DVD Studio, Motion... in FCP 6 won't get installed...

Hi all - I just recentley, now I see stupidely, deleted Motion and DVD Studio from my FCP6 suite. Now, I am trying to re-install it using the DVDs I have, but my Mac won't start the install, it just kicks it out. I tried other DVDs, like one of my movies, and it played it alright. So it is not the DVD drive. The same goes for any other DVD such as Motion or even the initial installation disk.
I am using the old MacBook Pro, I think I bought at the time FCP6 came out. I read someplace that I should re-install the whole Studio 2, but I do not dare since my Mac won't take any of the Suite's dvds. Can anyone help? I would be grateful since QuickTime Conversion gives me only the large file and I need to make them smaller (I tried using iMovie, but when I do this, audio and video get out of sync. So, I really need DVD studio).
Thanks in advance, truly!

but if the new FCP will read my old files, I would do that in a heart-beat. Thoughts?
Check out 7toX. However…
Unless you are an extraordinarily fast learner, or have already logged a lot of FCPX mileage, I would not recommend you switch to FCPX while trying to meet a deadline. The two apps have virtually nothing in common. Furthermore, X has little in common with other pro apps.  "The hassle" you are trying to avoid will be replaced by a bigger hassle.
Just my 2¢.

  • DVD Studio Pro 4.2.1 won't recognize my Aperture library!

Not sure why but DVD SP can't see my Aperture library. I can see iPhoto OK but I use Aperture exclusively. Any reasons for this, as I thought Aperture was one of Apples Pro applications and it seems ridiculous that DVDSP, being a Pro application itself, can't communicate with another Pro app.
    Many thanks

Thanks Shawn, I suppose I'll have to wait for an update from Apple then.....I won't hold my breath!
It amazes me that they didn't test the software with Aperture before releasing.

  • DVD Studio Pro 4.0.2 won't burn my DVDs that I have always used

I am trying to burn a DVD in DVDSP 4.0.2 and it comes up with errors around the media being mismatched or incorrect, etc...  It is the same media I have always used with great success (I bought a lot of blank media).  It seems as though ever since I updated my OS to Leopard I have had issues with this same media... coming up with these errors. Would a newer OS make the media suddenly not work in the same DVD drive? Not sure what else it could be...
    Any thoughts?
Thanks for your help in advance

It may be worth getting the lend of an external drive to eliminate your hardware .. can you write DVD's data with any other software such as Toast or even using the OS to backup data to a DVD drive. How old are the blanks ..I once had a faulty batch of 100 a while back and it turned out they had been in the store for two years ..With that in mind try a new one not out of that batch .. All of this may be of no help but it is typical of the things I would try to attempt to narrow the field of suspects down a bit.

  • DVD Studio pro won't open

Just upgraded to Leopard and my DVD Studio Pro 3 and compressor won't open. It starts to open and then shuts down. I have repaired permissions, deleted preferences, and re-installed the programs. Everything else at the moment seems to run fine. Any suggestions?

You're not alone. Last week my DVD Studio Pro, which I use all the time, worked perfectly. Then over the weekend I upgraded from 10.3 to 10.5.1 and I can't load it at all. I get the logo box, then it seems like it just hangs. This happens no matter how I try to open a file or launch the program.
The only other program I know I'm having problems with is iDVD, which I turned to in desperation after DVDSP stopped working. Unfortunately, iDVD crashes every time I launch it. I'm an editor, not a computer programmer, so I'm afraid I'm in real trouble here.
I wish I hadn't upgraded. Everything was great until I went to Leopard. This is the first major problem I've had since I switched from PCs to the Mac platform 5 years ago. Hopefully a fix will be as easy as the rest of my Apple experience has been, but I'm extremely frustrated and desperate right now. PLEASE HELP!

  • DVD studio basic questions...

