DVD Studio Pro 1.5 Won't Recognize Any Video Files

Hello, everyone! I guess this might be a little prehistoric, but I really need help. I have the dinosaur, DVD Studio Pro 1.5, and for some reason it won't recognize any .m2v's, .mpeg's, or anything else. As I understand it, DVD Studio Pro 1.5 will only take MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 files, but whenever I use them, it says, "Error: Unknown File Type," in the Log.
Can someone help me? Perhaps there is a way to make it accept more than just MPEG-1 & 2?
Thanks so much!

Well, I used the requirements for Widescreen NTSC in BitVice. The requirements are given in the DVD Studio Pro 1.5 manual. However, when I went to drag the file into DVD Studio Pro 1.5, the log came up and said: ERROR: 480 is not the proper height for a PAL file.
So, I knew that it must only want PAL files.
Another problem:
To apply videos for a Motion Menu, I am supposed to click on the menu in the Graphical View, and go to "Asset" under "Picture," and select the video I want. The problem is, it won't show ANY .m2v's in the Asset drop box. It will show my Photoshop files, though. And, I'm sorry to say that those files you offered me didn't work either. (They didn't show up under the Asset drop box.)
[Thanks so much, by the way! They had NO trouble importing to DVD Studio Pro!]
Here's a picture of my computer and the missing files in the "Assets" drop box.

All of a sudden, DVD Studio Pro 4.0.3. doesn't like any of my m2v files created by Compressor 2.0.1
these are the same m2v files I imported and burned into DVDs a couple months ago...and any new m2v files I create with Compressor...cause DVD Studio Pro to crash
DVD Studio Pro 4.0.3 will import old m2v files that I created a couple years ago using DVD Studio Pro 2 - and any new audio files created with Compressor and quicktime files from Final Cut Pro 5.
I have 1.5 GB of RAM...my drives are not too full...this was all working fine until recently and I can't see what has changed.

  • DVD Studio Pro and Motion won't work

I posted this in the Tiger forum and didn't get a solution so I'm trying here.
After installing Tiger DVD Studio Pro and Motion quit working.
Both applications open (in the menu bar at least), but neither one will open all of its windows and nothing happens when I click on anything in the windows that do open. Nothing's frozen (the menus still respond), but there are no windows to work in.
I booted into Panther from my Backup drive and DVD SP works, but Motion won't even startup.
I'm hurtin' here. Can anyone help?
I'm using DVD SP v2.0.5 and Motion v1.0.1 on a Dual 1.42 PowerPC G4 with 1.5 GB DDR SDRAM and an ATI RADEON 9600 Mac Edition video card.

  • DVD Studio Pro 4 freezing when I click on video tab in palette

I have a recent problem with DVD Studio Pro 4. When I open the application it appears to be okay, but when I click on the video tab in the palette the application freezes. All other tabs open okay: Templates, Styles, Shapes, Audio, Stills, but when I click on video the whole thing freezes.
This has only recently happened and I have used this software plenty in the past.
I would appreciate if anyone could help or let me know if you need more details.
    Cheers

I renamed the current pref file, com.apple.dvdstudiopro.plist, and restarted the application. This seems to have corrected the problem. A new version of the file was created when the application was restarted. Hopefully this will be a long lasting fix.
Thanks very much for your help.

  • IDVD won't recognize any QuickTime files...

Suddenly iDVD doesn't recognize any of the files I had created previous DVDs with, nor is it recognizing new .mov files I have created. QuickTime, FCP, and DVD Studio Pro all still recognize and use the .mov files.
Has anyone else had this problem?
I have deleted iDVD and reinstalled, but the problem persists...
    Any help out there?

