DVD Studio Pro 4 not encoding???

OK... so I just got done making my project file in DVDSP 4. As I have been going along, it has been encoding assets just like usual. Right before I burned my project to disc, I noticed a problem in the Motion file I made for the menu and in the video track itself. I fixed them both, re-opened my DVDSP project and was warned that some assets have changed.... like usual. I click OK, and it re-encodes the video track..... BUT not the Motion file. I exit DVDSP and re-open again, and it seems to be working ok. This is my first go at DVDSP 4.... am I missing something here???
I should add that it did the same thing earlier when I tried to build my project.... it sat at the "Encoding Asset" phase for over 2 hours. I cancelled the build only to find that it hadn't even started the encoding process. In hind sight, I have been noticing version 4 is MUCH slower than version 3 was. This is my first go at DVDSP 4.... am I missing something here??? Any input would be fantastic!!!
Thanks again,
Chris

Give this a try...
Instead of letting DVDSP do the encoding, let Compressor do the work and bring the asset in already to go.
I was considering this plan of attack.... which settings do you use in Compressor? Will there be a noticeable difference between "Fastest Encode" and "Best Quality"?

  • DVD Studio Pro will not recogise my chapter markers!!!

When I export my Quicktime movie from Final cut, I include the DVD Studio Pro markers.
However, when it gets into DVD Studio Pro, it does not recognise them at all.
I tried in vain to go back to Final Cut Pro and export the markers "as a text file" but could not find anywhere to do that. I looked at XML exporting but that did not work either!
How can you get Final Cut Pro to just export chapter markers.
    Help!

You might also try right-clicking on the mpeg in the track in DVDSP and choosing "add embedded markers". I think I remember noticing that markers did not necessarily import automatically when adding an mpeg to a track, if there were any markers already in that track (with the exception of the un-deletable first one).
There is also an option in the Compressor preset, in the Encoder pane of the Inspector, under Extras, where the inclusion of markers can be checked on or off. If you are exporting to a Quicktime movie before importing to Compressor, you should be able to see the markers in the preview window by choosing to show them from the markers dropdown to the right of the Compressor preview window's scrubber bar.
    Hope this helps.

  • Idvd & dvd studio pro disc not playing properly in other players

    Hi
I have edited a program for the past 3 DAYS, and i have burned the program using IDVD, DVD studio pro, and Toast Titanium.
It plays ok on my G5 and my laptop G4.
And every lousy time i give the disc to the client something different goes wrong.
If it's not a lockup,it's artifacts, and programs jumping forward and backwards between scenes, by itself.
I'm using Memorex and Philips DVD discs.
My Toshiba DVD appliance deck burns the program beautifully and no hiccups.
But the customer wants the lovely menus that apple has designed
Personally i am sick and tired of apple and all the "perfect world marketing" , i had yet to burn a DVD disc with idvd or dvd studio pro with any confidence.
Apple should get into the " Bovine scatology " business, at least when that gets spread something grows despite the smell.
Anyway, i don't know if anyone can help me or not .
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thank you
    Vic.

While I can understand your frustration, I believe the problem here is in the encoding settings. iDVD doesn't give you much control over specific encoding settings, whereas encoding through Compressor will.
Some specific things are missing from your post. What is your workflow? How are you exporting your timeline? What format is your project (DV, HDV, DVCPRO, PAL, NTSC)? When you built your DVD in Studio Pro, what encoding settings did you use? Do you know where the encoding settings are? What are the settings for your DVD project (SD or HD)?
You would do yourself and your client good to take some time to read over proper DVD mastering workflows. It's really quite painless once you understand how things work. Blaming Apple for this is not a very helpful way to solve your problem.
The tutorial DVDs that came packaged with your install discs will also help. Just look at the lessons for DVD Studio Pro.

I have created a project, a DVD with menus and subtitles in 2 languages, yet when I burn the DVD (both using build/format option and build format options separately)the resulting DVD has no main menu, actually it has no menus at all! it goes straight into the DVD film where I can change subtitles language only from the remote buttons. DOES ANYONE PLEASE KNOW THE REASON FOR THIS???? AND HOW TO SOLVE IT???? PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE...HAVE TO SEND THIS PROJECT OFF SOON.
I have burned another project with menus succesfully..

    Hi
FIRST check that your Play Movie button in your menu has NOT an Auto Action selected that make it plays automatically your movie when the Menu loads. You'll find that setting in the Advanced tab of Inspector. If not . . .
You can try a workaround, no matter that if you have your Menu as First Play it must work. Try yhis:
    - Create a simple black JPG file i.e. in Photoshop
    - Create a Slideshow
    - Add a the JPG to the slideshow, set duration 2 secs
    - Set the Slideshow as First Play
    - Set Slideshow End Jump to your Main Menu
    Build and burn again.

