DVD sticking when played

I burned a 1:20 min.DVD (twice) using different brand names; Phillips 8x and LG 8x, each time it plays it jerks & sticks. I usually use Verbatim 8x as I see recommended and get good results but lately I have not been able to get Verbatim in 8x where I live here in Jamaica. I am thinking of ordering down some DVD-R from the USA.
(1) I see where the DVD-R Taiyo Yuden are highly recommended but they only come as slow as 8x. Do you think they will work with with my burner? Or should I order the Verbatim that comes in 4x?
(2) Would Compressor help with this plaguing problem?
Editing in FCE 3.5
I am authoring in DVD SP 4
The burner is PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-104.
HELP!! I have some very important work outstanding
Awaiting your knowledgeable advice.
Trevor.

You should ask these question in the DVD Studio Pro forums but:
I always burn the disc as slow as I can
Create a disc image first. Do this in build and format. Once you've encoded the disc image you can use disc utility to burn it at 2 or even 1X
I've pretty much been reduced to buying 16X discs as slower speeds are becoming more difficult to find. I like the Verbatim too, as well as the Tayo Yuden. I have actually had very good results with the TDK white printables but maybe I'm the only one on the planet who has.
Controlling your burn speed may help you out.

    Trevor.

Just to give you a tip.
Many of the newer 16X Media works and works very well.
The tip is this. Look at the packaging that the DVD's come in.
They will clearly state that the DVD's will read and write in the newer and the older Optical Drives.
    1X,2X,4X,8X,16X.
    I personally use 16X DVD-R Maxell
I also prefer to purchase those in 5 pack that inlude the individual Jewel Cases, as they have shown to be of a higher quality then the larger 30-50 and 100 dvd spools.

  • Finger sticks when playing games

  • DVD freeze when play

    Hi everybody
I was just informed that one of the DVD I made "freeze" and "jump" images when playing reaches about half.
On my decks it runs fine.
I prepared the DVD as I used to. They did not change their player.
I just changed the brand of DVD.
Could that be a reason ?
If not what could I check ?
If yes why is it so ?
    Thanks in advance
    Bernard

Thanks a lot David for this prompt answer
#3 Ask your client to try the DVD in another player
and see if the same problem at the same places
    repeats itself.
I already did. I am awaiting their reply.
#4 Check to make sure the bit rate settings you made
for both the audio and video aren't too high. Use
AC3 (Dolby) audio whenever possible. Some players
have been known to choke on the data rate required by
    AIF audio.
what would you consider as "too high" when you don't know which player is going ot be used .
    I used target 4.5-max 7.5, 2passes MPEG2
#5 It could be something as simple as their DVD
    Player needing a lens cleaning.
OK I will tell them but they have no trouble with other commercial DVDs
#6 Always test DVDs on multiple brands of players
before releasing them to your client.
This is what I did and I had no problem

  • DVD skips when playing on standalone

I have a Dual 2.7 withthe Pioneer 109 Apple OEM drive. Typically I burn 4-7 dvd's a week. For the last week I have had problems with the disc skipping or hanging. It's very sporadic on where it occurs on the disc and doesn't neccesarily do it at the same place on each player I use. Other discs I've burned in months past using the same media are fine. I have replicated this with 3 different types of media. Anyone have similar problems?
FYI: I use a high end Sony on one tv and I also have a Oppo 971 upscaling player for my HT projector. i also have a third Sony dvd in the HT room which also does it as well. So I've ruled out the Player as the culprit.
I'm thinking it's the laser when burning. That error correction is preventing the error from showing up when I verify it in Toast, but that the laser is slightly off track or unfocused when burning causing the poradic issues when playing in a stand alone.
    Any other suggestions or experiences.

This may or may not be the answer you seek, but I have found that Mac Burners are very very sensitive to Media.
By this I mean if there is even a hint of a fingerprint, a scratch, of any kind, or a smudge, almost anything other than a pristine piece of media, both when burning and playback can and will cause.
    Skipping.
    Pausing.
    Color fading.
    Errors on playback.
as well as several other issues that can carry over to and show up on your computer as well as stand alone players.

  • CD skips or sticks when playing in iTunes

Does anyone know a solution to this problem. When using iTunes to play a CD sometimes a song will stick, skip a few seconds, or stop playing and iTunes will stop. When playing the same disc and song with Windows Media Player on the same machine it will play the entire song with no problems. How can this be fixed?

  • DVD freeze when play back on  dvd player

    Hello,
I create a DVD with DVD SP 3.01, When I play back the dvd in 3 brand of dvd player it freeze after 12 min of playback for about 2 sec and after continue to play to go to an other freeze about 10 to 12 min after. It does that in dvd with 25 min and more. If I do a small dvd of 10 min I see no freeze. I ckeck the MPEG2 file made by FCP and there is no freeze inside of it. I also put the QT directly in DVD sp ( encode it before burn ) and I have the same problem. Any idea...
    thanks

It may be the brand of disc. Try Verbatim DVD-R or Verbatim DVD+R DL.

  • Dvds choppy when playing on mac min

this problem just started.when i put in the dvds they play but its choppy.

