Dvd skips the menus

I burnt a dvd using idvd. i made a chapter menu as well that branches off of the main menu. I made these chapters in idvd. For the actual movie, all i did was drag and drop the mp4 file onto the main menu.
Before i burnt the movie, i previewed it in idvd and everything was fine. After i burnt the movie, i played it on my tv and it skips the menus. If i press disc menu on the remote it takes me to the menu and it works fine but i want it to take me to the menu everytime i put the dvd in, instead of playing the movie straight away.
Can someone please tell me what i have done wrong? Thanks.

Hi
a. I don't use .mp4 files with iDVD only iMovie projects that I import from within iDVD.
Never use the Share/Export to iDVD from within iMovie. Or in FinalCut save as QuickTime
(no selfcontained, no conversion)
b. I would in iDVD go to File menu and down to Save as a DiskImage
Do this and double click on it to extract a virtual hard disk.
Then I would start DVD-player (in Application folder) and test if this virtual
copy plays as intended.
If so. I would burn this with Disk Util tool or Roxio Toast™
If not. The problem is in iDVD pref file or in the structure or in material used
eg .mp4, .avi, .wmv, .mp3audio etc.
• Then I would convert video to streamingDV and audio to .aiff
• Delete the pref file
• Secure a minimum of 25Gb free space on internal (booth/start-up) hard disk

    please help!
i need to find a way to get my imovie project onto a dvd soon because it must be mailed to a film competition tomorrow! is there anyway i can use idvd to get it onto the dvd but not have the menus/themes? (if not, what should i do!??!? it needs to be burned tonight!!!)
    thanks!!!!!

    Hi
Im new to forums and hope this is read by someone and gets posted.
I am using iDVD and a demo reel I just made in imovie
I have a few problems-I have set up a nice theme with picture and a link to a demo reel of my work.
when I watch it in the preview it all looks good. When I burn a DVD the menu/themes is not there and it starts automatically, but not only that.. it's the wrong movie even though I have the right movie in idvd?
I have been able to burn the CORRECT movie but not in iDVD. However it only plays in mac computers not PC or any DVD player.
Im a new mac user so bare with me. My movie seems to be a M4v-should it not be an Mpeg and how do I make that happen?

  • Dvd starts playing and skips the menu's

I have a problem what i have not seen before. When i burned the DVD and play it in a DVD player it starts directly with the footage, it skips the menu's. I have burned the same DVD before, than it was OK, added some more footage, rebuild it again, but no menu's. In DVDSP it works fine in the simulator. Any idea's?

If you look at the Graphical view of your menus and tracks, any first play item will have this circular symbol in the top left corner.
If it hasn't, ctrl click it and select "First Play" from the contextual menu.

  • DVD skips toward the end

I created a new disc image from a DVD burned in iDVD. In disk utility when I burned from previous created disc image, the last 30 minutes of the dvd skips including video and audio. I tried playing it in a few DVD players and it does the same thing. What is causing this? Could it be that our dvd burner needs cleaning?

You might want to try burning your DVD at a slower speed using DVD-R 4x or 8x media (preferably Verbatim).

  • The DVD skips

The DVD skips and half way through it goes back to the begining. The music also skips.
I am making iMovies and importing then into iDVD. I have not experianced this on my DVD player, but friends have, about 2 out of 15.

Note that not all players can play all DVD media.
While the manufacturers of the media try to be
compatible with all players, in practice there are
always enough variations that you will have problems
    on some players.
Some very old set top DVD players may not play
writable media, but all recent players should.
Problems with writable media playing in recent
players is usually a matter of burn-errors.
Computer DVD players have a high level of error
correction and don't have problems with the errors.
Set top DVD players are usually designed for
pressed, commercial DVDs with very low errors and as
a result, will often choke on burned DVDs written at
    higher speeds.
That makes sense, I have just burned using disk image. and then used disk utility, It works on my TV, well see it it does on others,

  • Is it possible to skip the use of a router to get wireless from imac to macbook? (both osx10.5.8)

Current setup is my imac (osk 10.5.8) is plugged into my dlink router. Wife gets her connection for her macbook (aslo osx 10.5.8) wirelessly from the router.
Is it possible to skip the use of a router? That is, plug the ISP's inbound cable to my mac and somehow my wife's macbook be able to wireless connect to my iMac?
Just looking to get around the router that is a possible cause for slowness.

Some sort of router is needed for both of you to share the cable service. Is the router yours or part of the cable modem provided by the cable company? If the latter ask the cable company to service the device to be sure everything is working properly. If you have a separate modem and the router is yours, then replace it.
Why do you believe your wireless is slow?

