DVD Studio Pro changes file sizes on import

I am trying to burn an SD DVD of a 1.62 Gb Quicktime video, but every time I import it the file size changes to 611 mb. and the resulting disc has very poor resolution  In the "Assets" list it indicates the file size is 1.62 Gb., but if I click on it and open Inspector the same file is listed as 611 mb., as does the Disc Meter after I move it to the timeline.  Encoding preferences are set to 2-pass VBR, Target rate 6.5, Max rate 7.7 Mbps.  On deadline, please help.

Take your movie into compressor and use the DVD presets to make an .m2v and an .ac3.  Bring these files into DVDSP to create your DVD with.

  • "file is not compatible when import assets in dvd studio pro, my file are .mov and .mp4, what is the problem?

i have a MacBook Pro v. 10.7.5, also have dvd studio pro 4.2.2
I have a file exported from final cut v. 7, using quick time movie option, it created a file with .mov. When I import to dvd studio pro, I have an error
message " file is not compatible". shall I export again using different parm? settings? thanks for the help in advance.

Thanks, Russ. I had my problem resolved by re-creating file from Final Cut using the "Video Format" as "MPEG-4 improved" instead of "H.264" before.
My orginial source is a dvd came from Taiwan, I used software 'Handbrake' to convert it to MPEG-4. Input to Final Cut to edit it. Exported out with H.264 as Video Format, wishing to improve the image quality but run into 'file impaitable' when import to DVD SP.
Now. I exported out Final Cut using the following parms, pictures quality is not bad.
    1. File format = MP4
    2. Image size= 1280x720 HD
    3. frame rate = 30
    4. video format = MPEG-4 Improved
hope this help people who might run into same problem. I never use the Compressor, will try it next time. thanks Russ.

  • DVD Studio Pro Crashes when trying to import file

    Hey all,
Hope you can help me because this is driving me crazy!
Whenever I try to import .ac3/.m2v files to DVDSP, the program crashes. The strange thing is that it is happening only when I try it on one particular file. I seem to be able to import anything else but the audio/video files I really need!  I've tried re-compressing, and re-naming the file, I've also tried importing the file on a different computer, but nothing seems to work.   I haven't tried reinstalling since it seems to work with other files and I've tried it on separate computers.
I'm using Final Cut 7 with Snow Leopard

In FCP, export the file in 4 different chunks.
In Compressor, convert each chunk to ac3/m2v.
    Import each chunk into DVDSP.
Do they ALL cause problems or is it only one chunk?
If only one chunk, there is something wonky with the video in that segment.
Divide it up and go through the same process until you identify the offending source video. Once identified you have a couple of options -
    1. Cut it out and try to stich the material around the hole.
    2. Try using Digital Rebellion's ProMediaTools to see if it can fix the problem.
    3. If the original media was in a different format, go back to the original media, reconvert it and replace the bad segment.

  • DVD Studio corrupts my file when I import it!

I have a wedding MOV file that plays great on my hard drive when I open it in Quicktime to view it.
BUT, when I import it into DVD Studio Pro, it 'corrupts' my audio. By 'corrupt' I mean that halfway through the audio de-syncs completely and starts from the beginning.
When I look at the track timeline view at the bottom, the length of the audio does not match the length of the video.:s
    Help!

Thats a good question, because I found out that its significant...
The MOV file was a 422 (HQ) 720x480. It was about 23Gb in size!
However, I have just made it as NTSC DV, about 10GB.
This imported OK into DVD Studio and now works.
Is there an issue with a file of 23GB size, or 422 codec, or an option somewhere that I can change. I found out that exporting as 422 from MOTION gives you better quality than NTSC DV, so thats why I am using it with most of my exports.
    Thanks,,

  • DVD Studio Pro: Compiler File Error

    Hi there,
I'm running DVD Studio Pro 4.2.1 on Mac OS X 10.5.8, and until now, I've been successfully burning DVD projects. But suddenly, when I try to burn a DVD, I keep getting a message stating that the "build failed" due to a "compiler file error." Any clue how to solve this? My sound file is a .ac3, and my video is a .m2v.
    Thanks!

