DVD Studio Pro disk space problem

Hi, I'm using DVD Studio Pro 4 (Academic) and getting this error when I try and burn a DVD:
Insufficient disk space for encoding. Please free up disk space on your encoding target drive
The target drive has 360 gigs + disk space so I don't know why I'm getting this error. I've changed the Preferences > Destinations drive to match the target drive and am still getting the error. How can I fix this?
thanks
Scott

Hm I think I figured it out, the drive that contains the actual MOV file is almost full. I guess I need extra space on that drive, not the "target" drive. Moving that MOV file to a different drive seemed to fix the problem.

  • Please Help!!! DVD studio Pro Aspect ratio problems!

Please Help!!! I am using DVD studio Pro (Ver 4.1.0) to make a dvd using SD DV format 4:3 videos. After I burn the dvd and play the dvd on my 4:3 televison the video does not fill up the whole screen of the television, and also when I Simulate the DVD in Studio Pro it does not fill up the whole simulation screen (however the simulation screen is in 16:9 ratio and I also do not know how to change it to a 4:3 simulation screen). Can anyone please help me My family really wants the family videos but I cannot send them videos that look bunched up on the TV, I want it to be perfect!!. Thank you so much in advance for any help/advice, Darin.

Hi and wellcome to the forums !
Check if your tracks are set to Display Mode 4:3.
however the simulation screen is in 16:9 ratio and I also do not know how to change it to a 4:3 simulation screen
While simulating look for the Display Mode settings in the left lower corner of the Simulator.
I want it to be perfect!!
I think that's too much for these forums !
    Hope that helps !

  • DVD Studio Pro 4 Slideshow Problem

    Hey
I just made a DVD for a client, with his reel, and a slideshow of his portfolio. The Slideshow is composed of 52 images, each 1.5 seconds long, with a lens flare transition, accompanied by a track of music.
I just got word from him that the slideshow jams up on regular DVD players, by plays fine on a Mac.
Any idea what I could do to avoid this problem? Is it the transition?
    -Steve!

Not sure exactly how the combined bitrate of the audio and video will wind up when DVDSP encodes all the dinky little mpeg assets for this slideshow, but if the disc pauses, breaks up, or stops, and not always in the same place, a spike in the bitrate might cause this issue.
Also, 1.5 seconds is pretty close to the minimum gap between chapter markers, and the player might be choking on the GOPs.
A couple things to try -
Change DVDSPs encoding prefs to lower the bitrate - usually the default is low enough to avoid exceeding the maximum, but if you are using PCM audio, this might help. I have also heard that changing the "Final Rendering" setting in the Menu pane of the prefs panel can result in more robust encoded material from within DVDSP.
Convert the Slideshow to a Track. Conceivably, the resulting VTS on the disc should be the same, and the onlny difference should be the way you work with this element in DVDSPs abstraction layer, but there may be something about the way DVDSP is encoding the material and building that VTS that might be improved by converting it to a track.
    Hope this helps -

  • DVD Studio Pro 4 disk

    Hi,
I am installing the Final Cut Studio group of DVDS in my Powerbook G4. Everything was fine until after Apple Loops and it told me to install the DVD Studio Pro disk. The disk appears for a micro second and then ejects, not installing. Is there a solution for this? I made room in my powerbook by transferring and erasing some files so there are 31 gigs available so lack of space can't be the problem. I also installed 2 gigs of RAM yesterday. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Does the disc mount and stay mounted if you insert it while not in the install process?
Have you carefully wiped the bottom the disc with a clean, dry, soft cloth to remove finger prints?

  • DVD STUDIO PRO 4 TEMPLATES QUALITY

Is there anyone out there that uses DVD Studio Pro 4 without problems. When using the templates both the text and stills are grainy or pixelated. As a test I created a movie and stills in FCP imported them into DVDSP, the movie quality superb, the text and stills for the menus - rubbish. I then used the same content in iDVD - perfect menus. It is really annoying when you invest in Pro software and the results aren't as good as you get with a freebie!
Is there something obvious I am doing wrong?

Can't tell from your post if you're looking at your DVDSP project on your Mac or you have finished the project, burned the DVD, and are watching it on a tv set top box.
To answer your first question, yes, I have no such issues with DVDSP4, I use some of the templates but not many, I usually change the typefaces, though. I have never used iDVD so I can't tell you if the results are superior in that product.