  • IDVD problem burning and multiplexing - gets stuck but ejects the DVD and the DVD doesn't play

I am having trouble burning DVDs.  Everything seems to be working fine during the iDVD project creation.  I can watch the movie and select scenes within iDVD.  Then, when I go to burn the DVD, it gets stuck at the burning/multiplexing stage - the wheel just keeps spinning and says there is about a minute left.  Yet it ejects the DVD and the DVD won't play when inserted into a DVD player.  It will show the intro and the scene selection pages but when you click on one of the scenes, it gets stuck and doesn't play.  I have already uninstalled and reinstalled iDVD.  The problem persists.  It seems like the burner itself is the problem.  What can I do to fix it?  I have Mac OS X Version 10.6.8 with a 2.8 GHzintel Core 2 Duo and iDVD version 7.0.4.

    Hi
Multiplexing error is a very complex problem due to many things (long long list following) - one common but not obvious reason is that material on the iDVD menu goes outside the TV-Safe area (or just touching it).
So first - turn on TV-Safe area and move any object well inside of this.
Wide screen stretched - usually (as I think) it is due to making a 4x3 movie in a 16x9 wide-screen project OR the other way around. This forces one to on flat-screen TV (or other) set the presenting view right - My has 4x3, wide-screen, zoom and auto-wide-screen and I have to switch this by my remote for some DVD I've made "wrong" way.
Now my long long list on Multiplex Error

    Chuck, Chicago 2/7/2009.
Back again. Here is what I have found to work. I also have and use a LaCie DVD-R/RW DL external drive and a LaCie external hard drive as well. Since yesterday I have tried a few ways to burn a themed iDVD project having four 56 minute movies on it, amounting to 226 minutes onto a DVD DL disc, capacity 240 minutes. Apple tech support really didn't know what to do but gave me a very good tip. I had two options left. Apple tech support's tip was to try disc image. One of the replies on a thread with this subject said not to, but my experience today is good. Put your project onto "Burn to disc image," under "iDVD, file." Yesterday encoding took me 23 1/2 hours. Overnight for iDVD disc image, encoding took 21 1/2 hours (again) while I slept. This morning I tried to copy/burn disc image to a DVD with Roxio Toast 7, and it stopped near the end of the burn with some kind of "error" message. So then I tried Utilities> Disc Utility> Burn icon, and followed it through. Be sure to click the DVD DL drive in the window "Burn disc in.". I had one other problem though. At the end of a 46 minute copy, it started to verify, and at the end of verify it rejected the burn. So I tried again, and when "verify" appeared, I clicked on "Skip." The disc finished burning and is doing fine and well. A long and tortuous process, but at last something works. I made several additional copies using Disc Utility. Best wishes. Chuck, Chicago.

(Not a 'guy' but I will answer!)
First, I do not think that mixing wide-screen and standard makes a difference in iDVD.
Second, you should use a better brand of DVD disk. Also, many of us have experienced fewer problems on playback with DVD-R disks. Recommended brands here are Verbatim, Maxell and Taiyo Yuden. Memorex and TDK are not consistent and may not give you a correct burn. They apparently have fewer layers in the composition of the disk. I have always used Verbatim DVD-R disks and have not had any burn problems.
Also, choose a slower burn speed, 4x or less.
Third, to determine if the iDVD project will burn properly, create a disk image file (from within iDVD, go File->Save as Disk Image) and test it. Mount the disk image and then open DVD Player (in Applications) and view your project. If it plays correctly, you can then burn the actual DVD disk from the disk image file using Disk Utility.

I did everything I've seen suggested, but a friend (who used to be an Apple Genius) suggested that I do a safe reboot (by holding down the shift key until you see the spinning gear on gray background, then release, then restart when your start-up screen appears).
It worked, and I got a clean burn from iDVD.
Hopefully this can help other people.

