DVD SLOT AREA MAKES NOISE

I JSUT GOT MY APPLE. I NOTICE WHEN I OPEN AND CLOSE (PHYSICALLY) THE MACBOOK THE CD/DVD AREA MAKE A NOISE FOR A SPLIT SECOND IS THIS NORMAL. LET ME REPHRASE THE QUESTION. WHEN I HAVE THE MAKE BOOK ASLEEP AND I GO TO WAKE IT UP BY OPENING (LIFTING THE TOP PORTION) THE SUPERDRIVE MAKE A NOISE. ALSO DO YOU HAVE TO HAVE A SPECIAL PROGRAM TO BURN CD/DVD. IWOULD LIKE TO TRY THESE OUT TO SEE IF THE WORK.
THANKS

That noise is normal.
As for software, Leopard provides you with the ability to burn Data, Audio (mp3 or wave) and disk image files.
Leopard itself (using a "Burn Folder") can be used for Data (Or mp3 cds)
Disk Utility can be used for disk images etc.
ITunes will allow you to burn your Audio CDs.
Good Luck!

The internal switch in the audio output port is stuck.  Try inserting the earphone plug a few times.  If no success, try jiggling a tooth pick inside in order to trip the switch.. If still no success, have the technicians at the Apple store genius bar do it for you.

  • My dvd slot for imac10,1 does not work. It rejects the disc. Problem after reinstall of backup from hdd.

My dvd slot for imac10,1 does not work. I had a new harddrive installed in November and the MacStore installed my backups from an external harddrive. I do not use it other than to upload programs, so I have not tried using it until tax season, but it rejects the disc. The ata file indicates no dvd firmware, but the serial-ata does indicate firmware for a dvdrw. What might I do about this to bring the dvd back, least expensive to most?

Yesterday I started having the same problem. Can read disc (play movies and music) but blank disk are ejected or idvd cannot see the blank disk. I have a almost 12 month old 27" i7 imac.

You are right, Adobe does not support CS5 because it is no longer sold.
Simply download the trial version of CS5 from this Adobe web site and input your serial number.

  • SDHC card in the DVD slot

A co-worker put an SDHC card in the DVD slot of our work's iMac.  How in the heck am I supposed to get it out?
Let me stress: A co-worker.  Not me.  Seriously.

Some people have had luck by shutting it down, unplugging it, and then holding it with the slot down and very gently shake it a bit. Or, take it to the Genius Bar!
Also, please make sure your profile is correct - it's showing a PPC and a very old OS.

  • Hi everybody , i want to buy macbook pro retina but i wonder if he make noise or get hot ?

hi everybody , i want to buy macbook pro retina but i wonder if he make noise or get hot ? i don't use game or heavy program.

The only 'noise maker on a retina MBP are the fans.  The will speed up if there is a need to dissipate heat.
The MBP will become hot if CPU/GPU intensive applications are in use.  That is expected and normal.

  • My macbook makes noises when i turn it on.

i recently bought a macbook pro 15 inch, the 2.66ghz one and when i turn it on it makes noises but the noises sound like they are in rhythm and are maybe playing a song? is that normal?

Me, too! It sounds like the optical drive is doing a little tune! The actual sound has that optical drive buzz, and it starts on first B-flat above middle C (forgive musical dorkiness - if it helps, I could actually transcribe it) ... just a couple seconds long. It happens at start-up (including restarts) and wake-up. It's pretty loud, actually, like it would be disruptive if it happened during a lecture ... What could this be? Is it ominous?

  • Color Correction + DVD/MPEG Compression Produced Noise

I recently color corrected a 3-hour rock concert using FCP and a broadcast monitor. When played from the timeline the concert looks great however after outputting, MPEG compression and authoring a DVD there's video noise over the image. Almost snow like but different. I'd post a screengrab but I can't seem to take one in DVD Player. Any advice?