  • Save subtitles created in DVD Studio Pro as a new .txt or .srt file

I just did the authoring of a 52mn documentary with 4 subtitles tracks, we received from the translator .srt's files which we imported with no problem in DVD Studio Pro. The problem is that there was a lot of mistakes and badly timed texts due to the poor work of the translation cie. We had to edit the subtitles and it was very easy in the subtitles editor in DVD studio Pro...Now I have to do a master of the film on beta num and i want to provide to my post production cie a QT file of the movie + a .stl of the subtitles we edited within DVDSP : How can I export the text from the subtitles track to create a new .srt, without having to do it manually which is very time consuming
    Hope i'm clear !
    please amigos, help me !

You can export an Item description of the track with the subs in which you have corrected and use Subtitle Xtractor
    http://www.truevision-video.de/
It's a free program and can take the Item Description and as the name implies extract the subtitles and create an STL file. Very handy
There was another utility called Subtitler that did this but don't think it's available anymore

  • Missing DVD Studio Pro 4 templates, shapes, etc...

I recently had a hard drive meltdown, and had to install a new internal HD. I reinstalled all my software and everything works great except DVD Studio Pro 4.0.3
I've tried re-installing three times and no matter what I do, all default templates, shapes, text, and buttons are missing.
I'm still running on OS X 10.4, so it's definitely not an issue with Leopard.
Does anyone know what is going on? I even updated and they still won't show up.
Is there anyway to re-install these missing elements?
    PLEASE HELP!

SOLUTION: After an unbelievable number of hours trying to resolve this "missing templates" situation with DVD Studio Pro 4.2 I finally found the problem (bug?). The choose feature in "preferences" is broken. Apple's instructions tell us to go to the preferences, Destinations, Palette Elements, and set the following path:/Library/Application Support/DVD Studio Pro which, as you probably already know, does not work. Reinstall doesn't work either. Nothing works.
    This is what DOES work.
You need to MANUALLY enter the "drive name" into the selection box "after" you have selected the correct location, i.e. after I made my selection the following came up in the entry box, /Library/Application Support/DVD Studio Pro. The problem is that the "choose" process did not automatically include the drive name. After adding the name, in this case, "Boot 1," the entry box then read, Boot 1/Library/Application Support/DVD Studio Pro. Everything loaded and remained in place. After I restarted DVDSP to reassure myself it was working and found everything to be OK, I went to the preferences and to my dismay I found the entry had changed to:
/Library/Application Support/DVD Studio Pro/Apple. NOTICE, I did not have "/Apple" in my original destination and the entry I made, "Boot 1," was conspicuously missing. I recall previously trying the path with "/Apple" included and it wouldn't work. The only thing that made a difference was adding the drive's name. I hope this helps everybody with this problem.

  • Is this now where to ask DVD Studio Pro questions?  If not, please let me know where.  Here's my question:  Using DVD Studio Pro 3, when trying to burn a disc which is 4.5GB, I get error message "Not eough disk space in target folder".  What to do?

Thanks.  Unfortunately, I need to make a master DVD that can then be duplicated in bulk as a single layer disc.  This surprises me because I tried burning a different DVD project that has worked in the past which is also 4.5 GB and now I could not burn that either.  I also reencoded some material to get the new project down to 4.4 GB but it still would not burn.  Any ideas are appreciated.

  • DVD Studio Pro 4.o Install Problem

I had trouble installing FCP Studio on a MBP. Disk space is no problem; I set installer to put the loops and templates on a clean, new 300 Gb drive, and main drive has 40 Gb free.
The installer keeps hanging on the portion where it states it is writing the DVD Studio Pro Templates. The first time, the progress bar got to 100%, but did not move for 30 minutes, and both the nottom buttons are greyed.
I did a force quit, tried from beginning (skipping components that did get upgraded), and this time it just stopped at 98%.
For the third try, I had to skip everything related to DVD Studio Pro, and the installer got to the end of its work ok.
Not sure what I am missing- I have on my remote drive:
    Library/Application Support/DVD Studio Pro/Apple/
    Patches/
    Shapes/
    Styles/
    Templates/
with content in all 4 directories.
It's not critical as I have no immediate needs for pressing DVD titles, but only expect difficult installers when I have to boot in XP

No Joe, but I've not really tried anything. I have no immediate need for DVD Studio. I thought I maye have had a bad disk but if you have the same issue it might be a problem with the installer script.
I was installing these on an external drive, bot sure if that is a factor.
    Hopefully Apple reads these forums...

  • Problems downloading the new DVD Studio Pro update.

