DVD Studio Pro Mountain Lion

Is it my MacBook Pro Retina or Moutain Lion or both that keeps DVDSP from working?

How did you install the Final Cut Studio apps?
Did you use the original disks or migrate from an older machine?

  • Does DVD Studio Pro 4 Work In Mountain Lion OS 10.8.3 ?

I have an older version of "DVD Studio Pro 4" which I have never installed, an would be curious to know if it will run on OSX 10.8.3 (Mountain LIon)?  I have a new 2013 iMac that I am loading up with software, and would like to consider loading the "DVD Studio Pro 4".
I'd also be interested in knowing of any DVD Studio Pro 4 updates (if any) and where to get them, including the 4.0.2 update ... as, unfortunately the Apple site has dropped update support for this program.
Anyone have any knowledge on this?

    Russ:
Well, evidently "DVD Studio Pro 4" won't install on an Intel iMac.
Attached (below) is a "screen grab" of the unexpected pop-up window I was first presented with, when I tried to use the DVD Studio Pro 4 Installer .mpkg.
    DVD Studio Pro 4
    Minimum Hardware Requirements
    • A Macintosh computer with a 733 megahertz (MHz) or faster
PowerPC G4 or G5 processor (G5 required for HD authoring
       and playback)
    • 8 megabytes (MB) of video memory (32 MB recommended)
    • 512 MB of RAM (1 GB required for HD)
    • AGP Quartz Extreme graphics card
    DVD Studio Pro 4
    Minimum Software Requirements
    • Mac OS X v10.3.9 or later
    • QuickTime 7.0 or later
Nuts!  I really wanted to install and use this application.
PS:  Just curious Russ .... how are you able to run "DVD Studio Pro 4" on your MBP with 10.7?  Is the MBP Intel?  Can you tell me the "version" of "DVD Studio Pro 4" that you have installed?
Was there an Intel version made of "DVD Studio Pro 4" that I don't know about?

  • Can i install Final cut studio 5 and DVD Studio Pro 4 on OSX lion

Is any body who can help me on giving me some direction on how to install Final Cut Studio 5.1 and DVD Studio Pro 4 on my OSX Lion, if it's doable. Thanks

The easiest way is to install Rosetta from a Mac OS X 10.6 DVD first.
There's also a way of doing it via Terminal that's been posted here a couple of times. A search should bring that up.
Edit: Found it... https://discussions.apple.com/message/21416133#21416133 read the second post.

  • Lion kills SoundTrack Pro, DVD Studio Pro and Color

After installing Lion on my cloned boot drive FCP 7.0.3 runs but SoundTrack pro, DVD Studio Pro and Color return an error message indicating Lion can't run PowerPC programs. They also have a white slashed circle over them indicating they aren't compatible.
This wasn't a widely advertised restriction of Lion prior to its release.
I'm thankful I have a fully operating Snow Leopard installation.

I don't know why you would have the PowerPC-only versions installed on an intel machine?  It's very weird, because they should be Universal. This may mean that you were running those apps using Rosetta under Snow Leopard, but Rosetta isn't installed with Lion. You should just re-install from the FCS3 DVD and the proper Intel versions will be placed in your Applications folder.
I just launched every FCS3 app under Lion and they all work fine, except for Cinema Tools (which unexpectedly quit.)

  • DVD Studio Pro & LION

Just upgraded to Lion and opened DVD Studio Pro Project.  It gives me all kinds of pop up boxes...."do you want to save the project".  When I went to burn the disk the tray for my super drive opens then when I put disk in and close it DVD Studio Pro locks up.   I have to force quit.  Then I have to Restart computer to eject disk.   Is Lion compatible with DVD Studio Pro  4.2.2

How did you install the Final Cut Studio apps?
Did you use the original disks or migrate from an older machine?

  • DVD Studio Pro quits unexpectedly

Here is the conversation I've had under OS X Mountain Lion that I was suggested to post under Final Cut Studio hoping someone might be able to help me here:

Whenever I click on Font Panel button inside Preferences to change subtitle fonts, the wheel starts turning for a while until DVD SP shuts itself. It's the same with Menu Button and Text Fonts. There's no trouble with changing any other preferences though. Deleting DVD SP with all the preferences etc. and reinstalling it did not help either.
I ignored this and created a project using the compressed mpeg2 media converted inside Compressor with DVD Best Quality 90 minutes. The media used was H264 PAL. Subtitles in the project are Belle-nuit graphic files and menus are PSD. It runs through fine until the end. After finishing all the build process, instead of completing, DVD SP 4.2.2 quits again which is not unexpected to me anymore after my 5th attempt.
I begin to suspect if this may be a compatibility case as I have the most recent technology imac.
Hoping that I made myself clear enough, any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

Maybe my story will help You...
just after upgrade to Snow Leopard (new disk for system, users, settings and apps transferred from old system) DVD SP quits when i tryied to choose for example another location for my build.
None of these standard task helped:
    repair permissions
    restart
    new user
    delete preferences
    reinstall DVDSP...
And below is what has helped:
    1. Download ProKitUpdate7.0
    2. Download newest Pacifist
    3. Open package ProKitUpdate7.0 with Pacifist
    4. Install package ProKitUpdate7.0 with administrator privileges with reaplace option enabled for all.
    5. Restart Mac
    Now DVDSPro works as usual.