  • Help, my newly burnt dvd disk when played through tv dvd reads, no audio no image

please can anyone help me , i've been trying to use my project library with movie that I would like to burn to disc but each time i get info to burn folder and then play disc through my dvd player, message comes up ( no audio no image on disc) i have used so many discs now it's getting silly

Well, for anyone with a similar problem, I solved this by opening my dvd project and changing the menu theme for the menu that was giving me problems. I then burned the disc image again and burned a dvd disc from the disc image. The new disc plays everything on the tv. But, as an aside, while my dvd player and my G4 could read the new disc, my G3 can't read it!
I continue to use the same brand of discs that gave me a problem before, and have sucessfully burned copies at both 1x and 2x speed, the two burn speeds available on my G4 using Disk Utility.

  • Movies stall or hang up when playing on  DVD player

I've used both IDVD 5 and iDVD 6 but the problem continues. DVD's tend to "hang up" or "stick" at multiple scenes when playing on a DVD player. The same problem occurs on all sorts of DVD player of family and friends. This issue does not happen when playing the DVD on a computer. The movies are created in iMovie and the sent to iDVD with Themes added and then burned. I've tried disc immaages vs a burn - same result.
Any ideas what is causing this problem and how to overcome?

My iMac G5 is 2 months old, so probably not an issue. I am currently using Memorex 16X DVD's, but get the stall, hang up and freeze problem when playing on DVD players. This is not an issue playing back on computers. I started making movies on a Dell a year ago using Microsoft Movie Maker and experienced the same problem. Totally different systems, different applications...but the same issue.
All sorts of makes DVD players both in the U.S. and England and Canada have problems playing my DVDs.
I have tried saving as a disc image and the burning, but not a solution.
Is Toast better than using Apple's iDVD or disk utility to burn DVD's. Is there any way to control burn speed? Does Toast allow different burn speeds? Should I use 16X DVD's or 8X or whatever?

  • No sound when playing a DVD on my Lenovo 3000 N200 (0769-A44)

    Hi,
I recently got an N200 under Vista Home Premium.  Everything is doing well, except an annoying problem with PowerDVD 7 which is factory-installed.  When I play a DVD with PowerDVD, there is no sound.  With Windows Media player, MediaCenter and even MediaPlayer Classic, the sound is there.  Only with PowerDVD is there no sound.
Any hint on how to solve this ?
    Thanks !
    .merle1.
Update 2008-04-30 : the problem only appears when playing commercial DVD that rely on AC3 codec for sound. For recorded DVD that use MPEG2-Layer2, sound is OK. Seems to be a limitation of PowerDVD OEM. However, if there is a solution ...

Thanks for sharing this. For the moment, and until someone finds a solution, I am relying on WMP and also on an opensource player that can play DVD, Media Player Classic :

Very easy to use. May be it will solve your problem with the DVD player noise ? There is also an excellent media play, that plays DVD, and that I intend to install : JetAudio 7, from Cowon.

  • Computer Freezes When Playing Certain DVD

I just bought my first Mac in the form of the new generation of Macbook Pros last week. There is one DVD that seems to always freeze in the same spot when playing in my computer. When I start playing from after that point, it plays normally for awhile and then freezes again. It freezes to the point that I can only shut down the computer to fix it because force quit does not work and I cannot get out of fullscreen mode. I just tried the DVD on a friend's Macbook that he bought in November and it played without any problems. Could this be a problem with the drive or is the DVD probably to blame? Any help would be greatly appreciated, including advice on closing the program without shutting down the computer.

    Same problem here. Some notes:
Has occurred on at least two different DVDs for me; both unscratched and playable without issue in other drives.
I believe the picture freezes first, then the sound freezes a few seconds later. Mouse can be moved, but movement is jerky, like the mouse position is being updated at 5fps.
Hard reboot only way out; I've let it sit 20+ minutes to see if it recovers, no luck.

Go to the Map mode in your iDVD project and make sure the blue bin at the left is empty.  That's where you drag slideshows to if you want the DVD to open immediately to that slideshow and bypass the menu.
If there is an item in there drag it out.

  • I am trying to burn DVDs from iPhoto slideshows.  My pictures number in the hundreds and we know that iPhoto captures 99 and then "starts over".  This plays fine from the Mac Book but glitches arise on the DVD when playing it on a DVD player.  Any suggsts

I am trying to burn DVDs from iPhoto slideshows.  My pictures number in the hundreds and we know that iPhoto captures 99 and then "starts over".  This plays fine from the Mac Book but glitches arise on the DVD when playing it on a DVD player.  Any suggestions on how to overcome the 99 "Chapter limitation" that IPhoto has?  Has anyone heard or tried an app called Vilisoft?  I read good things but I am not sure if it will do what I want.
    Jim

Then use multipel 99 picture slideshows.
You can have up to 8 or 9 slideshows per menu.  If you add a sub menu reduce that by 1 and add 8 more to the sub menu.  The top menu can have links to up to 8 or so submenus (depends on the theme) and each submenu can have up to 8 or so slideshows.
However, converting a very large slideshow to a QT movie as Terence suggested does not envoke the 99 slide limit in iDVD.  It just becomes a single video/movie file.  So you should not have a problem with exporting at the large size, 720 x 540,
and dragging the resulting file into the iDVD menu being sure to avoid any drop zones.