    Hi Everyone,
    I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem/message when trying to download the new DVDSP update?;
'You appear to have already downloaded the DVD Studio Pro update.'
This also happened on the last updates that were released.
There is a workaround that I know of that I had to use last time but it seems strange that this is occuring. Has anyone else had any issues with this update (or the last for that matter)?
Any help would be greatly appreciated as Apple Tech would not help me because I am on a Volume Licence and the Apple Store that I purchased it through has not given me any help.
    Thanks
    Carlo

I can get around this problem by using software update to download the updates and then use the downloaded file to update the machines but I would really like the ability to download the updates as a standalone dmg file.
I am running 20 systems on an airport network that will freeze up if I do the updates online the best i can do is 3 at once to avoid serious lag.
Being able to download them seperately was always my first choice so i could update the machines regardless of being conected to the net or not. The workaround that I am using only downloads the package file and it seems there is the possibility of them being corrupted or damaged over time (moving from server to drives to media to computers etc).
I still want to know why it thinks I have downloaded them already, it doesn't make any sense.

  • I can't burn a dvd using any method, Idvd tells me that my super drive is missing, dvd studio pro quits when i click burn and disk utility keeps spitting the disk out when i click burn and enter the disk??? how do i repair my superdrive for imac

I can't burn a dvd using any method, idvd tells me that my super drive is missing, dvd studio pro quits when i click burn and disk utility keeps spitting the disk out when I click burn and enter the disk??? how do i repair my superdrive for imac, or how do I do whatever I need to do to get it working: I have already tried using a lens cleaning cd and also restored my nvram or something i forget what it was called but i restarted my computer holding down  command+optoion+p+r and still nothing???
Free solutions are the best, although if I have to pay I will, I would prefer to not have to buy an external burner if possible and already know that is an option so please don't give me that answer... thank you for any help you can give

Unless your iMac is still covered by AppleCare, get an external DVD burner.
You can get perfectly good ones from Amazon for less than $40.

  • Aspect ratio problem in Windows Media Player for DVD from DVD Studio Pro

So I made a DVD with DVD Studio Pro and it looks good in Apple's DVD Player, on an Insignia DVD player appliance and on Playstation 2. Both the movie and the deleted scene were 16:9 from camera to Final Cut Pro and they show that way in all these players.
But on Windows Media Player for Windows XP, the program thinks the movie is 4:3 and the deleted scene is 16:9. Nero's Showtime has the same exact behavior, but at least you can force aspect ratio on Nero.
Besides being longer, the movie is different from the deleted scene in that the movie was originally out of Final Cut Express on an older Mac and it was encoded big endian. The deleted scene was output from Final Cut Pro and encoded little endian. I didn't think it would make a difference, but I tried outputting the movie from Final Cut Pro on the newer Mac and it did come out little endian. I took that into DVD Studio Pro, got rid of the old VIDEO_TS folder and re-built the project, burnt a new DVD. Then I went back to Windows and...
...the same exact problem. Some of the people I give this DVD to will be using Windows Media Player to view it, which is why I want this to not be an issue at all. What am I overlooking?

Look, everyone here (who each have been creating DVDs for over a decade) is telling you the same story. WMP is buggy. Everyone in the industry knows that. Hardware manufacturers like Dell and HP, know that. Why don't you use the DVD player program that they put on the hard drive? Sure one "Hollywood" title works. Did I mention that WMP is buggy? Test a thousand titles, and I'm certain that you will find some discs have problems on WMP, and WMP alone. (And it isn't my assertion that Hollywood DVDs have issues in WMP, everyone is telling you that.) No one has a solution for this, except to not use WMP. Let me repeat once again, no one has a solution for this except to not use WMP. It is impossible to add any sort of programming to the disc that will detect which player is being used to play the disc and compensate for the problems of that player.
Let me put it this way, if you have a disc that plays fine on Zeus's device, and on Apollo's device, and on Hera's device, and on Hermes' device, and on Artemis' device, but you have problems with Athena's device, then logically, Athena's device has a problem... not the disc. Your own experience has proved this to be true. If you were having problems with every device used, THEN you could rightfully say that there is a problem with the disc.

  • DVD Studio Pro won't burn disk

I have a DVD Studio Pro file that used to burn without a problem, but now it won't at all. I found all of the files necessary, but when I click the burn button, I get a warning:
The Build Location folder contains a VIDEO_TS folder(standard DVD content).  You must remove the VIDEO_TS folder from the Build Location in order to proceed with Build/Format of a HD DVD project.
I wouldn't know where to find this Build folder anyway. I am not sure what to do at this point.
    Can anyone shed some light?
    I have a 2010 2.66 GHz Macbook Pro Core i7
    Thanks!

Are you trying to build an HD DVD rather than a standard defintion DVD? I've never tried to build an HD DVD... does that format also use the VIDEO_TS structure?
A simple alternative to finding and removing the troublesome VIDEO_TS folder is to select a new location for the build -- an empty folder on your desktop, in your documents folder, wherever.
Or, if the contents and/or design of the disc hasn't changed since the last time you built it, find the current VIDEO_TS folder and use that to burn your disc rather than building it anew.
