DVD Studio Pro 4 on a Macbook

Im wanting to buy a DVD Studio Pro 4 from a friend that bought FCS2 but doesnt need the DVD Studio. My question is, will it run on a Macbook?? Not Macbook Pro, just the regular Macbook? Thanks!
GC

You should take a look at the Software License for FCS2 before buying from you friend (doing so runs afoul of the SLA)

  • Using DVD Studio Pro 4 on a MacBook

    Hello,
I am considering buying a MacBook (the 2,16ghz model) and, unfortunately, a MacBook Pro is not a option at the moment.
I was wondering if the DVD Studio Pro 4 runs well on a MacBook. If it has any restrictions.
    Thanks in advance.

My colleague uses it on a MacBook with no problems.
The only applications that are likely to cause problems are ones that make heavy use of the graphics card, like Color.

  • To create a PAL DVD in DVD Studio Pro...

I simply took my NTSC Uncompressed Quicktime File, put it into Compressor, and when I converted the file to MPEG 2 I changed the Video Format to PAL in the Inspector Settings. I didn't make any changes to the AC3 settings...
When the m2v and AC3 files were created I put them into DVD Studio Pro in a PAL Project and burned a DVD...
I watched the DVD on my MacBook Pro computer in DVD Player and it looked great and the sound synced up and everything. I put the DVD into my Playstation 3 and tried to watch it on my NTSC TV Monitor and a message came up saying "Playstation doesn't support PAL format"...
So it seems like everything worked correctly. Did it? I need to send this DVD to the Edinburgh International Film Festival and I want to make sure it will work.
    Thanks!

The Best Buy Blueray player to get is the Playstation 3. Someone here said that as a Blueray player it's terrible compared to a designated Blueray player, and he may be right, but my local high-end audio store said the Playstation 3 is actually a very good Blueray disc player. These guys are very reputable so I'm not sure what this other guy is talking about. I'm sure there are designated players that are better than the Playstation 3, but they can't be $400 either. And I personally thought the quality of my Blueray disc on my Playstation 3 was awesome, though of I've not watched the disc on a designated player for comparison. Hope this helps...

  • How do I make my DVD playable in DVD Studio Pro?

I never use to have problems with DVD Studio Pro until I got my new MacBook Pro.
I'm making a wedding DVD with a couple menus and projects and it seems to all work just fine.
I only encouter a problem when I go to check to DVD after it is done buring.
When I pop it in both a DVD player and the computer, nothing happens. It says the disk is unreadable or nothing at all happens.
I'm not sure what to do because I don't even know what is wrong.
DVD Studio Pro isn't telling me anything is wrong and that it is buring just fine.
I have also tried multiple different exported versions of my projects and nothing has imporved or even changed.
Any tips on how to make my DVD playable?

Did you do a build and format? If so, check out the contents of the TS folder.
Often people report similar problems and it turns out they inadvertently made an HD DVD…though I would think it should play in your Mac if that were the case. But check your settings nonetheless.
Are you doing the encode in Compressor?

  • Is it possible to export Final Cut Pro X or .MOV to DVD Studio Pro (Final Cut Studio)?

Is it possible to export Final Cut Pro X projects or .MOV to DVD Studio Pro (from Final Cut Studio v.3)? I'm using the free trial of Final Cut Pro X and later acquired a copy of Final Cut Studio (FCP 7, Compressor 3.5, DVD Studio Pro 4, Color 1.5, Motion 4, Soundtrack Pro 2).
I don't like the default DVD export in FCPX, so I would like to do it on DVD Studio Pro. Is it possible to export the project or the final .MOV file to DVD Studio Pro?
Additionally, can I use unfinished FCPX projects on FCP7?
Is it possible to export from FCPX to Compressor 3.5 (Final Cut Studio)?
Feedback would be greatly appreciated. As of this post, I have about 13 days left on my FCPX trial. Or would it just make sense to just use Final Cut Pro 7, since I have a permanent copy of it?
    Thank you.
P.S. Where would be the best place to store projects or any other file related to Final Cut Studio or Final Cut Pro X? My MacBook Pro has 320GB built in storage (only 60GB available), and I have a 1TB external hard drive.
What is best to store on the Macintosh internal hard drive?
What is best to store on the external hard drive?

