DVD Stutter and Stall

I am having a heck of a time making DVD’s that don’t stall or stutter, I guess I need a starting point.
What I do is stop frame capture 8mm and super8mm film, it plays on a special projecter and is passed through my Canon HD video camera to my computer.  It uses a program called CineCap for the capture and then the speed change.
My computer uses the following
Intel I-5-2400 cpu 310 GHz
20GB Ram
Win & 64 bit SP1
AMD Radeon HD 6800
After I get the avi file on the hard drives I import and work it in Premiere Pro CS4 then I have done exports at varying rates and also Dynamic Like to Encore.  I have even tried taking the exported videos and used Win DVD maker  but everything stutters.
My last attempt was done with these numbers

Thanks any help would be appreciated

Well I have tried the scaling down to SD and video looks goof but still full of jitters.
I have tried slowest possible burns on two different computers using ISO files and things are still very inconstant.
I am to the point of saying it is my Verbatim and Sony media is the problem.
in the world this week what are the best media to use?  I have been using -R for years but I am seeing that +R is better.  I would like to use printable disk if possible but a good nonprintable is better than a printable coaster, I already have a bunch of those
Thanks

  • T520 - 42435gg / Sound stutter and slow Graphic performance with Intel Rapid Storage AHCI Driver

    Hi everybody,
I have serious Problems with my 42435gg
Any time I install the Intel Storage AHCI Driver (I've tried plenty of different versions) which is suggested by System Update I experience a horrible Sound stutter and slow Graphic performance in Windows 7 64-Bit.
The funny thing in this case: If the external e-sata port is connected the problems do not occur. If the port is unused again, the stutter begins immediately.
The only thing I can do is using the Windows internal Storage Driver with which I am not able to use my DVD recorder for example.
The device was sent to lenovo for hardware testing with no result. It was sent back without any repairing.
    Anybody experience on this?
    Kind regards,
    Daniel

Did you try the 11.5 RST beta? Load up DPClat and see if DPC conditions are favorable.
What are you using to check graphics performance?

  • HD DVD encoding and playback problem

    Hello,
we are running into a problem with some HD dvd authoring lately. We are using 1920x1080 23.98fps film based source material and encode it for HD DVD use with compressor. Like it says in the documentation we are using the hd dvd presets and just adjust the output to 720P for an H.264 encode. Apparently since the last upgrade to DVD studio 4.2 it is now possible to encode progressive h.264 with a framerate of 23.98 fps. Well as i said we encode the footage with compressor, import it into DVDSP 4.2 and include it into our project. Everything works fine until we put it into our DVD player (Toshiba HD-A20). The menus and everything works and looks great, but when we are playing the 720P 23.98fps H.264 clips we get a way too fast playing clip, basically as if it is trying to play it at 29.97 fps. Does anyone else run into that problem? First we thought it is the player, but then we tried playing the disc in our Macpro and the same problem. 1920x1080 works great with Mpeg2 29,97fps compression, even though, because we have film based 23.98fps source material it seems to stutter slightly. I wonder if we need to include 2:3 pulldown in order for the player to remove it properly. Any help would be great.
    Thanks,
    Gorilla

    Harm,
Sorry for not responing for a few days, but I runned the benchmark you'll send me. The main results (dee details attached file):
    53,6,  secs Total Benchmark Time
    6,4,  secs AVI  Encoding Time
    14,2,  secs MPEG Elapsed Time
    33,  secs Rendering Time
Since the potential problem is my hard disk, inaddition, I runned HDtune (hopefully it will help pinpionting the problem):
disk1: avarage transfer rate: 94MB/s, acces time 13.8ms, burst rate 185MB/s
disk2: avarage transfer rate: 85MB/s, acces time 14ms, burst rate 157MB/s
disk3: avarage transfer rate: 73MB/s, acces time 13.9ms, burst rate 183MB/s
Analyzing these results, could the current hard disk configuration cause the problem I have, or is my system to slow anyway to edit AVCHD material?
If the hard disk configuration is the problem, could it be solved by applying your suggestion by removing all partitions? Since, I'm not looking forward of removing all partions(re-installing windows (dual boot win7 and vista), shifting a huge amount of data, etc), but if it would help I will do it.
    Thanks inadvance,
    Jeffrey

  • [VIA] KT4Ultra - Sounds Pop, Click and Stall

    Hey folks -
I hope someone can help here.  I am running a KT4 Ultra with an Athlon 1800 MHz chip, all of the latest drivers, and sound files are driving me nuts!  The audio clicks and pops and "stalls" for miniscule amounts of time while playing.  It is especially noticeable when playing a video/DVD, as eventually the stalls add up to a multi-second delay between video and audio.  It is really frustrating watching a movie and having the characters move their mouths, only to hear their words during the next scene!
I REALLY don't know what could be causing this, but it is driving me nuts.  I am using the C-Media 8738MX chips on the board for my audio.  Should I purchase a separate sound board, or do I need to change some sort of settings?
    Thanks very much in advance.
    Garry Wakely

