DVD SP 4 crashes importing M2V files

I've recently upraded to Tiger and Final Cut Studio from FCP HD and DVD SP3. Everything seemed to be working more or less fine before the upgrade. Once I updated the whole system, including the latest internet updates, I opened my DVD SP3 project and converted it to a DVDSP4 project. At this point, DVD SP4 started working funny, like crashing everytime I tried to open its preferences window, and I had to force quit. I reinstalled the application, but nothing changes. Now, I can't access any assets in the assets folders. They're invisible, and when I open the folders they are in the app crashes. It crashes also when I try to reimport any of the old m2v files created by the former version of compressor and used under DVDSP3. What should I do at this point? I need to continue working on this project and I've already created tons of subtitles for this track and need to update it with new m2v media, which the program won't import or see... Anyone know what I should be doing?
Thanks in advance.
Fernanda

I took both of your suggestions.
As it turns out, my M2V files did have messed up "open with preferences," and I followed the instructions to reassign quicktime as the default app for all M2V files, but this repair described in the thread you pointed did not fix the DVDSP crash problem. It still crashes whenever I try to import or view M2V files in the program... I'm still unable to edit my DVDSP project!
Any more thoughts?
By the way, are the preferences just one com.apple files in the user's prefs' folder? If so, I have already trashed it as well...

  • DVDSP 3 Crashes importing m2v files

Hi, I´ve been trying to finish a project on DVDSP3 for 5 days now. Always the same problem. I´ve encoded a FCP rendered sequence to m2v file using compressor. The process was sucessful!. The thing is when I try to import the file into DVDSP using Palette crashes automatically. I started trying other ways of importing and the same thing over and over again. I´ve tried to open the file on Quicktime and works perfectly, the preview works fine on finder. Everything seems to be in order. But when dragging the file into the timeline the program crashes. Sometimes also crashes when I open the program. I´ve repaired the disk permissions, downloaded the proapp update and installed it again.... nothing. Tried also re-installing the DVDSP and nothing. I tried importing the m2v file as an asset and the file appears on the list but when dragging it to the timeline, guess what?: crashes again. Finally I took the FCP project and compressed it again, thought maybe the other file was corrupted. Everything was fine until I tried dragging the file to the timeline when DVDSP crashed again... sorry but i´m f@*ing tired of this. CAN ANYONE HELP!!!!!!!...
Like i said before it´s been my 5th day in a row and nothing seems to work... Any help will be great!
Sorry for the long text but I tried to explain my process in detail so proper help can be found...
    Thanks in advance...
PS: have noticed that every topic with this kind of problem never got an answer...
very dissapointed with DVDSP... will not recommend to no-one...
    Sorry for the bad english

Hi Sebakd, welcome to the discussions.
Download and install the proapplication support file from Apple...
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/proapplicationsupport31macosx104.html
If that doesn't fix it, come back and let us know - there will be a simple reason for the issue.
In 9/10 cases the proapp support file fixes the problem, and in the vast majority of the posts citing this issue that fix is recommended in the replies for all to see.

  • DVD Studio Pro 4.0.3 crashes when import m2v files...please help me

All of a sudden, DVD Studio Pro 4.0.3. doesn't like any of my m2v files created by Compressor 2.0.1
these are the same m2v files I imported and burned into DVDs a couple months ago...and any new m2v files I create with Compressor...cause DVD Studio Pro to crash
DVD Studio Pro 4.0.3 will import old m2v files that I created a couple years ago using DVD Studio Pro 2 - and any new audio files created with Compressor and quicktime files from Final Cut Pro 5.
I have 1.5 GB of RAM...my drives are not too full...this was all working fine until recently and I can't see what has changed.

You can't download for the upgrade 4.1 is the Universal Binary and only part of the entire studio

  • Import .m2v file into Compressor.

    Hi,
Is it possible to Import a .m2v file into Compressor?
    If so, How?
    Thanks in advance.

    Try again.
    Yes.
Just a reminder that the m2v is an elementary stream – video only. If you need it muxed with audio, it can be done in DVD SP or in MPEG Streamclip.