Yes you can make DVDs in DVDSP using video exported from FCPX.
There are some apps that will translate between X and 7- that said I would highly recommend not going back and forth as the translations are not 1:1 perfect.
I would recommend storing all Events and Projects on the External drive.
Compressor 3.5 will not accept exports directly from FCPX- you'll need Compressor 4 which is $49.
Totally up to you whether you want to make the jump to X. 7 is an EOL'ed program, meaning there will not be another version of that application. Final Cut Pro X is the version being actively developed now.

  • Motion 3, DVD Studio Pro 3, Compressor...fail to display interface

Macbook Pro C2D, Leopard OS X 10.5.1. All apps were running perfectly before this happened...
First, all the apps of Final Cut Studio 2 crashed on startup.
I recall that the last thing I did is trashing the newly installed trail version Aperture.
After checking the crashing log, I found the problem comes from Prokit.framework. I did a thorough search, the answer is quite clear that the Prokit.framework comes with Aperture 1.5.2 is a PPC version, it replaced the intel version that was in my OS. So the solution is replacing the PPC version back to Prokit for Intel. Finally I found some provided download links of Prokit for Intel. BUT..
All the Prokit online are extracted with Pacifist from either Tiger OS disc or ProAppRuntime4.0.2.pkg(from apple's website). So they are either version 3.1 or version 4.0.2. After replacing my Prokit.framework with version 4.0.2, all my FCS 2 apps except Final Cut Pro (but Log and Transfer inside FCP 6) stopped crashing but failed to display any interface. But the icons are in the dock.
So finally I cleaned up all the files related to Final Cut Studio 2 and Prokit.framework and did a fresh reinstallation of FCS 2.
Same thing! No interface at all.
At this point, I doubt if the Prokit.framework in Leopard OS disc is different. It's too bad that I'm traveling for a project and my Leopard DVD is not in hand. So I asked a friend using Pacifist to extract Prokit.framework and Browser.framework from his Leopard DVD and sent them over. Now I found that they are indeed different. The one from Leopard is version 4.1. I did a replace again. Now, Motion 3, DVD Studio Pro 3 and Compressor start up, but with black windows and a few images, and the menu bars are really weird. I guess I should install this two framework with Pacifist instead of replacing them with the extracted folders?
The last resort I guess is to reinstall Leopard? My dilemma if I don't finish my project, I have no access to my OS DVD, but I need to use FCS 2 to finish the project.
Has anyone run into the same situation? Any enlightenment will be appreciated!

I have just installed Leopard ans having problems with DDVDSPRO crasshing, can you please expand on how i may install prokit.framework and Browerkit frame work with Pacifist. I am not an expert please bear in mind!!
    many thanks

Similar to the problems diagnosed in another thread - though they used the retail installation I think.

  • DVD Studio Pro won't burn disk

I have a DVD Studio Pro file that used to burn without a problem, but now it won't at all. I found all of the files necessary, but when I click the burn button, I get a warning:
The Build Location folder contains a VIDEO_TS folder(standard DVD content).  You must remove the VIDEO_TS folder from the Build Location in order to proceed with Build/Format of a HD DVD project.
I wouldn't know where to find this Build folder anyway. I am not sure what to do at this point.
    Can anyone shed some light?
    I have a 2010 2.66 GHz Macbook Pro Core i7
    Thanks!

Are you trying to build an HD DVD rather than a standard defintion DVD? I've never tried to build an HD DVD... does that format also use the VIDEO_TS structure?
A simple alternative to finding and removing the troublesome VIDEO_TS folder is to select a new location for the build -- an empty folder on your desktop, in your documents folder, wherever.
Or, if the contents and/or design of the disc hasn't changed since the last time you built it, find the current VIDEO_TS folder and use that to burn your disc rather than building it anew.

