DVD stuck in drive ... tried everything...

I have an older (2007) Macbook Pro with a DVD stuck inside of it.
I have tried to force eject by using
Terminal commnand
Restart holding mouse / trackpad
Restart holding EJECT
Restart holding OPTION
and even downloading DISK EJECT app.
None have worked.
The DVD does not show up on my desktop nor in any application.
When I attempt to burn a disc in iTunes (to see if it sees a disk in the drive) it tell me that there is no burner or software.
When I start up the macbook I hear the disc spinning in the drive but when it gets to my desktop screen, it spins down and never can be accessed.
This is an important DVD disc with files on it I need.  can anyone help with this?

you need to take it somewhere to have a professional look at it if none of the following steps work
Force eject a stuck cd/dvd
First try the normal methods to remove the disc. Drag its icon to the Trash can in the Dock or select 'Eject' from the File menu.
If you are running a virtual machine, e.g. VMFusion, ensure that the CD is disconnected from the virtual machine. This will sometimes allow the CD to now show up in Mac OS X.
Shut down the computer and start up whilst holding down the mouse button. This may take some time, but keep your finger on the mouse button right up until the disc comes out or the log-in screen has appeared.
If you have Toast Titanium installed on your computer, choose EJECT DISC from the menubar.
Sometimes you can successfully use the eject disc button in iTunes even if the disc is not visible to the Finder
Open Disc utility and choose the disc you wish to eject in the left-hand pane, then click on the Eject button.
Some Macintoshes have a paperclip hole that you can insert a straightened paperclip into, manually triggering the eject mechanism.
Open Terminal and type "drutil tray eject" to eject the disc/tray, and "drutil tray close" to close the tray.
If your computer has an eject button on the keyboard, restart the computer holding down the Option key. When the startup disk selection screen appears, let go of the option key and press the keyboard's eject button.

  • Ejecting a CD/DVD issues, I've tried everything.

I put in a DVD I planned to watch last night, but when the disc went in, nothing showed up on my desktop. So I tried ejecting it several times with just the eject key on the keyboard. It didn't work. So I tried everything they listed, plus a few techniques like option-command-. that I saw on the boards here. Nothing has worked and I'm afraid I even tried the credit card/double sided tape manual redneck trick I saw someone say on here. It didn't work because I'm so afraid of ruining my drive forever.
Is there any way to get the freaking dvd out?
Best part is it's my brother's friend's movie... and I don't even care any more, I just want the dumb thing out of my baby.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Five ways to eject a stuck CD or DVD from the optical drive
Ejecting the stuck disc can usually be done in one of the following ways:
    1. Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the left mouse button until the disc ejects.
    2. Press the Eject button on your keyboard.
    3. Click on the Eject button in the menubar.
    4. Press COMMAND-E.
    5. If none of the above work try this:
Open the Terminal application in your Utilities folder. At the prompt enter or paste the following:
    /usr/bin/drutil eject.
If this fails then try this:
Boot the computer into single-user mode. At the prompt enter the same command as used above. To restart the computer enter "reboot" at the prompt without quotes.

  • Eject~NOT (3 days) cd/dvd stuck internal drive -HELP ME PLEASE

I have what was a blank CD that I burned my System Preferences onto and then tried eject. The CD is stuck in my internal CD/DVD area in my MacBookPro.  I am running OS X.5.  I have tried everything but the knife.  All keyboard tricks, held mouse button down at restart.  Beat my trackpad up hitting so hard on restart, command E, eject button, etc.  Opened every app possible and chose eject from there, ipod, realtime, the icon of the cd on the dock, in finder, in DISK UTILITY.  Then, I recently noticed that the "Disable Owner" box is checked in Sharing & Permisions when I go to Get Info (it is odd, since I am the only one who has access to my computer and nobody else could possibly have hacked in 'cause it's a mac, right? Ha!).  Cannot unlock the lock and can't get access to this finder window at all and change.  Added another admin ~ that ony logs ownership in as that user and still cannot chage privileges.   Tried using eject command in Terminal.  Didn't work either.   When I go to Disk Util, I have my main hardrive, then my journaled which is in Partition 3, then there's a cd icon that is HL-DT-ST DVDRW GWA408M Media in Partition 0:

Is that the problem as well?  How the **** did this happen?   I am going to rip my hair out of my head if someone cannot help me.  Thanks.
p.s. I do not have an external hardrive.  I am out of work and can't afford the expense right now.