For a while I tried to use that integrated C-Media, but it just didn't work. I'm not sure is the chip piece of s*it or are the drivers just bad, but I suffered from great number of blue screens (1-2 per day) in games. Some times it also caused crashes when Windows (98SE, this happened 2002) was loading. This drove me almost insane, but luckily I eventually found out that C-media was to blame. I purchased Philips Audigy Edge, and everything has been working perfectly since.

  • Button action with desk DVD player and PC player

    HI!
I built and burn a DVD with one menu with several buttons triggering different chapters. Before the menu I have a small introduction clip.
This works perfectly on my desk DVD player, but on any computer I get the introduction clip, then the menu, but the buttons don't have any action. Did I forget something.
    Thank you

    Thanks for the info.
Interesting, that they work fine in Preview and on set-top player. I do not have/know WinDVD, so I'm not sure of what problems it might have. I happen to use other software DVD players, and so far, they all work like my set-tops and Preview.
I'm assuming that when the left-mouse button is over your Button and pushed, nothing happens. Does the Button Highlight? Your described PS work should not have altered the Button's ability to function. If they work elsewhere, they *should* work in a software player. I assume that ALL Buttons exhibit this behavior?
Maybe someone can help with WinDVD. Might be something very simple, that's just beyond my knowledge.
Other than to say your Project looks good in detail, I can't really help - sorry.

  • Getting Ripped DVD Video and Audio Into Encore

Do you have previously authored DVDs that need rework?  Do you want to add menus with greater impact and functionality?  Do you want to add some additional program or supplemental material?  Does a client want their product demo DVD to be updated to reflect the capabilities of the new and improved version, but the source files no longer exist?  Using Adobe Encore DVD and a freeware utility called DVD Decrypter (DVDD), you can accomplish this quickly and easily.
Disclaimer: I do not support the illegal copying and/or distribution of copyrighted works.  The authors and distributors of the software I use have made it clear that they do not support illegal copying.  This guide is intended solely to assist you in ripping and copying DVD video to which you have the legal rights.  Any use of this guide to infringe the copyright of someone else’s intellectual property is prohibited.
This guide is based on Adobe Encore DVD 1.5.1 and DVD Decrypter version 3.5.4.0.  Let’s Begin!
Place the DVD to be ripped in your DVD drive and launch DVDD.  If you have more than one drive (e.g., a DVD-ROM and a DVD burner) make sure the one with the disc is selected in the Source dropdown list in the main program window.  Now we need to set up DVDD to extract video in a way that is “Encore friendly”.  This is the toughest part of the whole exercise.  Click on the Tools menu item and choose “Settings…”.
    Settings
General Tab: You can leave these set at their defaults if you like.  Personally, I specify a custom Default Destination.  I put my ripped video assets all in one place anyway, and having a default destination means I have one less thing to do when I rip a DVD.
IFO Mode Tab: Make sure that “Select Main Movie PGC” and “Enable Stream Processing” are checked.  “Uncheck Suspect Cells” is probably a good default safety check.  If your hard disks are formatted as NTFS, set File Splitting to “None”.  I leave “Copy IFO File” checked with the default sub-items checked.  Make sure that “Patch M2V Timecode” is unchecked.  The items in the Create Additional Files section are purely optional.  The author of DVDD has been kind enough to list which programs need which files; notice that Encore DVD isn’t listed as needing any of these extra files.  I do keep the “Stream Information” box checked.  DVDD generates very informative file names, but I like to keep “Include PGC Number” under File Names checked.  Be advised you will get some lengthy file names after DVDD is finished ripping.
Stream Processing Tab: Since we enabled stream processing in the IFO Mode tab, we need to tell DVDD how to process those streams.  To save yourself time and confusion later, check the “Convert PCM to WAV” box.  Earlier versions of Encore required a Demuxed audio stream and a Raw video stream.  Encore 1.5.1 can accept either type of video stream (Raw or Demuxed) but it does still require a Demuxed audio stream.  However, I still recommend using Raw video and Demuxed audio, if only because it seems to be somewhat faster to process in DVDD.  This workflow is also backward-compatible with earlier versions of Encore.
So let’s set up the Stream Processing tab now.  In the Demux box, enter “0x8? 0xA? 0xC?”.  This ensures that all audio streams in the selected PGC, whether AC3, PCM or MPEG will be set to Demux.  In the Raw box, enter “0xE0”.  This ensures that the video from the selected PGC will be set to Raw.
Additional Notes about the Stream Processing Tab:
    1. For those of you asking the question, “What the heck is a PGC?” it’s just DVD-speak for the titles in a DVD project.  And I’m not talking about the opening or end credits, either; I’m talking about the titles that result, for example, from the timelines you create in an Encore DVD project.  There is a subtle difference between a PGC and a VTS (title set), but that's not important right now.
    2. Happily, recent versions of DVDD create a WAV file after ripping that will import directly into Encore.  Versions prior to 3.2.0.0 would create a WAV file that had to be imported to, and exported from, a sound editing program like Adobe Audition, Goldwave or SoundForge before Encore would recognize it.
Events Tab: For convenience sake, I recommend setting “Set Program Mode” in the Startup section to “IFO”.  That way, whenever you launch DVDD, it will look familiar to you.  You may safely ignore all of the other tabs in the Settings dialog.
    Ripping
1.Under the Input Tab of the main program window, select the PGC you want to rip.  You can only do one at a time.
2.Switch to the Stream Processing Tab.  Verify that Enable Stream Processing is checked.
3.Check or uncheck any or all of the video and audio streams that are listed.  Highlight each one to verify that all audio streams are set to Demux and the video stream is set to Raw.
4.If you didn’t select Default Destination in the General Settings Tab, then you need to tell DVDD where to put the ripped files now.
5.Click on the big DVD-to-Disk icon.
6.DVDD will announce, quite loudly, when it has finished.  At that point you can rename the files or import them as is into Encore.
I hope you find this guide useful and that it helps you get the most out of your investment in Adobe Encore DVD.

