Dvd's won't play with snow leopard

ever since I installed snow leopard when I put a dvd movie in to play it won't. when the dvd comes up on the desktop and I open it, it opens the dvd audio and video ts files and not the actual movie. has anyone ever heard of this? I can't get the movie to play. thanks in advance.

you have dvd player 5.0.1.
The dvd app version that comes with SL is 5.2. Try doing a custom install of the dvd application from the SL installer disc.
Snow Leopard Installer discs include an Optional Installs installer. Launch this installer.
Just launch the installer and click the Continue buttons until you reach the Custom Install screen. Click the triangle next to Applications, click the box next to the application you want to custom install, and click the Install button to install the application.
If you’d like to reinstall applications that aren’t offered in the Custom Install screen—applications in the Utilities folder or in the Bundled Software folder for example—you can use Pacifist.
To use Pacifist:
Insert your Mac OS X Installer disc. Download Pacifist and launch it. In the window that appears click the Open Apple Install Discs button. A window will appear offering you the single choice to look at the OSInstall package. Click OK.
Pacifist will churn away for a bit and then you’ll see a window titled OSInstall.mpkg. In this window you can dig down through the hierarchy of folders to find what you seek or you can enter the name of what you’re after in the Find field and press Return. A drawer appears that lists the names of matching files.
To install an item click the Install button in the upper-left corner of the window. You’ll be prompted for your administrator’s password. Enter it, click OK, and the item will be installed into its proper location on your Mac’s hard drive.

  • IPhoto videos won't play with Snow Leopard

Snow Leopard is hostile to my fonts, my trackpad, and now my iPhoto videos. When I double-click on the videos, they no longer open in QuickTime or do anything, they won't play. Any suggestions? (Uninstall Snow Leopard?)
    Thanks in advance.

I deleted that post 5 times b/c it was a mistake, I do not have iPhoto 5, I have iPhoto 08. If iPhoto 08 is glitchey with Snow Lion, what am I supposed to do, buy iLife? It's not inexpensive.

  • Leopard won't play with Snow Leopard

I have just purchased a Mac Pro 8 core 2.26 to move on from my PPC G5. All gone well apart from errors of my own making but Quark 7.5 won't run on 10.6.3. I have a second internal drive that I want to install Leopard onto so that I have the option of booting into either but 10.6 won't let me boot from a 10.5 disc to install the OS. Any ideas short of a clean install?
    Thanks

It isn't 10.6 that won't let you boot from a 10.5 installer disc but the Mac itself. That's what Niel meant: the installer disc must have at least a version of OS X as new as the one that came with your Mac to work. That means that if your Mac came with 10.6.2, an installer disc with 10.6 on it will not work, much less any version of 10.5.
Moreover, the latest Macs may require a special build of Snow Leopard newer than you can currently get anywhere other than from the system discs that came with it. That's because only those discs may have all the drivers necessary to support the newest hardware used in the newest Macs.

  • I used Roxio VHS to DVD for Mac (have iMac with Snow Leopard) and the audio does not synch with the video when playing in iMovie.  Any suggestions to fix?

I used Roxio VHS to DVD for Mac (have iMac with Snow Leopard) and the audio does not synch with the video when playing in iMovie.  Any suggestions to fix?

Thanks for the reply.  I tried playing with detaching the audio in iMovie, but with 20+ hours of video to correct, it would take too long.  After 28 hours, Corel/Roxio tech support replied that it is a known bitrate mismatch problem and they have no real fix.  I strongly suggest not to buy this product.

  • Is DVD Studio Pro 4 compatible with Snow Leopard 10.6.8?

Is DVD Studio Pro 4 compatible with Snow Leopard? Project burns fine, simulates fine, works on my two macs (mac pro & macbook pro networked) but when I put the dvd in to a dvd played hooked to a tv it doesn't recoginize it and says "this disc connot be played"!

It's your set top DVD player that won't play the disk...  That or it's the type of disk that you're using.
    Make sure it's a DVD-R.  That's a MINUS.
They pretty much work in all set top DVD players.
The reason your computers play the dvd's is simply because your computer knows what to do with all types of media.  Something else to consider could be the optical read capability on your computer is better than that of your DVD player.  Perhaps the DVD is a poor quality disk.  You computer can read it because it has a higher quality optical pickup unit.
First things first, take your DVD to a place that sells DVD players and try it in a new player.  That'll tell you whether or not the disk actually works.

  • DVD Studio Pro 4 - Compatibility with Snow Leopard

Since installing Snow Leopard I have been unable to start DVD Studio Pro (4.0.3) - it shuts down immediately. I've tried getting the latest update for both Snow Leopard and DVD Studio Pro but that hasn't helped. Any suggestions?