Hey, nevermind.  Tried and true keep looking and you will find the answer.  The cd/dvd dev i have is from 2006, so internal no buttons, no pins.  For some reason, device has stopped reading DVD and CD's.  Worked the other day when it burned.  Turned machine off for 3 hours.  After turning back on, b4 logging in, hit the eject button.  Lo & behold, disk came out.

  • Mini handycam DVD stuck in drive

My son put a mini dvd into the drive and I am unclear as to how it can be ejected.

You can get it out easily using double-sided sticky tape. Just put it on a credit card and insert the card partially in the CD/DVD slot with the sticky tape facing downwards and press the eject key. Wait for the DVD drive to stop trying to eject the DVD and then just pull out the card and the DVD will come out stuck to it.

  • MacBook osx 10.6 won't boot and has DVD stuck in drive

I have an older MacBook running osx 10.6 and it recently became unable to boot up.  It gets stuck on a gray screen with a dark gray apple logo, a spinning icon and a progress bar which goes all the way up and disappears.
I have tried the following from this page: Mac OS X: Gray screen appears during startup
-safe boot verbose, it gets partway through and then black screens
-resetting NVRAM / PRAM, it seems to just be trying to boot and persists in the problem.
It has a DVD in the drive and I cannot eject it any way I try, there is no pinhole to force eject and the eject arrow or left mouse key don't do a thing, and as I can't boot into safe mode or any other way I don't know how to eject it, and because the DVD is in there I can't reinstall the OS.
Any ideas?  I do have an external USB dvd reader I could try attaching to it to install the OS anew but not sure that would work...
    thanks
    Tamar

OS X- Gray progress bar appears under Apple logo during startup
    If you need to reinstall:
Reinstall OS X without erasing the drive
    1. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    2. Reinstall Snow Leopard
If the drive is OK then quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed with reinstalling OS X.  Note that the Snow Leopard installer will not erase your drive or disturb your files.  After installing a fresh copy of OS X the installer will move your Home folder, third-party applications, support items, and network preferences into the newly installed system.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.

  • Mini DVD stuck in drive

My darling son, who never causes us any problems, has done it this time.
He inserted a mini DVD into the drive slot. It never booted, the machine doesn't recognize it has a disk in the slot, it can't be ejeted, there's no little paperclip hole, etc.
    Any ideas for removing this?
(My son appreciates a prompt reply so he can once again have dessert after dinner.)

If that doesn't work, you may have to try this trick:
    http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20080605013811670
If that doesn't work, you may have to get a compatible Firewire DVD drive from http://www.macsales.com/

    Hi, ben -
Boot or restart - immediately press the mouse button down, keep it held down until the disk ejects. That's a hardware-based command to the Mac to eject all removable media.

  • DVD stuck in drive, will not recognize anything is inside

I am currently traveling through Mexico and Central America. While in Mexico my friend bought a bootlegged dvd (i know, no bueno) and one night I attempted to watch it in my macbook. It spun and did the bad dvd thing for a while then it stopped spinning and I haven't been able to get it out for a week. My computer almost acts as if it doesn't have a cd drive anymore. I tried rebooting with the eject button held down and then with the mouse button held down. I typed various commands into terminal and finally it said, unmount failed for disk1, and unable to find disk for disk 1. The drive is making no noises anymore but I still can't get the cd out. In the system profiler under disc burning it says no disc burning device is found. Please help me I don't know what to do anymore.

Yes, i tried drutil eject, usr/bin/drutil eject, and a couple others, i also tried all the suggestions from the link that chamar sent (thank you), except the one with the cardboard, but the disc is no longer spinning.

