DVD simulates fine, no audio on menu after burn

This is a problem that has been driving me crazy, I've spent weeks authoring a DVD package consisting of three films, bonus features, and the soundtrack.
I wasn't sure how to approach the soundtrack, I ended up making it up as a set of menus, so that you can easily navigate next track, prev track, back to menu whist listening to the songs. I've set these up exactly as I have every other menu, and everything works perfectly when I simulate it within Encore CS5. Alas when I burn the DVD the music will play for the first track, but not for any others.
I've tried this with .aiff .wav .ac3 same result each time. The part that really has me stumped is that the first track will play, and every menu is set up in the exact same way.. therefore I can't see what i'm doing wrong. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

And use normal black text on a white background.  I can't even read the problem.

  • Audio Sync issue after burning DVD

This is a strange one. I have a DVD made up of several videos of various length. One 15 minutes, One 7 minutes, and the rest under 5 minutes & 17 seconds. The problem is that the two longer ones are out of sync on the burned DVD (and even the build playing in VLC) even though they are fine throughout the rest of the process (FCP, DVDSP timeline, & DVDSP simulation). The rest of the videos are also just fine. I have no idea what to do about it.

They were all encoded in compressor and all are about 7.6 Mb/s. The thing is, only 2 of 14 have the issue. Granted, they are the 2 longest, but not by that much. And it is out of sync for the entire program, it doesn't gradually get out of sync. Also, opening the Video_TS folder (on the computer, not the disk) in VLC shows the same problem, so its not the player, the disk media, or even the burning process. It's somewhere in the "build" process. I will try a lower data rate for those two, but it should be fine for less than an hour of material.

  • Project is dropping audio and connections after burning

A project was created on an Intel machine running Tiger, then modified with all new assets on a PowerPC G5 with Tiger (10.4.11). When burned to disc, some menu audio is missing, and some connections (button links, menu timeouts) are non-functional. This has happened before and the solution has been:
    1) Delete all the PAR files on the PowerPC
    2) Copy the project file to the Intel machine (now running Leopard)
    3) Build and burn the project.
This is not working, nor is deleting and re-creating the offending menus. Short of rebuiliding this numbingly complex project, does anyone have a clue as to how to solve this or why this would be happening?
Disc functions perfectly in Simulator and Mac's software DVD Player; only the burned disc drops features. Both machines are running the newest version of DVDSP 4 (newer than the DVDSP 4 version that created the project file).

I started getting this exact problem when playing The Crew with my ZXR card. Audio channels start going to the wrong outputs within 5 minutes of playing the game every time. I ran the channel test after playing and stopping the game and they were still screwed up. After rebooting the PC, the problem is fixed again.
This is the first game I have noticed this problem with. This is the first game that has been this demanding on my PC and graphics cards (SLI, both running at 100% to a 4K monitor). I am wondering if the PCI bus is getting hammered too hard.
I have ordered a Sound Blaster X7 to see if the problem goes away. If not, I will be sending that back and going back to onboard audio.

  • Audio levels of added audio go wonky after burn

My final stage of imovie production is adding the soundtrack. I have done this with great success using idvd 4 and 5 in the past. However, I recently upgraded to 06 and problems emerged.
When I preview my imovie, everything is perfect, audio sounds great with nice audio fades and mixes. BUT, after I send it to idvd and then burn it, those fades and mixes are no longer smooth. In transition between clip, the audio level of the added material jumps way up then abrubltly goes away. As well, as an added song fades away to zero level, at the end it momentarily jumps back up to full volume and I cant even see why this is happening when I go back to imovie and look at the levels.
I have tried not fading songs through clip transitions, but I still get such problems, as I just described. This is very puzzling as I have faded audio through video transition in the past with ease. As well, I have a small side buisness where I sell my finished product and I haven't made a movie yet, since I 'upgraded' several months ago without experiencing these extrememly frustrating audio problems.
I hope there is some advice out there that will help me solve this.

