DVD Studio Pro missing toolbar

After upgrading from Panther to Tiger, DVD Studio Pro's preferences and toolbar go missing from the application per this discussion:
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=1304002&#1304002
The solution I discovered is to install ProApps 3.1 for Tiger:

Thanks for that Ryan. Yes, ProApps Support is very important to install and keep up to date...

I can't burn a dvd using any method, idvd tells me that my super drive is missing, dvd studio pro quits when i click burn and disk utility keeps spitting the disk out when I click burn and enter the disk??? how do i repair my superdrive for imac, or how do I do whatever I need to do to get it working: I have already tried using a lens cleaning cd and also restored my nvram or something i forget what it was called but i restarted my computer holding down  command+optoion+p+r and still nothing???
Free solutions are the best, although if I have to pay I will, I would prefer to not have to buy an external burner if possible and already know that is an option so please don't give me that answer... thank you for any help you can give

Unless your iMac is still covered by AppleCare, get an external DVD burner.
You can get perfectly good ones from Amazon for less than $40.

  • Missing DVD Studio Pro 4 templates, shapes, etc...

I recently had a hard drive meltdown, and had to install a new internal HD. I reinstalled all my software and everything works great except DVD Studio Pro 4.0.3
I've tried re-installing three times and no matter what I do, all default templates, shapes, text, and buttons are missing.
I'm still running on OS X 10.4, so it's definitely not an issue with Leopard.
Does anyone know what is going on? I even updated and they still won't show up.
Is there anyway to re-install these missing elements?
    PLEASE HELP!

SOLUTION: After an unbelievable number of hours trying to resolve this "missing templates" situation with DVD Studio Pro 4.2 I finally found the problem (bug?). The choose feature in "preferences" is broken. Apple's instructions tell us to go to the preferences, Destinations, Palette Elements, and set the following path:/Library/Application Support/DVD Studio Pro which, as you probably already know, does not work. Reinstall doesn't work either. Nothing works.
    This is what DOES work.
You need to MANUALLY enter the "drive name" into the selection box "after" you have selected the correct location, i.e. after I made my selection the following came up in the entry box, /Library/Application Support/DVD Studio Pro. The problem is that the "choose" process did not automatically include the drive name. After adding the name, in this case, "Boot 1," the entry box then read, Boot 1/Library/Application Support/DVD Studio Pro. Everything loaded and remained in place. After I restarted DVDSP to reassure myself it was working and found everything to be OK, I went to the preferences and to my dismay I found the entry had changed to:
/Library/Application Support/DVD Studio Pro/Apple. NOTICE, I did not have "/Apple" in my original destination and the entry I made, "Boot 1," was conspicuously missing. I recall previously trying the path with "/Apple" included and it wouldn't work. The only thing that made a difference was adding the drive's name. I hope this helps everybody with this problem.

  • Missing fonts from DVD studio Pro

HELP!!! Anyone had this problem. Feel stupid asking because the answer will be right under my nose at the end of the keyboard.
I have recently re-installed DVD STudio Pro 4 and no longer have any fonts available when I access the font panel to create text for buttons etc. Any ideas???

thanks Gary, tried that one already, no luck. Just doesn't make any sense. Where have all the fonts gone. All other programs find the font folder just DVDSP...mystery!

  • DVD Studio Pro Content Missing

So I migrated all my files to a new hard drive,
including all my final cut studio content.
And now DVD studio pro is the only app that won't
point to those content files (templates, styles, shapes... etc.)
i did a search and found this:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=5896253&#5896253
is the only solution for my problem?

Load the template into a menu and look in your assets tab. Find the file that is the background and control+click on it, then select 'reveal content in finder'... it'll take you right to it.
Be aware that some templates use files that can't be edited... and also, remember to make a backup of the original in case it all goes horribly wrong!

  • How can i get my Imac, running OSX 10.6.8 with a 2Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo, how can i get Final Cut Pro 4 and DVD studio pro 2 to run on it?