That's exactly right Jonathan, you need to add the 2:3 pulldown, and I can tell you all why. (I read the post from Max Average, but I'm not commenting that separately)
The DVD specification simply does not support video marked as 23.98 fps (which is how Apple wants to call it) or even 23.976 fps (which is what MPEG-2 calls it). This means that for NTSC DVDs you can only use MPEG-2 video files which are marked as 29.97 fps. This is true whether your encoder (like Compressor) is letting you be aware of it or not. There is no "native 23.98 frame rate" on a DVD and the right way of making the decoder believe it is 29.97 instead, is to use 2:3 pulldown. Any other method would just be wasting bandwidth/bitrate or picture quality, depending on which way you want to look at it.
The 2:3 pulldown process, as specified by MPEG-2, is a way for the encoder of describing to the decoder which of its already decoded fields it should be repeating (displaying once more) and when. These field repetitions are designed to increase the interlaced displayed frame rate from 23.976 to 29.97. This "new" frame rate must be explicitely written into the .m2v stream, to be accepted by a DVD authoring tool, e.g., DVD SP.
I am sure many of you may wonder why it is called "pulldown" when in fact the frame rate seems to be going "up" from 24 to 30, as I did myself back in the nineties;-)
The way to wrap ones head around that, is to think about what whould happen if you just mapped 24 FPS film frames onto the NTSC TV standard which has to display frames at nearly 30 fps on a TV. Of course the movie would run 25% FASTER on a TV than it did at the cinema/picture theatre. In that perspective, the solution had to be to SLOW DOWN (pulldown) the presentation speed on a TV. The engineers of that time (this was long before color TV was even invented)
were faced with a need for film (Hollywood movies) to be translated for TV broadcasts). Of course they could not change the 30 fps used for TV broadcasts (29.97 fps came much later when colors were added;-), so they had to come up with a scheme which made each film frame seem to last 25% longer on the TV screen, than it would have otherwise. "Pulling down" the display frequency from, the physical 30 fps to match the experienced 24 fps was accomplished by letting every other frame be displayed for 50% longer on the TV. On average that is of course 25% longer (slower) which was the goal.
I may be monitoring this thread for further comments.

  • How do I get a scandisk out of the DVD slot?

Accidentally put a Scandisk into the DvD slot on my iMac.  (The two slots are too close together, by the way)  How do I get it out?  Can't seem to reach it with a paper clip.

  • My 4gb SDHC flash mem card is stuck in DVD slot on my iMac 27". How to get it out?

I misplaced my 4GB flash memory card (Canon camera) in the DVD slot (above the card slot) and it disappeared while I was trying to get it out. Naturally I inadvertently (spelled "stupidly") knocked it inside and could not figure out how to get it out. The dust rubber "shields" hide it and I've tried to find it with a toothpick and wedge it out, to no avail. Are there any ideas or suggestions others may have used to get it out (I know turning it on it side and shaking won't work). Why in the world did they design it like it is -- I've had it happen to me and others have also told me of their misadventures, but they also were able to gradually get it out. This time, it's in too deep. Can I ignore it and still use the CD/DVD slot without it blowing up?

You might need to take to an Apple technician or apple dealer to let them take apart the iMac and remove the flash memory card. if you're very careful you might try a pair of needle nose pliers and a flashlight but it's easy to do damage to the DVD internal mechanical if you're not real careful.
A good story to tell your grand kids maybe ;-)
    Good luck

  • What's a safe DVD ripper to make copy of personal DVD movie and other movies?

What's a safe DVD ripper to make copy of personal DVD movie and then make a copy to another blank DVD?

The easiest way is to use Disk Utility to create a disk image of the DVD; you can then burn that to a blank DVD (and indeed play it using the DVD player).
Insert your DVD. Open Disk Utility and select it in the sidebar (the disk itself, not the drive it's in.) Click 'New Image' in the toolbar.
In the dialog box which opens set 'Image Format' to 'DVD/CD Master' and 'Encryption' to 'none'. This will make an exact copy without re-compressing.
Obviously this will not work on a commercially issued DVD, only on ones you make yourself or which are not DRM protected.

Is it possible to burn CDs/DVDs?
If not, I'm a former Mac user.

  • Drive makes noise at home, not at the genius bar!

Hello, I am sure that all of you have had this happen to you. Your mac has a problem, so you bring it to the apple store.. However, once your are there, the problem stops! Yet when you get back home, it starts up again!
I have full Apple Care, so everything SHOULD be free for me... Here is my story:
My macbook's cd drive makes a loud buzz whenever it spins fast.. The computer is smart enuff to spin it down to a low speed, yet this is not good. CD rips stay at about 3x.. and booting from a cd is terrible! I went to the apple store, waited 40 miutes to speek with a genius, and when we put in a cd, it was whisper quiet and worked well.... He told me that it was fine, so I left. Well, its doing it again... Should I go to the apple store and demand that they replace it? Will they do this?
    -Jordan

    Some ideas:
Did you bring the same CDs that make noise with you to the Genius Bar, or did Apple Supply the CD?
Is it possible that the Genius Bar was too noisy for them to hear the noise?
Did you do exactly the same activity that causes the buzz at home at the Bar?
Does you MacBook have to be hot (or cold) for the noise to happen. Perhaps it needed more time to get acclimated at the Bar?
Does your MacBook have to be plugged into wall power (or running on battery) for the noise to happen? Did they plug it in the same way at the Bar? Did they use your power adapter, or theirs?