It could be a number of things. Generally, you should try renaming your m2v and then re-importing it and setting it into the track it is in. Also, try trashing the PAR files (check your preferences for the location of these) which get created when you import an asset.
Finally, try simply re-encoding the footage and going from there (add a new name for it too...)

  • Help ! ever seen this in DVD Studio Pro : 'Compiler File Error' ?

    Help !
This is a strange problem :
Evertime I try to burn a disc, it says :
    Starting DVD Build DVD_
    Compiler File Error
    Build cancelled
    Formatting finished.
Building was not successful. See log.
Now I tried several different projects and it does it on multiple computers.
Only explenation would be something I did in my DVD menu, or assets.
If I burn it on my powerbook though, it works perfectly....
Harry Potter was busy, so please help me, I'm getting desperate...
Have the latest update, the latest OS, en DVD Studio Pro 4.2

    Welcome to the boards.
Take a look at the log as it is compiling and see where the compile stops/crashes. Also download MPEG streamclip and open up the last VOB in the build folder in MPEG Streamclip. (VOB ares here, you will have different VOBs of course and numbers but look at the last one that has something in it) http://dvdstepbystep.com/vts.php It will show you the last part was compiled properly so you can look at the asset in the DVD SP project.
    Some things to look for
1.) Gaps in the timeline in the audio or video. In fact I just had this happen. The project compiled fine in an older version of DVD SP (4.03) BUT would crash out at 4.2. Turns out there was a gap I had missed (doh!) somehow and cleaning it up would then cure then problem.
2.) Did you make the audio AC3? What rates were the video encode? High rates can cause the compile errors.

  • DVD Studio pro " Complier File Error"

MY DVD studio pro is no longer working, I get " Complier File Error " when I try to burn a disc. Will this have anything to do with using Mountion lion on my computor?  The DVD studio pro  works on my new pro mac. So what is wrong.
I did reload FCP 7 again and it uploads but will not work.
    Paul

It will help if you cansupply more details. Are you encoding in Compressor? If so,what are the presets? Please post a screenshot.
    Thanks.

  • DVD studio pro 4 font size

I have a book approved by apple that shows how to size the fonts. However, in my version, the fonts are already sized and I can only go from given to given. EG. 24, 36, 48.
How do I go to eg. 40 size font.

Thanks for the thought but that doesn't help. In my version ( 4.0.3) I highlight text, go to format, a menu drops down showing me the family, typeface, and a drop down window with the usable sizes. In that window I can only get the given sizes. eg. 9,10,12,14,18,24,36,48, etc. I cannot assign a different size.

these are the same m2v files I imported and burned into DVDs a couple months ago...and any new m2v files I create with Compressor...cause DVD Studio Pro to crash
DVD Studio Pro 4.0.3 will import old m2v files that I created a couple years ago using DVD Studio Pro 2 - and any new audio files created with Compressor and quicktime files from Final Cut Pro 5.
I have 1.5 GB of RAM...my drives are not too full...this was all working fine until recently and I can't see what has changed.

You can't download for the upgrade 4.1 is the Universal Binary and only part of the entire studio

  • IDVD and DVD Studio Pro

Is there a way to import a theme from iDVD into DVD Studio Pro? I want to use a theme on iDVD called Revolution, but in iDVD it only has one drop zone for pictures. I have seen this theme used with multiple pictures so there has to be a way to do it. I was wondering if you can somehow get that template into DVD Studio Pro for more customization options.

