  • Non-protected DVD content onto iPod

Obviously with copy-protected content, we can't bring it into iTunes, but for other non-protected DVD's (training videos, my wedding video, etc), is there a simple way to compress and convert these to play on the iPod? I obviously would want it compressed to not take up space, since you shouldn't notice on the small screen...

  • How to get dvd movies onto ipod with windows

Okay, I have finally figured out how to get movies from DVD to ipod for windows users, and it's free, with no watermarks. It involves a 2-program process. First go and download Videora Ipod Converter at http://www.videora.com/en-us/Converter/iPod/
Then download DVDFab Decrypter at http://www.dvdidle.com/free.htm
Now after you have installed these onto your computer:
    1. Insert the DVD into your disc drive.
    2. Open DVDFab and open the DVD folder, video_ts or whatever it happens to be
    3. Select your target destination for the files to be saved
    4. Click start to begin copying the DVD.
    5. Once everything is done being saved open videora ipod converter
    6. Go to setup and select the one click profile which size of video you would like and the output of the files
    7. Go to convert and select new transcode video, find your video file and select open
    8. Wait for the file to be completed transcoding
    9. Open itunes and select file, add file to library, find the file(s) and select okay
    10. Most of you should know what to do form here

For anyone who wants to get up and running, these are the settings I use for Videora.
After days of experimenting, I settled on the settings below which seem to give a good balance between filesize and quality. There will be a bit of blockiness in the dark shadows but if it's too much, just increase the 'bitrate'. Experiment with a short video, but make sure the video you experiment with is very high quality or you won't know what is or isn't down to your settings.
Again, don't use h264. Only Quicktime Pro has h264 nailed. You may be able to get some things to work in h264 but more likely, you'll be watching a movie and it will suddenly stop, or your iPod's hard disk will start munching away to a black screen. mpeg-4 works fine in Videora, always. No problems.
    Video
    Mode: MPEG-4 > CBR
    Resolution: 320 x 240
Passes: One (two makes almost no difference except doubling the time)
    Bitrate: 384kbps
    Framerate: Input
    Audio
    Bitrate: 96kbps
    Channels: Stereo
    Sample Rate: Input
    Volume: 100%

  • Easiest/troublefree way of converting dvd's onto ipod

Can anyone recommend software that is not too expensive and easy to use to convert DVDs onto the ipod? If there is free software accessable online that anyone knows of, that would be even BETTER! Thanks.

Try this link http://www.afterdawn.com/software/videosoftware/dvd_rippers/dvddecrypter.cfm for some alternatives.

  • Can't put ripped DVD files onto iPod

I've ripped a couple of 1.5hr video files to MPEG4 format using Xilisoft's DVD to iPod software (very good by the way) but I can't get these files onto my iPod (I've checked them in Quicktime and they look fine).
I've tried importing into the library then manually dragging and dropping, but they just won't copy (I don't get any warning message either). Syncing doesn't work either.
    Anyone got any ideas?

What exactly happnes when you try to sync?
Was the iPod previous synced to another iTunes library/computer?
Have you successfully synced from this iTunes library/computer before?
Do the songs play in iTunes?
Do you have the right boxes checked to sync?

Did you set up the iPod on this computer?

Hi and Welcome to Apple Discussions ...
It depends on the format of the file. I agree with Mitch re: the suggestion for QuickTimePro... go here for Apple Tutorials: Creating video for iPod.
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/tutorials/creatingvideo.html
QuickTimePro is only $29 and available from the link above.

  • Dvd ripping to put home dvds onto ipod video

ok so i was told to use "decrypter" and so i went to google and typed it in and it came up with a few results
    the first one was:
    DVD Decrypter
so i click on that and this is what it says:
"This software is no longer available, this page is stored for archival puposes only.
On 24th of November, 2005, Macrovision Europe contacted AfterDawn.com, notifying us that they have acquired full rights to the DVD Decrypter software and have changed its licensing terms. Effective immediately, they have decided to withdraw all distribution rights from all third party companies, including AfterDawn.com. Thus, distributing DVD Decrypter is now as illegal as it would be to distribute cracked copies of Windows operating system or pirated copies of games."
ok so first off what does my trying to put dvds on my ipod have to do with pirated movies and games?
    anyways
    the second result was:
    DVD Fab Decrypter
so i click on that and this is what it says:
"This software is no longer available, this page is stored for archival puposes only.
On 1st of January, 2006, a new copyright legislation came into force in Finland that made it illegal to distribute tools that allow circumvention of technical copy protections. The legislation was approved by Finnish parliament and was based on European Union Copyright Directive, a law that each EU member state has to implement to their national legislations"
So basically how the heck do i get dvds on my ipod using decrypter if it's now illegal to use it?

The other poster is nothing more than a spammer, who has already been kicked off of these groups under another name, who only posts to spam this product (click on his/her/its name to see all the "help" it has offered other people only relating to this product). Any product that has to spam to get their product sold, should be given a cautious eye.

  • Video (DVD) on to IPods

I am new to the Mac world.
My question is can DVD's be put onto IPods? I live in Canada and I am not able to download movies from I Tunes. So what I would like to do is put the movies I have bought on to the IPod.
    Can this be done?

You find it by SEARCHING the forum! Look to the right of the screen you are on now....find "Search Discussions"....click on "more options'....it will bring you to a screen where you can put in your SEARCH parameters, type 'covert DVDs" or 'put video on iPod'...stuff like that....and BINGO, there you go!
On this forum more than any I frequent, the same questions are asked over and over...and I'm not busting on anyone, it's just that some very nice people here have taken the time to answer these question in great depth to teach us all. That's how I learned last year when I got my iPod for Xmas...and now, I think that's why they go unanswered because they have been done 100 times or more! This forum is packed with great info if you just take the time to find it...so grab a cool drink, Grasshopper, and dig in and have some fun....gary

  • I watched a full DVD on my iPod!!

I used Hand Brake to import the movie Saw onto my computer in MP4 format, then I used PSPware to compress it and format it into the iPod format (I have QuickTime Pro, but it goes alot slower than PSPware)
The quality of the DVD on the iPod was excellent- by far the best quality of any of my videos. The movie (Saw [Lions Gate Films]) played perfectly. As for the watching expirience- it was excellent- no struggles to see the movie, no squinting, and actually I was able to become imersed into the story as I would by watching it on the TV. I was on the edge of my seat peering into my iPod!
Great expirience, love the new iPod.

    Sean,
You may like this guide on getting from DVD to ipod. There is no need to use PSPWare.
I just tell HandBreak to save it in the iTunes Music Folder, and then i press rip, and a few minutes later i have the video in iTunes [and would be on iPod if you have auto-update]
Also if you have existing MP4 files, just change the '.mp4' into '.m4v' and drag to iTunes. Thats it!
