DVD Studio Pro - Final Cut X

so, if one purchases final cut x and sells off their final cut suite 3 with DVD Studio Pro, how does one do a professional DVD authoring?  that is, what is everyone doing to author DVD's that they make in Final Cut Pro then compress using Compressor or just import right into DVD Studio Pro?
i actually didn't like this product (DVD Studio Pro) when it came with my Final Cut Studio 3, preferring to keep with my former Avid based product, but after someone showed me how to use it, i fell in love with the thing and DON'T want to be without it although I'd like to sell my MacPro with FCS3 included in the purchase price when i put it on eBay.
hope i can get some help because this is ALL that is holding me up from doing the APP store puchases of the new FC products and getting my new MacBook Pro i7 machine.

QUOTES...
Ian R. Brown wrote: Have you tried iDVD which is quite a fantastic app?  Otherwise if you want to stay legal you will have to keep FCS3.
tjwaldo wrote:  No, iDVD is not a fantastic app.  It's a consumer app.  I don't understand the concept that if a client received DVDs from all sorts of video editors with the same theme how that could possibly be considered professional?.....
RESPONSE...
so far i would have to agree that iDVD is a neat app, great for family video's, some customization maybe, but the few times I've tried it AND the DVD's ive gotten from competitors or collaborators who use it exclusively, i guess in part i know why people have picked my performance result with DVD SP.  ive had clients even tell me, "i hate your delivery and your continual excuses and delays in delivery, but your qualty is two heads above everyone else so we have to keep using you, can't you do something about better delivery?"
so admittedly im a procrastinator but in the end, the result ive found in DVD SP is heads above anything ive personally tried BUT admittedly also, i don't look around a lot for other products when i find a winner.
now on fcp x, if it delivers as good an output as final cut pro 7, and with all the bells and whistles in fcp x, i have to say i WANT all that ease, magnetic performance, and built in GREAT looking titler and color grading, let alone auto motion control.  im sold on fcp x ... NOW THAT ... it has multicam, importing of fcp 7 projects, and well . . im just sold BUT without DVD authoring its a bust for me.  99% of the projects i do are DVD delivery and now fastly BluRay delivery (about 5-10% at the moment) and thus i HAVE to have not just a DVD authoring program but one with all the bells and whistles that do almost anything and everything that i want . . and . . together with Compressor, i'm just shy of in editor heaven.  however, i AM going to go to fcp x if for no other reason (now that multicam is included) rendering, ease of turning down the rez for editing only then render out full rez, and ease of importing canon 5dm2 and 7d footage as compared to final cut pro 7's ... hmmmmmm ... 3 different ways (or more) and even then not knowing if i picked the right one.
so as "tjwaldo" indicated, unless there is some other totally professional option, i guess i'll keep my fcs3 whether i want to or not  just for ONE APP ... DVD SP because i won't take anything less than that kind of control and customization :-(
my appreciative thanks to both "Ian R Brown" and "tjwaldo" for the great input . . any others??

  • Is it possible to export Final Cut Pro X or .MOV to DVD Studio Pro (Final Cut Studio)?

Is it possible to export Final Cut Pro X projects or .MOV to DVD Studio Pro (from Final Cut Studio v.3)? I'm using the free trial of Final Cut Pro X and later acquired a copy of Final Cut Studio (FCP 7, Compressor 3.5, DVD Studio Pro 4, Color 1.5, Motion 4, Soundtrack Pro 2).
I don't like the default DVD export in FCPX, so I would like to do it on DVD Studio Pro. Is it possible to export the project or the final .MOV file to DVD Studio Pro?
Additionally, can I use unfinished FCPX projects on FCP7?
Is it possible to export from FCPX to Compressor 3.5 (Final Cut Studio)?
Feedback would be greatly appreciated. As of this post, I have about 13 days left on my FCPX trial. Or would it just make sense to just use Final Cut Pro 7, since I have a permanent copy of it?
    Thank you.
P.S. Where would be the best place to store projects or any other file related to Final Cut Studio or Final Cut Pro X? My MacBook Pro has 320GB built in storage (only 60GB available), and I have a 1TB external hard drive.
What is best to store on the Macintosh internal hard drive?
What is best to store on the external hard drive?

Yes you can make DVDs in DVDSP using video exported from FCPX.
There are some apps that will translate between X and 7- that said I would highly recommend not going back and forth as the translations are not 1:1 perfect.
I would recommend storing all Events and Projects on the External drive.
Compressor 3.5 will not accept exports directly from FCPX- you'll need Compressor 4 which is $49.
Totally up to you whether you want to make the jump to X. 7 is an EOL'ed program, meaning there will not be another version of that application. Final Cut Pro X is the version being actively developed now.

  • Dvd studio for final cut pro x?