  • Importing m2v-file: Error loading transcode preset

    Dear all,
Just have Encore 1.51 a few weeks now (eBay). But sofar I couldn't get a project together. Only problems when importing (good) m2v files. Also on the forum almost no solutions.
Once again I have an Error loading transcode preset. I just made a DVD from a video on my DVD recorder, demuxed it on my computer, but can't import it :((
I also have posted 2 previous topics concerning my other problems with Encore, but sofar nobody has an answer. I just want to have working software.
Can anyone really help. Otherwise it's wiser to sell this software.
    Han Bouman

    >Resolution: 704*576
Although Encore will accept 704x576 it will always re-transcode it to 720x576. That shouldn't be the reason for the "abnormal condition" error however.
Maybe Neil's suggestion of a DVD-Video illegal GOP structure applies.
You could do some more testing with
    MPEG Validator
. Are any of the GOPs larger than 15 frames? Does MPEG Validator report anything it doesn't like?

  • Importing m2v files into 09

I created a movie in FCP7---I exported it to compressor. It then created an m2v file.
I now want to import that m2v into iMovie09 but it will not appear.
When I click on the folder iMovie hangs up and crashes. Nothing appears in the folder and i know it is there.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks.

  • DVDSP 3 Not Importing m2v file, Unexpectedley Quits

I'm experiencing a very consistent quit, and I'm looking for a work around.
In trying to import an asset, I've created a reference movie file, and in the same folder placed the two compressed pieces that I'm trying to import (.aiff and .m2v). I can import the audio, but not the video. I can't even select it to trash it.
    Any suggestions?

    Hi Hal,
    Thanks for responding.
I downloaded and installed the latest proapp support file, as you suggested, and I tried opeing the file in QT (Pro). What's really curious to me is the behavior of the .m2v file. The only way I can trash it is by selecting it either with a set of files in the same folder, or by trashing the whole folder. Just selecting it by itself in the Finder causes the Finder window to go away. Selecting the file in DVDSP 3 causes an immediate quit. Same thing with trying to open it in QT.
My workflow has been FCP (4.5) sequence Export, QT movie (reference) > Compressor (60 min High Quality Encode) > DVDSP 3 Import... As I've said, I can import audio, no problem (.aiff). Bringing in the .m2v has been impossible, so far. Each time I select the file, the application (DVDSP 3) quits.

  • Import .m2v files - Question for experts - this is an interesting one

I have an internal and external harddrive.
I have copied an .m2v file from my external harddrive to my internal harddrive, then i switch off the external drive.
I load the .m2v file in Encore and as many others have experienced the slidebar goes to 99 % then returns to 90 % and basically loops the whole time.
HOWEVER ... when I switch my external harddisk on suddenly it loads the .m2v file, even though i specified to load the file from my internal harddrive. As soon as i turn off the external drive all the previe pics are gone, and i am left with a black video (background with language text). It's to do with linking, but I have not solved the problem.

The external HDD was switch off at the time.
Encore is part of the Production Bundle, which is a legitimate copy/original.
Something funny besides the issue of the external harddrive.
I have just created a simple file via PP2 Adobe Media Encoder (DVD compliant) => only a short avi film into the timeline of PP2 and added a title, thats it. The external HD was switched off. The created file sits in the internal drive. I cannot load it in Encore and it hangs during loading, but as soon as I start the external harddrive it loads, this is strange. help help ..

  • Importing .m2v files

Hi, all. To start, I'm a recently converted Avid guy--while this is a pretty exciting time in my career, in some ways I also feel like a little kid learning to tie his shoes for the first time.
I'm cutting together a reel of short movies for a small film festival, and all of the submissions are on DVD. I found MacTheRipper to convert the files into something usable.
Whenever I import into FCP and render the sequence, I get pretty frequent flashes of negative chroma, usually single frames. I think they might be extra frames for some reason, but it happens too often to cut them out. The festival is in less than a week and I don't have the time for that.
My easy setup settings are the default DV - NTSC. Please let me know if you need any more information.
    Thank you all very much,
    -Jesse Glucksman

    Hi Jesse
Welcome to FCP and the forum... if it's not too late, can I add my vote for trying MPEG Streamclip to convert the DVD content to the same format you are using for your sequence.
It may be a better solution than using Mac the Ripper and then having to render everything as you edit together the sequence
for free you won't find much better, or commercially you might look for DVDxDV or Cinematize
    cheers
    Andy

  • .m2v files not working in Encore CS6

When I import .m2v files to the timeline, some of them (only in the video track) are not showing. I tried to open them on other programs, like Windows Media Player, and they won't open too. BUT... when I tried to work with these files in another computer and another version of Encore (mine is the one that comes in the CS6 Master Collection), they seemed to work fine, and I could finish the DVD authoring. What could be the problem?

