DVD Studio Pro will burn but will not play on dvd player.

Hi,
I have a 30 minute dvd with a menu that i burned yesterday. it will play on my mac but not our dvd player or any of our Pc's. I have a quickly approaching deadline and guidance would be appreciated.

HD DVDs will only play on Macs and a couple of now obsolete Toshiba HD DVD players.
Since DVD is a standard definition only format, you will need to create a regular DVD if you want it to play on regular DVD players or on Windows systems.

  • DVD Studio Pro 4 Burning cd-rom, not dvd for playback on TV

    Hi there.
I completed an HD project in FCP 7, compressed in "Compressor" and now want to burn a DVD in HD in DVD Studio Pro 4.
I went into "Preferences" and made what I believe are all of the necessary changes to make this happen.
However, when it burns, it won't burn a DVD for playback in a DVD player. In fact, one of my DVD players identifies it as a CD-ROm, and sure enough, it plays in the computer, but not in a DVD player.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.
    Kevin

HD DVD is a dead format, abandoned by its developers a few years ago after losing out to Blu-ray.
However, HD DVDs will play on later model Macs and a couple of (now obsolete) models of HD DVD players that were made by Toshiba.
Normal, set-top DVD players and Windows DVD player programs have never been able to play HD DVDs. They only play DVDs, which are standard definition only. Some DVD players will upscale the output of a DVD (again, standard definition) to HD dimensions for playback on HDTVs. Some actually do a pretty good job ... some don't. But the fact remains that the source being played can only be standard definition.
So, if you want to make a disc that will contain HD content, you'll need to make a Blu-ray disc. If you want to make a DVD that will play in DVD players, you'll need to make a DVD, which again, can only be standard definition.

It means your file is too large to fit on a single layer disk.
Recompress to keep the overall size (audio, video and menus) below 4.5GB

  • Using Compressor DVD Studio Pro 4...will not burn files

I was working with an extreamly large video file that was exported as a Quicktime movie and was 69.2 GB and about 2 1/2 hours long. I imported it into the Compressor and chose the DVD file folder>Best Quality DVD 150 minutes and dragged both the video and audio sources onto the project then hit submit.  Once it was finished, I had 2 files video and audio...video (MPEG-2 3.99 GB ) audio (Professional 2.0 aC3) I then imported it into DVDSP 4 I went through dragging both files into track 1, setting chapter markers but I also in the dis/volume tab selected the dual layer option since this movie is very long...I also have the DVD+R double layer DVD for buring on to.  Once I click burn, it goes through the muxing and then formatting process which are both successful but then it pops the DVD out.  I also noticed during the process that in the Log, it notes that the video and audio files are not DVD-video files and will not be applied to the final DVD...I am assuming that it is not recognizing these files, is there a way to fix this perhaps in Compressor first?
    Thanks

    Hello, see if Burn.app works...

    Converting.
Forget worrying about conversion. Burn will take your video and audio files and turns them in the right format.
In the preferences you can set the options for quality and size.

  • Will Burn But Won't Play

I want to make a dvd that's first play with no menu like so:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2872
I followed everything exactly. However, when it is done burning, the dvd does not play in a computer or dvd player (the file is a .mov that is being burned).
Why will it burn, but not play in any dvd playing device?

I did build separately and was able to make a new folder without it being HSDVD.
But this shows up in the log:
"Note: The file ‘DVD_DEMOREEL.layout’ found in the ‘VIDEO_TS’ folder is not a DVD-Video file and will not be included in the final disc or DLT.
Note: The file ‘VOB_DATA.LAY’ found in the ‘VIDEO_TS’ folder is not a DVD-Video file and will not be included in the final disc or DLT.
    Start formatting
    Formatting as Standard DVD"
How do I make that DVD formatable?

  • Burned DVD plays in computers, but does not play in DVD players

I found a discussion of a similar problem from back in 2010, but in that thread the only reply was suggested burning at 1x and trying different media. There was no further correspondence so I can't tell if that suggestion resolved the issue. I tried burning again at 1x and using different media (we're using Verbatim) without success, so I ask again.
The problem is with menu navigation in DVD.
The main menu has the probelem. It has four buttons arranged in a 2x2 square that send viewers to 4 submenus. Each submenu has three buttons - play without subtitles, play with subtitles, return to main menu.
In any computer (we've tried it in 8: MACs and PCs) navigation of the main menu works perfectly using the mouse (although not the up/down left/right buttons on the keyboard... is THAT normal?).
But in the four DVD players in which we've tried it we cannot navigate to the button on the lower right using the buttons on their remote controls, although the other three buttons work just fine. This happens in our ancient $29 DVD player, in our brand new $1,000 blu-ray player and in everything in between.
I've looked at the programing and cannot find any difference between the buttons that work and the one that doesn't. The design preview perfectly and to add confusion a previous version of this disc (I had to link one timeline to new media) plays perfectly in any player.
I'm stumped. I'd be panicked except for the fact that, post sign-off, the client has decided to make just one more little change in the video, so I have another couple of days.
    Thanks, JP