If it worked and is Non-UB eventually issues could crop up, more so as more into the newer versions of the OS come out I would guess. But if you were running the version of DVD SP on your laptop with Snow Leopard and then after the software updates it stopped running, then in all likelihood it sounds like that one of the updates may have broke DVD SP in SL. Which updates did you install and can you roll back the system prior to the new software updates?
Deleting preferences could be something to also try.
    User-> Prefs -> com.apple.dvdstudiopro.plist
You can also try to create another user account to see if that helps.

  • DVD Player app won't work with Snow Leopard

I installed Snow Leopard recently. I tried to watch a DVD with DVD player. It wouldn't work. I got this message in a box: "You can't use this version of the application DVD Player with this version of Mac OS X. You have DVD Player 5.0.3."
I looked for a recent DVD player update/download and could not find one. Same with Snow Leopard updates...
Does anybody know the fix or the workaround?
    Thanks,
    Estel Dillon

    HI,
Download and install the 10.6.2 combo update available here.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL959
    Then repair disk permissions.
Quit any open applications/programs. Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac.
In the future, when updating system software, click the Apple Menu  /Software Updates. If that doesnt't work then go here: http://support.apple.com/downloads/ and use the standalone installers.
*The DVD Player application is not available to reintall from the SL disc*. If after the suggestions above haven't helped, then back up your important data before you do anything, then reinstall Snow Leopard.
You can reinstall the following apps from your SL disc.
    Address Book
    iCal
    iChat
    iTunes
    Mail
    Oxford Dictionaries
    Safari
    and X11

  • Epson C88 Won't Print with Snow Leopard

C88 won't print using Snow Leopard. Downloaded driver from Epson doesn't help.????

Like you, I'm working with an Epson C-88+. Happy with this situation, would not be exactly accurate. I have tried some different approaches, including the ones from John and Kappy. They would work just fine for about 3 days, then fail. I even went back to the Snow Leopard Install DVD/ Optional Installs/ Options.MPKG/ Printer Support and made a choice. I then went to Disk First Aid and everything was fine. Today, I went to print 1 envelope, total dismal failure. I then downloaded the EPSON Printer Drivers 2.1, I proceeded to install the drivers. Did anybody notice, this was an Apple License, not an EPSON License? Therefore, there are no assurances, that these print drivers are in fact, EPSON. Therefore, AppleCare should be required to support these Print Drivers as Apple Licensed Products. But equally so, we as 'dumb endusers' must try to work with AppleCare to solve this issue. To "pete.purvis" John and Kappy, sorry, you guys have proven yourselves to be out of the "dumb endusers group, I just want to say, THANK YOU!

  • HP Laserjet 4mp won't print with Snow Leopard

My great Laserjet 4mp prints just fine with OS 10.5.8 but not with Snow Leopard (10.6.2) on my new iMac. Have spent three plus hours with senior level Mac Techs to no avail. The printer screen shows the correct printer and driver and indicating valid connection, but when attempting to print I get the message "Unable to print, try again in 30 secs". Since 10.6 doesn't have Appletalk, am unable to use it; techs have tried to use the 4mp driver supplied with Snow Leopard and also downloaded it separately from the web site. We (they) have also tried using all methods (IP, Daemon, and HP Jet Direct using Ethernet and Serial to USB connections). Techs have talked with HP techs and have no other solutions. The security system is off. Any suggestions are welcome! Thanks!

I've read the threads and don't understand some, but I think we (the Apple support techs and I) have tried the ones I recognize. One new idea--in a reply to a similar post someone mentioned being sure to use additional data when using the IP address-- submask address or some such, I
haven't been told to do this--should I? (I can get it from the printer readout if told what to get.) Also, in another post someone suggested deleting the OS 10.5.8 driver that was transferred when all the data from my old iMac G5 was moved over, saying that it would interfere. If true, how do I do that?
What I really need is a stepwise instruction on which connection to use (Ethernet, Serial to USB, or parallel port are the only options); which protocol to use (IPP, Line Printer Daemon, or HP Jet Direct socket, whatever they are); what to put in the Address line (the IP address is the one used by Apple techs); what to put in the Queue line (techs said to leave it blank); what to put in Name and Location blocks, if anything; and what to put in the Print Using line (techs have unsuccessfully tried Autoselect, Generic, and the HP4mp driver selected both from the Select Printer Driver option and from the driver downloaded directly from the HP web site).
I'd be grateful for this help or even advice on where I can get it! (With this new computer I still have free telelphonic Apple tech support but they've given up.) Thanks!

  • Help! Aperture won't work with Snow Leopard...