OK, I can't tell you what we are doing, you'll have to trust me that it's for a very good cause. I'll simplify the use case as an example. If I can do the following we'll be OK:
    1) Read video/audo files from a DVD that we created
    2) Open these files with the QuickTime Player, click on Export to Apple TV to create an output file.
I'd rather not do an interim conversion of the video data (like use a 3rd party app to convert to mp4 first and then read into QT, but I'm considering a conversion to DV) because that could seriously hurt the apps effectiveness. I also can't use another app (MPEG Streamclip, HandBrake, VisualHub, etc.) to do the conversion.

  • 6.0.3 Error During Disc Initialization for both DVD+R and Disc Image - Help

I've been a mac user for a few years now, but I just bought a new MacBook, and my first superdrive! I'm all excited to test out the new hardware along with iDVD.
I've made a rather simple DVD setup and the first time through it was encoding for about an hour and then it gave an error message which I don't recall other than it mentioned QT7. I ran updater, no new updates that I needed and I tried again, and from then on I've been getting the Error During Disc Initialization message when burning to my DVD+Rs or when I try and save as a disc image (yes, I've deleted the encoding assets). I have about 20GB free on HDD, and I'm trying to burn approx. 100min of video. I've rebooted multiple times, and I've remade my project a couple times but no dice.
    Any idears?
      Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    What hardware do you have???
You didn't answer Sue's question about free space on
your start-up drive. You should have 20GB+ free.
What are you sending to iDVD?
Verbatim DVD-R, not DVD+R, are very reliable, unlike
    TDK and Memorex.
    Also look here:

I am running on a 2.0 ghz MacBook with a SuperDrive using Sony DVD+R. I will definitely pick up some Verbatim DVD-Rs though to see if that makes iDVD happy.
I have cleared up some room and now I have around 50GB free.
I am trying to make a DVD of two seperate .mp4s of a soccer game. I have 3 pictures and two buttons.

  • CD/DVD drive does not read all DVD formats and regions

    Hi
My Teac-dw-224e-a does not read all DVDs formats and regions.
It does read CDs but no DVDs at all.
Not DVD-R and not even regular DVDs. I have checked the region of the DVD.
I have reinstalled the driver and also tried with different software.
    What can I do?
    Please help!

    Hi
It is possible that your DVD drive has wrong region settings.
In this case it is not able to watch all possible DVD movies from different regions.
Of course you can change the settings 4 times. But after this changing the settings are fixed and its not possible to change it anymore.

  • Disk Utility won't burn a .cdr image to DVD – why and what do I do?

I've burned DVDs before and I've had success with my MB Pro.  I know the steps and use this support article as a refresher each time to assure I'm following all the steps.  Yesterday and today I've tried to burn 2 different .cdr images made with Disk Utility to blank DVDs without success.  It starts to copy and within less than 2 minutes, I get the message:
"Unable to burn 'xxx.cdr' (The disc can't be burned; it might be incompatible with this disc drive.  Please try a different brand of disc, or try burning at a slower speed.)"
I tried 3 different blank DVDs (they are DVD+Rs 16x|4.7GB), 2 different brands (TDK & Sony) but no success.
What's going on and what do I do to troubleshoot and resolve this problem?
    Thanks!

