DVD Studio burns a DVD that plays perfect on Mac but crops the edges on a DVD player

Has anyone ever come across this problem I have, where I burn a Quicktime movie from FCP (using Apple ProRes 422) and put it through Compressor - and when it plays on the laptop it looks perfect, but when I play it on my home DVD players, it crops the edges off? Like it's zoomed? I've checked the aspect ratio on the file and in DVD Studio and on my television setting, they're all correct at 16:9.
I'm going mad, had all sorts of help with this but can't find a solution! If anyone could help, I'd be extremely grateful.

What you are experiencing is "overscan" and is a function of TV displays.
Computers also have overscan but since you can dynamically resize to fit the display area, you don't tend to see it.
The concept of the "safe area" was put forward as a way to make sure that the important elements of your program do not get cut off on the sides. As David noted, TV makes/models have varying amounts of overscan (there is no standard) so to be conservative, the settings are around 10% of the total image.

I have a .mov file that plays on my mac but when someone tries to play it on a pc, they get an error 128 message. Help! Please!

This is not the problem. We are using quicktime on the pc's and the mac. I also tried to open the file on the pc with other programs and it doesn't recognize the file. The file opens fine on my mac but I cannot save it as a new file. It says that "the end of the file was reached." The recording was made in iShowU then edited in Quicktime Pro.

  • Streaming movie plays perfectly on MAC but not on PC, why?

I have created a streaming movie and put it online. I have installed the latest version of Quicktimne for PC. The movie streams and plays perfectly on my Mac however it does not stream on my PC. It plays on the PC when it has fully downloaded (in the browser using quicktime) but the sound quality is poor - I can hear lots of cackles.
Can anyone help with this please?
    Thanks

In addition to Neds suggestions, empty the Safari cache (which should be empty after a clean install).
Goto the Safari Get Info screen (in Finder or in Dock if you have Safari there), click the triangle on languages, and disable those you don't use.
My Safari response time was significantly slowed after the 10.4.5 update, and using the combo updater took care of that. The 10.4.6 combo update is located here.

  • DVD plays on earlier macs but not on mine

I have a mac from 2009. I want to play a dvd that plays on earlier macs but my dvd player won't even recognise that there is a dvd. It whirrs a bit and then spits it out. Please help.
    Thanks,

    Hi Tamara,
    I have a macbook
The forums for the Macbooks having a black or a white plastic case are here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/category.jspa?categoryID=248
If you Macbook has an aluminum case, post here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/category.jspa?categoryID=249
If there are specific or recurring issues with MacBook DVD drives, it should show up in one of those forums.
If you want help figuring out exactly which Mac variant you have, do "About this Mac..." from the Apple menu at the left end of the menubar, then click on "More Info..." in the resulting window. If you copy and paste the results in the "Hardware Overview" into a post--EXCEPT for the serial number--people here can translate the info and make sure you find the proper forum for your Mac. For example, that info for my old PowerMac I like to use is:
    Hardware Overview:
    Machine Name: Power Mac G4
    Machine Model: PowerMac3,6
    CPU Type: PowerPC G4 (3.3)
    Number Of CPUs: 1
    CPU Speed: 1.25 GHz
L2 Cache (per CPU): 256 KB
L3 Cache (per CPU): 1 MB
    Memory: 1.75 GB
    Bus Speed: 167 MHz
    Boot ROM Version: 4.4.8f2
    Serial Number: <removed>
Although yours won't have exactly the same info, this shows the format you are seeking. Note how I deleted the serial number. This type of info gets you help faster because it avoids a lot of "back-and-forth" posts trying to figure out machine-specific details.

My project plays on any Mac but not on my dvd player.  Please advise.

Unfortunately that didn't do the trick.  For the life of me I can't figure this one out.  However, if I author it using iDVD (with the same media) it works?  I'd make do with IDVD if I could get rid of the Apple logo in the lower right corner.

Here is what worked for me:
My usb hub, being usb2, was too fast. I moved the wire to a usb port directory on my pc. That is a usb1 port which is slow enough to run your snyc.

  • Audio plays perfectly in Viewer, but is slow/garbled in Timeline

I am using FCE 3.5.1 on Powerbook G4 running 10.4.9. My setup for this video is HDV 1080i60. I have a audio track from Digital Juice in both mp3 and aiff. When I double click on file to listen to it in the viewer it plays perfectly. When I drop the clip into the Timeline, the clips plays slower and is garbled. This is the only file in the program and Timeline at this point.
I just recently upgraded from FCE 2 to current and this is my first video with the upgrade. I am on a time crunch and need this resolved. Thanks.

Ok, I have established that this is a playback issue with the Timeline. I used Audio Hijack to record what was being played from FCE through the Viewer and Timeline, both came out perfect, even though what I heard from the Timeline was garbled. So I went ahead and exported just the audio of the track, and it was perfect. This leads me to beleive that the issue is just playback of the Timeline. Any thoughts?

Are the ones from the CD's on iTunes? You may just have to sync them over to the phone.

Could be a defective SIM.  Try a new one from your carrier.

  • Can I play sound through IPad but watch the video through TV ?

I want to play sound through IPad but watch the video through TV  using Apple TV
    Is that possible ?

On my mac through itunes, I am able to control Apple TV sound through a master and two sub master volumes.
One being my Apple TV volume (HDTV) , and the other being my mac (internal speakers).
That being said, it might be possible to on iPAD through itunes (music).

  • When using 'sponge' effect on a fill, how do I get rid of the white 'pixellations' (if that is what they are called around the edges of the fill?

When using 'sponge' effect on a fill, how do I get rid of the white 'pixellations' (if that is what they are called around the edges of the fill?

I tried to give you this solution before, but maybe you missed it. This simple procedure will mask out all the various sponge edge-artifacts. Here it is in simple steps:
    1. Make the path shape you want to apply the sponge effect to.
    2. Highlight that path, and select Object > Path > Offset path ... choose +2 points (or whatever works for your drawing scale, to ultimately eliminate the outside line and the artifacts) -- this will make a slightly larger shape, based on the original shape.
    3. Cut the outside path (command or alt-X), select the inside path, and paste the outer path BEHIND the inner path (command or alt-B).
    4. Apply the sponge effect to the OUTER path.
    5. Highlight BOTH paths, and create a MASK (command or alt-7).
Now you have your original shape, with sponge applied, and the outer 2 points (or whatever your Offset Path was set to), are masked out, masking out the outside line and the sponge artifacts.
This works with any Document Raster Effect Settings dpi.

  • Burned DVD on DVD Studio Pro, not able to play n PC

The DVD has been completed and burned. It works on he Mac but when I would like to play it on a PC nothing happens (Power DVD). It is as if the DVD is empty.
I am totally at a loss of possibilites as how to change this. I burned 3 DVDs (including an .img) but it did not help. I did see that someone mentioned that if you have an AUDIO_TS and HVDVD_TS this might be problematic. Could you please help me how to proceed?

Open up DVD SP. Go to your Preferences. Change it from HD to SD. Then you will have to re-create your project from scratch.