  • Disc stuck in drive, tried every thing

This isn't a mechanical problem, I can hear the computer trying to read the disc.
When I restart the computer and hold the mouse button it just tries to read the disc for hours...
Even if I restart the computer and don't hold the mouse button, it just sits there, it doesn't even load OS X or display the folder with a question mark.
I'm short of time now, I'll post more details later...
    Any help is appreciated

OK I have more time now...
I tried to install Vista on my 2.0 Ghz Core Duo 2 Macbook, when I inserted the disc nothing out of the norm' happened. Every thing sounded completely normal.
When I reset the computer, it just hangs, trying to read the disc. I have even let it sit for hours.
Now It's stuck in the drive and the computer won't boot-up. It's not a mechanical problem, because I can hear the disc spinning and the laser moving, as if it's scanning the whole disc. I've tried every thing to get it out of the drive. Even holding down the mouse button, to removing the HDD and installing another OS on it from another computer. It seems to be simply ignoring me when I press the eject button.
Am I gonna have to take it apart or some thing?
'Cause I really don't wanna do that...
Oh and sorry for double posting.
I can't seem to find the edit button again...

  • DVD stuck in drive but drive opens on Satellite A notebook

    Hi,
I have a DVD that is stuck inside the drive even though the dvd drive door opens and closes normally. The DVD was put in the drive and the drive door closed but the DVD was never snapped/locked into place.
Any idea on how to remove it?
    All help will be appreciated.
    Steve

Sorry but I do not understand what you want. If you can open the DVD devices door open it and try to remove the DVD media. DVD media is fixed with three small plastic parts that can be removed back. If you cannot remove alone ask somewhere for help.
I do not know what to say here. For some concrete opinion I need to have the notebook in front of me to see how it looks like.

  • DVD stuck in drive and wont eject

There was a thread I read earlier with a similar problem only their solution was of no avail to me. Any other possible solutions. My dvd drive worked fine but now is all of a sudden not wanting to eject the dvd.
I tried holding the button on the track pad.
I tried holding down the mouse button.
What happens is that the DVD will try to eject but wont come out of the drive and ends up going back in on its own.

As well, I would also note that many disc drives have tiny hole in them that if you stick a pin or bent paperclip in, will manually open the drive.
Push with some force, but don't overdo it since it doesn't take much to manually eject the tray. If they tray opens you should then be able to open drive slowly to get the disc out.
You may want to try this while the machine is off as well so that no software gets confused about what is going on and tries to open/close the drive.

  • Tiger DVD stuck in Drive with Restart Message

I loaded Tiger in my G3 notebook several weeks ago and everything went fine. So I built up a little confidence that it would be okay to load it in my main machine. Wrong.
Tonight, I decided to load it in my G4 tower. Everything seemed to be going okay until it said it was checking the install DVD. Then I got a grayed screen and an alert telling me in several languages to restart the computer. I did that and the next time it didn't get quite as far into the process when it did the same thing. After doing this 4 or 5 times it just goes straight to the restart alert. I've tried restarting with the shift key held down--didn't work. Tried opening the DVD door and inserting paperclip in the hole to get it to release the DVD--didn't work.
Any ideas on how to get the DVD out or something else to get me out of this mess? The computer was acting fine using 10.3.9 before I started this act of madness...

Glad to hear you were able to eject the disk. As to the rest, here's my take:
    Rotro wrote:
One thing is the DVD for Tiger can only be used once unless it is from the family pack.
Wrong. The DVD can used over and over, without failure. However, Apple's licensing agreement has always stipulated that one copy, one machine, unless you buy the family pack which allows one copy, five machines.
The greedy mavens at Apple had never before forced a single user to buy multiple copies.
Also, wrong. How does Apple do that forcing? You can definitely break the licensing agreement and use a single installer on multiple machines; however, you'd be doing it illegally.
See the above and http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore?productLearnMore=MA1 90Z/A where it explicitly states: Choose a single user license for home or office. Got more than one Mac at home? Upgrade up to 5 Macs in your household for one low price with the Family Pack.