  • DVD Studio Pro DVD won't play in DVD player

I created a movie in Final Cut Pro 7, sent it to Compressor, and created a DVD using DVD Studio Pro.  When I try to play the DVD on my DVD player it says that it "can't play the disc."  The movie files from Compressor are "Sequence 1- Dolby Digital Professional 2.0.ac3" and "Sequence 1-MPEG-2 6.2Mbps 2-pass.m2v."  The project is set to SD DVD, being put on DVD+R discs, and I haven't had any warnings in the Log while creating the DVDs.
I've tried just using the "burn" button and also using "build & format" but neither work.  It will play on my Macbook, but I need it to play on the DVD player.  I also need to burn about 30 working discs in the next two days.  Please Help!!!!

You need to start a new DVDSP project for the setting to change from HD to SD.
    Good luck.

  • Please help! dvd studio pro 3/ m2v issues

    hi,
i have been attempting to burn a simple dvd for 9 hours now. i'm using dvd studio pro 3 on a macbook pro (OS X Tiger); the video assets comprising my dvd studio pro project are mpeg2 files. everything looks beautiful when i simulate the menu within studio pro. then when i build/format, the formatting fails every single time and gives me NO error code, nothing to go on - all it says is "formatting failed".
studio pro 3 can import and play the mpeg2 files, but not build/format the project with them - i'm wondering if this is an obvious compatibility thing with macbook pro. i know macbook pro can't read mpeg2 files on its own (much to my chagrin - a major flaw in my humble opinion but that's a different story) - like, if i were to try to play the file in the quicktime player. but, should i be having this problem when working with the mpeg2 files strictly within the software? final cut pro exported the files just fine, dvd studio pro accepted and can play them - is the dvd drive on a macbook pro unable to write a project with original assets in mpeg2 format even IF, theoretically, these should be encoded by the software prior to burning the dvd?
this is really time urgent as well, so any help would be much appreciated... thanks!

ah, thank you, the mystery about the studio pro 3 is somewhat solved. i've been having problems with it ever since i transitioned to the intel, but strangely it has worked about half the time so i didn't think it was unsupported altogether.
Nope officially unsupported and not to be used on Intel Machines (though of course once in awhile it will work properly, which is almost worse than never working )
i have tried building first then formatting; i have tried everything - formatting first, building/formatting, building first, etc. i have tried 2 different brands of media dvd-r. as for DL with proper layer break, i was reading a bit about that in another thread but i'm not sure what it pertains to exactly... nothing i've done is very complex and it's all been very DIY learn-as-i-go. so... not sure if i'm missing something there.
    thanks
Can you build the DVD? Or will it not even build? (Since it is not a DL do not worry about the layer break, sometimes if making DL DVD and there is no break found it can stall things out)

  • DVD Studio Pro keeps pixelating my footage

Despite clean source and no matter what I change out the "problem" clip with, there's a 10 second duration in the movie file that gets pixelated every time at the exact spot. Everything else on the DVD is fine.
I'm not sure how to describe this any better, so please feel free to ask questions to clarify any details.
Here are a few technical details about the project:
4.1GB being burnt to a 4.7GB, single layer DVD.
    One Pass VBR.
    Bit rates: 4.0 - 6.5
DVD Studio Pro 4 on a MacBook Pro
I've burnt several large DVDs with this same setup, without any problems. This one, I've burnt well over 6 times on various DVD-R brands.

