DVD STUDIO ERROR - BITRATE TOO HIGH? HELP

I am trying to burn a DVD (about an hour) that I imported as a Quicktime movie (edited in FCP) and I made a Menu, and everything looks fine. When I try to Build/Format, I get almost all the way done, when I get an message of "Video Birtare Too High"
I've tried lowering my bitrate a couple of times, and still same problem. What should I do? (I've lowered it to a total of 8 for each video clip - 2 total)

http://dvdstepbystep.com/faqs_3.php
DVD Specs have a max rate of 10.08 Mbps, though some players will stutter or have playback issues when reaching close to the limit. All video, audio, and subtitles count to the max rate. The max rate for the video is 9.8 Mbps, again some players have issues when approaching the max rate. These max rates will also cause video bitrate too high (so if you have these things on one track can also cause an issue)

  • "Video Bitrate too high" message - DVD Studio Pro

I have been using the workflow of; video from FCP, through Compressor (best 60 minutes & Dolby Audio) and then on to the build & burn format in DVD Studio Pro and a final burn through Disk Utility for about two years with flawless success.
4 days ago I got the following "failed" message in the build & burn process in DVD SP: "Video Bitrate too high."
I have been trying to solve this problem with these solutions:
I threw away my DVD SP .plist file(s), exported new video from Compressor at a lower bit rate, Followed all the suggestions on the DVD SP troubleshooting basics web page, checked the discussions on this topic and followed some suggestions, uninstalled and reinstalled the whole FCP Studio, deleted files so my hard drive has more space, to no avail... I still get the message.
I have tried everything and can't imagine what else I can do. Would really appreciate if anyone has any suggestions.

Try deleting the MPEG and PAR files that were made and/or create a newly named M2v after re-encoding, could be something in those were corrupted. If you dropped in Dolby audio and using the preset without having changed it, it should work, but something can be glitchy. Also a chance there is a spike somewhere in the encoding...

  • DVD Studio log says "Bitrate too high"

DVD Studio log says "Bitrate too high" and cancels burn process. Do the videos need to be re-exported, or can DVDSP be told to accept a higher bitrate? This is the first time I've used an external burner, so I'm thinking it's probably this, but then why does it only say Bitrate Too High in DVDSP, and not something more specific to the burner?
    Any thoughts?

It sounds like you are encoding the video through DVD Studio pro, when doing this its possible to go over the DVD Spec bit rate (9Mbps). Go to your DVD Studio Pro preferences and in the encoding tab lower the bit rate.
Depending on the length of your project you may need to lower both the average and max bitrate.
For something under 90 min the attached image has settings you can use.
For better quality you may want to change the Mode from one pass to 2 pass VBR but remember this will take longer. Ideally doing all this in compressor will usually yeld better results because it has the ability to use frame controls and so on.
    Hope this helps.

  • Help. trying to burn a dvd from fcpx. says bitrate too high

I'm using fcpx for a montage with effects like generators etc...not sure if this is why it says bitrate too high. I want to burn a dvd and it stops at 66% saying bitrate too high. I've seen an answer from 2011....wondering if anyone has anything new? My computer is Mac book pro 15 inch, latest software. I went to compressor but the final product doesn't allow me to put in a title and i'm worried about final quality. Thanks for any help

I would say usually it's about the same. If the settings are adjusted properly, it can sometimes improve the results; conversely, there's always the potential to get terrible results if the settings are wrong. (FCP X Share kind of takes that risk out of the process.)
Where the software can often add value is when you have long videos that you're trying to fit on a disk. Or trying to compress certain HD material with complex scenes. Or sometimes, you'll run into players that choke on a DVD and the adjustments in Compressor give you a chance to adjust the bit rate to a level that widens the disk's playability. And there are audio and video effects that can be added in Compressor without re-editing in FCP.
BTW, I don't believe you've yet told us how long your project is.

  • "Video Bitrate Too High" error on build, but i KNOW it's not too high.

i keep getting the error "Video Bitrate Too High" when i try to build a DVD. i think its a bogus error, because A) i've successfully built a DVD with the media that it claims is too high a bitrate, and B) the media was ripped from an existing DVD and is already in .m2v and .ac3 format (with some titlecards that i added in DVD studio pro to the timeline). it shouldn't be recompressing it at all.
any thoughts? when i took out the offending track, it just gave me the same error on another track.
    thanks much for any help!
    dav.

thanks for the tips! can you provide me with some more info?
    1) how do i demux with another program? which program?
    2) how can i cut the last ibbp frame-group?
its very strange. if i create a new project and try to build it from there, it works. but if i import it into my main project, it gives me the error. any thoughts? is there a setting that i can change that controls the allowable bitrate?
    thanks again.