Thank you very much for your help and apologies for my late reply, I've been quite busy recently.
The computer I'm using is newly bought iMac with OS X 10.8.2. A newer version of ProKitUpdate was already on my computer when I tried ProKitUpdate 7.0. Your solution doesn't seem to apply to mine but thank you for your kindness.
But I didn't give up and deleted Final Cut Studio 3 completely with FCS Remover, did the verify and repair thing in safe boot mode and reinstalled FS3 again. It's still the same.
I don't think there is anything I left out after reading all the web pages, searching all forums. If it doesn't get interfered by other installed programmes such as After Effects CS5.5 or Photoshop CS5.1, which I don't know how to find out, then it is the compatibility problem. I can't think of anything else. And in this case it was a big mistake buying the newest technology computer as I'm not willing to try out Final Cut Pro X and learn another DVD authoring programme.

If you have a font problem, this tip may help.

I would be optimistic that this will get sorted out OK. Many people are successfully running FCS3 on ML.

  • Did Apple Break HD-DVD Playback with Mountain Lion using Apple DVD Player?

First of all, kindly spare me the commentary about Blu-Ray beating HD-DVD. Agreed and not the question. I have perfectly good reasons for using HD-DVD and it works very well for my purposes.
I authored an HD-DVD in DVD Studio Pro 4.2.2. as I have done many times before on Snow Leopard, but this time on Mountain Lion. When I try to play the HD-DVD, either from the physical disk from a disk image, the menu appears, but when the play button is pressed, the menu stays on screen, but the player shows the timecode of the movie playing, but with no sound or picture.
Thinking that perhaps the menu got corrupted, I put the same HD-DVD into a MacBook Pro running Snow Leopard, and it played perfectly! Conclusion: Not a DVD Studio Pro problem.
Thinking that it might be DVD Player, I copied DVD Player 5.4 from the Snow Leopard MacBook Pro to the Mountain Lion MacBook Pro (which was running DVD Player 5.6), and the HD-DVD still had the same issue on the Mountain Lion MacBook Pro, under either of the DVD Player versions. Conclusion: Not a DVD Player issue.
The HD-DVD does mount and initialize, so it's not a hardware issue with the optical drive.
Conclusion: It would appear to me that it's an OS issue with Mountain Lion breaking (either intentionally or unintentionally), HD-DVD playback. Anyone know anything more about this issue? Anyone else saddened to see Apple turn into Microsoft circa 2005, and the MacOS turn into Vista? I haven't seen much of anything about it in the forums, which is why I'm posting it here.
Thanks Apple. I just spent the better part of 3 days transcoding and authoring this HD-DVD, only to have you screw it up for me 2 days before my film festival (the perfectly good reason for using HD-DVD). Kindly spare me the, "Why don't you encode a ProRes blah blah blah quicktime movie." Heard it all before.
I knew I would regret upgrading to Mountain Lion, and I do more and more each and every day as I continually find more things that it broke. Yet another reason to add to my list for downgrading to Snow Leopard. I'm up to about 30 of them. Or to abandon Final Cut for Adobe products.
Thanks and sorry for the rant, but I'm justifiably frustrated.

Update: The Apple Store in Nashua, New Hampshire replicated the issue on their own hardware, so yes, Apple did break HD-DVD playback with Mountain Lion (it does still work in Lion, they discovered). The Apple Store reported the issue to engineering, but the more people that report the issue, the more likely Apple will do something about it. Thanks Apple.

  • Is it still possible to find DVD Studio Pro?

I'd like to get a copy of DVD Studio Pro.  Some questions:
Is it still possible to find it?
Will it run in Mountain Lion?
It looks like version 4 was the last one. Since it came with multiple versions of Final Cut Studio, how far back can I go and still get the disc to load on my Mac?
    It will allow for closed-captioning?
If I have mutiple video clips listed in the menu, will DVDSP allow for continuous play through all the clips?
    Thanks for your help!

    1.  Yes.  Check ebay, craigslist or other used outlet.
    2. Some say yes, others have had trouble.
    3. I'd recommend getting the latest version you can find.  That would be Final Cut Studio 3, also known as Final Cut Studio 2009.
    4. As long as the captions are embedded in line 21 of the vertical blanking interval (NTSC) of the video track, yes.  You can also add sutitles in DVD SP.
    5. Yes, if authored correctly.

