DVD stuck on boot

I was trying to eject a dvd disc inside superdrive, but it seems to stuck. You can see the dvd tile in finder is gray, looks like it's about to come out, but it takes forever. After a while, I decided to restart the MBP hoping to eject it upon booting. But the laptop stuck before the gray screen. Anybody has had the similar issue before?
Thanks

Try holding down the trackpad button at startup and see if it ejects then ?

    Hi
I have a dvd stuck in the drive and as I can not boot is there a way of removing the dvd ?

Boot with the option key down.  You will see a window showing all the bootable systems.  Select the OSX boot and hit return.  Once you are booted into OSX, use the Startup Disk system preferences to change your default boot volume.

  • G4 boot up problem - DVD stuck in machine

I've got a G4 800mhz powerbook. I was in the process of making an .img out of a DVD that
I had inserted in the machine. It was about 70% done when I started hearing screeching sounds
from the DVD inside the machine.
I tried to stop the .img process but nothing I hit on the keyboard would completely stop the process. However, at one point the screetching sound did stop as the process slowed. Finally I just held
down the power button to turn the machine off.
When I try to reboot now, it will only show me an alternating view of a FINDER icon and a ? mark.
And I can't eject the DVD that is still in the machine.
I tried holding down the T button while booting to see if I could get it into TARGET mode but
that didn't seem to work either. I've got another powerbook G4 that I'm using to write this.
Any suggestions on getting the DVD out and booting back up normally would be greatly appreciated.

Insert a Mac OS X install disk and use the Disk Utility to repair the internal drive; if the blinking question mark continues to appear, perform an Archive & Install, or if you have a complete backup and can't perform an Archive & Install, an Erase & Install.

  • DVD stuck in disc drive

    Hi everybody,
I currently have a DVD stuck in my disc drive. I fell asleep yesterday night watching the DVD using the "DVD Player" application that is the default for playing a DVD. When I woke up, DVD Player wouldn't quit and I had to force quit the program. I didn't use the DVD Player for the rest of the day, but in the evening, I tried to reopen DVD Player to finish the DVD. It said: "There was an initialization error. A valid DVD drive could not be found. [-70012]" I tried to eject the disc by pressing the "eject" button on the keyboard, but that did absolutely nothing. Now the DVD is stuck in the drive, not showing up on my computer, and I am not able to eject it. What can I do to get it out?
    Thanks
    -Marsha

Apart from the fact that you would need to use the mouse button, rather than the MBP's trackpad button, no, it shouldn't make any difference. Try shutting down the Mac (rather than restarting), then booting it up again while holding down the primary mouse button.
Another trick is to start up Disk Utility and , if the disc is visible, eject it from there.
Sometimes, if the problem is actually due to the drive itself not being recognised as present, a "PRAM reset" will make it appear again.
On PowerPc Macs you can achieve the same result using "open firmware" commands, but unfortunately these don't work with the Intel models.
    Cheers

There is a DVD stuck in my drive on my iMac, the computer doesn't recognize it. How do I get it out?  I was trying to burn some photos onto it. Some error camer up, and then I coudn't get it out.

Hello, try holding the Mouse button down while booting up.

  • Stuck while booting in single user mode. How to go back?

Guys. I'd appreciate your advice very much - this concerns my main system.
MacBook 3,1 with OSX 10.5.? (latest)
Did: activate single user boot in Onyx; reboot
Problem: stuck at boot (apple logo & spinning wheel  on gray background for 2hours+). Persistent across reboots.
No different results for this key combinations: cmd-opt-p-r, power button for 5 sec whilst without battery/cable, cmd-s, C (possibly not recognized due to firmware password) Power button held down from switch-on moment makes the light flash a few times, produces a beep but no improvement.
Interestingly pressing alt lets me choose the os (HD or Leopard install disc) but gets stuck the same way regardless. It boots into Ubuntu tho.
I have a TIme Machine disk that I can restore from, and can read from the internal Leopard HD while in Ubuntu.
So, please: how do I get it to boot? I'd set the nvram bootargs="" but from where...

Sorry, don't know how you'd recover from the apparent limbo you're in, but this would agree with the explanation you already hit upon.

  • I have a DVD stuck, drive is missing also.

    Hi There,
Not only have I managed to get a windows made DVD stuck in my internal drive, the drive icon is missing also. i did a brief search around to find ways of removing it,
    * press the eject key (duh)
    * hold down left mouse (track pad) and cycyle power (duh)
    * seems to me these won't work if lion doesn't acknowledge the drive lives eh?
Maybe I'm a PC after all.
It worked fine yesterday. Just put in this old D9 I had found and
At least if I try to put another disk in there it won't load, so I'm 99% ertain it's stuck.
    * also tried holding command  key + eject
    Bright ideas anyone?
    Advance thanks.