  • Stereo audio causes "Video Bitrate too High" error

    SOS, Whizzkids.
I try to make a build of a DVD with 1 menu and 3 tracks. , and I get an error message "Video Bitrate Too High." I check the compression setting and they're set to factory default for SD 4by3. (4 and 7 MB).
Get this: I delete one channel of audio from each of the 3 tracks and it compiles perfectly.
I duplicate audio channel 1 by option-dragging to channel 2 for one track, recompile and get the same error.
    I give in. Wassup?
    Any help gratefully received.

Did you convert your audio to AC-3 (Dolby Digital)?
If not, this is the likely cause of your problem. Run your audio through A.Pack (if using DVDSP 3 or earlier) or Compressor 2 (if using DVDSP 4). The "Dolby 2.0" presets in Compressor 2 are the Dolby Digital, but it's recommended to change the following settings and make a new preset.
Set dialog normalization to -31 and the Compression Preset to "None". They default to -27 and "Film Standard", respectively.

  • Help! RE: Bitrate Too High!!

I'm still using DVD StudioPro 2. I've imported the ".m2v" and ".aif" files generated from iMovie2 and Quicktime. I used a 2 pass variable option.
After loading both files into DVD/SP2, when I try to simply "build" the file, it goes 20%, then gives me the error message, "Video Bitrate Too High." I've gone back into preferences and changed many times, even trying a one pass, with '5' as the highest rate, but still get the same error message.
The DVD project is a 10 minute promo for a company...no menus, just auto play. I can't problem solve why it's doing this.
    Help?
    Matthew

    Matthew,
Keep in mind that you need to include the AIF bitrate into your calculations. If you encoded your video using a variable bitrate (regardless of single or dual pass) and it peeks at anything over 8.2, you'll exceed the maximum bitrate of 9.8 (given that AIF stereo files are typically 1.536Mb/s).
One way to try correcting this is by encoding your AIF files into Dolby Digital or DTS.
Some of the info I wrote up in my FAQ-O-Matic may help...

  • "Video Bitrate too High" error when i build/format

Help! Ive reduced my bitrate to 2mbps for a 2 hour dvd project, and I still get a "bitrate too high error" when I try to burn. Even if i try to create an image and burn with toast, I still get the same error. I've also tried burning with a dual layer dvd and still no luck. Any help would be much appreciated.

    iami
Are you encoding inside DVDSP? Then the cause of the error most probably is related with your audio. DVDSP use uncompressed audio (AIFF) what takes a lot of the available total bitrate. Use Compressor to encode your video & audio as follow:
For 2hs of video you must be fine using the standard *120 min* MPEG2 preset AND the Dolby2 (AC3) audio preset. Ue those files in the DVDSP project and try to build again.
    Hope that helps !

  • Timeline bitrate too high error

    Hi folks,
I am new here, so hopefully I am asking in the right place.  I am new to Encore, and trying to understand this error, as it makes no sense to me.  I have a .m2v video file that is 4:30 long.  720x480.  29.97 fps. 180MB.  It plays for me at decent quality on my computer.  When I open the file in Bitrate Viewer, I see an average bitrate of 5499 kbps with a peak of 5810 kbps.
I have that video on a timeline in Encore, and three audio tracks that the viewer can choose from.
The audio files are .ac3 using Digital Dolby only at 192kbps.  When I go to build the DVD, I see a "timeline bitrate too high" for that timeline if I try and build in Encore...  What the heck am I missing?

    mbirame wrote:
Yes, I am certain.  I first tried this with PCM (.wav) files as the math still seemed like it would go lower than 9.6 Mbps.  I then tried with the 192's.
3 PCM files would indeed have tripped the error.
I wonder if Encore is still thinking there are PCM audio streams instead of DD?
Can you please try killing the project & starting over with just the AC3?
Alternatively it may help to delete all cache files as it is quite possible the PCM are still the referred files here

  • Video Bitrate Too High-DVD

I have edited many videos and burned the DVDs in FCX 10.1.3 without any problem until now with the dreaded warning message: "Video bitrate too high." The video is around 1 hour and 8 min. I had no problem with other videos as long as this one for sharing with the DVD. I have looked for help in Google by using this warning message. Most of the messages are related to older version of FCX. I have tried to use Compressor 4 without success. Now, I can't find any solutions from them due to the different features in the current FCX. How do I fix it? Is there anyway I can reduce the video bitrate by tweaking the software? Any suggestions? Your help will be much appreciated.