  • HD DVD Authored in DVD Studio Pro does not play - any suggestions?

so i've built a hd dvd in dvd studio pro. here's the odd thing. once built, the hd dvd files sitting on a folder on my hard drive can be played by dvd player. but when i burn these files onto a disk using toast, the apple dvd player can't play them. and they don't play on any of my dvd players either. anyone ever run into this problem?

HD DVD required UDF 2.5. Not sure if Toast supports that. Burn with DVDSP instead. HD DVD required an HD DVD player as well.

  • DVD Studio Pro will not burn DVD in Lacie D2 External DVD Burner

I ordered a new pack of DVD's. These are the Beall 16x DVD's I bought from Meritline.com. I had been using the 8x Beall's with no problem. I was told that my interal drive was not compatable with the faster burning DVDs. So I bought a LaCie D2 External DVD burner 16x. I still can't burn a dvd in dvd studio pro. I tried Patchburn. It said that this burner is already supported.
I am using DVD Studio Pro 2.
    Any ideas?

Have you tried burning on other types of brands when burning to your external LaCie? My company bought a NEC external DL burner and it only worked with some type of discs, Maxell DVD+R DL worked but Traxdata DVD+R DL and some other Noname disc didnt work, maybe try that?

  • DVD Studio Pro will not load videos

    Hello,
Ever since I upgraded the latest Quicktime Update I cannot load video assets into DVD Studio Pro. The program keeps locking up.
I have deleted my DVD Studio Pro preferences several times with no success.
    Any Ideas?
    Thanks,
    Mike Kommersmith

When you try to load video assets from the palette, the spinning ball just comes up. I didnt leave it that long before force quiting. But the poster left if for an hour.
I'm using final cut studio. But it all happened on my imac and macbook pro right after the quicktime upgrade.
I did find a work around, which I posted above. Instead of importing thru the palette, just import by clicking file / import/ asset. But the heck would cause the palette to lock up like that? When you force quit dvd studio it says "not responding" next to the program name. I've tried all different video files on my desktop, one at a time. But I dont think the program even gets that far, it just locks up as soon as you hit the palette area of the screen.
I can import audio, stills ,etc without a problem.
I'm just amazed that noone else ran into this problem yet.

  • Dvd Studio Pro Serial Not Working

Hi all,I recently had to replace my late 2005 G5 Powermac due to its inconsistency in powering up.
Cutting the story short,I bought a second hand PowerMac which Ive been using for the past months with no problems,I re installed my Original compy of Final Cut Studio and everything seems to work fine, oly today Ive tried to burn a project on DVD with DVD Studio Pro 4 and it will not accept my original serial !
Ive already tried deleting the FInal Cut System ID and reinserting the serial but no luck.
Anyone had this problem before ? If not ,how could I claim Apple ?after all the original suite cost me back in its day around 1000euros.
    Thanks

    kkita75 wrote:
Thats the version I have on my laptop, sorry !
Well, there never was a Final Cut Studio 9. So I'm still confused. What version is listed on your disk?
DVD SP shouldn't be asking for a serial number if the FCS suite was correctly installed.
Download this utility and remove DVDSP (it will ensure that you get all the associated files). Reinstall from the install disks. Then run Software Update repeatedly until there is nothing more listed. Repair permissions in Disk Utility and launch DVDSP.
I wouldn't be surprised if this fails to cure the problem. If it doesn't work, repeat the process and uninstall the entire suite, running Software Update, and so forth.

  • DVD Studio Pro quits when encoding menus with video

Im using DVD Studio Pro 2 on a G5. Whenever I try to burn using either a menu template containing video or use a drop zone containing video, the software crashes.
I always use m2V video and ac3 audio created in FC4. Have tried usuing an existing file asset as my target with duration time set as well as separate imported files as the target. All imported assets are in the same folder
On burn, when it gets to the menu containing the video it crashes. If I remove the video from the menu its a smooth burn.
    Any suggestions wouldbe greatly appreciated.

    tomd63,
Before you read this remember I am new to FCP and DVDSP. I think I remembered why I couldn't burn the DVD. I did a video for a friend and when I was editing it I put in several markers. I then decided to send him a clip via email of about 30 seconds to see if he liked the theme I set. I did an "in and out" in FCP... made it into a QT then just dragged it into iMovie then sent it from there. Later I thought I would use that same 30 second clip in the intro menu.
My guess now ( having a little more experience) was that the chapter markers left in the 30 second clip screwed things up.

  • Is it true that DVD Studio Pro will not burn HD discs?