Misters Simon and Jones - THAT WAS IT !!!
I'm a newby and self-taught with a long way to go.
I had stumbled across this screen while working on another project weeks ago, but at that moment I was working to deadline and did not pay the least attention to it. Of course, when I tried to go back to the screen I hadn't the faintest idea where it was or what the screen/process was called and, so, had no way to look it up.
It wasn't until you said "Button Routing" that it clicked. THAT sounded like it was exactly the problem, so I trolled HELP and found the answer. Thanks for the very useful stab in the dark.
My test DVD hasn't finished burning, so I'm not absolutely sure myproblem is solved, but I am very confident you have directed me to the solution.
I'm working studio production today and through the weekend, but before I go incommunicado for 4 days, I wanted to say "Thanks a bunch".

  • IDVD will burn but will eject before burn ends

I used to use iDVD a lot few years ago to make home videos DVDs. That time, iDVD burned almost all DVDs, when it didn't burn my DVD I could put a new DVD on the driver and start all over again and would burn. That time I used those normal 4.7 GB DVDs. Now I went to buy those dual layer DVDs because I have a big project to record (3 dual layer DVDs). I put the DVD on the driver, put it to record on iDVD, wait about one hour and then it randomly eject the DVD and on the screen the DVD was still burning. I thought it was like those times take I would put a new DVD to the driver and start all over again and it would burn, but I tried three times now and lost three DVDs now and nothing seems to work. But I'm concerned about one thing. In May the computer broke, they had to replace all the keyboard and trackpad part and also said to me that the internal HD had a physical problem and if I didn't change that HD the computer would stop sometime. As i had spent much money on the keyboard/trackpad change I said that I didn't wanted to do that now. Until today it have been very nice with that supposed "broke" HD. It imported and exported about 14 videos big videos (20 minutes to 50 minutes), have done the time machine when I want, etc. I'm very desperate and have to record those DVDs until next week. Sorry for the long text.

    OK
So You made an .img file
Double click on it and You find a new Hard Disk alike icon containing two folders - VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS
Then in Your Program/Application folder You'll find DVD-player tool.
Run this and test the Virtual DVD (Hard Disk look alike icon)
    Then if all is OK
    Start - Disk Util tool
Then select the .img file (on left hand side)
Click on the BURN sign (Yellow/Black Circle)
When asked - Insert new DVD disk
    Now set DOWN BURN SPEED
    OK
Good Luck - Yours Bengt W

  • Apple Pro RES and DVD Studio Pro    for burning DVDS

I have a FCP file, shot in HD, 5.5 min long, in apple pro res. It needs to be in a format to send to various people to play on a commercial DVD player as well on apple and pc computers. So far I have made a H264, as well as a MPEG 2 on a "-" dvd and both will play only on my mac computer, not on a playstation 3, nor a pc, nor a commercial DVD player. What should I do?

so sorry I sounded curt....must be the heat.
I have zero experience. Someone was helping me compress my final cut pro movie which was apple pro res, then , in compressor we tried H.264, then MPEG 2, using "-", but neither of these would play on anything other than my mac.
I need them to be in a format that I can send to people who may be using a pc, mac or commericial DVD player.
It's very nice of you to reply....

  • How do I transfer my film from final cut pro to DVD studio pro and burn it?

Any other format to try burn? Do I just need a new DVD player? I'll hope they have a newer one.
Thanks - I am running out of time.

    Hi Patti,
    welcome to this forum
there's no such thing as "DVDVCPRO"-video-dvd.... that is just an export option in iM for.... you're short in time, forget it...
in Toast 6.1.1. (you need the latest update), choose "video" and simply drag'n drop your whole iM project (NO export needded!) into it - boom, done...
post here progress of your project, the European dayshift is awake ;-))

  • Uploaded mp4 from my phone but does not play in Quicktime Player

I recorded a video with my Pantech Matrix phone and exported it to my computer. I double click the file or use the "open with" and an error message pops up saying document can not be opened. I try opening with ITunes or IMovie and the programs itself are opened but not my video.
I just bought my MacBook Pro in March so everything should be relatively updated. I CAN watch the same video in Windows Media Player on my PC... please help.