I just bought an IMAC running OSX 10.6.8 (not sure what flavor that is). The processor is 2Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo (Late 2006). When i run Final Cut Pro 4 on it I get the following error.
                        "Configuration error
This software requires certain hardware or software which is missing
                                    * AGP graphics Card"
If Final Cut Pro 4 doesn't run on my system, what version of Final Cut can I run on this as I am a filmmaker and really am comfortable with Final Cut Pro.
On the same note I also have DVD studio Pro 2 and that just quits without any message.
Hope any of you can be some help.
    Thank you,
    Doug

I do know the software version for sure, but the Intel/PowerPC is very confusing. I just need to find someone who would know about this question. It doesn't say G5 on this computer. Thats my biggest confusion. Help Me...

  • Is there is a way to export the themes from iDVD to DVD Studio Pro?

OK...so here's what I'm trying to find out: is there is a way to export the themes from iDVD to DVD Studio Pro? Or can I build the project in DVDSTPRO and import it to iDVD to build and burn?
I've read several threads here and haven't come across my specific question. If I missed it, please copy me a link. Otherwise, I'd like to use the templates/themes in iDVD with my FCP project.
I was thinking about importing the project from FCP to iDVD. Then, I thought about the markers etc....
So, if anyone had an idea, tip or link, I'm all for it!
    Thanks!
    ron

    Importing iDVD Projects and Themes
DVD Studio Pro 4 can import projects from iDVD 3 and iDVD 4. You can import an iDVD theme by using the theme in a project within iDVD and importing the project into DVD Studio Pro. When creating the project within iDVD, you do not need to use the final assets or make a complete project.
Note: DVD Studio Pro will not import projects from iDVD 1, iDVD 2, and iDVD 5. In general, iDVD needs to be installed on the same system as DVD Studio Pro. An exception is if you import an iDVD 4 archive project.
To import an iDVD project or archived project into DVD Studio Pro:
1 Do one of the following:
    • Choose File > Open.
    • Press Command-O.
2 Locate and select the iDVD project or iDVD 4 archive project in the Open dialog, then click Open.
DVD Studio Pro imports the iDVD project.
    About the iDVD Project Import
When DVD Studio Pro imports an iDVD 3 or iDVD 4 project or iDVD 4 archive project, it has standard locations it looks for to find the assets and themes used in the project. This is especially important if the project uses custom themes.
The standard locations that DVD Studio Pro uses are (in this order):
    • iDVD project bundle: This is the file created when you save the project.
    • [user]/Library/iDVD/Favorites: This folder is located in your home folder.
    • [root]/Library/iDVD/Favorites: This folder is located at the root of your disk.
    • /Network/Library/iDVD/Favorites: This folder is on a network system specifically
configured by your system administrator for this purpose. (This is not the same as having a server networked into your computer.)
    • iDVD application bundle: This is the iDVD application file that contains the default theme elements.
Note: When you create an archive project in iDVD 4, you can choose to include the themes and encoded files. For the best portability, you should include both options. This results in a larger archive file, but ensures you can take the file to any DVD Studio Pro system and import it without missing assets. If you do not choose to include the themes and encoded files in the archive file, those assets must be available in one of the standard locations.
If your project will have automatically-created chapter index (scene selection) menus based on markers embedded in the video, it can be easier to create these within iDVD prior to importing the project into DVD Studio Pro. This ensures the chapter index menus use the selected theme’s background and include arrow buttons to navigate between the menus.
Important: To ensure all iDVD menu elements import correctly into DVD Studio Pro, you must navigate to each chapter index menu within iDVD before saving the project. This is also true for any menus you add to your iDVD project by clicking the Folder button.
    Issues With Importing iDVD Projects
There are some issues to be aware of when you import iDVD projects:
    • If you import an iDVD project with DVD-ROM content, DVD Studio Pro does not update the settings in the Disc Inspector’s General tab to reflect the DVD-ROM content. You must manually select the DVD-ROM layout and choose the folder to include.
    • When you create a slideshow in iDVD, you can add arrow buttons to each still to provide viewers with an additional method of jumping to the previous and next stills. These arrow buttons are not imported when you import an iDVD project into DVD Studio Pro. The viewer must use the Previous and Next buttons on the DVD player’s remote control to jump between stills.
    • The button highlights used in iDVD may look different when imported into DVD Studio Pro. In most cases, the text in the buttons is set to be included in the highlight. Additionally, buttons that use an underline in iDVD will not have an underline when imported into DVD Studio Pro.
    • When you import an iDVD project, you may find that the button that is highlighted by default on some menus changes. During the project import, DVD Studio Pro numbers the buttons on each menu and highlights button 1 by default. You can assign any button on a menu to be the default button in the Menu tab in the Menu Inspector.
    • If you import an iDVD project that contains a drop zone configured as a slideshow and has multiple slides assigned to it, DVD Studio Pro only shows the slideshow’s first slide in the drop zone.

