DVD startup times out
I corrupted my mac mini and want to restore it back to better days from Time Machine. In order to do a full restore, I understand I must boot the computer from an external DVD ROM. So I have my external drive plugged in, Firewire 400 to 800. I've booted from this before. Now, when I start the Mini holding down the "C" key, I get the gray screen with a no disk indication. That lasts for about 30 seconds then nothing (eventually causing my monitor to shut off power due to no signal). NO activity from the computer. Booting directly from its own hard drive, it boots up fine (except corrupted). It sees the OSX disk. I even have assigned the disk as the start up disk. If the disk is present, gray screen. If the disk is off, it goes to the internal drive and boots. I can't seem to get past this timing out feature. It stops trying after 30 seconds. I never hear the External DVD activate.
Try booting from the recovery partition and then reinstalling. See:

WebLogic Server Times OUT during DEBUG mode startup
Hi,
I am having a issue where my WebLogic Server 10.3 times out when I try to run it in debug mode in my workshop. Below is the error I get.
"Timeout waiting for Oracle WebLogic Server v10.3 at localhost to start. Server did not start after 480s. "
Do anyone have any idea why this is happening? I have reinstalled workshop but still same error.
ThanksI have also seen this error when the debug mode does not start.

Sporadic issues with wireless connection (dhcpcd times out)
I'm using a wireless usb adaptor Dlink DWA 110 (chipset rt73). It can connect fine some times, but many times it times out on dhcpcd. Raising the time out time causes it to hold indefinitely on the message "offered 192.168.0.132 from 192.168.0.1". Analyzing the dmesg, I see

I've tried googling, but no suggestion seems to work. Any help? This is basically a workaround, but still. You can try hold_connect script to automatically watch connection status. It can be found here: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=103139. Just add "iwconfig wlan0 power off" string in function connect under "sudo netcfg down ..." line.

can you help me please? It seems, that all Windows machines develop this type of long startup-times over time. Conclusion: Bad quality operating system . There are a few things you may try: Disk cleanup, disk defragmentation and avoiding non-neccesary start-up programs running msconfig. My experience is, that all of these have limited impact, so the ultimate solution is a clean re-install of Windows. To do this, back-up all user data and use recovery disks as available.

Set up for HP Designjet 500ps using Mac os x 10.4.11 Does any one know where to upload
Leopard os x 10.5 The printer will not print until I have the updated software. Ebay sell the
disc on their auction site, but only on disc not a download which is more convenient & faster
to get in a hurry. The software installed in the mac is working the way it should & showing up
as it would but it seems as though there is a driver that's needed. The results in any articals
that I have read suggest you don't need any drivers if you use HP EasyPhotoSoftware installed.Welcome to Apple Support Communities. We're users here, not "Apple Inc."
You might have better a response to your questions by posting them in the OS X 10.4 Tiger forums: https://discussions.apple.com/community/mac_os/mac_os_x_v10.4_tiger
or in the PowerMac forums:
https://discussions.apple.com/community/desktop_computers/power_macof
This forum is for OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard. Since that version won't run on your PowerMac, you're not likely to get many helpful responses here.
In any case, I'll try to offer some basic troubleshooting suggestions:
The PS designation on your printer denotes the PostScript printer language. Is your applications software and current printer driver configured to send PostScript (or HP-GL or HP-PCL or ???)
Does ANY application print anything (even gibberish) to the printer?
HP still shows a DesignJet 500 series raster driver for OS X 10.4 Tiger available to download here:

Does the printer time-out with every program, or just one? Have you tried another cable?
OS X 10.5 Leopard is no longer sold by Apple. It was never sold as a download, sold only on CD/DVD disc. Discs might still be available for purchase on eBay.
OS X 10.6 "Snow Leopard" is the oldest version of OS X still sold by Apple, and it too is available ONLY on CD/DVD for $20, but it will not run on your PowerMac, because Snow Leopard requires an Intel processor: os x snow leopard requirements
HP DesignJet 500 basic printer documentation is available as a pdf document and downloadable file here: http://h20566.www2.hp.com/portal/site/hpsc/public/psi/manualsResults?sp4ts.oid=2 5301&ac.admitted=1391720518005.876444892.199480143
How is the printer connected to the computer? Are you using a USB interface, a Centronics 'Parallel' interface, or a JetDirect network interface?
It appears that the network timeout default for the printer was 30 minutes, but it can apparently be set in the range of anything 30-seconds and longer. The manual notes that some software does not send an 'end of job' postscript marker, so that is the reason for the time-out setting.