Neither TDK nor Sony are considered reliable or quality media. Most of us here use Verbatim DVD-R and burn at only 2x or 4x.

Hi, Can anyone recommended software to import dvd to iMovies. I need to import about a dozen homemade DVD's and edit them into a single DVD comprising the 'best bits'. How best can I do this. I have an external hard drive available for the job

You need to convert the VOB files in the TS-Folder of the DVD back to DV which iMovie is designed to handle. For that you need mpegStreamclip:
    http://www.squared5.com/svideo/mpeg-streamclip-mac.html
which is free, but you must also have the  Apple mpeg2 plugin :
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/D2187Z/A/quicktime-mpeg-2-playback-component-f or-mac-os-x
(unless you are running Lion in which case see below))
    which is a mere $20.
Another possibility is to use DVDxDV:
    http://www.dvdxdv.com/NewFolderLookSite/Products/DVDxDV.overview.htm
    which costs $25.
For the benefit of others who may read this thread:
Obviously the foregoing only applies to DVDs you have made yourself, or other home-made DVDs that have been given to you. It will NOT work on copy-protected commercial DVDs, which in any case would be illegal.
And from the TOU of these forums:
    Keep within the Law
No material may be submitted that is intended to promote or commit an illegal act.
Do not submit software or descriptions of processes that break or otherwise ‘work around’ digital rights management software or hardware. This includes conversations about ‘ripping’ DVDs or working around FairPlay software used on the iTunes Store.
If you are running Lion or later:
    From the MPEG Streamclip homepage
The installer of the MPEG-2 Playback Component may refuse to install the component in Lion. Apple states the component is unnecessary in Lion onwards, however MPEG Streamclip still needs it. See this:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3381
To install the component in Lion, please download MPEG Streamclip 1.9.3b7 beta above; inside the disk image you will find the Utility MPEG2 Component Lion: use it to install the MPEG-2 Playback Component in Lion. The original installer's disk image (QuickTimeMPEG2.dmg) is required.
The current versions of MPEG Streamclip cannot take advantage of the built-in MPEG-2 functionality of Lion. For MPEG-2 files you still need to install the QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component, which is not preinstalled in Lion. (The same applies to Mountain Lion even though that has it preinstalled.) You don't have to install QuickTime 7.

  • Daisy chain set up dual DVD writers and dual drives

Which comes first in a daisy chain? I have dual sets of DVD burner/external drives connected to a hub as two sets. With each set should I hub to the DVD burner or hub to the external drive first in the daisy chain or does it matter?

To restate and update now that I know a little more.
I have a C2D Intel Santa Rosa mini 2GHz/2GB with one Firewire 400 port and four USB2 ports.
I jumper from the mini FWa to the Apple 20in monitor which then gives me two FWa ports as a hub sharing bandwidth for four separate units - two LaCie d2 Quads, a Sony DVD burner, and a LG DVD burner in a Ratoc enclosure. Since I don't use everything at once, that's okay. My main use is one or the other of the DVD burners. The Sony is Region 1 and the LG is region free for some international DVDs.
Viewing DVDs with this setup using VLC and a Logicool speaker setup works fine.
I have a fifth unit which is a Maxtor FWa/USB2 drive connected to a USB port.
When I do DV capture I disconnect all devices from the single FWa on the mini and use it for the camcorder with capture into the internal drive. The files are moved to one of the external FW drives with the USB as the scratch disk.
I haven't tried to capture on the USB drive so that's still ahead of me. My Canon camcorder will not daisy chain using FW.
As I see it, the mini is okay. A MacBook would not gain me anything since it has a single FWa port. A MacBook Pro would not gain me anything, with one exception, since both FWa for the camcorder and FWb for the external drive are on the same bus. The iMacs are the same. I'd have to move to the Mac Pro to start getting an advantage.
The lone exception for the MBP is using an Express Card for eSATA. I could put the camcorder on the FWa port and a LaCie Quad on the eSATA port card. Since the LaCie Quad has FW it could also be used for an external boot if needed away from home. At home the MBP would still drive the 20in Apple monitor.
Mac mini, MBP or Mac Pro are my choices. The least expensive, yet still suitable, is the mini. It runs iMovie 08, iMovie HD for a little more editing oomph, and FCE 4 if I want still more editing stuff.
Thanks for pitching in an clarifying some things for me. 8-)