  • Aperture and other Pro Applications ( Final Cut, Motion, DVD Studio Pro )

    Hi folks,
I have bought Final Cut Studio a while back, and have been working with all the tools for a while now ( FCP, Motion and DVD Studio Pro ). Recently I also switched to Aperture to manage / capture / organise my digital photographs ( previously I used iPhoto ).
Now I was wondering how I could use the pictures from my Aperture library in Motion or DVD Studio Pro. When I look at the file Browser, I can easily use some iPhoto pictures, but apparently I can't seem to find anything for Aperture.
What I would like to do is use some pictures from Aperture in a Motion project and also include an Aperture album in DVD Studio as a SlideShow.
What would be the best way to do this ? Do I have to export the pictures I want to use ? Or am I missing something ?
    Regards,
    Stefaan

    Stefaan,
Unfortunately, that type of integration between the Pro Apps is not there (yet). It would definitely be a nice feature to have. We should all send feedback to Apple asking for this feature. For now, you will need to export photos for use in these other apps.
Along the same lines, I would also like to see integration with Aperture and the "iLife" programs. Since Aperture will likely replace iPhoto for at least some of us, it would be nice to be able to use Aperture photos in these apps as well.

  • Please help! dvd studio pro 3/ m2v issues

    hi,
i have been attempting to burn a simple dvd for 9 hours now. i'm using dvd studio pro 3 on a macbook pro (OS X Tiger); the video assets comprising my dvd studio pro project are mpeg2 files. everything looks beautiful when i simulate the menu within studio pro. then when i build/format, the formatting fails every single time and gives me NO error code, nothing to go on - all it says is "formatting failed".
studio pro 3 can import and play the mpeg2 files, but not build/format the project with them - i'm wondering if this is an obvious compatibility thing with macbook pro. i know macbook pro can't read mpeg2 files on its own (much to my chagrin - a major flaw in my humble opinion but that's a different story) - like, if i were to try to play the file in the quicktime player. but, should i be having this problem when working with the mpeg2 files strictly within the software? final cut pro exported the files just fine, dvd studio pro accepted and can play them - is the dvd drive on a macbook pro unable to write a project with original assets in mpeg2 format even IF, theoretically, these should be encoded by the software prior to burning the dvd?
this is really time urgent as well, so any help would be much appreciated... thanks!

ah, thank you, the mystery about the studio pro 3 is somewhat solved. i've been having problems with it ever since i transitioned to the intel, but strangely it has worked about half the time so i didn't think it was unsupported altogether.
Nope officially unsupported and not to be used on Intel Machines (though of course once in awhile it will work properly, which is almost worse than never working )
i have tried building first then formatting; i have tried everything - formatting first, building/formatting, building first, etc. i have tried 2 different brands of media dvd-r. as for DL with proper layer break, i was reading a bit about that in another thread but i'm not sure what it pertains to exactly... nothing i've done is very complex and it's all been very DIY learn-as-i-go. so... not sure if i'm missing something there.
    thanks
Can you build the DVD? Or will it not even build? (Since it is not a DL do not worry about the layer break, sometimes if making DL DVD and there is no break found it can stall things out)

  • Reinstall dvd studio pro 2

After trying to reinstall my dvd studio pro 2 on my G5 it will not let me install the disk and gives me the message,[ missing old bill of materials for this package was not found]

A common way to solve it is to download and install the proapplications support file:

It's not a guaranteed winner, but it has worked for countless folks.