Mac Pro does not wakeup 1 of 3 connected monitors: Philips times out
Hi,
(Setup)
I use a Mac Pro from 2014 (End 2013, AMD Firepro, D700 Graphics, 6core, 1TB SSD, 32MB, actual OSX Yosemite 10.10.2).
Connected are three monitors:
Philips BDM 4065 UC (40 great inches) via mini DP to DP cable
2x Dell 2410 (vertical/pivot to the sides of the 40" screen)
(Problem)
The setup is a dream for me, with one glitch:
when the Mac goes to sleep, all monitors nicely sleep with it. Waking the Mac up again, brings the Mac up and the Dells but not the Philips. It tries to get up (a bit of backlight to be seen), then shows a message that it goes to sleep again.
(Troubleshooting so far)
I experimented with it:
- power cycling the monitor brings it back into business
- pulling the DP cable temporarily does the job too ... sometimes
(Assumed root-cause)
Today I believe I found the reason:
In a forum sb. complained that the Philips takes long to wake up. Ok! The Dells that work are back ... instantly.
I tried this: wakeup, wait two seconds, put the Mac to sleep (mouse into active corner) and wake it up immediately.
The description sound a bit like "dance around the tree three times at full moon", but it works. What I believe that happens:
Fail:
- the Mac wakes up
- the Dells are awake instantly
- the Philips slowly wakes up
- the Mac gets impatient about the Philips and times out waiting for the monitor, stopping the signal supply
- the Philips falls back into sleep (and displays this as a message)
Workaround:
- the Mac wakes up, Dells wake up
- waste two seconds, while the Philips is still trying to wake up
- hammer the Mac back into sleep, and wake it up again
- the Philips is so slow it doesn't even notice this "brutal shaking" of the Macs wake-state
- the activite resets the wake-up-timeout of the Mac giving the Philips effectively enough time to report "ready" before even the second wake-up times out.
- et voila: a fully awake set of monitor
Now the big question:
I this timeout that the Mac on wake-up waits for a Monitor to become ready a configurable item? Can I extend this period by a few seconds to get my dream setup actually working? I fear I won't be able to make Philips solve the long wake-up time, so I check on the Apple side.
Thanks in advance. So update. Boot camp now works...somehow. Not sure how I fixed it but this is what I did that lead to it. As you asked I tried to make a boot drive on a USB for OS X Mavericks, But the App store would not let me download it. So instead I made one with OS X Yosemite. After witch I shut it down, pulled the USB and restarted. At witch point I got a gray screen. I then restarted and opened the startup manager. It only showed a install and a restore drive. Tried restore, but it just brought me back to the gray screen. At witch point I opened disk utility and repaired my main HD, and restarted. Still gray screen. So then I booted in safe mode witch brought me to my account login (and my screen flashed a bit). After I logged in I restarted again. Witch once again brought me back to gray screen. So I tried reseting my NVRAM with no success. Started in safe mode again and went to my start up disk and selected my main boot drive and restarted. All returned to normal and boot camp now works. Not sure what I did to fix the problem as i'm not that computer savvy but thanks for all your help and I hope you can gather some information from my random desperate attempts to get my computer running normally again.
In the end it all worked out
thanks again -
Network times out on Power Mac
My G4 Power Mac (running 10.4) can load many web pages ok, but if there is a large file or a sustained download, such as streaming video, it will stop downloading and time out. I can open a new Safari page and start over, no problem.
Same thing for file transfers between machines on my network. It will stop transferring.
Software update sometimes finishes evaluating my need for updates, but if I try to update it usually fails before files are downloaded.
This machine is currently running in a place where another machine was, using the same network connection, cable etc. The other machine had no problem, while this machine exhibits the problem wherever I put it.
Is it likely a hardware issue (I've done a clean install of the OS)? Is there an inexpensive network card that is supported by 10.4 that I can put on this machine to find out?You can use Network Utility to look at the error counts for your Ethernet interface. Anything over a handful of errors at startup usually indicates a problem.
If you have a Router with multiple ports, try a different port. My experience is that the ports don't fail outright, they just get more and more errors.
There is an Apple Ethernet 10/100 PCI card that was made for older Macs like the 8600 and beige G3. They are available from time to time on the used market. If you get another brand, be sure to get the Mac drivers with it -- many of the makers are out of business and the drivers are hard to find. -
Hi,
we have updated our System to SPS 14 (MW+BE) to make our clients vista ready. I have create a new setup package and updated the Java version of the client to jdk 1.5.0_11. After Starting the client I get the "Time Out 61 Error". The Startup Output seems to be good, all variables are set. And I dont know what to do.
Her is the Output from the Startup.bat
If anyone have a clou that can help me, makes me very glad.

