DVD stops in player

I've tried so many things and burned so many coasters--hopefully someone will come up with the missing link!
My DVD's appear to be fine and play in the computer. In a DVD player, however, the menu comes up, but playing a title causes the DVD to stop, returning to the player screen. I'm using media that has worked great in the past (Ridata). Here's what I've done:
- Upgraded to iDVD 5.0.1. I was having the same problem in 4.0.1.
- Trashed preferences.
- Software Update.
- Repaired permissions.
- Run MacJanitor.
- Run Preferential Treatment.
- Run Cache Out X.
- Cleaned drive.
All with plenty of restarts. Any other ideas? Could my Superdrive be broken? It's 3 years old and has burned hundreds of discs. Thanks for any help.

IDVD doesn't like being messed around with...
My last project used 26 black and titled TIFFs I inserted between slideshow images. Had no trouble. I didn't like the looks of the JPEG version.

  • DVD STOPS BURNING!!??

    Hello!!
    It's the 3:rd time the DVD stops at the burning process on my new project!!
    The disc ejects in the middle of the burning or at the "lead in" with a error message.
    Someone who knows what to do...?? Will try to make a diskimage but it says that DVD DL won't play in all DVD:s. That's why I'm trying to death here... If it only didn't take so many hours to encode the sound... Getting bored waiting every time to get another error message after 7 hours hoping!!!
    Please help!!

    Welcome to iDVD Discussions.
    Creating a disk image is the best way to deal with this. I've made a few DL images and burned them to Verbatim DVD+R DL with Toast, and they work fine on my Sony player. They may not play on all players. This whole recordable DVD thing is pretty new, let alone DL recordable...

  • Burned dvd stops before last slide

    I had about 125 photos in a slideshow I just burned on a DVD. It plays fine until photo 65 and then stops. My save show plays all the way through in IDVD but the burned dvd stops. Any ideas why or what I can do? It is not a rewritable DVD.

    First:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302961
    Second:
    Create a disk image and see how that plays. Your burned DVD should function the same way. Might be media-related.
    I recommend a disk image burned to Verbatim DVD-R at 4X or slower using Toast or Disk Utility.
    David Pogue also recommends Verbatim on page 356 of his latest book:
    iMovie HD & iDVD 6: The Missing Manual
    Quoting David: "Cheaper brands don't use the same amount of organic dyes and are more likely to suffer premature deaths."

  • How do I stop Quicktime player from auto-launching after I've exported a movie from iMovie 10?

    How do I stop Quicktime player from auto-launching after I've exported a movie from iMovie 10?
    It's really annoying for Quicktime player to auto-lauch!

    It may not be that simple David. They're using a "server" and some of the Apache software may want to launch QuickTime at boot.
    This isn't really a QuickTime question. It's a sever question best answered in those Discussion pages.

  • Mouse won't stop scrolling player

    Problem: Mouse won't stop scrolling player
    Adobe Flash Player 9 (9.0.115.0)
    I double click a SWF file.
    It comes up in Adobe Flash Player 9.
    I switch to another program.
    I switch back to the Flash Player.
    Just moving the mouse (without holding down the mouse) moves
    the player scroll.
    I cannot turn mouse scrolling off so scrolling stops.
    Esc does not solve problem.
    I appreciate your feedback.

    tech78g:
    I get what you're saying, but in the system preferences there are clearly options for
    "Scroll direction: natural — Content tracks finger movement"
    and for
    "Swipe between pages — Scroll left or right with one finger"
    both indicating that if unchecked, there should be no scrolling or swiping with any finger movement. Yet mine continues doing both, with both unchecked.
    It's not just annoying. It's interfering with my work.

  • How to stop flash player showing errors?

    Hi, does anyone know how to stop flash player showing runtime
    errors? Is there some configuration option, or is it possible to
    write a global error handler which would catch all the uncaught
    exceptions so they don't get displayed to the users?
    In my specific situation I've got 3rd party panorama
    component in my flash site which creates some timers and listeners
    but doesn't remove them when panorama is unloaded and then errors
    keep showing periodically. Nothing else gets harmed and the site
    keeps running normally, so it would be useful to just hide those
    errors before a new version of the buggy component is released.
    Thanks for any hint how to handle this !

  • Burned DVD stops or music skips at 100th chapter

    I am creating a slideshow with music in iDVD. When playing the burned dvd the music skips or the dvd stops at the 100th picture. Any fix for the problem? I noticed that iDVD automatically assigns each picture its own chapter so it could be the 100th chapter that causes the problem. If so, is there any way to have more than 1 picture per chapter?
    Thanks for your help!

    The 99 photos was because, as the original poster indicates, each photo is a chapter and the Video DVD standard (nothing to do with Apple, but the industry standard) is 99 chapters max. These days many players will play past 99 chapters, but many others, especially older ones, the strictly conform to the DVD standard balk when there are more than 99 chapters.
    So while iDVD will now allow slide shows past 99 photos, if you want your DVD to be compatible with the most set top players, you are better off limiting your slideshow to no more than 99 photos. If you want more, then you want to create your slideshow manually in iPhoto or iMovie and place your own chapter markers keeping the number of chapters under 100.