Well, I finally got it, and it was odd enough to post here incase anyone looks this topic up again. Many things were tried, including burning the unedited film, the edited film without titles and chapter markers, abbreviating the chapter markers in case length was the issue (remember the old iMovie used to truncate them when moving to iDVD?). In the process, I noticed that one, and only one, chapter marker was on the same line as the title marker. All the others were on the line above. The only way I seemed able to change that was to clip a few seconds of film. After that last clip, the offending marker took a place on the line above, as were all the others. That run published, compiled completely and burned. That's one for the books.
    One user more writes
To add my experience with Multiplex Errors using iDVD (7.0.4), I recently created two iDVD projects
Video from both passed from FCE 4.01 with chapters
One project worked fine in creating disk image file
    The other gave Multiplex Errors
I tried suggestions to remove special characters and no chapter marks at beginning, but nothing worked
Note that I've used iDVD for dozens of projects and this is first time I've run into Multiplex Errors
Anyway, for problem project, I tried an experiment where I removed all chapters in FCE and passed to new iDVD project
    This time multiplex errors gone
So had something to do with chapters
So now I tried numerous experiments to remove individual chapters and try again creating disk image with new iDVD project
After numerous tries, I was able to narrow problem down to 1 "Bad" chapter mark
That is, when I left the "bad" chapter in my FCE project and passed to iDVD, iDVD gave multiplex error
When I removed "bad" chapter mark (and others in), no multiplex error
As a final experiment, I moved "bad" chapter mark about 5-10 sec's beyond original point and passed to iDVD, the multiplex errors now magically went away and I was able to finally create my disk image.
I have no idea why this worked, but thought I'd mention here in case someone else runs into similar problem.

In addition to Bengt's fine advice, burning errors can occur if you have located any of your menu buttons wholly or partly outside of the safe TV viewing area. Go to your main project menu, then click on View/Show TV Safe Area, to check. Drag into the safe viewing area any buttons that are outside the safe viewing area.
    Russ One - suggest this
Multiplex Error-There was an error during muxing preparation
One thing that worked for me was to export the video w/o chapter markers as a self contained movie (thereby not loosing the edits & etc). Then make a new FCE project and import that movie into a new sequence and add the chapter markers. I've used "-", "&" and "," with no problem in the chapter names. Removing the markers or exporting without them did solve the problem but renaming them with just numbers 1,2,3....5, did not solve the problem and since this problem seems to happen with with iMovie as well, it would suggest the problem is in the video or audio and in combination with the chapter markers iDVD just can't handle it. The only other possibility is that both iMovie and FCE share the same or similar chapter marker code that some how is corrupting the markers.
    Summary - What to try
    1. Chapters
    • Only A to Z and 0 to 9 in chapter title
    • No Chapter mark at very beginning of movie
    • No Chapter mark in or within 2 seconds from any transition in movie
    2. TV-safe area for buttons (no one outside this)
    3. Safe re-boot
    4. No other external devices connected - that are not needed
    SDMacuser adds to this
    • On #4 ... No ext. devices. Some think this applies mainly to ext. FW. Not the case. Also applies to ext. USB2 as well (not to mention flash drives too).
Do not leave 3rd party devices / camera / camcorder plugged in unless it is being used with iDvd's One Step process. Certain web cams can trigger this also (especially ones with added features like LED light/s that draw additional power from the FW or USB bus).
    5. Minimum of 25Gb free space on Start-up hard disk
    6. Make a DiskImage first - reduces where problem originates
    7. Trash iDVD pref. file
    8. Make a new iDVD project
    9. Movies in project with same aspect ratio e.g. 4x3 or 16x9
    10. No other programs/applications running during iDVD process. e.g. Internet, screen & energy savers

  • Quickly create 8 minute highest quality DVD with no menus from Motion 4?

What's the fastest/simplest way to create a high quality DVD without any menus that just plays from Motion 4?
    I set quality to best.
I just tried using Share, and I can see one of my processors working at 100%, but I've got no indication of any progress - or even that it is working, except I can see a few files in the directory I told it to create them in.
I told it to create a DVD (there was a checkbox), so I put a DVD in the drive.
I have no idea how long I should wait until giving up? I'd generally avoided trying to send anything to Compressor from motion, as it would take 10x longer.

    Heya Les,
For the quickest method at the highest quality I would export a self-contained movie from Motion and take the self-contained QT movie and bring it into Compressor. Because SD DVD is compressed to MPEG-2 video format you will want to have control over how the file is compressed at the target bitrate of compression in order to achieve the best quality. You would want to duplicate and edit one of the DVD settings in Compressor then set the video bitrate to about 7.5/mbps because anything over that bitrate may cause playback errors on certain DVD players. I may receive compensation from my link. Make sure the audio is set to 192/kbps AC3 in Compressor.
You can setup distributed processing with Qmaster to enable multiple processor cores in a cluster and take advantage of multi core processing in Compressor. Additional info if necessary (more on the web by searching).
Then after Compressor is finished compressing the self-contained QT file take the compressed MPEG-2 file and .AC3 audio file and import them into a DVD Studio Pro project and follow these instructions to make the movie autoplay without any menus. I'll throw up some screenshots on the linked page soon to provide a visual reference of how to use DVD Studio Pro to create a DVD that autoplays without a menu.