To install and launch MI Client on Windows Vista OS, install SUN JDK/JRE 1.5 Update 11 and higher. This is because only this version of SUN J2SE supports Windows Vista OS. For details please refer to http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/system-configurations.html.
I think I have to install this version of Java.

I wrote a script that opens an online radio station when iCal tells it to to act as a sort of alarm clock for me. The only way that this works is because I tell my computer to turn on at 9:55am via the Energysaver Scheduler option so that the computer can start up and allow iCal to open and activate the script. However, being that I am in college, I do not wake up at the same time everyday. Energy saver can only schedule the same time for every weekday, everyday, or one day at a time. Just one time. Do any of you know a way to set my computer to wake up at different times on different days?
ThanksJegdart: I have no intel-mac at home, but tested that too on a friends intel-mac. Set startup-time on MacOS, shutdown and indeed machine starts into windows. Later my friend said that it didn't work anymore after he had once booted into windows and shut it down before the startup time would kick in (startup-time settings lost?). I would be very gratefull if you/someone could verify this.
1. Also we found out that when you restart into MacOS again, the system clock is way-of and back in windows, again way of. Both have a different system time but after a short period (network time server) this gets corrected. Documentation suggest the chip time is/should be GMT.
2. Bootcamp/EFI acts as a bios-driver for windows to be able to run. So i have to test if
a tool like http://www.boraxsoft.de/CMOSTimer_eng.html will be able to poke thru and
really set the RTC timer. (It would be sad if i destroyed my friends chipset with such a tool)
Way better would be if Apple added startup-time to the bootcamp control-panel in windows.
thanx for your suggestions so far. -
Weblogic 7.0 startup time is very bad
We just upgraded to weblogic 7.0, jdk1.3.1_03 and are on solaris 8. We find that
the startup time is horribly slow and very pathetic. Talked to support, not much
of help there except that they accepted the fact. Removed UDDI, webservices.jar.
Any startup performance improvements from anyone out here? The startup time sucks
a lot and the support wants us to wait till SP1 which would eat away a lot of
developer time waiting for the server to start. Does anyone else have a problem
regarding the same? In 5.1 the whole application used to start up like in 2 minutes,
now we see that it takes about 8-10 minutes which is totally unacceptable.
Any help would be appreciated as this is wasting a lot of our time out here. Is
migrating to weblogic 7.0 worth it given its performance compared to 5.1?
Shiva.I have one domain running. In development mode we have only one server.
The development server without anything deployed in it alone takes more
than 2 minutes to startup. Below is the complete dump of the server when
there is nothing deployed in it.
Time stamp here is 10:39:29.

Any startup performance improvements from anyone out here? The startup
time sucks
a lot and the support wants us to wait till SP1 which would eat away
a lot of
developer time waiting for the server to start. Does anyone else have
a problem
regarding the same? In 5.1 the whole application used to start up like
in 2 minutes,
now we see that it takes about 8-10 minutes which is totally unacceptable.
Any help would be appreciated as this is wasting a lot of our time out
here. Is
migrating to weblogic 7.0 worth it given its performance compared to
5.1?

I'm using Safari 4.0.3 for Windows on XP SP3 and it seems to take a long time to start. After I've already run it once and cached everything, starting still takes 8 seconds. I used procmon from Microsoft to watch what it's doing, and 5 seconds of that time is spent trying to contact local port 5354 (mdnsresponder, part of Bonjour I think), while the CPU and disk aren't doing anything.
What's up?yes - literally 5 minutes
when I start it from the command line I get this message
StartSocket: passing startup args to already-running Azureus java process listening on [127.0.0.1: 6880]
Eventually I get a SocketException as it times out.
I presume something else is using port 6880. Does anyone know what this is or how I can find out? Why is Azurerus trying to use 6880, I can't see anywhere where this can be changed? -
Hi,
seem to be getting on ok with my new Arch system (the documentation is pretty decent), but I'm getting a weird problem with Azureus. I click on it, and it takes literally 5 mins to start up!
Once it's started up it's fine, and I get very high download speeds (unlike some of the other people on this forum it would seem), but it takes 5 mins before the splash screen appears :?

G4 Desktop Mac OS X (10.4.4)None, or ClamXav if you must have something.
Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of this exercise is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login. Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
Note: If FileVault is enabled under Mac OS X 10.7 or later, you can’t boot in safe mode.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem(s)?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test. -