I know you will all probably laugh at me because I have just upgraded to Snow Leopard.  The problem is that nobody told me my Aperture wouldn't work anymore! I can't even open it to retrieve my photos...(btw, this is why I was hesitant to upgrade...but I had to because I got the iphone 5 which wouldn't sync with my itunes version and that wouldn't update unless I went to snow leopard...and so on....).
So, the problem is that I need Aperture version 2.0. so I can update that to 2.1.4 and be compatible with Snow Leopard.  I have 1.5.6 and kept it that way because it was working for me and I just basically use Aperture as a photo storage system. I can't find 2.0 anywhere. I can't figure out how to uninstall snow leopard either. I need my photos back asap.
    Any suggestions?
    Thank you in advance,
    Debi

    One more question, debi.
Does your Aperture icon show a circular ring like the ghostbusters? Like below for my CCC?
And is the "Kind" listed as "Application (PowerPC)" when you use "Get Info ⌘I)? That would indicate that your current Aperture version is still a PowerPC application. Then you can still make it run on Snow Leopard. You have to make sure that your Snow Leopard installation includes the Rosetta environment.
Do you have a Snow Leopard install disk? Look into the "Optional Installs" folder on this disk and open the "Optional Installs" package. Proceed as described in the second part of this
    article:
    http://www.macworld.com/article/1167117/reinstalling_rosetta.html
If your Aperture 2 version is still a PoerPC app, installing Rosetta should enable you to run the aperture 2 installer from your installation disk and then upgrade to Aperture 2.1.4.

  • HP 7400 printer won't work with Snow Leopard.

I recently updated my iMac to Snow Leopard and now I can't print to my HP OfficeJet 7400.  I know the printer works, as I can print from my laptop which is on Windows 7.  Any recommendations to get my iMac with Snow Leopard to print to my 7400?

Have you downloaded the HP 10.6 printer drivers?  http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=mp-76195-1 &cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&os=219&product=391194&sw_lang=

  • HP Printer Won't Work With Snow Leopard

Hi, I hope you can help. I have just upgraded to Snow Leopard and my HP printer won't print. It is a Laserjet 1015 and new drivers are meant to be on the list with SN. My iMac recognises the printer is there but cannot make a connection. I am networking it using an Airport which is working fine. I have even reset the printer system and deleted the printer and added it again but after starting to process a document to print it just stops.
The other thing is that Pages v 1.0.2 also won't work now. I can open the software, but it can't open any existing documents nor will it open a new blank template. This is my work software (I'm a journalist) so this is a real worry. Any suggestions??
    Thanks so much
    Jo

    Hi JoJoh,
I can't be of much help with the printer but I just checked my "Pages" and my version number is 4.0.2. I'm using iWork 09. Perhaps you need to update? I just checked the "Snow Leopard Compatible" site and found "Apple Pages 4.0.2" is compatible. It didn't mention 1.0.2. I'm so sorry. That's pretty rough when it's how you make your living.
As for the printer, I have an HP Photosmart C4580 which wouldn't print. I finally just deleted all the printers on my MacBook and used my Snow Leopard install disk and selected the "Optional Install" which allowed me to just reinstall the printers. My HP is now working fine. I do feel like this is just a work-around until HP gets things sorted out. I say that because even though my HP now works, the only place it shows up is in my users folder. It's not in my Applications folder, but as long as it works for now, I don't care.
Hope I was of some help to you. Best of luck!

  • Calculator won't work with Snow Leopard

I recently upgraded to snow leopard (mac pro).  Now when I try to use my calculator it says the version I have won't work with this version.  I have looked for updates but it says I current.  Do you know why?

I went into my application file and the updated calculator was in there.  Once I moved it onto my dock the caculator works.  I assumed it would update automatically when I upgraded my software; now I know.  Thanks.

  • Printer won't work with Snow Leopard

    Hello,
I have been using a Lexmark colour printer with my iMac. I upgraded to Snow Leopard and since then my printer does not work. Does anyone have a solution to this as I don't really want to buy another printer, especially as I have bought a new stock or print cartridges for the printer.
Many thanks to anyone who can help.
    Kind regard, Maggi

    Hello Maggi:
This is a list of OS X supported printer drivers:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3669#lexmark
Since you did not indicate your specific printer model, I cannot make further suggestions.
If your printer is not listed, some people have had success with generic Gutenberg drivers.

  • Disk Utility won't run with Snow Leopard

I updated to Snow Leopard 10.6.2 and now when I run Disk Utility.app it says that it is version 11.1 and will not run. I'm not sure why this app didn't update at the same time. Where can I download 11.5 Disk Utility?
    Thanks!

make sure you are running the correct copy of DU. you likely have two copies and are trying to run the one which is not in the default location. in finder go to main hard drive->applications->utilities. start DU from there. if that's not it pull DU from the SL install DVD using Pacifist http://www.charlessoft.com/