  • Setting in compressor to DVD Studio pro

    Hello
    Need some help with compressor.
The matter is that I have a QT video ( Video Format: RLE. Codec ID: rle. 35min. Bit rate 226Mbps 720 x 576 PAL. Display ratio 5:4. Frame rate mode: variable. Frame rate: 25. 55GB. Bits( Pixelframe): 22,217. Audio 16 bits, 48 khz, stream size. 385Mb) which I want to burn in a DVDSP in DVD Studio Pro.
To do so I am trying to compress in compressor first.
I have tried with these setting: video CBR one pass 8 bitrate ( he first try was with 7, but almost with the same results= lines or pixels in the parts with camara movements), format: M2V 720 x 576 PAl CCIR 601 (16:9) Open GOP. GOP structure: IBP 6. Audio AIFF 16 bits, 48 KHz
To try to avoid lines in the moving parts of the video I also selected desenlaced filter (to convert to progressive), the result is pixels in the parts of the video when the camara moves...
I have selected CBR one past because I have read in several forums that is the best option in compressor, I have tried VBR with no goog results...
I used AIFF adio because the first time I used AC3, the audio of the video had an error. In addition there are space in the dvd  as the video ony take 2,6 GB aprox.
    So, my questions are:
    1. What is the best solution to avoid this lines/ pixels in the part of the video with movements?
    2. Do do think I am doing something that could be improve ( should I change some settings?)
    3. Is it maybe to use VBR with compressor marks the best solution? Where are these marks in the compressor interface?
Thanks a lot, I will really appreciatte any suggestion
    Sincerely,
    jey

    Hi Jerry,
To respond to your info request: my "settings" indicate my Editing Timebase is 23.98.
    Moreover...
    Editing Timebase: 23.98
    1920x1080 HDTV 1080i 16:9
    Pixel Aspect Ratio: Square
    XDCAM EX 1080p24 VBR 35Mb/s
    Quality: 100%
    Audio: 48khz
    Audio Depth: 16bit
Indeed, to achieve a film look I undertook the following steps in production and post...
    shot 24p
shot with a Letus Adapter and Zeiss lenses
created an appealing depth of field where possible
avoided various "videofying" shots, like fast pans and so forth
crushed the blacks in color correction
used Nattress and adjusted the S curves in certain areas
I'm just wondering if I missed a step somewhere when it came down to designating the frame rate in Apple Compressor. When I saw the 29.97 frame rate designation in DVD Studio Pro, it surprised me. And then watching my movie on DVD (which is always a slightly difficult experience) I was really feeling like I was seeing an undesirable crisp video-ish feel that I hadn't seen before outputing to DVD.
    obliged for the help,

  • Can I avoid re-encoding of .mov files with Compressor and DVD Studio Pro?

    Hello,
I've had some projects banned at one of the tracking sites because my iMovie 6.0.1/iDVD 7.1.1 workflow involves re-encoding of the iMovie .mov file to MPEG 2 when authored in iDVD. I did some research, and was advised that I could get around the re-encoding by using Compressor and DVD Studio Pro instead of iDVD. But, when I import the iMovie file to Compressor for authoring in DVD Studio Pro, the result is another MPEG 2 file. So, am I missing something, or is there no way for me to avoid re-encoding with Apple video production tools.
    Thanks for any assistance.

The simple fact that you have to encode your files into an mpeg-2 stream means that you're going to experience a loss in quality.  Check the bitrate of your DV files.  The max bitrate for all of the elementary steams (audio, video) on a DVD is 9.8mbps.  So if your source has a higher bitrate than that... you're going to experience "lossiness."
However there are some tricks that I've read about that increase the overall quality of compression... and yes they are for windows.  Check out AVIsynth and MeGUI... there is a learning curve to learning these tools though.  I never followed through with it.
EDIT: Also forgot to mention that learning these things takes TIME.  Quality encoding takes much longer than realtime.
You can also check out some higher quality mpeg2 encoders like cinemacraft and HC encoder, although the former costs $$$.  The quality you get from these encoders are much better than what you have in iDVD and DVDSP/Compressor.

    • How often do you use the DVD Studio Pro Help documentation? Under what circumstances do you use it most?
    • How do you find what you're looking for in DVD Studio Pro Help? For example: table of contents, index, skimming, PDF links, PDF search?
    • What do you like most about DVD Studio Pro Help?
    • What is missing?

    • What size computer display do you typically use to view the onscreen help? For example: 15-inch, 17-inch, 20-inch, 23-inch, or 30-inch?
    • What resolution is the computer display set to when you view onscreen help? For example: 1024 x 768, 1280 x 854, or 1920 x 1200 pixels?
    • Do you use multiple computer displays?