    HI!
I have mostly used FCP to make web videos, so making a DVD is new for me. I used iDVD in the past for family videos, but that's about it.
    Some basic questions...
    1) Does DVD Studio work from different FCP files? Meaning, can I create all the "chapter sections" in my dvd in different FCP files? Is that the best way to do it? Or does it all have to be done in one FCP file with some sort of chapter marker system?
    2) Does DVD Studio read from FCP direct or from exported .dv files?
    3) Do I have a choice of using FCP or exported .dv files?
I ask these so I know the right way to approach my FCP project.
Also, if it can use .dv files, then I can outsource the authoring of making the DVD to someone else to save me some time. This is harder to do with the FCP files.
    FINALLY...
    4) When I used iDVD in the past and dvds I buy in the store, all I could get was about 1 hour on a dvd.
With DVD studio, how can you make a longer DVD that can fit more than 1 hour, as I am making a professional product for duplication.
Thanks sooooooooo much for your wisdom..... john

    Hi John - in response:
    1) yes, it can certainly do so. However, you can also use a single timeline in FCP, set chapter markers and add the DVDSP meta data (click 'm' twice in the FCP timeline to get the chapter marker window, and add the data there). You might also add the markers when in DVDSP - all fairly easy to do. I often use lots of different FCP clips to make a single track in DVDSP - you have to think of a DVDSP timeline very differently to a FCP one... in DVDSP the timeline can hold completely different films and you use chapter markers to help delineate it all. You only need to use a new track in DVDSP if it helps with the overall structure for the disc, or if you've used 99 chapter markers in the first one already.
    2) yes, it can. Using a FCP reference file is possible, as is using an exported .dv file. The difference is a matter of preference, largely. I tend to export out of FCP as a QT self-contained file, encode it using compressor to be mpeg2, and then import into DVDSP. You can, of course, go from FCP directly to compressor without making the QT file. The output from compressor is what you are after for DVDSP - you can use QT or .dv files right into DVDSP, but they get compressed to MPEG2 as the disc is built. The encoder in DVDSP is not a particularly refined tool, and Compressor will give you so many more options, including encoding the audio to AC3 (dolby digital) which is a very important thing to do!
    3) yes again... see above? You can't use the FCP project files, you certainly can use other file types, but you really ought to use MPEG2 files from Compressor. You'll get a better looking result.
    4) yes... this all comes down to the way the footage is encoded (I'm labouring the point, but Compressor is your friend here again). There are lots of ways you can squeeze more onto a standard 4.37Gb disc - it is easy to get 2 hours on if you know what you are doing. This could be an entire thread of it's own, but the basics are that you need to use Dolby Digital audio (AC3) which has a tiny file size but a decent audio sound. This leaves you with more space on your disc for the video. The more you compress the video (use lower bitrates like 3Mbps) the smaller the file will be, and therefore the more footage you can fit onto the disc.
The problem is that lower bitrates can result in lower quality. This is especially true if your footage includes pans, zooms, shimmering water, leaves on trees, fades and so on. You tend to get blocky areas that look poor. Higher bitrates certainly help, but you get larger file sizes and thus can fit less on the disc... it's always a trade off between file size and quality. With iDVD the encoding decisions are taken for you, and you can't control it, but it fortunately does a pretty decent job.
There is no set or enciding rules that will work for every piece of video you have got, however you can go a long way using variable rate encodes (VBR) that have a range from 4 - 7.4Mbps. In order to know whether the resulting file will fit onto your disc you have to do some good old 'bit budgeting'. There are online tools to help you where you type in the length of your footage in minutes, and the size of your DVD capacity, and it tells you what the bitrate needs to be in order to fit the space available. Be careful though - it cannot tell what your footage is, and you have to preview the results yourself to judge if the quality is right.
A tip is to find the 'problem' areas in the footage, make a short (2mins) clip and encode that at different bit rates. When you find one that works well, use that for all of the footage. As long as you use 2 pass (VBR) encodes in Compressor, it will assign lower bitrates to the easier sections, and higher bitrates to the problem areas.
There are many other encoders out there which are better than Compressor - have a look at Cinemacraft on a PC for a start - but you pay a premium for them. They also take a while to learn, but the trick to making a great looking DVD is to use great looking source footage and encode it well before making the DVD. If you encode as part of making the DVD then you've missed the point and you'll get 'average' results at best!

