DVD Studio Pro Buttons

Is there a way to get rid of the edges on the buttons when they go to the selected and active states? I'm using the right arrow button but when I go to the selected and active state the button has rough edges or it seems that the button is showing the bottom layer? The arrow is gray but when selected i have the color set to black and I get white artifacts showing on the edges.
Any way around this?

Yes, you can solve it.
The problem is generated because the antialias in the graphic overlay file. To solve it, use the same overlay file (black and white) but change the Color settings to Advanced scheme for your menu buttons. Then choose the highlight color you want (i.e. yellow) to the black, dark and light grey keys, selecting 3 differents opacities. You can start with 15 (for black) , 10 (for dark gray) and 4 (for light gray).
Test your menu and your buttons must look great now. Yu can change the opacities values as you want to get the better result.

  • DVD Studio Pro - Button Combo question

For DVD Studio Pro, can someone give me a walkthrough on how to make a directional button combination unveil an Easter Egg?  I'd like to use the combination UP UP DOWN DOWN

    Make four buttons any size
Name them so you can keep track of what is what in authoring
Set movement options by clicking on the the button/advanced tab/navigation
If a direction(left, right, up, down) is set to not set nothing will happen when the user pushes it.
When the user pushes up for the first time you set the navigation to the second up button.
When the user pushes up for the 2nd time you set the navigation to the first down button.
This is why it is useful to have them named something besides button 1.
Make sure you check all of the navigation for each button to ensure the user can't go somewhere you don't want them to. DSP will auto set directions when you create the buttons.
As far as the unveiling part this depends on what it is unveiling. The second down button will go somewhere when the down arrow is pushed. Whether that is a menu, a track, or a chapter marker is up to you.
Also be aware that you can set a button to have an auto action so that it activates immediately when it is navigated to. You may or may not want this on the 2nd down button.

  • DVD Studio Pro- Button Font too light

Trying to put some text under buttons in a menu.  Text is controllable by font style and size, but I can't get off the blurry gray that seems to be a default.  Which is not good because I need a white Menu Background.  Tried Text under preferences, but stuck.

Oh boy, I know that was supposed to work, and trust me I was at that panel and tried.  How I resolved the issue was - or simply didn't know before - was that I had to double click on the top horizontal panel of the color pane (not the circle).  Only with the double click did it take.  I've seen and used this wheel hundreds of times before in FCP and never had an issue.
Thanks for the response. I accessed the color area via the Preference pull down, then Text

  • Dvd studio pro button problem

Hi, i have created my DVD with a menu, and use an arrow default button for each chapter of the DVD.
I have burned on my DVD and i notice a problem. in the menu, when I push a button, all the buttons disappears before the track start to play...
    how to solve that?
    thx a lot

Hi Jonathan, welcome to the discussions.
Yes - you certainly can put buttons over video in a track. It works by using the subtitle stream with start and end markers for the button duration. Look up 'Buttons over video' in the manual.
It is easy to set up, but there are reports of mixed levels of reliability with it.
The 1GB allowance in menus can be doubled if you use 4:3 menus AND 16:9 ones... but later versions of DVDSP allow you to move the menus into different spaces which helps avoid the 1GB limit.
Just so you know, the limit is actually formed because earlier versions of DVDSP insisted on all menus going into a single VOB when the disc is built. A VOB on a DVD can only be 1GB...

  • DVD Studio Pro Button Help

I created a video menu for my DVD in Final Cut and have imported it and I've put a button over the word "play" so that when you click on it, it will play the track. That's all worked but in the menu the word "play" fades in after a few seconds and with the color highlight on the button, there are a few seconds of the color button on the screen without the text. Is there any way to make the button show up on the screen when "play" fades in rather than have it show up immediately?