There are many, many video formats and frankly most manufacturers assume everybody is running Windows and just design for that. Some things to try:
[VLC media player|http://www.videolan.org/vlc> - general media player that plays just about anything.
[Perian codecs for Quicktime|http://www.perian.org] - plugins to add functionality to Quicktime for playing additional audio and video formats
[Quicktime audio problems, Perian, VLC|http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=9013669] - read note about uninstalling prior DIVX support before installing Perian.
If you think the format is WMV then you need to install [Free Flip4mac QuickTime player components|http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/wmcomponents.ms px]
After installation a new Flip4Mac pane will appear in System Preferences. Make sure you set the boxes to ensure that it will play WMV files in Quicktime.

  • Quick and Dirty "Chapters" with DVD Studio Pro?

Ok, so here is my workflow:
I have a project in FCP.  It's one large 60 minute file broken into segments from start/stop in my timeline.
    - I am going to export this to a quicktime reference file (uncompressed, 10bit)
    - Then use Compressor to turn the uncompressed movie file into MPG and AC3 video and audio format
    - Import the mpg and the ac3 into DVD Studio Pro as a track, set to play on dvd start
    - then burn the DVD
My question is, is there any quick way to lay down chapter markers where the segments are so that when I put the DVD into a regular DVD player I can just skip to the next clip with the DVD remote?  (My source is one large 60 minute file with about 30 start/stop points in FCP)
I just want to be able to scan the disc in the DVD player with the remote control without having to use the "search/speed" buttons to manually scan all the footage.
If this is a noob question, and I am missing something, please explain.
    - I DO know how to add chapter markers in Compressor (and FCP), but am not sure if that translates to DVD studio in the output file, and I'd really like to do it in FCP because the segment start/stop points are already in my timeline.
    Thanks!

1st, a QT reference movie is the same compression as the original files, not uncompressed.  Once you're workign with a compression scheme (HDV, DVCPRO-HD, NTSC-DV) going to uncompressed does absolutly nothing for you, it does not add quality, just gives you larger than nessisary file sizes.  If you export, use either a QT reference movie (there is no choice of compression scheme), or a ProRes QT.
If you want the best quality, go directly from the FCP Timeline to Compressor, don't export anything.
If your chapter markers in FCP are Chapter markers, go directly to Compressor, use one of the DVD preset folders, the chapter markers will translate into DVD SP.  You can than use DVD SP's automated chapter menu function to get things done fast, create Stories for more complex functioning, etc.
This is old, FCP/Compressor parts may be outdated now, but the DVD SP part is still valid.  Shows that functioning I'm talking about.

  • DVD Studio Pro DVD won't play in DVD player

I created a movie in Final Cut Pro 7, sent it to Compressor, and created a DVD using DVD Studio Pro.  When I try to play the DVD on my DVD player it says that it "can't play the disc."  The movie files from Compressor are "Sequence 1- Dolby Digital Professional 2.0.ac3" and "Sequence 1-MPEG-2 6.2Mbps 2-pass.m2v."  The project is set to SD DVD, being put on DVD+R discs, and I haven't had any warnings in the Log while creating the DVDs.
I've tried just using the "burn" button and also using "build & format" but neither work.  It will play on my Macbook, but I need it to play on the DVD player.  I also need to burn about 30 working discs in the next two days.  Please Help!!!!

You need to start a new DVDSP project for the setting to change from HD to SD.
    Good luck.

  • H.264 to DVD Studio Pro

I am new to this but why in Compressor does it say I can use H.264 for DVD Studio Pro and then DVD studio pro only sees it as a audio file???

I have the same problem with 1080p25 h264 .mov file created with compressor HD DVD settings.
DVD Studio Pro 4.2.1 Release notes claim that :
DVD Studio Pro now correctly supports the following H.264 formats for native use in PAL HD projects:
    720p25
    720p50
    1080p25
Native support means that the files are not reencoded when they are imported into the appropriate NTSC or PAL HD project. In some cases, however, frames may be set to repeat during playback to create the HD DVD specification’s required frame rate.
But DVD Studio Pro seams to only see the audio part of the .mov file.
720p video works fine. The problem is only with 1080p video. I guess there is a bug somewhere...
    Could somebody confirm this ?
