DVD studio pro not playing entire video

When I use the simulator it only plays a portion of the video, and when I burn it to a DVD it stops at the same point. But both the audio and mpeg2 in the track play all the way through though. What am I doing wrong?

So if the project is corrupt, does that mean I just have to re export my project in FCP? I used quicktime conversion and I read that it isn't recommended for exporting to be burned to DVD. I orginally tried to use compressor to get it to mpeg2 for DVD studio and what not so I compressed it again and the same thing happened. I also tried to use the share option in FCP with the DVD option but it exported for over 10 hours and was stuck at 5 minutes remaining for about the last 3 hours so I just cancelled it. This is the first time I have ever had to burn to DVD so sorry for being such a noob. And I have no menu, the DVD just needs to play automatically.
No, the clips do not automatically need to be re-exported. The issue with QuickTime is primarily a quality issue.
As Michael mentions above, the preferred workflow is "File:  Export:  Quicktime movie (NOT quicktime conversion) with current settings.  Take this file into compressor and apply the appropriate dvd preset."
I like to think of the export as a "master" file that I use as a basis for transcoding.
I have little knowledge of the newer output options like Sharing. My experience has been that the things done to "simplify" the work usually compromise quality and frequently don't work well.
Here's an article on making an autp-play DVD:

This took about 7.5 hours.  I exported the audio separately as AC3. Finder plays it sound & pictures.  Quicktime plays the video.  DVD Studio Pro, when I drag the assets (video, audio) to the timeline editor, so I can play it in the viewer, it plays the audio the video is black.  No setting in view or any other setting will get it to play the video.  This project is due to ship today and I don't want to re import it if I don't have to.
I exported this project before the MPEG2 export as a Qicktime with .mov suffix.  This plays alright, but there is artifacting around motion.  I think this is due to low VBR, but don't know.  Can ayone help?

    If I may chime in...
I'm a little confused on the "what plays what" part, but  all that really matters is what DVDSP sees/plays.
I've worked on a system like yours and what I'd recommend is:
    1. NEVER export via Compressor. It's just ungodly slow on anything less than a Quad. Export a self contained QuickTime Movie using the first export option and use that to feed Compressor.
    2. Segment your output into manageable clips (I like 15-20 minutes) both to perfect the encoding and so you aren't re-encoding the whole show if something goes sour. It will all play fine as long as it's all in the same DVDSP timeline.
From what you describe, I'm thinking you're on an early version of Compressor that had A-Pack as the AC-3 encoder. This is no biggie, I mention it mostly to verify. Early Compressor was good too.
Make maybe a 5 minute piece to tune up. Just export as normal, then into Compressor. Your encoding values seem about right. Get the AV pair into DVDSP and it should play. I'm guessing that part of your problem is that the processor is fighting to handle the project size. Build the test clip project and look at it in DVD Player to view what would have been burned. If all looks OK, go for it. If not, bring back the results for discussion. This should be a snap, it's just a really big project.  Keep your head up, I had a friend do a 225-minute disk on his G5...

I have 1:51 minute on FCP I , through Quick time , convert it to mov, now I am trying to make the DVD using DVD studio pro, I do the usual steps to make the DVD but at the end it says " formating not secsseful , your media out put has not enough space "
But I a lot time I put 2 hurs on one DVD using DVD studio pro, so what's happened now and how can I empty the DVD studio pro from any past video project

Try sending your movie to Compressor from FCP and making the mpg2 for dvd there instead of converting it to mov and letting dvdsp do the work.

  • Playback of DVD Studio Pro 4 built SD video file - Menu 1 screen is WHITE!!

I recently upgraded from FCP 4.5 with DVD Studio Pro 3 to FCS with DVD Studio 4. I have resolved a number of problems with the upgrade by reading "Apply Discussions", however, I need help with the following: When I import my mpeg2 and AC3 files into DVD SP4, I use the DVD SP4 palette to select an Apple Template for my MENU 1. (I like the "Theater Interior" menu template.) When I view the final product with the DVD SP4 simulator, everything is great including the colors in MENU 1. So, I build my program onto my desktop, the same way I did when I had DVD SP3. Now, the problem begins. When I view the built video TS file on my G5 Apple DVD player, or format it to a standard DVD-R with my pioneer 106D burner and play it back on my in-house DVD player, when the program MENU 1 is displayed on the monitor, it is WHITE in color. The menu is set to times out in 20 seconds. Once that happens, the programs runs perfectly. However, what's with the white menu screen? I can barely make out the buttons. When I click on a button, it operates and the color and program work perfectly from that point. I there an option to get rid of the white screen when the menu comes up? Somehow, when DVD SP4 builds the video file, MENU 1 is encoding with a white background rather than with the colors of the Apple template in use. This did not happen with DVD SP3. Can you help me?
    Ugene

try switching the menu encoding from software to hardware (or vice versa) in your DVDSP preferences and see if that makes a difference for you.