    • How often do you use the DVD Studio Pro Help
documentation? Under what circumstances do you use it
    most?
I'm working with DVSP for 4 months, so everytime I don't know how to do something I use the documentation. As the times passes I almost don't need it so often.
    • How do you find what you're looking for in DVD
Studio Pro Help? For example: table of contents,
index, skimming, PDF links, PDF search?
PDF Search, but I think is not the best way to search because it shows too much useless results.
    • What do you like most about DVD Studio Pro Help?
It is powerful and easy to use.
    • What is missing?
A way of editing the DVD Project Source Code. Let me explain: in some big projects I just need to change the Jump from "button_1" to "button_2", and to do that I need to find the button under my menus and choose it from a list. If I can just type "2" instead of "1" it will be faster and error-free.
Advancing in this idea, if I can open the entire link list as a Source Code in TextEdit, I can see all the buttons and link all of them without seeking for each on menus.
Today the Connections Tab helps a lot, but I still need to find the button un the menus. With 5 or 4 menus is easy, but sometimes I have 50...
    • Are there any particular examples of other manuals
or documentation that you consider to be good models
for future editions of the DVD Studio Pro User Manual
    and onscreen help?
    The OSX help is great!
    • By what method do you usually learn a new
application? For example: provided tutorials and
manuals, third-party tutorials or books, training
    classes?
Manuals, third-party tutorials and discussions foruns.
    • What do you think is the most difficult
feature/concept to grasp in DVD Studio Pro?
    • What's the most frustrating experience you've had
with the DVD Studio Pro Help documentation?
Using scripts. It could be better with a lot of examples. "To do that, try this one".
    • Do you prefer electronic or print documentation?
In electronic is easy to find things.
    • Are there any other delivery methods or media you
    think we should explore?
    • What size computer display do you typically use to
view the onscreen help? For example: 15-inch,
    17-inch, 20-inch, 23-inch, or 30-inch?
    I use AppleCinema 20
    • What resolution is the computer display set to when
you view onscreen help? For example: 1024 x 768, 1280
    x 854, or 1920 x 1200 pixels?
    1650x1050
    • Do you use multiple computer displays?
    No.

  • FCP Export to DVD Studio Pro

I am trying to export a QT movie file from FCP to DVD Studio Pro, but once it is in DVDSP, the file is too large to fit on a dual-layer DVD-R. Not to mention there are other files that need to be on that same DVD.
I was told to always export it with CURRENT SETTINGS ..... but when I do, they are over 10GBs in DVD Studio Pro.
Do I have to re-edit my movie to make it shorter? Its only a 45min HD Video. Or is there a setting I am missing here?
    Please help! Thanks so much.

Yes, export with current settings. But you're leaving out the crucial step, which is creating the mpeg file that dvdsp needs. You can either make it in compressor or let dvdsp do it in the background while you author your menus etc. It's the same engine either way. But having dvdsp do it, while in one way simpler-- the controls need a lot more drilling down to find. Sorry if that's a convoluted sentence. Too many jelly beans.

  • Best Books on DVD STUDIO PRO?

Ive just got into DVD STUDIO PRO, and Im wondering if anyone knows of any good books on the subject. I did the Lynda.com tutorials, which were great but really basic. Im looking for more creative approaches. The ones I saw on Amazon had extremly low customer satisfaction ratings.
Did anyone read that article a month or so ago (in the new york times I think) about how people are getting reall creative making DVD menus these days?
    KT
MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

    Hi Kevin,
Sorry I can't recommend any DVDSPro books (haven't read any besides the manual), but I'm intrigued by this article you mention about "creative" DVD menus. If you find it again, can you post a link to it? If not, do you remember any examples of "creative" menus? I love trying different things and usually just figure them out on my own, but if there are some interesting concepts I haven't thought of yet, I'd love to hear about them (and try to duplicate them of course).
By the way, if anyone has any old books covering version 1.5 and would like to donate them (i.e., send them to me and be reimbursed for postage), please let me know. I have versions 2 & 3 and will probably be getting 4 eventually, but I most often use 1.5 -- I think I know it inside and out, but any books that might cover something I may have missed would be welcome.