Okay, I got on under my troubleshooting account, in which I've never even opened any of the iLife apps, populate the iPhoto library with some images off a memory stick, ditto for iTunes, and 2 of the Quicktime Movies that won't work under my regular account.
Created a brand new iPhoto slideshow and exported it through the 'share with iDVD' option as before. At the end of the slideshow export, I got an error message from iDVD saying that there were issues with the build and the movie was not a valid one, something like "it is not a movie". But, there it is, sitting in my Movies Folder as a Quicktime Movie AND I can play it with Quicktime.
So I try to do a new iDVD. Select the Revolution Template, drag in images from the iDVD media browser Photos, drag in music from the iDVD media browser Audio. All okay. Then I do the 'add a movie' choice, and drag the Quicktime Movie into the iDVD menu as before, and as before, it cannot 'find' it. I use the 'find file' again, and there it is, right where iDVD cannot see it. I select and open it, but iDVD responds by moving that 'find' to the bottom of the list and I'm caught in a gerbil wheel of 'finding' files that are right in front of me in the Finder, but can't be seen by iDVD.
I also restored all preferences from my last Time Machine save for iDVD, iPhoto, and the Media Browser. Tried it all again. No luck.
    Any ideas?

  • Open iDVD project in DVD Studio Pro

    Hi
    I need some help.
I have DVD Studio Pro 4.0.3 which was part of Final Cut Studio (1?) and I want to open an iDVD (7.0.4) project, but it won't let me saying:
+DVD Studio Pro does not support projects created in iDVD 5 or later.+
I guess I have to upgrade DVD Studio Pro, but it won't let me as I have an early Final Cut Studio which is not eligible for upgrades.
    Any ideas for workarounds?
The reason I want to burn the DVD in DVD studio is to get a better quality result as the burn at the moment from iDVD is blocky in places. Or will it not make any difference?
    Thanks

yes I have it set to professional, but I think the problem is that the film is very nearly 2 hours long so it has to do a lot of compression to make it fit. I have re-encoded the project with iDVD to a dual layer DVD and that looks better but I really want to use single layer for cost and compatibility.
Would DVD studio pro do a better job or does it just use the same engine as DVD Studio Pro?

  • Export markers from Final Cut Pro X to DVD Studio Pro

    Hello,
After finding out how to create chapters via markers in Final Cut Pro we wonder how to export these markers to DVD Studio Pro without having to create ourselves a .txt file and writing the names and the times of the markers in it to export it to DVD Studio Pro. Isn't there a way to make this happen automatically?
Unfortunately the new version of Final Cut Pro doesn't have an export to Quick Time Player and this is why this kind of solution falls out and we really need to create the markers first in Final Cut Pro and not directly in DVD Studio.
    Is there a solution?
    Thank you.

At present, you cannot add chapter markers in FCP X.
If you send the project to Compressor, you can add chapter markers there, or you can add them in DVD SP.
You can add the chapter markers in Compressor or DVD SP manually, or if you create a text file listing the exact timecode positions (from FCP X storyline) where you want the chapter markers to be (each on a new line) Compressor (or DVD SP) will automatically insert the markers when you point it to the text file.

  • Is there is a way to export the themes from iDVD to DVD Studio Pro?

OK...so here's what I'm trying to find out: is there is a way to export the themes from iDVD to DVD Studio Pro? Or can I build the project in DVDSTPRO and import it to iDVD to build and burn?
I've read several threads here and haven't come across my specific question. If I missed it, please copy me a link. Otherwise, I'd like to use the templates/themes in iDVD with my FCP project.
I was thinking about importing the project from FCP to iDVD. Then, I thought about the markers etc....
So, if anyone had an idea, tip or link, I'm all for it!
    Thanks!