C4 is Compressor? Do you have 4.1 or later or still in version 4.
Duplicate the MPEG-2 preset and in the video tab adjust the maximum and average bit rate. See if this helps you get started working with the application

  • Urgent help! VIDEO BITRATE TOO HIGH

i have prepared a very simple project - 1 menu and 1 track - and when i try to burn or build and format the build is cancelled and the error message reads VIDEO BITRATE TOO HIGH. What am I doing wrong? Last week I successfully made a much more complicated DVD and havent changed any of the settings...

Figure out the rates for your video and audio here
    http://dvd-hq.info/Calculator.html & http://www.videohelp.com/calc.htm
to try to find what bitrate works for encoding, then encode outside DVD SP. (Make new ones with files with distinct new names. Merely changing the settings insdie of DVD SP will not work except for new projects, this way is quicker.)
Remember to A.Pack your audio also.
Even if the settings worked last time, if you exceeded the rate for DVDs (and encoding can have spikes in it) this problem can still occur. If you were importing movies straight into DVD SP without A.Pack/Dolby, ths increases the chance of problems.
Usually A.Pack/Dolby of the audio will cure many issues assuming the settings for the video are not excessive.

  • Video bitrate too high... Okay now what?

    Hello,
As usual, when I try to build my DVD in DVD Studio Pro I get the error 'video bitrate too high'.
I checked it out on the net, and I get what the error message means. I wanna ask you guys what I should do next. Apparently I should reduce the bitrate, by how much? Should I recompress the m2vs I have in Compressor then put them back in Studio Pro, or can Studio Pro reduce the bitrate internally?
Thanks a lot a lot!! Please help!
    Kenji

One of the least understood issues, bitrates. Among the more common misunderstood causes is the total bitrate includes audio processing and, because the DVD spec is so old and primitive, your total bitrate must never exceed the top end; there is no headroom for transient peaks so you could have a single frame that spikes and this can terminate the encode.
You must use a less intensive audio file structure, that's AC3, I think.

  • HD DVD (Muxer Bit Rate Too High) - Cannot Burn

I am trying to burn an HD DVD and have used the Compressor preset MPEG-2 setting. I have a Toshiba HD-A2 player and have already tried the .h264 and it didn't work (I know it is not supported). The file actually played though, just very slowly.
Anyway, I read up that the MPEG-2 works with the Toshibas, and have encoded the file into DVD-Studio Pro 4. It plays inside of the program fine under simulation, but when ever I try to either build or burn the disc, I get this:

The error is in regards to the Muxer Bitrate. Any help? Thanks in advance.

Means the combination of video/audio stream is too high - did you encode outside of DVD SP using Compressor? You may want to try that (make a new HD MPEG setting) and knock the rates down.
Also FWIW, trying to get it to run on the Toshiba may be difficult at best - take a look for Toshiba HD and there seems to be issues with the newer versions of the firmware

  • Video Bitrate Too High...Wha?!?! NO!!

hello. i just spent 24 hours compressing (with compressor, from fcp) a bunch of projects of various length with various bitrates. when i tried to burn them with dvd studio pro, they all said "video bitrate too high." now, some of the projects had a video bitrate of 7.2, while others were 3.5...and they all said "video bitrate too high." what's up with that! i was using aiff audio...is there a chance that the problem was caused by that? right now, i'm re-compressing everything with ac3 as the audio format. in another 24 hours, i'll know if it worked.
    can someone help me?!?!?!

well a maximum bit rate of 8.8 with 1.5 of AIFF file, gives us a 10.3 bitrate, unfortunetly DVD maximum bit rate is 9.8, so here you go, you are well out of spec, use a 224kbs on the AC-3 encode for the audio with a dialogue normalization of -31, and a maximum of 8.5 bitrate on your video compression and you should be a happy man next time!!!!!
    good luck,
    PJ

Does this mean the first film in the Play All track needs to be adjusted? Or that they all need to be adjusted? And adjusted to what? They fit on the disc in terms of space. Please help!

This is a project that I already had burned to DVD with no problems whatsoever, but I recently moved from OSX 10.4 to OSX 10.5 and also moved from DVDSP 3 to DVDSP 4 and there my problem began. At the moment I have 768mb of RAM and I'm aware that DVDSP 4 is asking me for at least 1gb to work properly. Would the RAM be the problem?.
I hope you can help me out.
    Thanx.
    Omar