  • Cannot stop a player when is playing

    hi,
    i'm a beginner in jmf and i'm traying to do a simple player application: i have 2 buttons, a start button and a stop button.
    the start button starts the player:
    player.realize();
    player.prefetch();
    player.start()
    and the stop button try to stops the player:
    player.stop();
    player.deallocate();
    player.close();
    if i realized the start button and inmediatily the stop button de player stops, but when the player is started the stop button don't works. any suggestion ?
    thanx

    the start button starts the player:
    player.realize();
    player.prefetch();
    player.start()
    and the stop button try to stops the player:
    player.stop();
    player.deallocate();
    player.close();I think you're putting too much into your buttons -- particularly the stop button, since closing means you can't restart the player.
    It would be better if your buttons only did start() and stop(). You can realize your player in the process of building your GUI, and you can put the close in a shutdown method (eg, something you call when the window is closed).
    I think deallocate() is unneccessary if you're just going to close()

  • How do i burn an audio dvd in my thinkpad x-201 with ulthinkpad trabase and dvd/cd burner/ player

    hello,,
    would someone please point me to directions about how to burn a dvd audio disc. i've looked at various lenovo sites, but no luck [i don't even know the how-to basics, so pls excuse my ignorance].  there doesn't appear to be any application/program for burning dvds and cds on this machine.
    using windows xp pro, sp3, thinkpad x-201 with x200 ultrabase and dvd/cd burner/ player
    thank you.

    hi, thanks for your earlier reply. here's a clarification of my question:
    i have a cd with music from an album mix. because a cd lacks enough space to copy the entire album, i would like to burn it on a dvd, which has more than enough space.
    do i simply copy the cd into windows media player's library, and then burn it from media player to a dvd?
    or, is there a cd/dvd burner available from some manufacturers? i seem to recall roxio or nero as software that will give me what i want.
    my lenovo x201 thinkpad rests on an ultrabase that has dvd/cd burners.
    i am so confused.
    again, thanks for replying.

  • DVDs stop playing

    Why would a DVD stop playing? How can a person make a DVD and be sure it will play? Several persons that I have made DVDs for have said that their DVD suddenly stops playing. These DVDs were made with iDVD the "one step to movie" selection under iDVD/File.
    I first created a slideshow with Keynote and then exported it to a QuickTime movie and used the QuickTime movie for the iDVD "one step to movie" and burned several DVDs "at the same

    Often, that symptom is caused by errors in the burning process. "One Step" can be fine, but I prefer breaking down the process (if you search on "Save as disk image" you'll see concurrence and instructions). Errors can also be the result of low quality disks - Verbatim DVD-R disks are often recommended around here (I also like Sony).

  • DVD+R works on Mac and Playstation but not a DVD or Bluray Player

    I converted old VHS tapes to DVD for my Grandma, and I checked to make sure they worked using my Mac and Playstation. When I gave it to her neither her DVD or Bluray Player reads it.  Is there a way to fix this?   Also I had converted a wedding to dvd (using the same DVD+R) and the person said it works fine on their DVD player.
    So do I need to own both +R and  -R?

    Found a solution to the problem. The permissions for the firefox.app file were not set to admin - read-write. After adding this permission using the get info menu item when right clicking the file name in the applications folder, the tab now automatically opens when clicking on Email link.

  • Stop flash player  security panel

    Hi,
         I want to stop flash player security panel to appear every time in my video recorder. I apply allow and remember but still popup appears. How I can stop this popup if once user chooses allow and remember?
    Thanks,

    The security pop-up was first introduced with FP7. If you want to bypass it I can name two ways off the top of my head:
    1. Regardless of ActionScript version (2.0/3.0) in the Flash authoring enviroment, in the Publish Settings dialogue box, the Flash tab, near the bottom choose Access Network Only from Local Playback Security.
    2. Publish your movie as a projector. Both of these techniques will allow to "play" your swf file locally.

  • HT204370 If I buy a movie on iTunes and burn it to a DVD can I get to to play in a DVD/Blu-ray player?  I haven't had much luck trying to do so.

    If I buy a movie on iTunes and burn it to a DVD can I get to to play in a DVD/Blu-ray player?  I haven't had much luck trying to do so.

    No you cannot.
    You can only make a backup dvd of your movies, fo use in itunes on yur computer.  You cannot burn a video product to dvd to watch on a dvd player, just as you cannot copy a dvd that you purchase.

  • Player.stop() doesn't stop the player

    Hello,
    I'm new in jmf. I found an example of SimplePlayerApplet on internet and it works and replay the video when it's finished.
    code :
    if (event instanceof EndOfMediaEvent) {
         // We've reached the end of the media; rewind and
         // start over
         player.setMediaTime(new Time(0));
         player.start();
    I wanted to change the code to stop the player when it reaches the end of video but it doesn't work.
    if (event instanceof EndOfMediaEvent) {
    if (player != null)
    {    //stop the movie
    player.stop();
    player.deallocate();
    I even tried to use setStopTime but there is no difference. The player doesn't stop.
    Can somebody help me please.
    Thanks in advance

    I faound the problem.
    My application was reading the sample applet of jmf and not my applet.