    Importing iDVD Projects and Themes:
DVD Studio Pro 4 can import projects from iDVD 3 and iDVD 4. You can import an iDVD theme by using the theme in a project within iDVD and importing the project into DVD Studio Pro. When creating the project within iDVD, you do not need to use the final assets or make a complete project.
Note: DVD Studio Pro will not import projects from iDVD 1, iDVD 2, and iDVD 5.
In general, iDVD needs to be installed on the same system as DVD Studio Pro. An exception is if you import an iDVD 4 archive project.
To import an iDVD project or archived project into DVD Studio Pro:
1 Do one of the following:
    • Choose File > Open.
    • Press Command-O.
2 Locate and select the iDVD project or iDVD 4 archive project in the Open dialog, then click Open.
DVD Studio Pro imports the iDVD project.
    About the iDVD Project Import:
When DVD Studio Pro imports an iDVD 3 or iDVD 4 project or iDVD 4 archive project, it has standard locations it looks for to find the assets and themes used in the project. This is especially important if the project uses custom themes.
The standard locations that DVD Studio Pro uses are (in this order):
    • iDVD project bundle: This is the file created when you save the project.
    • [user]/Library/iDVD/Favorites: This folder is located in your home folder.
    • [root]/Library/iDVD/Favorites: This folder is located at the root of your disk.
    • /Network/Library/iDVD/Favorites: This folder is on a network system specifically configured by your system administrator for this purpose. (This is not the same as having a server networked into your computer.)
    • iDVD application bundle: This is the iDVD application file that contains the default theme elements.
Note: When you create an archive project in iDVD 4, you can choose to include the themes and encoded files. For the best portability, you should include both options. This results in a larger archive file, but ensures you can take the file to any DVD Studio Pro system and import it without missing assets. If you do not choose to include the themes and encoded files in the archive file, those assets must be available in one of the standard locations. If your project will have automatically-created chapter index (scene selection) menus based on markers embedded in the video, it can be easier to create these within iDVD prior to importing the project into DVD Studio Pro. This ensures the chapter index menus use the selected theme’s background and include arrow buttons to navigate between the menus.
Important: To ensure all iDVD menu elements import correctly into DVD Studio Pro, you must navigate to each chapter index menu within iDVD before saving the project. This is also true for any menus you add to your iDVD project by clicking the Folder button.
    Issues With Importing iDVD Projects:
There are some issues to be aware of when you import iDVD projects:
    • If you import an iDVD project with DVD-ROM content, DVD Studio Pro does not update the settings in the Disc Inspector’s General tab to reflect the DVD-ROM content. You must manually select the DVD-ROM layout and choose the folder to include.
    • When you create a slideshow in iDVD, you can add arrow buttons to each still to provide viewers with an additional method of jumping to the previous and next stills. These arrow buttons are not imported when you import an iDVD project into DVD Studio Pro. The viewer must use the Previous and Next buttons on the DVD player’s remote control to jump between stills.
    • The button highlights used in iDVD may look different when imported into
DVD Studio Pro. In most cases, the text in the buttons is set to be included in the highlight. Additionally, buttons that use an underline in iDVD will not have an underline when imported into DVD Studio Pro.
    • When you import an iDVD project, you may find that the button that is highlighted by default on some menus changes. During the project import, DVD Studio Pro numbers the buttons on each menu and highlights button 1 by default. You can assign any button on a menu to be the default button in the Menu tab in the Menu Inspector.
    • If you import an iDVD project that contains a drop zone configured as a slideshow and has multiple slides assigned to it, DVD Studio Pro only shows the slideshow’s first slide in the drop zone.

  • Slight pixellation on faces at end of DVD after burning in DVD Studio Pro. Can you help?

I am appealing to those much more expert than myself. I have burned a DVD of my short film in DVD Studio Pro.
Original file: Apple Pro Res 422 HQ (PAL 25fps)
I put this into Compressor: Best quality DVD 90 mins.
Then I imported this in DVD Studio Pro and burned a DVD
The DVD looks great until the end where the faces start to go pixellated in an outdoor scene every second or so for a second.
The thing is that this only suddenly started to happen. I had originally done the compression and burned dvds and it all looked fine, but then suddenly when I burned some extra DVDs I noticed this had happened. I recompressed the files, and it had the same problem in exactly the same place. (The original file doesn't have this problem.)
The thing is that in between I had made a new separate DVD Studio Pro project in NTSC and imported my compressed 29.97fps Apple pro res file of the film. I'm not sure how this would have affected the original PAL project or if this has anything to do with it!
When I originally burned the PAL DVDs I also did a second version where I exported from FCP a PAL QT of the film 720x576 and then imported this into DVD Studio Pro and let DVD Studio Pro do the rest of the compression. I am trying this again to see if this makes any difference.
    Any advice?