    DV/DVCPRO NTSC (Compressor Quality: Best)
Try uncompressed 8 bit (takes up room, but worthwhile) Also make sure your sequence settings are BEST for scaling. If you used any renders for filters etc, you may want to delete the renders via Render Manager and re-render
I've used several variations for that 10 second duration. Everything from animated stills to untouched video. Nothing different than what's already on the DVD.
So this section is basically the same as all the rest in the video?
The running time is 96 minutes.
Definately A.Pack the audio, rough calculation is that the average bitrate can be about 6 (http://dvd-hq.info/Calculator.html & http://www.videohelp.com/calc.htm) with audio a.Pack/Dolby at 192
I just now switched the settings to Two Pass VBR.
Won't work on existing project properly (trying to change encodes in preferences), you are better off encoding outside of DVD SP then bringing it the encoded assets in.
Try just exporting the problem section and see if you can get a good encode for that, will save some times as oppossed to trying to encode the whole thing, take 30 seconds, 10 seconds on either side

  • Individual DVD Studio Pro 4

Is there any way to purchase/acquire just Dvd Studio Pro without the entire Final Cut Package? All my iLife programs are sufficient for what I am doing except for iDVD which isn't flexible enough. I have DVD Studio Pro 2 but it doesn't work on my current Intel MacBook Pro. If there is a way to get the isolated version would an educational discount be available?
    Thank you.

Unfortunately this is not possible. You'd have to buy the whole suite. I forget the exact educational price but it's not vastly cheaper than the retail version - the discount is only about $100 or so.

  • Is DVD Studio Pro 4 compatible with Snow Leopard 10.6.8?

Is DVD Studio Pro 4 compatible with Snow Leopard? Project burns fine, simulates fine, works on my two macs (mac pro & macbook pro networked) but when I put the dvd in to a dvd played hooked to a tv it doesn't recoginize it and says "this disc connot be played"!

It's your set top DVD player that won't play the disk...  That or it's the type of disk that you're using.
    Make sure it's a DVD-R.  That's a MINUS.
They pretty much work in all set top DVD players.
The reason your computers play the dvd's is simply because your computer knows what to do with all types of media.  Something else to consider could be the optical read capability on your computer is better than that of your DVD player.  Perhaps the DVD is a poor quality disk.  You computer can read it because it has a higher quality optical pickup unit.
First things first, take your DVD to a place that sells DVD players and try it in a new player.  That'll tell you whether or not the disk actually works.

  • Best Books on DVD STUDIO PRO?

Ive just got into DVD STUDIO PRO, and Im wondering if anyone knows of any good books on the subject. I did the Lynda.com tutorials, which were great but really basic. Im looking for more creative approaches. The ones I saw on Amazon had extremly low customer satisfaction ratings.
Did anyone read that article a month or so ago (in the new york times I think) about how people are getting reall creative making DVD menus these days?

MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

    Hi Kevin,
Sorry I can't recommend any DVDSPro books (haven't read any besides the manual), but I'm intrigued by this article you mention about "creative" DVD menus. If you find it again, can you post a link to it? If not, do you remember any examples of "creative" menus? I love trying different things and usually just figure them out on my own, but if there are some interesting concepts I haven't thought of yet, I'd love to hear about them (and try to duplicate them of course).
By the way, if anyone has any old books covering version 1.5 and would like to donate them (i.e., send them to me and be reimbursed for postage), please let me know. I have versions 2 & 3 and will probably be getting 4 eventually, but I most often use 1.5 -- I think I know it inside and out, but any books that might cover something I may have missed would be welcome.

  • DVD Studio Pro 4 gets stuck when attempting to apply a template

    Hello,
I'm experiencing a strange issue using DVD Studio Pro 4.2.0 installed along with the complete Final Cut Studio 2 suite. I'm creating a blank, totally new project, and try to apply one of the templates listed in the upper right-hand box:
The dialog "Applying template" appears, and I can see the bar moving/spinning, but it never goes away. The template background is displayed in the bottom of the scene, but nothing else happens, and the bar spins forever.
I'm using newest generation macbook pros 2,4GHz with Nvidia graphics under Tiger 10.4.10

After further investigation, it appears that I'm unable to create any shape on the menus (i.e. button shapes). Drag and drop of any pre-existing shape from the right-hand box has no effect at all.
Could this have anything to do with file system permissions?