    Hello, steviesteve,
John is right....in the iMovie discussions there are lots of messages regarding sound problems in burned DVDs. Sound is fine in iMovie....no fixes, some work-arounds you might try. Sorry I don't have the exact links, but you can do a search in iMovie 6.

  • Losing audio from dv after burn

created project in imovie 4.0.1 and shared to idvd 4.0.1. Previewed in idvd and audio is fine, burned a dvd and the audio from the dv camcorder is lost. Not all of the dv camcorder audio is lost but probably 75% of it. Any ideas on how to solve this problem. All voiceovers and music that was added came through fine.

I would like to piggy-back off of kwinst's problem and request additional info from Shippey:
I, too, just created an iMovie (probably my 20th) in 4.0.2. It consists of 5 minutes of video taped footage, a few titles, and two songs from iTunes. It plays beautifully in iMovie. Everything's intact. Furthermore, when I slip the burned dvds of it into other Mac drives, the movie plays in the viewer just fine...
The problem is that the burned dvds (burned using iDVD) lose the audio that is part of the video footage when played on an actual DVD player. The iTunes songs play fine. It's just the audio embedded withing the video that is nonexistent on the DVD when it's played on a DVD player (such as one that is hooked up to a t.v.).
Aside from needing to know why this is happening, I'm wondering if THIS has anything to do with the problem: the original video footage came from a Sony camera that I do not believe is digital. It was on a larger cassette, possibly a super 8? I hooked that camera up to my Sony digital camera (which I have used numerous times for iMovies), and copied the footage onto the digital camera. That little tape played back fine, plus all audio was intact in the iMovie, so I'm guessing the dubbed footage imported into iMovie is just fine, too.
So why is it that when I burn a dvd of the iMovie, the songs play well but the audio embedded within the video is nonexistent/just BARELY audible when the t.v?
is turned up to the hightest setting. When I dubbed the super 8 footage into my digital camera was I supposed to select a 16 or 32-bit option? Where do I find such a setting on a camera?
Please help me. I am at the end of my rope!

  • Audio drop out after burning to iDVD

I am running FCE 2 and checked all of my audio (mixed it down and everything). Plays well when I run FCE. When I burn the clips to iDVD, I notice that the audio drops out in certain scenes, and it's the same scenes. Ruined 5 dvds so far after trying to a few things.
I am using all internal HDs (Extended Journaled). Any suggested would be appreciated. Thanks

    Hi
    a. Audio from iTunes - has to be used by a work around
I do - create a Playlist in iTunes with needed audio
Burn out as an Audio-CD (.aiff) Not .mp3
Use this audio in Your FinalCut project
    b. I do from FCE/P to iDVD
    • Export out as a QuickTime .mov file
    • Not selfcontained (not important but saves time and space)
    • NO QUICKTIME Conversion (Important)
    c. To get iDVD to run OK
    • Secure a minimum of 25Gb free space on Start-Up (Mac OS) hard disk ! (others of no importance)
    • I use Verbatim DVDs
    • DVD-R
    • Burn speed set down to x4 or x1 (only relevant to newer iDVD)
(Instead download the Hack (Hurz and Pfurz) that makes it possibly to do a DiskImage with iDVD4
if earlier iDVD versions - forget this
then save as a DiskImage - test it with DVD-player tool and see that it runns OK
THEN do the actual DVD burn by using Disk Util tool from this DVD image You just did.
AND Here You can set down burn speed to x4 or x1.
    • iDVD 4 disc image burning can be enabled through the patch Hurz and Pfurz - search the net.
    Good luck Yours Bengt W

  • Audio drops out after burning to a disk.

I just finished my Final Cut Express project and used iDVD to burn it to a disk. Half way through the slide show, the audio drops out.
Is there a way to fix this?