    Hi to all!
I have Final Cut Pro X (latest version),  I'm aware is that there is lack of customised DVD authoring within FCPX,  as I'm being told to export to iDVD, but iDVD has limited capacity for me to edit the menu as not brilliant as Adobe Encore (As I dont have Adobe Premiere Pro as I'm FCPX fan!).
Will the engineers at Apple have a plan to develop DVD authoring client within FCPX family - like Compressor 4, Motion 5 - in the pipeline?  If they do, then it would be fanstatic,  as Apple doesn't seemed to be customer services friendly as they dont reply to my emails?
    Any response you guys please?
    thanks  Ryan

My guess is that if HD DVD had won the High Def disc war Apple would not be in such a rush to dismiss optical media.
Apple placed all their bets on HD DVD and Blu-ray finally emerged as the winner. Consequently, It appears that Apple has decided that optical media should not exist.
It seems a little radical and premature to me.
In my opinion Optical media is still a valid and viable way to move and store large amounts of data. It's also a perfectly viable format for entertainment media.
I still back up redundantly to DVD or blu-ray. It gives me peace of mind to know that I have my data stored on a medium that is not prone to the same forms of failure as spinning magnetic discs.
Downloading huge operating systems and applications that monopolize ones bandwidth and time for hours if not days seems like an unnecessary burden to place on the user base.
Maybe if thumb drives become cheap enough Apple and other companies will offer the option to purchase software on tiny removable media for a small additional fee.
Otherwise we all better hope that internet bandwidth and speed go WAY up at an affordable rate. (and everybody has access to it)
Will optical discs eventually be irrelevant some day? OF COURSE!
But not yet. And certainly not as a knee jerk reaction to loosing a format war.

  • DVD Studio Pro Cutting off My Text

DvD Studio Pro is cutting off the text when I have created a menu in Photoshop 8.o I read that DVDSP 4 renders text differently than 3.o but I haven't been able to solve this problem in my text menus.
Has anyone else come across this?

though DVDSP will sometimes support text layers in photoshop files, it' a good practice to flatten or rasterize those layers in a copy of your photoshop file before importing to DVDSP. I recommend using the photoshop templates for video frame sizes - they will use th correct pixel aspect ratio, and include guides for title safe.

  • Video quality bad when compresed from final cut pro to dvd studio pro. HELP

    Hello,
I have a dvd project im working on and first i tried the video that i captured from final cut to just use in dvd studio pro but that didnt work. then i used the compressor and used the 60min high quality video and that looks even worse. what do u suggest i do?

You must get to know what these settings do to be able to use Compressor. Try using a 10 second test of your video file and encoded at different settings to get a feel for how compression works.
Min 4 and peak at 7, a difference of 3 between min and peak is a good start at CBR, but you must test.
Just like using a video camera, if you use the same exposure setting all the time, most of your pictures will be unuseable, either too dark or too light.

  • Can i install Final cut studio 5 and DVD Studio Pro 4 on OSX lion

Is any body who can help me on giving me some direction on how to install Final Cut Studio 5.1 and DVD Studio Pro 4 on my OSX Lion, if it's doable. Thanks

The easiest way is to install Rosetta from a Mac OS X 10.6 DVD first.
There's also a way of doing it via Terminal that's been posted here a couple of times. A search should bring that up.

  • How do I obtain DVD Studio Pro....Only in $1,299 version of Final Cut Pro?

I am new to the Mac world. I have been doing some video editing and DVD authoring on a PC using Easy Media Creator and Nero. I wanted to be able to create more professional looking productions so I purchased my iMac. I have used the iMovie app but it seems very 'limited'. I was told that DVD Studio Pro is what I needed for DVD authoring.
Do I need to purchase the $1,299 version of Final Cut Pro in order to get this software? I have not been able to find it as a solo purchase item.
    Any assistance is greatly appreciated...

Apple hasn't offered that as a standalone product since January 2006. You may want to look at third-party software.

  • How can i get my Imac, running OSX 10.6.8 with a 2Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo, how can i get Final Cut Pro 4 and DVD studio pro 2 to run on it?

I just bought an IMAC running OSX 10.6.8 (not sure what flavor that is). The processor is 2Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo (Late 2006). When i run Final Cut Pro 4 on it I get the following error.
                        "Configuration error
This software requires certain hardware or software which is missing
                                    * AGP graphics Card"
If Final Cut Pro 4 doesn't run on my system, what version of Final Cut can I run on this as I am a filmmaker and really am comfortable with Final Cut Pro.
On the same note I also have DVD studio Pro 2 and that just quits without any message.
Hope any of you can be some help.
    Thank you,

Thats my biggest confusion. Help Me...

  • Export markers from Final Cut Pro X to DVD Studio Pro

    Hello,
After finding out how to create chapters via markers in Final Cut Pro we wonder how to export these markers to DVD Studio Pro without having to create ourselves a .txt file and writing the names and the times of the markers in it to export it to DVD Studio Pro. Isn't there a way to make this happen automatically?
Unfortunately the new version of Final Cut Pro doesn't have an export to Quick Time Player and this is why this kind of solution falls out and we really need to create the markers first in Final Cut Pro and not directly in DVD Studio.
    Is there a solution?
    Thank you.