    Importing iDVD Projects and Themes
DVD Studio Pro 4 can import projects from iDVD 3 and iDVD 4. You can import an iDVD theme by using the theme in a project within iDVD and importing the project into DVD Studio Pro. When creating the project within iDVD, you do not need to use the final assets or make a complete project.
Note: DVD Studio Pro will not import projects from iDVD 1, iDVD 2, and iDVD 5. In general, iDVD needs to be installed on the same system as DVD Studio Pro. An exception is if you import an iDVD 4 archive project.
To import an iDVD project or archived project into DVD Studio Pro:
1 Do one of the following:
    • Choose File > Open.
    • Press Command-O.
2 Locate and select the iDVD project or iDVD 4 archive project in the Open dialog, then click Open.
DVD Studio Pro imports the iDVD project.
    About the iDVD Project Import
When DVD Studio Pro imports an iDVD 3 or iDVD 4 project or iDVD 4 archive project, it has standard locations it looks for to find the assets and themes used in the project. This is especially important if the project uses custom themes.
The standard locations that DVD Studio Pro uses are (in this order):
    • iDVD project bundle: This is the file created when you save the project.
    • [user]/Library/iDVD/Favorites: This folder is located in your home folder.
    • [root]/Library/iDVD/Favorites: This folder is located at the root of your disk.
    • /Network/Library/iDVD/Favorites: This folder is on a network system specifically
configured by your system administrator for this purpose. (This is not the same as having a server networked into your computer.)
    • iDVD application bundle: This is the iDVD application file that contains the default theme elements.
Note: When you create an archive project in iDVD 4, you can choose to include the themes and encoded files. For the best portability, you should include both options. This results in a larger archive file, but ensures you can take the file to any DVD Studio Pro system and import it without missing assets. If you do not choose to include the themes and encoded files in the archive file, those assets must be available in one of the standard locations.
If your project will have automatically-created chapter index (scene selection) menus based on markers embedded in the video, it can be easier to create these within iDVD prior to importing the project into DVD Studio Pro. This ensures the chapter index menus use the selected theme’s background and include arrow buttons to navigate between the menus.
Important: To ensure all iDVD menu elements import correctly into DVD Studio Pro, you must navigate to each chapter index menu within iDVD before saving the project. This is also true for any menus you add to your iDVD project by clicking the Folder button.
    Issues With Importing iDVD Projects
There are some issues to be aware of when you import iDVD projects:
    • If you import an iDVD project with DVD-ROM content, DVD Studio Pro does not update the settings in the Disc Inspector’s General tab to reflect the DVD-ROM content. You must manually select the DVD-ROM layout and choose the folder to include.
    • When you create a slideshow in iDVD, you can add arrow buttons to each still to provide viewers with an additional method of jumping to the previous and next stills. These arrow buttons are not imported when you import an iDVD project into DVD Studio Pro. The viewer must use the Previous and Next buttons on the DVD player’s remote control to jump between stills.
    • The button highlights used in iDVD may look different when imported into DVD Studio Pro. In most cases, the text in the buttons is set to be included in the highlight. Additionally, buttons that use an underline in iDVD will not have an underline when imported into DVD Studio Pro.
    • When you import an iDVD project, you may find that the button that is highlighted by default on some menus changes. During the project import, DVD Studio Pro numbers the buttons on each menu and highlights button 1 by default. You can assign any button on a menu to be the default button in the Menu tab in the Menu Inspector.
    • If you import an iDVD project that contains a drop zone configured as a slideshow and has multiple slides assigned to it, DVD Studio Pro only shows the slideshow’s first slide in the drop zone.

  • Export from FCP directly into DVD studio pro?

Is it possible to export from FCP directly into DVD studio pro? If not, what is the preferred file format because my exported quicktime files come up as "incompatible format" when I try to add them into my DVD project. Any help is appreciated.

You need to encode audio as well from Compressor. You'll have 2 files - audio and video.

  • H.264 not readable in DVD Studio Pro

I'm using compressor for a massive DVD Yearbook. The setting I am using is the H.264 For DVD Studio Pro. However, when importing the converted videos into DVD STudio Pro, the software gives an error saying, "This format is not readable by DVD SP." What gives? If it says H.264 for DVD Studio Pro, why will the program not read a file created specifically for it?

The only format that DVDs read is mpeg 2. H.264 is a great compression, but not DVD compatible.
You can take the original full quality .mov and compress to mpeg2 from that. It'll give you better quailty than compressing an already-compressed file. "Export using compressor" option in FCP is the best choice -- then choose DVD presets when compressor opens.