Yup. You need to understand how the 'Loop Point' works.
Basically, you add the footage to the menu, and then use the loop point marker to show when the words have appeared. When you add the buttons, they will appear (and be able to be selected, etc) once the loop point has been reached. From then on the menu will play, and as it loops (it will flicker an nothing will be able to be selected) it will return to this point, preventing the fade in each time.
You also need to consider what happens when you are watching a clip and press menu... do you go to the loop point, or should you see the fade in again? If the former, you have to add a simple script to your end jump. If the latter, just point the end jump at the menu.

  • DVD Studio Pro-Burn button not working

Hi there. I have video to hand in for class in like 6 hours so i'm in a tight spot here.
I'm running FCP 5 suite on a macbook pro 2.6 ghz intel duo. I've created my DVD just fine in DVD Studio Pro, but as soon as i hit burn, a dialog box comes up immediately saying "formatting successfull" and an "ok" button. Then nothing happens. it doesnt even prompt me for a disc to burn onto.
Please help if you have any ideas.
    Thank you,
    Rene

    Welcome to the Boards
Quick thing as a workaround to start:
Try to first build the project and see if it is building correctly (open up the folder in Apple DVD Player)
If so try writing to a disc image and burn that as here
    http://www.kenstone.net/fcphomepage/image_to_diskstone.html
Which version of DVD SP are you running? It looks like you may be running a non-Universal Binary version (if it is 4.0.x or lower it is non-Universal)
When you go to the build & format dialog is the burner showing up?
Also seems others ran into this

  • Button creation Adobe Encore vs. DVD studio pro (mac only)

I'm sitting here, trying to figure out what to do if you want to create a neat button with transparency quickly.
I remember my time at school where we used DVD Studio pro to create our DVD menues based on photoshop images.
Right now, I am trying to create a menu of that kind but guess what? I can't do it as easyly as it can be made with the other program NOT
designed by Adobe. But, what a shame, I have no mac to use DVD Studio pro -.-
Why isn't it possible to SELECT LAYERS of an image created with a program of the SAME COMPANY to represent the different status on
a DVD menu? It would be soooooo much easier. But no!
    "Solid colors only
Elements on these layers must use solid colors and sharp edges. Use one solid color per layer. Do not use gradients, feathering, or anti-aliasing on the subpicture layers. Color gradations are not possible in subpictures." (http://help.adobe.com/en_US/EncoreDVD/4.0/WS2CF5669B-310A-4fa7-A52F-7D01AB25A846.html#WS AC753DA7-21EF-464a-9FC0-8D873658D760)
It's not possible??? Why??? I could create a picture in Photoshop and, later, it would be on your TV just as you saw it already while creating it.
All the annoying prefixes would be needless, too!
Instead I get some ugly colour changes, I have just one colour for a layer (ridiculous!!!) or the writing even disappears for a reason I can't understand...
Encore is a very mighty program, but the button creation is a very nasty work. Like apple showed, There is a way that guarantees a very more easy way.
    Please revise this function!
Am I underskilled? Am I wrong? Please comment
    sincerely
    Elke Kolke

Actually, Button creation is easy in PS, and one can even populate a Menu with Library Buttons in Encore, and then edit them to suit in PS. This latter method saves having to do the Button Layer Set and Layer naming by hand.
    "Solid colors only
Elements on these layers must use solid colors and sharp edges. Use one solid color per layer. Do not use gradients, feathering, or anti-aliasing on the subpicture layers. Color gradations are not possible in subpictures." (http://help.adobe.com/en_US/EncoreDVD/4.0/WS2CF5669B-310A-4fa7-A52F- 7D01AB25A846.html#WSAC753DA7-21EF-464a-9FC0-8D873658D760)
This is a limitation of the DVD-specs. and not Encore/PS. One is bound to those DVD-specs. Sub-picture Highlights can ONLY be 2-bit color (either ON, or OFF, plus can have Transparency - think just the opposite of Opacity in PS). There are design ways to create the "illusion" that one has Sub-picture Highlights, that get past the DVD-specs., but those are only illusions. One is still bound to the DVD-specs. This ARTICLE might offer some tips on creating the illusion.
All the annoying prefixes would be needless, too!
Those "annoying prefixes" tell the DVD player how to handle the Buttons. Without those, the player has no clue that you have a Button, and will only display a static graphic.
Jeff Bellune has a great book, The Focal Easy Guide to Adobe EncoreDVD 2.0, Focal Press. Though it was written for an earlier version, 100% of that book still applies, because the DVD-specs. have not changed. He steps one through building custom Buttons in PS for use on a DVD. He also shares a ton of tricks to create illusions within the DVD-specs.