Sounds like a codec issue - present on one computer, not the other.
In the "bad" computer, Encore is activated, right?
Can you play one of the m2v files from the Encore library? Example, on my pc, C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Encore CS6\Library\Entertainment\NTSC\NTSC_Nightlife.m2v

  • PE7 creates but cant read m2v files

Working from HDV clips, output a file as m2v ( v because it contained no sound)but when I tried to import the clip into a project I'm told the file type is not supported or I don't have the correct codec installed. I was able to import m2v files when using PE3.

If you ever get your files to load into pre 7, you may run into another problem:
I can load .m2v files and .mpv files into pre 7, but there is a media pending message that won't go away. When I double-click on the thumbnail in the organizer, there is a message that indexing is going on. However, the indexing progress bar never progresses.
If I exit out of pre7 and rename the file "ImporterFastMpeg.prm" to "ImporterFastMpeg.prm.xxx" and then start pre7 and open the project again, the media pending messages no longer appear.
The ImporterFastMpeg.prm file is in c:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Premiere Elements 7.0\Plug-ins\en_US.
The ImporterFastMPEG.prm file is needed for indexing MPEG-2 files for quick access and keeping video and audio in sync.

  • Importing mts files

How can I capture and import m2v files from my Canon HV30 camcorder (uses tape) with Final Cut Pro 7?

You read the section in the manual on log and capture, and you use an easy setup in FCP that matches your media, most likely HDV 1080i60 FireWire Basic.

  • Desktop preview is de-interlacing or down-resing and fc hates m2v files

So, I'm new to FC. I've been using Avid and compositing packages for my video over the last few years.
I have a second monitor hooked up to my DVI port on my mac book pro. I have its resolution set to a reasonable 1280x800.
I want to set it to be a full screen preview monitor, so I have the "Digital Cinema Desktop Preview - Full Screen" option selected. I have it set to "Mirror" and I have it set to "All Frames" as per the various posts on this forum suggest.
    I have the following problems:
If my source file is a m2v (mpeg2) the Viewer and the external monitor lock together. Both scrubbing and playing display each frame identically and in sync with one another (exactly what I want). The only problem, is that FC seems to hate m2v files. Opening a project with over 100 m2v files prompts a 15 minute delay while FC does something with the m2v files. I've tried futzing with the tumbnail cache as other posts on the forum suggest, with no success. Importing m2v files individually prompt a delay of 10 - 20 seconds each (that mov files of the same content do not). That delay appears to be duplicated en-mass when opening a project with m2v sources. So I've given in to transcoding off of m2v and moved on.
If my source file is a mp4 file or mov file (converted from the m2v, using either mpeg stream clip or compressor), the image on the external display appears to be downres'd, or possibly de-interlaced (and therefore, line doubled, a kind of downres). The viewer however, displays the image at full res. If I make sure to adjust the clip in FC to a field dominance of "none" then cutting the clip into a progressive timeline results in a perfectly fine image. It considers it progressive when it renders to the timeline's codec (btw, leaving the field dominance as something that implies interlacing results in a deinterlace at render, and therefore a loss of resolution). I am however, left with the problem that I even though FC clearly understands that the footage is progressive due to its proper render, the preview on the external monitor will dinterlace it no matter what I do. If I change it to "raw" rather than "full screen" it does infact display it without deinterlacing or downres'ing. However, its small and centered as the source footage in this case is SD in size.
Beyond the deinerlace/downres issue, when using a mov or mp4 source, the viewer and external monitor do no lock even though I have "mirror" selected and both the viewer and the canvas are set to "Fit to Window" as many posts in this forum have suggested. What I get, is a split of behavior. Playing a source clip plays it on the external monitor but the viewer stays frozen. Scrubbing moves the viewer but the external monitor plays catchup (only updating once a second or so).
I have tried a bazillion codecs, from h264 to pixlet to photojpeg. They all behave the same with regard to deinterlacing and syncing.
So, can anyone comment on the behaviors I'm seeing here? They're driving me nuts. All I want is to have a nice fullscreen output on my external display thats the same as on my viewer. Clearly its possible, as the m2v files do it. But as stated, m2vs can't be used for other reasons.
    HELP!?!?!
    -brad