  • Adding a 2nd subtitle track to new timeline in DVD Studio Pro

I have made a video with English subtitles in FCP and Using DVD Studio Pro. Now it is time to add spanish subtitles and also enter redited timeline. I haven't managed to find a way to import the english subtitle track into a new project, or export it over to a new project. Apple training program for DVDSP has no guidance. Anyone know how to avoid having to renter manually english subtitles?  Thanks, Laura

The subtitles are made in DVD Studio Pro, not FCP Pro. It is easy to add a 2nd subtitle track to an existing project. What I need to do is have a NEW project so I can use my NEW re-edited timeline. The question is how do i copy/import/export my english track that is already in a .dspproj file, so I can use it in a new project (it is a new timeline) to create a new edition of my dvd. Again, the subtitles are not in FCP.  Is there really no way to use the english subtitles already created in DVD STU Pro. As I said, there are no istructions in the help manual, nor are there in the Apple DVD Studio Pro training book/dvd.
    Thanks, Laura

  • Lost Compressor and DVD Studio Pro apps

I just finished a project on FCP and when I tried to export it to Compressor, I got a message that says " application not installed properly". I checked the dock and noticed a "question mark" on the application icon of both the Compressor and DVD Studio Pro. I then search the two of them in the Applications Table but couldn't find them there either. I inserted the DVD Studio Pro software disc and attempted to re-install the application. It was using space on the hard drive but it still not showing in the apps table. What is going on ? Can somebody help me with this ?!

Thanks Tom for the reply, I did as you recommended and was able to reinstall DVD studio Pro, but the Compressor is still missing. I mean, the icon is there but when I click to open the app, it only show the a bigger picture of the application but it doesn't open.

  • DVD Studio pro " Complier File Error"

MY DVD studio pro is no longer working, I get " Complier File Error " when I try to burn a disc. Will this have anything to do with using Mountion lion on my computor?  The DVD studio pro  works on my new pro mac. So what is wrong.
I did reload FCP 7 again and it uploads but will not work.

  • How do you fix a "compiler file error" in DVD Studio Pro?

I've tried to burn a DVD from a project file in DVD Studio Pro a couple times now and get a "Compiler File Error" each time. What does it mean and how do I fix it?
    Thanks.

where are you assests from? did you use compressor to create a mpeg2 and dolby audio file? did you export self contained and bring into compressor? or a reference movie? What were your orginal seq settings? More details.

  • DVD Studio Pro 4 Encoding Preferences

    Hello,
I have 40GB of MOV files and they all have this specs:
    - 640x480
    - 4000kbps bitrate
Now, when I go to DVD Studio Pro -- Preferences -- Encoding -- SD DVD... I have the bit rate so, lets say for instance 4000kbps bit rate, I import a video file (AVI, MOV or others), DVD Studio Pro will convert that file to 4000kbps encoding on MPEG-2 (.m2v files), right? Now, what about if I change the bit rate to 2000kbps, now the file I just transfered to DVD Studio Pro becomes smaller, and the quality gets a bit lower, but it is ok, what I really need is to fit my home videos to at least 2-4 DVD, of not, that would be a shame if it didnt work as I wanted. So, 2000kbps, the quality is good, not bad... Now here is my question...
Can I change the bit rate to 1000kbps,, 1500, or even lower than that? How? Why cant DVD Studio Pro have this option of a bit rate lower than 2000kbps, how can I do it? Is there any trick, please advice, I am trying to do this encoding for a month and I really need to finish it for the next week and put it on my DVD Presentation.
Is there any plugins or that sort of things that can HAVE the option of lower than 2000kbps bit rate constant on DVSP4?
Thank you for reading this, any help would be really appreciated...
    iMac 20" - Intel Core Duo 2GHz, 512MB RAM, 128MB ATi Radeon X1600, 1TB of HDs   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