At present, you cannot add chapter markers in FCP X.
If you send the project to Compressor, you can add chapter markers there, or you can add them in DVD SP.
You can add the chapter markers in Compressor or DVD SP manually, or if you create a text file listing the exact timecode positions (from FCP X storyline) where you want the chapter markers to be (each on a new line) Compressor (or DVD SP) will automatically insert the markers when you point it to the text file.

  • Exporting from Final Cut Pro for DVD Studio Pro

In the recent DVDs I've made, the quality seems lower than it has before. I don't think I've changed anything, but I was wondering what is the best format to export a clip from Final Cut Pro and the best way to encode those clips in DVD Studio Pro. Thanks for all your help!
    Erin

The best and only format is mpeg2/m2v.
The encoding rate for video is based on the length of the sequence in h/m/s.
They should not be encoded in DVDSP, but exported as a self contained with current settings, no recompression and dropped into Compressor.
Based on length and the type of footage, elect a preset for video and elect Dolby 2 for audio

  • Still Frames Exported from Final Cut Jitter in DVD Studio Pro

I'm on a Titanium Powerbook G4. I use Final Cut 3.0 and DVD Studio Pro 1.5. Within my film I have several 15 second clips that are each a compilation of a single frame repeated many times so as to get the look of a still picture on the screen. I exported my film as a F.C.P. movie and when I watch it in Quicktime everything appears fine (as it does when I play it from within F.C.P.). However, when I author the DVD with Studio Pro (tried it w/ iDVD also and received the same unwanted result)those clips "jitter" or shake back and forth so I get a blurry image instead of a still, clear image like in F.C.P.
I burn the DVD w/ the internal combo drive on my Powerbook. I have never had an issue w/ any DVD that I have editied, authored or burned on this computer or w/ these programs.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks, Ryan

  • Final cut pro x/DVD studio pro

A need an advice, I been using Final cut pro to edit my professional wedding videos and DVD studio pro to burn and make menus, can anyone recommend me another professional software to to create menus and burn DVD, my mac has an dvd drive built in, if I buy an external DVD burner drive, would I get better quality (on standard DVD's)

I don't know why you want to change because Studio Pro is about the best software available.
An external burner will have no effect on the quality of the DVDs.
If you burn large numbers of DVDs an external burner might save wear and tear on your built in one.

  • DVB-C recorded DVDs to Final Cut Pro to DVD Studio Pro and Flash - how?

As a TV journalist I am recording my works with my DVB-C Receiver and a DVD-Harddisc-Recorder from LG. The movies are stored on the harddisc and I burn them to DVDs in order to work with the files on my computer. What progrograms do I have to use in order to get file out of the DVD-vobs, that Final Cut Pro can read an work with. DVB-C is MPEG-encoded, right? But I don’t want to loose quality and don’t want to encode the material several times? In Final Cut I want to get rid of commerials and cut severel movies together that were broadcasted on several days. After that I want to get two differt files: 1. A flash movie form my website and 2. A file form my archive. With those files I want to complile DVDs with DVD Studio Pro for my customers later. Can anyone please give me a good and professional workflow to solve this common problem? • Propper Compressions: from Final Cut Pro to DVD Studio Pro?

Ok, so i have a project on Final Cut Pro, what are the right compressions that i would need to do to get my project to DVD Studio Pro?

First take a long look at the manual and the tutorial.
Then elect the preset in Compressor that fit to the total length of your movie. Less than 90 minutes = 90 minute preset for video. Whatever yours is.
Then encode audio in compressor to Dolby 2.
Best to do the DVD SP tutorial. Your question is basic.
    good luck

  • Aperture and other Pro Applications ( Final Cut, Motion, DVD Studio Pro )

    Hi folks,
I have bought Final Cut Studio a while back, and have been working with all the tools for a while now ( FCP, Motion and DVD Studio Pro ). Recently I also switched to Aperture to manage / capture / organise my digital photographs ( previously I used iPhoto ).
Now I was wondering how I could use the pictures from my Aperture library in Motion or DVD Studio Pro. When I look at the file Browser, I can easily use some iPhoto pictures, but apparently I can't seem to find anything for Aperture.
What I would like to do is use some pictures from Aperture in a Motion project and also include an Aperture album in DVD Studio as a SlideShow.
What would be the best way to do this ? Do I have to export the pictures I want to use ? Or am I missing something ?
    Regards,
    Stefaan

    Stefaan,
Unfortunately, that type of integration between the Pro Apps is not there (yet). It would definitely be a nice feature to have. We should all send feedback to Apple asking for this feature. For now, you will need to export photos for use in these other apps.
Along the same lines, I would also like to see integration with Aperture and the "iLife" programs. Since Aperture will likely replace iPhoto for at least some of us, it would be nice to be able to use Aperture photos in these apps as well.