  • EyeTV markers as menu buttons in DVD Studio Pro?

As I am still pondering on buying or not DVD Studio Pro, I would like to know, whether the markers that I can apply to EyeTV recordings are maintained when I export the mpeg2 program stream for further use in DVD Studio Pro. When I export for Toast Titanium, Toast creates image menu buttons, but I cannot add any title or text to the button.

  • DVD Studio Pro 4.1 color/menu/button issues

I just got the latest version of Final Cut Studio with DVD Studio Pro 4.1 and am having issues with menus and buttons. For some reason no matter what I do to the color settings my menus are always gray and the buttons never reflect the color changes I make. Am I missing something?

Hi - welcome to the discussions!
Could you be a little more specific here... for example, when you say the menus are always gray, do you mean when you use the menu editor or after you have built a disc? Button colours are set in several ways... what is the workflow that you are using?

  • Livetype titles as buttons for DVD Studio Pro 4

made a title in Live Type that I want to use a button in DVD Studio Pro 4. Is there a tutorial, or can anyone tell me exactly what I have to do to import it and make it a button in DVDSP 4? When I try to import it and drop it on a menu, the button is small but the surrounding button box is big. When I try and make the letters bigger, the button box gets bigger as well.
All I want is to make just the letters bigger and not the whole surrounding box.
    Please help.
    Thanks in advance

    That's not funny.
No one posted because you can easily find the answer yourself in the DVDSP manual. Creating buttons for DVD menus is a complex operation if you want it to be. LiveType by itself is not appropriate for the task. LT will create some embelishments and animated fluff that you can use to augment the buttons you make in DVDSP. Scaling imported assets is covered extensively, if undecipherably, in the DVDSP manual.

  • DVD Studio Pro - is Subtitle button remote hardwired?

When I press the Subtitle button on my menu remote, is what appears on screen determined by the HARDWARE,  or can it be configured in the software?
For example, let's say I have English and French and Chinese subtitle streams on my DVD.
Can I display "Francais, Anglais, Chinoise"  on screen when the subtitle button is pressed on the remote,  or is it the hardware that totally determines what appears on screen?
I know that in DVD Studio Pro, you can have it jump to a specific menu you define when that button is pressed,  but I ant to change subtitles on the fly.
    thanks,

    Heya, Bansaw:
"Hardware" would be the closest answer.  It would be more accurate to say that the behaviour of the Subtitle button on a remote control is "spec" driven, meaning DVD spec.  If I remember correctly, you can expect the Subtitle button to show and hide the current subtitle stream.  There's a variable that sets the stream while the title is playing and that's what'll show until the stream is changed.  And, changing the stream is typically menu driven (you have a "Setup" menu, right?).
And, as RatVega™ mentioned, there's no guarantee that the DVD remote will even have the button.
While I've never tried it, you could probably code the number buttons to change the variable which would change the subtitle stream; however, the user would have no way of knowing that you've cutomized the title to play in this manner.

  • Buttons work in DVD Studio Pro, but not in DVD Player. Why?

I recently upgraded I movie I made to Dual layer disk. I had already built one for a standard 4.7 dvd but now I was putting on a director's commentary so I need more space. So I opened up the original DVD Studio Pro project, thats worked fine for over a year, then saved it as "director's commentary", then simply changed the settings for a Dual Layer. In DSP the buttons on the first menu work fine. But when I build it and open it up in DVD Player the buttons dont activate. Even when you roll over them there is nothing there.
    Whats happening?