Hi Christina, thanks for this. I am a bit confused exactly how many and where to put.
You see the shot in question is a static two shot. It is used several times in the scene, but the only place I have a problem is the final time we see the shot. It is at the end of the shot and over the final 13 seconds, the faces pixellate slightly every now and then for like a frame. How many compression markers should I put in do you think?
    Thanks again for your help.

  • First few video frames 'stuttering' and then DVD Studio Pro hangs

Hi, I wonder if anyone can assist me with this problem...
I've been using Final Cut Studio for some time, with no issues with DVD Studio Pro. Now, whenever I import video assets into DVD Studio Pro, and then run simulate to see how the video will look, the first few frames of the video appear to 'stutter' and then jam on the screen; the audio keeps running fine.
Eventually DVD Studio Pro hangs-up and I have to use Force Quit to get out. If I don't simulate but just go-ahead with burning a DVD, the program still hangs.
When I view the same video in Quicktime, it's fine so it does not appear to be the video file...
Has something gone wrong with DVD Studio Pro, with it's preferences or something else? Any advice on what I should do? I can no longer burn DVDs because of this!
    Thanks.
    PowerMac G5 2GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.3)   4.5 GB RAM

That's the problem, I can't get to the stage of actually building a DVD. I've attached assets, go to burn, and then the program hangs. If I view the video in simulate, it see that the few few frames are not advancing, just sort of hanging there, repeating pver and over, then it hangs. Viewing the video in QT it seems fine.
Help! Anyone seen this problem? What should I do, I have to burn a DVD for Monday! Thanks.

  • Film Export problem - DVD Studio Pro 4!

I have a problem when exporting my dvd as .img file.
The protokoll says (in german): Achtung: Die Datei „NAME-MPEG-2; 6,4 MBit/s; 2-Pass; 4/3.m2v“ im VIDEO_TS- oder HVDVD_TS-Ordner ist auf der fertiggestellten DVD nicht enthalten.
means the original file is not included. what can i do?
In my dvd studio pro document all data is imported and green light.
    Need help!

It is probably a standard warning message to say that the file is not included in the video_ts folder - which is quite alright... you don't want that in there. When the video_ts folder is created it should only contain .vob, .bup and .ifo files. Anything else is technically 'illegal' to be contained there, and will be omitted.
Does your burn complete? Can you play the disc?

  • AAC audio file increase in size when imported into DVD Studio Pro

    Hello all!
I just encountered a very unique issue with the DVD Studio Pro. I used the compressor to export my video as an MPEG2 file and my audio as AAC file. After the compression my audio file had an .mpg4 extention and was about 160MB in size. When I imported it into my DVD Studio Pro project, however, the audio increased in size to 1.2 GB. I tried so many different compressions, but the problem really is (I think) that the file bumps up in size once imported into DVD SP project. Is there anything in preferences that I need to adjust or change? Please help!
    Thank you.

    Hi
I'm a little lost now with versions history, but if you have A.Pack in your App folder, then must use it. Check this tutorial: Encoding AC3 with A.Pack.
Compressor 2 and 3 has AC3 encoding inside the main application.

  • Importing IMovie File into DVD Studio Pro 4

I used to be able to import the index file from an IMovie project into DVD Studio Pro quite happily.
Today the application freezes on the import progress window, with no files appearing in the asset window.
I have to force quit the application to get out of it.
Can anyone advise how to resolve this issue ?
    Power Mac G5 - Dual 2GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.2)

If you haven't changed anything on your system, then it would appear that you have one of two things.
Most likely, your preference files have be come corrupt, or second, your Application or application resource file for DVD SP have become damaged.
Try first to toss your DVD SP preferences, if this doesn't do it, then you should uninstall DVD SP and then reinstall with all of the updates before trying again.
If you have tried creating a new project from scratch and the problem persists, then read on.
If that doesn't do it, then there's a very slight possiblility, that there may be an issue with the QucikTime files of the OS, and keep in mind, (this is a very remote possibility) you may have to wipe the drive and reinstall the OS and apps. from the original disks, but only after everything else fails, (THIS IS A DRASTIC LAST DITCH EFFORT.)
