DVD stuck in player

I put a dvd into my Macbook Pro but cannot get it out. The dvd icon doesn't show up on the desktop. It appears that nothing is in the player. I pressed the eject button on the keyboard but nothing happens. How can I get it out?

Is this a standard-sized DVD or one of the mini or odd-shaped disks? If one of those, they are incompatible with slot-loading optical drives and may need professional attention to remove.

How do you eject a dvd if its stuck in the drive? The eject button wont work. I hear it spinning
and keep trying eject and it just wont release it. Any tips?

    4 things you can do...
first, being the easiest: press the eject button firmly and hold for 1-3 seconds if that fails, go to step 2.
2: on your desktop, you should see a disk in the upper right corner named (lets pretend its a movie disk of "finding nemo" it will show a disk, and in the text it will say 'findingnemo' or something , just look for the dvd logo on your desktop, right/secondary click it (either with 2 fingers or control+click). then a menu will come up giving u options... the 2nd one down should say 'eject' click that. if that still doesn't work...
step 3: restart your computer, WHILE HOLDING DOWN the trackpad/trackpad button (depending on model)
and as a last resort, just take it in, they will run some programs, and if that doesn't work, they should and probably will open up the computer to extract the drive itself get the dvd out, and replace the drive (if they find it to be defective.)
    hope this helps

  • DVD stuck in disc drive

    Hi everybody,
I currently have a DVD stuck in my disc drive. I fell asleep yesterday night watching the DVD using the "DVD Player" application that is the default for playing a DVD. When I woke up, DVD Player wouldn't quit and I had to force quit the program. I didn't use the DVD Player for the rest of the day, but in the evening, I tried to reopen DVD Player to finish the DVD. It said: "There was an initialization error. A valid DVD drive could not be found. [-70012]" I tried to eject the disc by pressing the "eject" button on the keyboard, but that did absolutely nothing. Now the DVD is stuck in the drive, not showing up on my computer, and I am not able to eject it. What can I do to get it out?
    Thanks
    -Marsha

Apart from the fact that you would need to use the mouse button, rather than the MBP's trackpad button, no, it shouldn't make any difference. Try shutting down the Mac (rather than restarting), then booting it up again while holding down the primary mouse button.
Another trick is to start up Disk Utility and , if the disc is visible, eject it from there.
Sometimes, if the problem is actually due to the drive itself not being recognised as present, a "PRAM reset" will make it appear again.
On PowerPc Macs you can achieve the same result using "open firmware" commands, but unfortunately these don't work with the Intel models.
    Cheers

    Hi Minchroadster
Open Disk Utility and select the DVD's image in the left column, then go up and hit the blue eject button. If for some unknown reason the DVD's image is not shown in Disk Utility, restart your Mac holding the mouse button to eject the DVD.

Boot with the option key down.  You will see a window showing all the bootable systems.  Select the OSX boot and hit return.  Once you are booted into OSX, use the Startup Disk system preferences to change your default boot volume.

hey guys, so I have a DVD stuck in the CD drive on my mac. It reads it as being in there, but I cannot eject it and it is causing my a lot of issues with my mac. If i try to eject it, Finder acts up and I have issues saving projects or even browsing files. I feel like it interferes with iPhoto as well because it says it is locked and I have no rights to view it. I wanted to see if anyone else had/s this issue and how you fixed it before lugging it into the apple store and being without a computer for a few weeks...

  • I have a DVD stuck, drive is missing also.

    Hi There,
Not only have I managed to get a windows made DVD stuck in my internal drive, the drive icon is missing also. i did a brief search around to find ways of removing it,
    * press the eject key (duh)
    * hold down left mouse (track pad) and cycyle power (duh)
    * seems to me these won't work if lion doesn't acknowledge the drive lives eh?
Maybe I'm a PC after all.
It worked fine yesterday. Just put in this old D9 I had found and
At least if I try to put another disk in there it won't load, so I'm 99% ertain it's stuck.
    * also tried holding command  key + eject
    Bright ideas anyone?
    Advance thanks.

    Hi ormerlypcguy:
Sometimes the best solutions are the manual ones.  There is a mechanical fail safe built in to these devices,  I have had to use this method several times myself, so ....
    .....   Try this:
    1) Power off your mac pro.
    2) With your finger, pull down the metal bezel on the affected drive.
    3) You should now see the front plastic bezel on the affected drive, it is usually black or grey.
    4) Look for a small pinhole somewhere on the front. It will have a very small diameter, about 0.5mm.
    5) Yes it's there, all cd/dvd drives have one!   Note: a small flashlight comes in handy here.
    6) Straighten out a standard paperclip for about 2 -3 inches.
    7) Insert the paperclip in the small hole and push, you will have some resistance, and then the drive tray will slowly push out about 0.5 inches or more.
    8) Grab the tray and pull it out !!
    9) You are done!
    10) If you do this gently you won't hurt the drive. Boot up and the tray should automatically slide back in. You are good to go.