    Hi ormerlypcguy:
Sometimes the best solutions are the manual ones.  There is a mechanical fail safe built in to these devices,  I have had to use this method several times myself, so ....
    .....   Try this:
    1) Power off your mac pro.
    2) With your finger, pull down the metal bezel on the affected drive.
    3) You should now see the front plastic bezel on the affected drive, it is usually black or grey.
    4) Look for a small pinhole somewhere on the front. It will have a very small diameter, about 0.5mm.
    5) Yes it's there, all cd/dvd drives have one!   Note: a small flashlight comes in handy here.
    6) Straighten out a standard paperclip for about 2 -3 inches.
    7) Insert the paperclip in the small hole and push, you will have some resistance, and then the drive tray will slowly push out about 0.5 inches or more.
    8) Grab the tray and pull it out !!
    9) You are done!
    10) If you do this gently you won't hurt the drive. Boot up and the tray should automatically slide back in. You are good to go.

  • Can I use USB external DVD Drive to boot up my G4?

My G4 (PCI Graphics) internal drive DVD-ROM is not working, its dead. I want to replace it with an External USB or Firewire Lacie DVD Drive.
According to Apple document http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=58606, my computer cant boot up from Firewire devices. I think that means, I wont be able reinstall my Mac OS or install future systems or start my DiskWarrior from the CD. Using a external Firewire DVD Drive. Let me know if I am wrong?
Can I use a USB external DVD Drive to boot up?
    G4 (PCI Graphics) 400 mhz, 488Mb Memory, 50GB, 9.2.2 & 10.3.9. USB 1.0 & Firewire 400 Ports
    G4 (PCI Graphics)   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

    Hi, Harold -
Bad news - your G4 (PCI) model can not boot to either a firewire drive nor to a USB drive.
Although the G4 (PCI) models do have native firewire, they (and their cousins the B&W G3) are specifically exempted from firewire booting; there is no workaround for this -
    Article #58606 - FireWire Booting
Relatedly, a G4 (PCI) machine can be the Host machine in a Firewire Target Disk Mode setup, but can not be the Target machine.
Article #58583 - Firewire Target Disk Mode
USB booting was introduced first on the G4 (AGP) model, and is not available on earlier Mac models -
Article #58430 - USB Info and Benefits of Dual-Channel USB
The only external drive your G4 (PCI) can be booted to is a SCSI drive - but that requires that the machine have an appropriate SCSI PCI card installed.
Replacing the internal optical drive might be the best choice, particularly for ease of maintenance and OS installing in the future.

  • Satellite A105-S3611 Recovery DVD won't boot - reverts to HDD boot

Satellite A105-S3611 Recovery DVD won't boot - reverts to HDD boot.
My laptop has had a virus but is now clean but has some lingering effects.  So I decided to use the Recovery and Applications/Drivers Media to reinstall the system to factory settings.  Pressing the "C" key at the Toshiba screen did not work to choose the boot divice but pressing F12 did work.  The problem is the system still boots using the hard disk.  I've gone into the boot process and changed the order of boot devices to make sure the CD\DVD drive is chosen first but it does not boot from the CD/DVD.  It looks like it begins to read the DVD but the boot process is not executed from there.
    Questions:
    1. Can I install the system using windows explorer to execute the autorun.ini on the CD/DVD?
    2. Is there another option for getting the system to install from the CD/DVD?
    Thank you in advance
    Roger

I read somewhere on the forum that updating the BIOS may solve the problem.  So I updated the system BIOS from v1.40 to v2.0.  Then I reinserted the newly purchased recovery DVD and the boot process began with the DVD booting but ended with the message "WRONG MACHINE".
I ejected the recovery DVD that I just purchased and inserted the recovery DVD that came with the machine.  This time the machine booted and installed the factory image of the operating system as it should have the first time.
So I am now recovered and the machine works as it did originally.  So the moral of the story is you don't necessarily have to buy the new recovery DVD but just update the system BIOS and then try to use the recovery DVD that came with your machine.

    Hello @Vikas_Kumawat80,
Welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience!
I understand that you are looking to enable Virtualization on your notebook computer, and I would be happy to be of assistance!
While I do not have any experience with Virtualization, I do recommend taking a look at this resource on How to Enable and Use Client Hyper-V, as well as Run virtual machines on Windows 8.1 with Client Hyper‑V. I am not certain if this processor has hardware virtualization support, it appears that Windows 8.1 pro and enterprise may have built in capabilities.
If you require further assistance on this, you might have to contact Microsoft on the topic.
    I hope this helps!

    Hi Minchroadster
Open Disk Utility and select the DVD's image in the left column, then go up and hit the blue eject button. If for some unknown reason the DVD's image is not shown in Disk Utility, restart your Mac holding the mouse button to eject the DVD.