You can find information on Reader Extensions on the developer center: http://partners.adobe.com/public/developer/livecycle/readerextensions/devcenter.html
For help with the buttons to navigate, go into Designer help and search for "Attaching a database script to a button" (without the quotes) and this should provide you with the information that you need.
Michael, is this where you found your information the first time?

  • I can't add buttons at DVD Studio Pro.

The function to create buttons at DVD Studio Pro 4.2.1 is not working.
I already used this function but now it stopped working. I reinstalled Final Cut Studio 2, but nothing changed.
    Can anybody help me??

Here are some steps to take to see if something is wrong with your DVD SP:
    1. Launch DVD SP. A new project will open with one menu and one track.
    2. Double-click the menu icon in the graphical display at the left of the screen. The menu will open in the Viewer with its default name: "Menu 1" at the top of the viewer. The Active tab at the top of the viewer should be: "Menu". Of course, with no background image the menu will be black.
    3. With the mouse pointer over the black menu in the Viewer, press and hold down the mouse button and drag.
    4. You should see a rectangle with little circles appear. When it is the size of a postage stamp release the mouse button.
    5. On your right, in the Inspector, you should see the default name of the button: "Button 1".
Do you get this on your system?

  • DVD Studio Pro 4.2.2 hangs when I go to burn a project

I was putting together a DVD and had it ready to go. Hit the button to burn and the formatting in progress window came up and started chugging away. I left for 15 minutes. When I got back I had the spinning beach ball and an "Unrecognized Device" error message. I've tried burning a different project that worked a few days ago and got the beach ball again. Also, now I can't open the DVD drawer. I had imported several projects from DVD shortly beforehand, so something I did with Studio Pro has caused this problem.
There were no weird files in the project. One main QT from FCP with chapter markers, 4 short QT (1 with audio) for the buttons, 4 stories so you can play each chapter by itself and return to the secondary menu, 2 menus. Everything worked fine in the simulator. Everything else in SP still works fine, I can start new projects, until I go to burn, then I get an instant beach ball.
    What I've tried:
Deleting render files from the project in the cache
    Repairing permissions
rebooting and holding down mouse  to get the drawer to open, no luck
When I press the eject button I do get the arrow icon on screen, but there is no noise or indication from the tray that anything is going on
I do see the drive in disc utility
DVD player won't let me eject, selection is grayed out
There is a blank disc in tray, so it doesn't show on screen to try dragging to trash
I am using an Intel quad core Mac with Snow Leapord and 12 G RAM, have to update profile
And I'm at a loss as to what to try next. Any ideas?

Seems to me that your DVD burner has died... it happens... The fact that you were using DVD Studio Pro is just a coincidence...  My old iMac and powermac G5 both had their DVD burners replaced.
Do you have AppleCare? Is it still in warranty? If so, take it in...

  • Using a .WMV file in DVD Studio Pro

    Hello All,
I'm so dangerously close to having this whole thing down, that the challenges are becoming excrutiatingly painful.
    I've completed my edit.
I've exported my FCP edit to Quicktime.
    I've downloaded Flip4Mac
I've exported a version of the FCP to a WMV file format.
Now I want to import both assets (QT and WMV) to DVD Studio Pro. I'm trying to make it so there are two seperate versions on the DVD.
As I attempt to link a button to the WMV file, I get the rainbow wheel turning, and it never stops.
So, I guess there are a few questions:
    1. How can I force the rainbow wheel to quit. Until now, I've just shutoff the computer (not a good idea).
    2. Is it possible to combine the QT and WMV files on the same DVD?
    3. Am I totally confused?
    Thanks.

She can't play it on her PC, nor can I at home.
Ussually it's a DVD player software matter. Windows Media Player is not intended for DVD playing. Did you use it when it failed? Try with the free and cross plataform VLC Player.