  • Why does DVD Studio Pro compress my 3GB video?

I thought since the original Quicktime movie I made with FCP was under the 4.7(?) capacity of a DVD, that Studio Pro wouldn't compress my 3GB movie. But after import to DVD Studio Pro the whole project only shows up as using 350MB of space. And when burned and played back the video looks horrible! Artifacting (?), etc.
Do I need to go into Compressor and select a setting there BEFORE bringing it into Studio Pro? What setting is recommended? (8 min, wide screen, HD).
    Thanks!

    >I thought since the original Quicktime movie I made with FCP was under the 4.7(?) capacity of a DVD, that Studio Pro wouldn't compress my 3GB movie.
Unfortunately, you thought wrong.  The DVD video specification requires MPEG-2 video and either AC3 or PCM audio, specially multiplexed and formatted as VOB files.  So the size of the source file doesn't really matter.
    >Do I need to go into Compressor and select a setting there BEFORE bringing it into Studio Pro?
    That would be preferable.
    >What setting is recommended?
Duplicate one of the DVD presets and adjust the bit rate to increase the quality ... but do not exceed 8.0mbps or the disc may stutter in some players.  Encode the audio as Dolby Digital (.ac3).
    >8 min, wide screen, HD
You're out of luck there ... DVD is a standard definition format only.  If you want to deliver HD content on an optical disc, it will have to be Blu-ray - not DVD.

  • Burn from dvd studio pro, to playing on MBP?

I just got done making a dvd on DVD studio pro and the dvd plays perfectly fine on my two dvd players that I have at home. But When I want to play it on my Mac book pro, my computer just tries to read it and then spits it back out. any help? why is it not playing on my MBP?

    Hi
It's the same machine where you burned the disc? I would try using a different media brand. But ussually the playback problems are in stand alone players, not in computers.
Did you try another video DVD in the same machine?
    Hope that helps !

  • DVD Studio Pro not importing files

I am using FCP 6.0.1 and trying to import files from compressor to DVD Studio Pro.
I am able to import mp4 files using the latest version of compressor, however unable to import mv2 (mpeg2) files. Also I am only able to import certain mp4 files but not all.
Typically, I used FCP to directly output the files into mv2 files- and those are able to be imported by DVDSP. However, if I use compressor, then the files don't import.
Anyone know what's going on and why my DVD Studio Pro is so picky?

Not really what you want to hear I suppose but maybe invest in a test system to tryout updates before updating crucial systems. Not sure leaving Windows will solve all your problems...
I am running FCS2 on a MacPro and everything is holding up ok so far, its actually running a lot better after the updates touch wood.
Hope you get some answers to help you out. Have you tried other assets to make sure the assests aren't the problem? and so on...

  • DVD Studio Pro Not Burning DVD's Completely

Hey guys. So I just got my C2D MBP and am using DVD Studio Pro to burn my completed projects. After 3 different projects, different types of media, as well as multiple attempts...I cannot get it to burn a "completed" "Formatting Finished" DVD. I continue to get error messages either stating "Unknown Drive Error" or it just hangs forever until I Force Quit once it reaches "Writing Lead Out Data" in the burn window.
Anyone have any idea on what is going on, or what I should try?

    First, welcome to the discussions.
Without a little more info it may be hard to diagnose.
Just on the surface it sounds like you are tring to place to much content on a standard 4.7gb disc.
The media could be an issue, as well as the burn speed.
4.3 is normally all they will hold.
Try to repair permissions and run the dsk utility
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=607640&#607640
    Don
If by chance you are trying to run 16X media that may also be the issue.
The slower speed you burn the better the quality.
Many of the burners in the Mac's do not like the high speed media.

