as well.
I had the wrong machine started in Target Firewire mode.

  • Optical DVD drive not working properly: HP notebook g61

Game disks and dvd movie disks not working consistently. Sometimes detected as empty dvd disk and asks if I want to burn to the disk. Other times does not read that there is a disk in the drive. Computer is about one month old. On one of my game disks, I have to reinsert 4 or 5 times before it will read properly. Any suggestions?

Sounds like you use the disk drive a lot. Before we panic and recommend a new drive, try a DVD lens cleaner you can pick up at any place that sells a lot of DVDs, like even WalMart. Run the cleaner disk and see if that helps.

  • DVD drive not working with win 8.1

Hi. I have HP pavilion 15-e020TU notebook. My DVD drive worked with windows 7 and windows 8. After upgrading to windows 8.1 , the DVD drive is not working. Windows device manager can find the DVD drive but shows a yellow error mark. I selected "Update driver software" and then "Search automatically for updated driver software" . Then the name changed from "Mitsumi CD drive" to "hp DVD A DU8A5SH". And still not working. I installed the firmware update from http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=pv481en&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&jum... But a command prompt shows "Error: no mitsumi drives found." What can I do now ?

  • DVD drive not working on Satellite Pro U400-142

My DVD drive is not working. I insert a disk, can hear the drive working for some time but then nothing happens. I checked 'Device Manager' - under DVD/CD-ROM drives it shows: MAT****A DVD-RAM UJ862AS, but there is a black exclamation mark on a yellow circle next to it. I opened the 'Properties' dialogue box and under device status it says:
'Windows successfully loaded the device driver for this hardware but cannot find the hardware device. (Code 41)
I'd like to try to try to solve the problem by re-installing the driver. I have checked the Toshiba website for the driver, but cannot find it.
I'd be most grateful if someone could give me any ideas on how to sove this problem.
    Thanks
    P

What you can do is follow:
Remove optical disc drive from device manager and restart your notebook.
The drive should be recognized and installed properly. If the same happen again try please > http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/FAQ8101LA0000R01.htm

  • How to recover by recovery dvd if dvd rw not working

I have my recovery DVDs. but my DVD drive is not working properly.
In windows dvd can be read very hardly. and while booting from dvd to recover, system fails to read dvd. I have made iso images of dvd.
is ther anyway by which i can boot through iso image using pen drive?

You can still order a usb recovery media thuimbdrive from HP. The cost is quite reasonable.
Since you have not identified your notebook with a complete product number I have used information from another to help you. Follow the instructions on the document at the URL to order an HP USB recovery media flashdrive for your notebook.

See This HP web document if you don't how to locate the model number and\or product number.

  • DVD Drive Not Working in MDD 867 Mhz Dual

I have had intermittent problems with my DVD drive. Now the unit will not work at all. I can't eject the drive tray using the eject key on keyboard, and if I manually eject the tray using a paper clip, then insert a DVD and push the tray closed by hand, the disc will not appear on the desktop.
Is there any way to troubleshoot this device to tell if it's the drive itself, or something other than that?
    Thanks,
    Noel

It sounds like the drive, fairly cheap & easy to replace...

  • External DVD drive not working with Lombard G3 333

I have an external DVD drive that worked when I had 10.4, but had to reformat HD and now only have 10.3.9, and now the DVD drive does not work with DVDs, it will work with CDs and CDR media, but not with DVD media. My Lombard did not come with DVD originally and I am using a PC Card (Macintosh PowerBook DVD-Video PC Card For PowerBook G3 Series) and it worked before with 10.4, but not with 10.3, any ideas? Also have tried with 9.x, no go either. Any help would be appreciated.
Also, would it be difficult to add a DVD logic board to my Lombard?
    Joey

    xamdu,
I am reading and replying to this post after first replying to your other post, so a few of my previous comments are redundant.
Regarding the FireWire(?) USB 2.0(?) DVD drive: It is possible Tiger supported your DVD drive but Panther does not. I would give PatchBurn for Panther a try:
    http://patchburn.de/download.html
If the above is unsuccessful, take a look at this workaround:
    http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20040330171655882
You can swap logic boards but it does require a lot of disassembly.
Since no version of OSX supports Apple DVD Player, I am assuming you have a third-party player like VLC installed to watch movies. If this is the case, the DVD Decoder PC card is not necessary. If booted to 9.x, you of course will need the decoder PC card but I did not know 9.x's Apple DVD Player supported external drives.

  • Ideapad U110 - External DVD Player not working with Windows 7

I did a windows 7 upgrade on my U110 and now the external DVD drive will not function. The computer recognizes that a DVD driver is plugged in (in an explorer folder) but Windows 7 doesn't register the DVD when I plug it in and the computer cannot read the DVDs. It seems to be trying as there is noise emanating from the DVD drive and the light is blinking but no end result.
I've search high and low for a solution but non seem to exist. Lenovo support has no driver replacement. Their rep suggested reinstalling the Intel chipset for Vista which I've done and that didn't fix anything. Is there a solution out there? Has anyone else encountered this problem?
Oh and my internal microphone doesn't work either. I assume a related issue.
    Many thanks for any help.
    Alec

Here's one out of nowhere:  do you have CD/DVD software that includes Sonic DLA or something like it?  I've seen that take over drives and prevent normal operation.
If you right click on the drive and hit properties, are there any suspicious looking tabs?
Total WAG, and about 1% likely, but there you go.

  • DVD burning not working after upgrading to 10.5.1

    Hi,
I just purchased a macbook and found that dvd burning stopped working after upgrading to mac os 10.5.1. I went back to 10.5 and now it works without problems. Since so far I haven't experience problems with 10.5, I will continue using it.
Anyway, I just wanted to let other users know about this problem. I didn't find any references about it in the forum.
    Best wishes,
    Manuel

    Hi,
I just got DVD burning to work under 10.5.1. I had originally formatted the OS-X partition as "case sensitive". Today I reformatted the partition as a regular Mac-os journaled partition, re-installed leopard and the upgrade, and now DVD burning works fine. I am not 100% sure, but it seems that using the case sensitive format caused the problem.

  • DVD Player Not Working - Need Help Please!

My eMac is currently not reading DVDs. The drive will recognize and automatically play commercial music CDs and software, as well as burned music CDs. However, when a commercial DVD is inserted into a drive, not only will the DVD player not recognize or play it, the eMac does not even notice that there is a DVD in the disk drive.
Any suggestions or assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

    hi there--
there are a number of things for you to try. one is to do a pmu reset. instructions are found in step 6 of this article. http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=34885 if you have an ati graphics emac or later, then the pmu button is on the right side, not the left. if that doesn't work, then try resetting the firmware. boot to open firmware by holding apple-option-o-f and then type in the following commands--
    reset-nvram (hit return)
    set-defaults (hit return)
    reset-all (hit return)
the last command will restart the computer. if neither of those things works, then i would try booting to the install disk and running disk utility. http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214 if that fails, then i would create a test user (system preferences > accounts, then hit the plus sign) and see if there is any difference there. let me know how that is going for you.