Last week, this song played fine on the burned copy.
Is this problem now showing up in the iDVD preview mode? Or is it with subsequent burned DVD's?
Go back to your project in iDVD. Go to File>Save as disk image. This will create a file that can be viewed on your computer's DVD player. The disk image will show you how your project will appear when played on a standard DVD player. See if this problem is repeated. If everything is fine, go ahead and burn the DVD using Disk Utility.
    I hope this helps.

  • When I view my DVD on my computer it's perfect, after burning and watching it on my TV all the pictures flash 3 times.

When I view my DVD on my computer it is perfect. When i watch it on my TV the pictures flash 3 times each.

    Hi
Can be many origins to this - most common ones are
    • Use of cheap DVD media - I use Verbatim DVD-R
    • Burning DVD as full speed - I set it down to x4
    • Use of strange file formats (codecs) eg. .avi, .wmv etc - I use StreamingDV from miniDV tapes video and .aiff 16-bit 48kHz audio
    • I secure a minimum of 25Gb free space on START-Up Hard disk (important)

  • In scene selection mode, can you make iDVD return to the scene selection menu after playing that scene without continuing to play all the other scenes?

After selecting one scene from the scene selection menu, the following scenes play automatically, as if it were in "play movie" mode. Is there a way to stop that behavior and have the DVD return to the scene selection menu after playing just the selected scene?

    OK
So what You want is a "Play All" button resp. a "Play one Chapter at a time" one.
    Then
BAD News - There are Non ! in iDVD
GOOD News - it can in part be faked.
    read on
Play all resp. one chapter at a time
    Play All Button
    1. There are NO - Play All - button in any version of iDVD
    2. It can be faked in several ways
    • Easiest and most fault proof way is to make a doublet movie containing All and with
Chapters set to match. It will take up x2 space but is easy to understand and produce.
Cons: Tried this in iMovie’11 by Exporting out each part as a full Quality QT.mov then Importing back into new events and putting these into a new project (Play All project). Resulting DVD had Audio that was OK (as parts) - BUT the picture was very bad and standing photo were cut of in height. So the Play All movie has to be created from same material and exactly in the same way as the individual parts + then Chapters has to be set to match.
    • It's said that one can put all movies into a Photo/SlideShow and this will also
give the function of a Play All button - Tested - and ONE HAS TO un-cheque - Scale pictures to TV-Safe area else it will be a black frame all around and a small picture !
    Mike Evangelist1
You might be able to get close to what you want by using a slideshow in iDVD. (It's not widely known, but you can put videos in a slideshow.) If you set the slide duration to manual, playback will pause after each movie/slide, and you can continue with the 'next' button.
    3. Using another program to do this e.g.. Roxio Toast™ where there is a Play All button option.
    Summary
    a. Making a Play All movie with same care as the individual Part movies - gives a very Good Result
    b. Using Roxio Toast™ - also an usable way to go

  • After burning a slide show, I get a skip in audio

After burning a slide show, II get a skip in the audio about every 5 min. of run time.  I imported the pictures from i photo and the music from an itunes play list. When I play the entire thing in preview it runs fine with no problems, but after burning to a dvd, I get a skip every 5 min.  I burned to hp DVD-R (16x) and Memorex DVD-R (16x).  Still the skip.  I have burned to Best preformance, High Quality and Professional Quality.  I have even slowed the burn time to 4x.  Still the skip.  I noticed the bar at the bottom of the screen always reads 5 min. for the audio duration and when it goes back to 0 is when it skips.   The run time when I put the cursor on the audio well reads the correct 3min:35sec.