  • DVD Studio Pro not burning

Ok, so, I recently created a projected, burned two or three copies with no problem. Tried burning again and this came up:
Starting DVD Build NAME OF PROJECT...
    Compiler File Error
    Build cancelled
    Formatting finished.
Building was not successful. See log.
It just wouldn't burn this time. Why? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

In DVD Studio Pro, Click *Build and Format*...
Way at the bottom, instead of selecting your DVD Drive, select Hard Disk. And save as a disk Image (.img)
Then, once you create your disk image, from your finder, right click it and select open with "Disk Utility". Then in Disk Utility, select the image you just created and click burn.
Now you don't have to build a format every time you want to burn another copy... Heck, you don't even have to open DVD Studio Pro....

  • DVD STUDIO PRO NOT RESPONDING

    Hey out there;
    Does anyone have this problem with DVD Studio pro 4.2.2;
I launch the app, and the beachball of death keeps spinning and the program
doesn't repsond. I have to physically go into my prefs folder & remove the com.apple.dvdstudiopro.plist each time for the program to work/open.
    Not enough memory ya think?
Any Suggestions? I'm running a MacBook pro/intel with 2gig memory...

I have been having the same problem. DVD Studio Pro will not startup. DVDSP v 4.2.1, with QT v7.6.4. Apple support was helpful enough to take my question, but the resolution they suggested (create new account) seemed to work, in that initially it looked like DVD Studio launched (it got to a setup screen asking me my preferred resolution) but once I got past that screen - beach ball again.
I have trashed prefs, uninstalled (DVDSP only) and reinstalled using FC Studio 2 disk set (takes several hours to do).
All other applications work (FCP, Motion, Soundtrack, Compressor).
I suspect some sort of QT incompatibility (auto update installed 7.6.4 recently and I am not on the FCP system editing as often as the AVID system we have.)
I cannot find a compatibility list anywhere on the Mac site to determine if there IS an incompatibility.

  • Compressor & Dvd Studio Pro not loving me! pls help.

Hi, so ive got a bunch of QT's that i want to put on a dvd. so i use compressor to make them mpeg2 (m2v) using the "DVD fastest encode 90 mins" (or the others) option. it does the work, but as soon as i drop them into DVD Studio Pro, it tells me that they are NTSC assets and thus wont read. How do i stop compressor from making them NTSC, and why the **** would it do so?
I never made them NTSC, but would like them to be PAL.
Any help would be seriously appreciated.
    shot.

    yeah thanks Luca.
i imagine that will work, it seems its a bit of a weird one. it only seems to go bad when im passing the converted files onto another mac with dvd studio pro. thanks for the help tho, ill let you know if i get sorted
    cheers

  • Need DVD Studio Pro - not Final Cut

I'm doing volunteer work for an organization that trains dogs for the disabled. All I need is DVD Studio Pro.... Why has Apple bundled it? The expense is far too high for someone who doesn't need the rest of the software. Is there any way to get DSP 4? Perhaps used?

On a Mac the only options are iDVD and DVD Studio Pro... unless you want to work in OS9 and can find (or afford) a copy of Sonic Fusion or Sonic Creator.
By far the best way forward is to try to find a copy of DVDSP on eBay, or to invest in the whole bundle...
On a PC the options are far more numerous, with lots of offerings from Sonic, plus Adobe Encore to get you started off. If you are looking for something a lot more sophisticated, then look at DVD Lab which is very reasonably priced and gives great access to the features of the DVD spec.

  • Just DVD Studio Pro - Not FC Studio. . .

Just a quick question for you all.
I am after DVD Studio Pro and Compressor to use with my Final Cut Express HD. For what i am doing Final Cut Studio isnt necessary yet so would just like the two applications.
    Any ideas/help??
    Thanks

Actually there is no standalone version of DVDSP that supports Intel Macs, so your answer would be no sorry

  • DVD Studio Pro not Working

I recently upgraded my OS-X to 10.5.4 and my studio pro does not seem to work since the upgrade. It seems to get stuck in the encoding assests segment and and will not burn a DVD. Any ideal what is happening?
    Thanks, Jim Amos

Try encoding your assets outside of DVD SP in Compressor. Though it used to happen more in the past (people having issues with hangs), encoding outside DVD SP often did the trick.
Any details on your computer and version of DVD SP?