  • Missing fonts from DVD studio Pro

HELP!!! Anyone had this problem. Feel stupid asking because the answer will be right under my nose at the end of the keyboard.
I have recently re-installed DVD STudio Pro 4 and no longer have any fonts available when I access the font panel to create text for buttons etc. Any ideas???

thanks Gary, tried that one already, no luck. Just doesn't make any sense. Where have all the fonts gone. All other programs find the font folder just DVDSP...mystery!

  • FCP Export to DVD Studio Pro

I am trying to export a QT movie file from FCP to DVD Studio Pro, but once it is in DVDSP, the file is too large to fit on a dual-layer DVD-R. Not to mention there are other files that need to be on that same DVD.
I was told to always export it with CURRENT SETTINGS ..... but when I do, they are over 10GBs in DVD Studio Pro.
Do I have to re-edit my movie to make it shorter? Its only a 45min HD Video. Or is there a setting I am missing here?
    Please help! Thanks so much.

Yes, export with current settings. But you're leaving out the crucial step, which is creating the mpeg file that dvdsp needs. You can either make it in compressor or let dvdsp do it in the background while you author your menus etc. It's the same engine either way. But having dvdsp do it, while in one way simpler-- the controls need a lot more drilling down to find. Sorry if that's a convoluted sentence. Too many jelly beans.

  • Audio sync drifts w quicktime or mpeg-2 ac3 in quicktime or dvd studio pro

Sorry to post twice but question wasn't asked right so I posted again with the subject correct as I didn't know how to delete other that said audio drifted opening in compressor which isn't the case this is about audio drifting that is perfect in a final cut pro sequence, perfect when I look at a self contained quicktime made, but when I import into dvd studio pro even before making a dvd and just looking at the video and sound in tracks as assets, it's already drifting, and is still the same if I make a dvd:
    This is very perplexing.
My audio is spot on for sync in final cut sequences.
When I make a quicktime self contained and open it in final cut it is also perfect.
If I open that same finished self contained file in quicktime or place it in dvdstudio pro, there's what looks like moments the picture is faster than the sound but not always....it is not a lot like maybe 5 frames or so sometimes worse at times...this project is 90 minutes...it occurs in and out throughout not just at the top or the end.
This is the same both for the quicktime self contained with its aiff files and the mpeg with ac3 files the same amount of drift I can see when dropped into dvdstudio pro in the same places it appears...I checked the source audio files and don't see a difference
sound is mostly source 16 bit, there are music parts that were originally 24 but this isn't necessarily where this drift occurs it occurs in places where it's just dialogue.
Compressor version is 3.05 final cut studio 2 with latest updates

I opened two files they do the same things when they go into studio pro
    the quicktime file
    fps 23.98
    rate 24.55 mbits/s
    size 720x480
    actual the same
    playing fps (available while playing)
    the mpeg 2:
    720x404
    fps 23.98
    data size 3.85
    rate 6191.42kbits/s
this is just the quicktime self contained file as I said if I open it in final cut it's right in sync, in quicktime I see the same drift as when I open this in dvd studio pro the same as with the mpeg 2 file I make in compressor...
the pixel discrepancy for whatever it means this is an anamorphic rendering in the nest just so you're aware

  • DVD Studio Pro tries to open unrelated files...Please help.

Ok, here is my problem, and I'm not even sure if this is the right forum for my question. I recently tried to install a .componet file for Garage Band and it didn't work. When I Control Click and get to the "Get Info" option it says that this .componet file is an "iDVD 2 Project". Upon further inspection most of my .plugin files are marked the same when they are not.
Is there any way to change how these files are open...or at least tell DVD Studio Pro that these are not the types of files it thinks they are?

You say iDVD & dvdsp... and yep this is more of an OS issue... but when you get info why not go to the 'Open with' section and choose the app you want to use to open the file type with. Then hit the Change All.. button,
    -Jake