I can tell the difference between SD footage that has been blown up vs SD footage that has been downres'd and then blown up. This is a case of the latter. The change from full screen to raw very clearly changes the decoded image prior to a scale to the monitor (or in the case of a raw, no scale for the monitor). Its different decoding behavior.
Again, the image quality and behavior on the m2v files is different and correct. Same source material. Same resolution. Different wrapper format and codec. But for reasons stated prior, not usable due to a FC slowdown with that wrapper format (unless someone knows of a way to overcome that).
Yes I have opened the manuals. I would not be posting here if the manuals had answered my question. And yes, I've searched the forums for similar issues, and have made note of the solutions and suggestions I've tried. I'm trying to be a good forum citizen here but the tone and caliber or responses are troubling and patronizing.
Your suggestion is noted but I will turn to other solutions before buying the thousands (if not tens of thousands) of dollars worth of storage required to keep all this footage as DV. That being said, I have transcoded a test clip to DV to check it out and it behaved no differently than the codecs listed prior. I did however, discover some new behavior that may be useful in figuring this out.
When I make sure to set the footage to "none" for field dominance, and put it in the timeline, as stated, it renders correctly, without a downres. However, when I double click the clip in the timeline, bringing it back into the source viewer window, it starts acting correctly. It is full res, blown up to full screen in the external monitor. It operates in lock step between the viewer and the external monitor. This problem only shows itself when viewing a source clip from a bin that has not been in the timeline yet. I can even drag the clip back into the bin, making a subclip, and the subclip acts correctly. Though, the new sourceclip does have an emtpy filter stack and a inactive motion tab on it now, perhaps indicating why its acting differently.
I have a functioning xml importer script so I'll take a look and see if there is an element I can add to a clip in a bin that will result in the same "fix" without having to subclip. However, if anyone has any other ideas as to why the viewer and desktop preview is acting so very different playing a directly imported file versus a subclipped but otherwise unaffected file, specifically with regard to resolution or interlacing, I'd be interested to hear them.

  • DVD Studio Pro Crashes when trying to import file

    Hey all,
Hope you can help me because this is driving me crazy!
Whenever I try to import .ac3/.m2v files to DVDSP, the program crashes. The strange thing is that it is happening only when I try it on one particular file. I seem to be able to import anything else but the audio/video files I really need!  I've tried re-compressing, and re-naming the file, I've also tried importing the file on a different computer, but nothing seems to work.   I haven't tried reinstalling since it seems to work with other files and I've tried it on separate computers.
I'm using Final Cut 7 with Snow Leopard

In FCP, export the file in 4 different chunks.
In Compressor, convert each chunk to ac3/m2v.
    Import each chunk into DVDSP.
Do they ALL cause problems or is it only one chunk?
If only one chunk, there is something wonky with the video in that segment.
Divide it up and go through the same process until you identify the offending source video. Once identified you have a couple of options -
    1. Cut it out and try to stich the material around the hole.
    2. Try using Digital Rebellion's ProMediaTools to see if it can fix the problem.
    3. If the original media was in a different format, go back to the original media, reconvert it and replace the bad segment.

What the best (less compression on video only) way to import a movie of a dvd in final cut pro 5.0.4 and 5.1 . Will fcp import a m2v file. If any other software in involved, let me know. What the settings in the timeline set? Would it matter if the dvd was widescreen or 4:3 in the setting for sequences? Thankyou for reading this and any responces will be helpful.. E.

I am using the mpeg streamclip. for a 2 hour movie, and the export of hdv 60i, its taking over three hours and its at 60 percent. is that normal for the export setting? Also, i tried to rip the dvd staraight into the mpeg streamclip, but was having trouble. I had allready rip it in the m2v file and imported that into mpeg streamclip and it works. Is there a way i can skip that step and go directly in mpeg streamclip.
