DVD stuck in super drive

How can you force eject a DVD from the external MacBook Air Superdrive (from a MacBook Pro).

What have you tried?  You can eject by dragging the image of the DVD to the trash, Option-click or right click the image and select Eject, restart the machine while holding down the mouse or trackpad button.

    Hi
I have a dvd stuck in the drive and as I can not boot is there a way of removing the dvd ?

Boot with the option key down.  You will see a window showing all the bootable systems.  Select the OSX boot and hit return.  Once you are booted into OSX, use the Startup Disk system preferences to change your default boot volume.

  • DVD stuck in disc drive

    Hi everybody,
I currently have a DVD stuck in my disc drive. I fell asleep yesterday night watching the DVD using the "DVD Player" application that is the default for playing a DVD. When I woke up, DVD Player wouldn't quit and I had to force quit the program. I didn't use the DVD Player for the rest of the day, but in the evening, I tried to reopen DVD Player to finish the DVD. It said: "There was an initialization error. A valid DVD drive could not be found. [-70012]" I tried to eject the disc by pressing the "eject" button on the keyboard, but that did absolutely nothing. Now the DVD is stuck in the drive, not showing up on my computer, and I am not able to eject it. What can I do to get it out?
    Thanks
    -Marsha

Apart from the fact that you would need to use the mouse button, rather than the MBP's trackpad button, no, it shouldn't make any difference. Try shutting down the Mac (rather than restarting), then booting it up again while holding down the primary mouse button.
Another trick is to start up Disk Utility and , if the disc is visible, eject it from there.
Sometimes, if the problem is actually due to the drive itself not being recognised as present, a "PRAM reset" will make it appear again.
On PowerPc Macs you can achieve the same result using "open firmware" commands, but unfortunately these don't work with the Intel models.
    Cheers

  • Can I use a 3" DVD on my Super drive

can I use a 3" DVD on my Super drive

    NONONO!!!
It will not work, get stuck and you will have a hard time getting it out.

  • I have a DVD stuck in the drive, how can i get it out

how can i get a disc that is stuck in my drive out?

Restart. Hold down the mouse or trackpad button at the chime until the disc ejects. If that doesn't work, it's physically stuck.

  • DVD stuck in the drive, and the computer realises it is in there

I have had a look through previous posts about dvds being stuck, but there was nothing similar to what has happened to my MBP's drive.
The DVD that is inside it will not come out. When I press eject, it makes the sounds as if it is ejecting the DVD and the DVD logo displays from the desktop but it does not come out. The drive then thinks the DVD has been inserted and the logo reappears on the desktop. The computer realises there is a dvd in the drive and I can watch the movie, but I just can't get it out.
I have tried eject the button, going to file to eject, I have also rebooted and held down the eject button, but the dvd will not come out.
The computer is only 2 weeks old and nothing like this has happened before

From what I understand your operating system sends eject signal ok to the drive ..so trying to do it in another way is unlikely to help...there are many ways of doing it but at the end same message is transmitted to the drive and if it doesn't eject it it just won't
This sounds like a hardware problem ..try tilting your macbook pro sideways as if the cd is now pulled by gravity and try to eject ..or even upside down ..this will make the drive mechanism move ever so slightly inside and may cause it to release the disc
    hope this helps

  • Problem burning DVD DL using Super Drive - Help

I am using MacBook 13-inch Aluminum (Late 2008).
I tried my new set of DVD+R DLs from Imation. But SuperDrive couldn't detect the DVDs.
I checked my firmware version also, it is up-to-date.
I tried with 3 new DVDs, but was of no use.
But there is no problem reading dual-layer DVD movies.
But the Disc burning Info shows that my SuperDrive is capable of burning +R DL.
Could the problem be with the SuperDrive or the media.
    Need Help.
    Hardware Info:
    Boot ROM Version: MB51.007D.B03
    SMC Version (system): 1.32f8
    HL-DT-ST DVDRW GS21N: - Disc Burning Info.
    Firmware Revision: SA18
    Interconnect: ATAPI
Burn Support: Yes (Apple Shipping Drive)
    Cache: 2048 KB
    Reads DVD: Yes
    CD-Write: -R, -RW
    DVD-Write: -R, -R DL, -RW, +R, +R DL, +RW
    Write Strategies: CD-TAO, CD-SAO, CD-Raw, DVD-DAO

You might just try another brand - regarding DL media slot-in drives may be very picky.
Especially have an eye on that speed rating: try to choose blanks that are rated 4x max.

  • DVD stuck in mini drive running Leopard

I booted Intel C2D mini into Leopard, all looked good. Inserted FCE4 DVD which wasn't recognized on desktop or in disk utility or itunes, did not spin up and won't eject with keyboard or mouse down during reboot or removing all external drives. Computer continues to work with Safari, Time Machine and iTunes. DVD is not recognized and is doing nothing and won't eject. Did I say that already?

    I found this link
    http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/4363/ejectinga_stuck_cd_in_macosx.html
and the one that worked for me was holding down the C key as if the drive were looking for a boot disk. Out it came.

  • DVD Stuck in slot drive, doesn't show on desktop or in Disk Utility

I downloaded the 10.5.3 combo update on my Power Mac and burned a disk image of the file to a DVD to update my iMac which suffers from the Airport problem and is unable to successfully download anything before connection drops.
I successfully updated the iMac to 10.5.3 but upon restart, the DVD is still in the slot, and doesn't show on the desktop nor in DU.
I tried the eject button, but nothing. I tried restarting and holding down the mouse button, but no luck.
How do I get the disk out?

    Thanks for replying, xnav.
Unfortunately I have tried these with no luck. The disk does not show up in disk utility, it's like it doesn't even exist, yet it remains there in the drive making it impossible to insert any disk.
I don't know what to do at this point... take it to the shop I guess!

  • Cant get mini dvd out of super drive

My son put a mini dvd from our camera into the drive and it will not eject. Am I in trouble??
    IBook-G-4 Mac OS X (10.4.1)

    Hi Richard,
It could necessitate a trip to the repair shop.
If the eject mechanism moves at all, press the eject key while holding the iBook on its side with the slot facing down. Gently shake it and if you can see the edge of the disc, grab it with tweezers or needle-nose pliers and pull it out. You may need to use a business card (or 3x5 card) inserted into the slot to help guide the disc.

  • DVD stuck in Combo drive, OSX not locating eject device.

hello, I recently encountered a problem with my powerbook G4 combo Drive. It simply ejected discs autonomously, as many others on this forum has experienced. But then, after I tried resetting PRAM and all the other start-up eject-rituals recommended on the trouble-shooting page, I decided to try using my lens-cleaning CD. It has a little tiny brush, and because of the random nature of my problem, I thought it could be a dusty lens.
I threw it in, it whirled with a nasty tick-tick-tick sound, as if the brush was hitting something?! and I immediatly ejected it. I tried to insert a random DVD I had been watching quite recently (so I could be sure that the disc I used was ok), but it said the exact same sounds.. but only this time, it just Won't eject At all!
I went over all the above mentioned procedures on Apple's website, but when I'm in Firmware, and I'm prompted to write 'eject cd', it says : Firmware not able to locate eject device. And futhermore, OSX doesn't even list my Matsushita drive in the ATA-menu under Hardware profile.
If not some of you have a solution, I think I will have to go and pay the price of a new one at my local store.. but it's bitter money after 2 years of faithful service
    Thanks in advance!