    Hello,
As always, thank you for helping me out. The thing is, I already used compressor. For instance, I encoded a 14MB MOV file in compressor to MPEG-2 (M2V) and Dolby (AC3) and the file was about 8MB (M2V Video File + AC3 Audio File = about 8MB), in a bit rate of 2mbps, and the wuality was terrible! I oculd see the pixels everywhere, it had a terrible quality. So, when I imported the MOV file (14MB) to DVSP4 without using compressor, the size it took on the DVD Project was 8.8MB and the quality was the same as my MOV file, perfect quality, great, I loved it. And look at this, my DVSP4 preferences was set for 2000kbps bit rate encoding, and with a great quality. That is why I wanted sooo much to find a way to encode my videos to DVSP4 in a lower bit rate, so I could put all of my 40GB of Home videos in about 2-4 DVDs... but now I will have to put it all in about 6-7...
Any advices? I dont want and I cant use Compressor because the quality DVD`is realllly poor. Ive searched everywhere for a encoder that can actually encode my videos to a MPEG-2 format (that means the format DVSP4 uses for DVD Video Encoding) but I simply cannot find one!! Ive tried to PCs and Macs... none of them has worked.
    Please help, thank you...

  • DVD Studio Pro will not recogise my chapter markers!!!

When I export my Quicktime movie from Final cut, I include the DVD Studio Pro markers.
However, when it gets into DVD Studio Pro, it does not recognise them at all.
I tried in vain to go back to Final Cut Pro and export the markers "as a text file" but could not find anywhere to do that. I looked at XML exporting but that did not work either!
How can you get Final Cut Pro to just export chapter markers.
    Help!

You might also try right-clicking on the mpeg in the track in DVDSP and choosing "add embedded markers". I think I remember noticing that markers did not necessarily import automatically when adding an mpeg to a track, if there were any markers already in that track (with the exception of the un-deletable first one).
There is also an option in the Compressor preset, in the Encoder pane of the Inspector, under Extras, where the inclusion of markers can be checked on or off. If you are exporting to a Quicktime movie before importing to Compressor, you should be able to see the markers in the preview window by choosing to show them from the markers dropdown to the right of the Compressor preview window's scrubber bar.
    Hope this helps.

  • DVD Studio Pro Error message

In dvd studio pro 4.1.2 I keep getting an error message when burning. "Media error L-EC uncorrectable error (OX11, OXO5.) I just started getting this message after years of no problems. It starts the burn and goes through Encoding but then stops less than 1 minute into Formatting/Writing Image. I have tried several different projects that I have already burned successfully in the past and I still have the same problem. I even tried burning in iDVD and have the same problem in that program.

sounds like your physical dvd burner needs replacing..
ive had similar problems and replaced the dvd unit and everything back to normal. depending on the mac model you have will depend how tricky it is, most tower units are straight forward, a few issues with some needing you to remove the plastic bit of the front of the dvd tray door so that it can come out of the g5 slot if i remember rightly. not hard though and pretty cheap. check compatibility first though to make sure the replacement dvd is going to work.

    Hello,
I have installed VS2010 Professional. I have done a full install. The I install the 2010 redistributable and 2010 SP1. So I think I have installed all the needed products. But my include files has only 3 files :(. anmintrin.h, srv.h, wmiatlprov.h. My colleagues
who have installed the same three products have some 200 header files. My guess these header files are coming from some SDK or so. I have 5.0, 6.0A, 7.0A. 7.1A, 8.0, 8.0A SDKS installed. What am I missing?
Please check this http://stackoverflow.com/questions/13656856/cant-get-visual-studio-c-include-file-excpt-h-to-get-installed and there the person tells to practically remove all and install all and another answer says just copy it. My hope is Microsoft

  • FCP Studio won't install FC but will install Motion, DVD Studio etc.

I'm installing Final Cut Studio 2 and when going through the installation process, there is no option to install Final Cut yet DVD Studio Pro, Motion, LiveType etc. are able to be installed. I previously had a version of FCP7 which was uninstalled (long story short I was borrowing it) so that's the only issue I can see, but I completely removed any lingeringfiles. All that is said for Final Cut, Color, and Compressor is "Skip". Help would be greatly appreciated as this is preventing several pertinent projects from being carried out.