I an considering shooting in HD and editing that in Final Cut Express, but I have been told that DVD Studio Pro won't create a HD disc without a very expensive addition of something called Blue-Ray. Are there any advantages of shooting in HD, if the final disc won't support it? Would the aspect ratio be 16:9, but with no better definition?
    Thanks, Bob

You're better off putting it into Compressor and using one of the DVD presets such as DVD Best Quality 90 mins. That will give you much better quality than DVD SP's built-in compressor.
SD stands for Standard Definition and refers to NTSC, PAL, SECAM, etc, depending on which country you are in.
In DVD SP you can change the aspect ratio settings so that it will display in 16:9 on a widescreen TV but letterboxed on a 4:3 screen.

  • Buttons work in DVD Studio Pro, but not in DVD Player. Why?

I recently upgraded I movie I made to Dual layer disk. I had already built one for a standard 4.7 dvd but now I was putting on a director's commentary so I need more space. So I opened up the original DVD Studio Pro project, thats worked fine for over a year, then saved it as "director's commentary", then simply changed the settings for a Dual Layer. In DSP the buttons on the first menu work fine. But when I build it and open it up in DVD Player the buttons dont activate. Even when you roll over them there is nothing there.
    Whats happening?

You can find information on Reader Extensions on the developer center: http://partners.adobe.com/public/developer/livecycle/readerextensions/devcenter.html
For help with the buttons to navigate, go into Designer help and search for "Attaching a database script to a button" (without the quotes) and this should provide you with the information that you need.
Michael, is this where you found your information the first time?

  • Studio Pro 4 not Encoding stays at 0% when burning Movie

I updated to Leopard and just did a video in FCP and exported using quicktime settings. When I created the project in Studio Pro it comes out to 2.5GB. My Bit rate is at 3.7 and when I try to burn my ecoding does not move at all! It stays at 0%
Has anyone had this issue, or can anyone help me get pass this 0%encoding?
    Thanks
    George

Try making the m2v and AC3 files outside of DVD SP in Compressor.
Also note that Leopard and Studio 2 has some issues, depending on how things were installed (though I do not recall this problem).

  • DVD Studio Pro does not work on Mavericks

Is there a way to install Mountain Lion on a partition I created?  I made a 101GB partition on my 750GB H/D.  I tried holding the C button down on starup but all I got was the panic screen telling me I had to shut down again. Am I doing something wrong or is there another solution that is eluding me?  I want to regain full functionality of DVD Studion Pro, that I lost when I installed Mavericks.

I have no such issues on my systems, we burn lots of DVDs. Description suggests something wrong with your DVD drive not the software or OS since neither Eric nor I can duplicate your problem.

    * malloczonemalloc[537]: argument too large: 3638034432
Anyone know what is going on / how to get program to start?
    Many thanks.

Update. Wow, how to write this one up? Here is the procedure that I went through in order to solve this issue – I only hope it can assist others.
First, I tried all standard issue resolution steps offered here and from Apple: dumped preferences files, repaired permissions, etc. Issue not resolved. Decided to re-install application. Followed Apple protocol for application deletion then re-installed. Issue not resolved. Again, deleted DVDSP following steps then re-installed DVDSP 2, which would launch, this made me hopeful, went on to install 3. 3 would not launch. ****. Then, on a hunch, I decided to look into the last time the program ran successfully, which was yesterday. The reason I had this hunch was due to the last line in the error code that was given when I would attempt to launch the program.
    “* malloczonemalloc[503]: argument too large: 3638034432”
Not knowing what this meant, I went to Google. Nothing real specific to my issue there, although, from my research, I got the impression that this had something to do with a program trying to access a file that was too large. Hmmmm… hunch time.
Last successful shutdown of program was at 7:43 PM. I did a search of files created around this time and there it was, the only DVDSP associated file created close to this time. It was a custom shape that was imported from photoshop at 7:31 PM and used in a DVD that I was working on. Checking to see if it was corrupt I opened it, it opened fine in photoshop, ****. Thinking there had to be something there, I did a search for the file name. Two files found, one where the time search had found it, and one in the library/appsupport/DVDSP/shapes folder. The file in this folder was created at 7:43 PM, the exact time of the last successful shutdown of the program, however, it was not found when I searched by creation date, as the original file was. The file size of this file was 0KB. Ah HA! Maybe, just maybe. I deleted this file and attempted to re-launch DVDSP…
    SUCCESS!!!!!
Hot ****! Sorry for the long narrative but I’m just so happy I could crap myself. I guess this file that was a custom shape created in photoshop and imported into DVDSP, successfully I might add, as I programmed the button and everything, but when I closed the program, DVDSP apparently tried to re-copy the file into its own directory and corrupted the file. Once deleted, all works as should, WOW. What a pain in the ***!
I only hope this comes to be helpful to some poor soul who has a crashing application that maybe recently imported a custom shape or otherwise.
    Out.