  • Flash Video with DVD-like motion menus -- Is this possible?

    Hi all,
I just joined this gropup. I have some SMIL 2.0 presentations
with synchnorized multiple audio (several languages supported) and
video as well as DVD-like still and motion menus. These are
semi-transparent menus and actually are super-imposed over main
playback area (root layout in SMIL).
Can Flash Video has menus in it?
Can this type of a/v synchronization and menuing be done in
    Flash Video?
I don't want to write as SWF with menus since clips and # of
menus on screen and placement might be different from video to
video. These are for some training videos.
To give a background, in SMIL I have an application server
(Jboss) which is dynamically creating SMIL based upon database,
user inputs and menu selections. What is basically sent back to the
browser is SMIL page markup including playlist of clips up to next
menu point. Once all clips are watched and user selects menu button
to continue then a new SMIL is generated and processs repeated.
I am thinking off porting this over to Flash Video because
currently clients need RealPlayer (has SMIL 2.0) support to be
downloaded and installed. Another local app to manage!
    Any ideas or recommendations?
    Thanks and kindest regards,
    -Mark

You can build interactive DVDs with video and audio, but no Word documents (at least not as part of the interactivity). DVD SP can certainly be used to create interactive DVDs. The advantage is that interactivity will extend to DVD players, not just computers.
If you want very rich interactive content, with Word docs, PDFs, etc. Then the best program would be Director. However there are some caveats with Director.
    1) The learning curve for Director is extremely steep. You would be better off hiring a freelancer who already knows the program, then spending all the time learning all the ins and outs of the program.
    2) Director is essentially a dead program. Since Adobe acquired it a couple of years ago, they have made no upgrades of the program. Nor have they made any announcements on continued development.
    3) The content you develop will only be playable on computers, not DVD players.

  • How do I make interactive DVD/Blu-Ray menus with motion?

So, adobe doesn't support Encore anymore which means I can't use dynamic link to AE to create interactive DVD/Blu-Ray menus with motion.... or can I? Is there something I'm doing wrong? While in Encore, I go to dynamic link and boom, dynamic link to AE is not highlighted. If I can't make an interactive menu with motion using adobe, then what can I use? This is causing a major problem for me and my clients. (if i over looked the answer to this in another post, my apologies)

You can use the "Create After Effects Composition." This prompts you to create an independent version of the Encore PSD menu file, and opens the layered file in AE CC and creates a new composition with appropriate settings. AE no longer has mpeg export, so you export from AE to AME.
There were some workflow options that I did not play with much, but they were never what I saw as the basics for using AE to create the motion background.

If I have a project in HD and want to make additional DVDs with standard DVD , can i use the same project?  I dont want to have to remake all the menus and links.
    Thanks,
    John Q.

I'll add a fairly ignorant reply, as I've only done 3 projects in Encore. But it seems one of the magnificent things about the program is that You can export the project to 3 different formats: BluRay, DVD, and Flash.
I've intially set up the projects in BluRay to have the maximum quality to start, then when ready to burn cllick File --> Build and you get the 3 choices.
That choice is not permanent, you still have the 3 options the next time you want to do an export.

  • BIG Encore problem - Interactive dvd based on menus - blurry menus

Hi, I am making a DVD based on clickable menus. The idea is to create a DVD portfolio, where the user can click through different screens, a lot of them with images, some only videos. I am creating the menus in photoshop - using rather small text. When the menus are imported to Encore, they look ok in the editing mode, but in the preview, the text gets blurry and unreadable - this also happens to some extent with the bigger text, edges also get very pixeled. The format I am working with is 1280 x 720, 72dpi (but i guess the dpi doesn't matter when it's video), RGB color, PAL widescreen square pixel... I have tried a lot of different formats, both bigger and smaller, but it doesn't get better. I have tried to do this in so many different ways now, but simply cannot find a solution - which seems strange to me, as I have seen DVD menus before with small type, without it being blurry (for example describing different episodes of a TV show) - Is there another program that would be better for this project, as I am also worried that the images will be very pixelated... I also tried to export the project, but it is still blurry. Another problem I have, is that the highlights of text buttons appear a few pixels left of the original button - I used the correct layer names, and only text in one color. the highlight is white. I hope someone can help me with this!
First image: a dummy menu in encore (editing mode)
Second image: the menu exported as dvd (folder)

    Welcome to the forum.
Why are you starting with 1280x720 PS files when you are trying to create a 720x576 PAL SD DVD?  The downscaling alone would account for your quality loss.