SlideShow function in iDVD - is limited to 99 photos per show.
Creating the SlideShow in iMovie HD6 or FinalCut - doesn't limit this but offers 100% control over process (audio and transitions)
Using iMovie'08 or 09 or 11 - will degrade picture quality as they only deliver every second line over to iDVD.
I never use "Share to iDVD" in any iMovie version.
    • iMovie up to HD6 - Just close it and import movie project from within iDVD
    • iMovie'08 to 11 - "Share to Media Browser" and as Large (not HD) will give as good quality as they can do

  • Audio on preview but no audio on menu's on DVD all other audio fine

    Help,
I have made a DVD with menus with audio. All of the MP-2 video files have sound but there is no sound on the Main Menu and SubMenu. I had audio as PCM file and mp-2 audio file. I have made menus like this previously and have had sound on the menus. Any ideas on what I need to do to get the sound on the Menus
    Thanks

Jennifer - that is great news.
With DVD, it is always safer to keep all menu audio in the same format.
Main thing is that it all now works!

  • After burning DVD, DVD player cannot play main menu

    Hi all,
I created a project with a main menu with several links to submenus in Encore. When i take a preview it all looks great. However after burning the DVD, the DVD reader is unable to lanch the CD to it's master main menu (set as first play) and after a long time searching, it starts one of the submenus. There i have a link back to the main menu, but it doesn't seem to work.
I tried this on several DVD players but all has the same problem. I also create a DVD folder on HD, there it works.
I'm pretty sure my DVD burner works fine. Could it be that Encore is using too heavy compression (the avi file is 29Gig and fits on 1 DVD) that can not be use for let's say cheaper version of DVD players? (2 years old).
If not, any other idea where the problem could be ??
    Tx

    Hi Harm,
you were absolutely right. I was either suspecting the large avi file to be to heavily compressed or my dvd burner but NO...i just bought some TDK 16 DVD-R and the whole thing was solved. Saves me a lot of trouble, no new DVD-R, no new software.... tx mate :)
ps do you know any gud site where i can found some good audio samples which can be used for DVD menus?

  • No audio in dvd after burning.

So I've burned hundreds of projects before and have never had this happen. After encoding the video the project goes straight to writing to disc. Skips audio encoding altogether and therefore I have no audio on the disc whatsoever. It's not a menu audio problem or anything, just the actual audio that matches the video.
If anybody has any suggestions it would be greatly appreciated. I have tried twice for this project same thing happens.

    Hi t
    a. most common origin is - music/audio from iTunes.
Way around - copy out audio as .aiff to eg. an audio CD. Use this in Your project.
    b. Try to do a DiskImage. Play it with Apple-DVD player. OK ?
If OK then burn with Apple Disk Util tool or if You got Toast™.

  • After burning to dvd, using idvd, movie stops on frame but audio continues

After creating imovie which works perfectly, and also after trasferring to idvd works perfectly, i have problems when playing back dvd after burning to disc. The movie stops but the audio continues. I altered the clip but same thing happened in next clip after next burn. I don't think its a corrupt clip, but maybe something to do with WHEN it occurs in the movie. Any suggestions? After 4 goes and many hours burning I am stumped!

    Hi Tomma1
And welcome to apple discussions. It's good you chose to use 16 bit audio for all of your source material. And assuming this is accurate info .... From what I can tell, you are doing nearly everything correctly. However let me ask you a few questions.
    1. Are you using the boot volume (the hard drive where iDvd and Leopard are actually located) to encode your dvd (yes/no)?
    2. More importantly, does the disc image also go out of sync when played thru apple's dvd player app? or does it only happen on the burned dvd-r?
    3. Are you using Verbatim Dvd-R or an alternate brand? if it's the latter, then for troubleshooting purposes while on this forum; please use Verbatim Dvd-R. (it helps us eliminate additional / possible variables). Thereafter feel free to use the media that works best for you and your mac.
    4. Have you tried an alternate encoding setting other than pro quality setting? and do you get the same results?

  • Using DVD Player, the show goes back to menu after every chapter, even though I selected "Play Entire Episode".

It only does this on Reading Rainbow DVDs so far: Using DVD Player, the show goes back to menu after every chapter, even though I selected "Play Entire Episode".  It does this whether the laptop is plugged in or is using battery power.  How do I get it to play all??  Thanks.

Turns out it was NOT the software or the Mac. I bought a portable DVD player and this problem happens with it, too.