  • DVD Studio Pro locks up - crashes on selecting Format

I searched for this one but couldn't find anyone. having this problem.  I believe it's Mountain Lion-related.  Mountain Lion is not my friend.  I just open the program, hit format and I get a spinning ball.  Trashed preferences.  This is starting to get me down.

I am very happy to report that DVD Studio Pro has been restored to health.  It was an accident.  I took someones advice on how to fix a sleep wake issue on the Mac Pro.
    This is what I did.
    1.  Boot up holding down the CMD and R keys to get to Disk Utilities.
    2.  Run Repair Permissions.
    3.  Run Repair Disk.
    4. Close out of the Disk Utilities and boot the machine.
    5. Open the Finder.  Hold down the Option key, choose GO from the menu and select LIBRARY.
    6. From the Library drag the CACHE fold and the COOKIES folder to the trash.
    7. Delete the trash.
Probably recognizable by many of you.  This fixed sleep.  It fixed DVD SP.  Muxing/build and format.  It also seems to have fixed problems with opening Toast 11, Squeeze 8.5, Compressor 3.5.3 and Disk Utility without locking up.  The last group I mentioned has been very contentious.  Want to test some more before a final verdict.  It did not fix a skipped frames issue when monitoring BlackMagic audio in FCP 7.

  • Dvd studio pro 4 and 10.8

Anyone installed DVD Studio Pro 4 on Mountain Lion?  Did it install OK?
I installed it, now I cant find it.  Literally.

DUH! Solved.  I installed the content, not the app.  When I figured as much (before writing the first post), I went looking in /user/library, not /library/.

    [Edited for Personal Information]

Hi there Jim, aka @jknud , welcome to the forums
I understand you're looking to print CD/DVD labels to your Officejet 6500 Wireless, from your Mac.
There are normally third party software programs you can download to print out whichever brand of labels you are trying to print on. If you wish to let me know which type of labels you are using, I will see if I can find their support forums for you.

i recently purchased final cut pro 7 from a store, and it came with Dvd studio pro, wich is what i was mainly needing, cuz i bought final cut pro x already, butwhen i upgraded to Lion,  DVDSP does not work, it says that it does not support PowerPC applications. what does this mean? and why does it not work on Lion?

I just burned a dvd in DVDSP on My MBP yesterday with Lion Installed. FCS3 Is a ppc/intel unversal program it should work fine... Did you try updating under the apple menu?

  • DVD Studio Pro 4 (a stand alone product)?  Need advice purchasing BD authoring software

According to Wiki, DVD STUDIO PRO-4 came with the "creative suite" that was discontinued by Apple in 2006.
In 2003-2005 I used DVD Studio Pro-2.  That was THEN.
Now I have now an overkill PowerMac G5, FCPX, and Compressor-4.   My question is what software can I purchase that will burn BLU-RAY disks and give me some menues like DVD Studio Pro?
    Thanks
    -Dale

Okay, I remember the days back in 2003 when using FCP4, DVD Studio2, and Compressor2 there was lots of hoopla about creating great videos -- then (at that time) Apple had no respectable DVD player software -- now (Lion) has DVD player.
In like manner, we have all this hoopla about FCPX, Compressor4, Motion5 --- and no Blu-Ray (BD) authoring software.   If Apple is worth its salt and has their marketing folks read these forums, seems like SOMEBODY would finally GET IT.   This is like building a Rolls Royce without a muffler.
Well, I've answered my own question.   I purchased TOAST-11 to read MTS files to discover it also authors BD.  By clicking "create BD disk" you'll be prompted to purchase & download a $20 plugin.   Does a GREAT job with menus.  Just drag your video & audio files (from compressor) and that's it.
BTY- all the "stink" around FCPX about not being able to import MTS files from disk (this is like building a Ferrari without a gas tank).  Tom W gave a great suggestion to use a product called CLIPWRAP ($50).  So I bought it (converts MTS to MOV without data loss).

  • My sister can't find Pages on her Macbook Pro Mountain Lion, can someone help?

My sister is new to her MacBook Pro Mountain Lion and thinks she may have deleted the Pages program. She's away at college for the first time and needs this program. I've told her to use Finder and search for Pages, or look in her applications, but to no avail. Help?

How did she acquire Pages in the first place?
If it was a purchase from the Mac App Store, all she need to do is launch App Store (from the  menu is easiest), sign in with the Apple ID & password used, click on 'purchases' & click the INSTALL button to the right of Pages in the list.
If it was from a retail DVD she will need the DVD to reinstall.

  • DVD Studio pro " Complier File Error"

MY DVD studio pro is no longer working, I get " Complier File Error " when I try to burn a disc. Will this have anything to do with using Mountion lion on my computor?  The DVD studio pro  works on my new pro mac. So what is wrong.
I did reload FCP 7 again and it uploads but will not work.
    Paul

It will help if you cansupply more details. Are you encoding in Compressor? If so,what are the presets? Please post a screenshot.
    Thanks.
