DVD Submenu using Encore (CS4)

I have 8 chapters on my DVD; all with identical intro footage. Can I select footage for DVD Submenu so they all don't look the same?

Welcome to the forum.
I think what you're asking about is having video thumbnail buttons showing different parts of the clips and not just the intro.  If so, then set a Poster Frame for each chapter where you want the video for that chapter to start.

  • Blu-ray says capacity too big when burning DVD Rom Folder Encore CS4

I have tried 3 times now to burn a Blu-ray Image file with a DVD rom Content Folder. The Blu-ray Image size is 45.90gb and the content folder is 1.6gb. The disk is a Sony DL 50gb Blu-ray. I have not tried to burn direct to disk because cost of Blu-rays. I am using Encore CS4. Is it that you cannot make an image file with DVD-rom for DL Blu-rays. Is there a number preset by Adobe for image file size for DL Blu-ray. Please help

45.90 GB on your hard drive and 1.6 GB on your hard drive add up to 47.60 GB.
In computer GB, (47.60 x 2^30) that's over 51 billion bytes. Sony and other blank media manufacturers report the capacity of their blank discs in normal GB (50 x 10^9), or 50 billion bytes.
Your project is too big to fit on the blank media that you have.

  • Dual Layer 'Navigaion Failure' on DVD Build in Encore CS4

    All,
I've searched the forum and see several post regarding dual layer DVD burning, but none recent.
I'm trying to burn a dual layer DVD ( Memorax DVD+R DL), using Encore CS4.   Everything encodes fine, but when Encore starts to actually burn the DVD, I get an error message "navigation build failed' (or something like that, I don't have it in front of me right now).  And yes, I did select the correct size DVD setting.  :-)
Does anyone had this trouble or have any suggestions?
    TIA,
    jd

    JD,
I would scrap the Memorex blank discs, and use Verbatim instead. Memorex has a very unpopular business model - buy the absolutely cheapest media from whomever and emboss the Memorex label onto it. In spindles of 100, users have reported up to 4 different mfgrs. stuff. One might get 10 discs that work, and then 10 that flat do not. There are several utilities that will tell you who the actual mfgr. is and the lot number. I just use the free burning utility, ImgBurn, as it will read the blank disc and report.
Now, Memorex is an easy target for me, and one of the "usual suspects," so there could be something else going on. Just in case there is, please give the full details of your Project, with Asset types, specs., and how your navigation is setup, and especially the Layer Break.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

The crash report that you posted says the crash occurred during an OpenGL instruction. This means that there is a problem with OpenGL in your current graphics card drivers. I would suggest you do some research online about your graphics card model and its OpenGL 2.0 support. Perhaps there are others out there with similar issues in other OpenGL based applications.
    Here are a
few more troubleshooting tips you can try, if you still have the strength for it. I'm sorry you're having such a hard time, but we'll try to get you through it.

  • Creating DVD menus in Encore CS4

I have only very briefly experimented with trying to create a DVD menu for my Premier Pro CS4/Encore CS4 projects.  I must say I have found it not at all intuitive.
    Can anyone please:
1: Recommend a nice clear tutorial on how to create DVD menus in PPro CS4/Encore CS4
    and/or:
2:  Recommend a nice simple not-too-costly programme with which I can create DVD menus from my PPro CS4/Encore CS4 projects.
The menus which come with Encore seem pretty naff, too.  If anyone can recommend some simple software which has nicer ones I'd be grateful.
    Thanks all!

Unless PSE 9 has changed things, the big limitation in using Photoshop Elements is that it cannot create the Button Layer Sets, but can edit them, from the Library Menus. Photoshop has no such limitation.
I do not know if GIMP can do the Menus, but it is often recommended as a free alternative for PS. As I have PS, I have not even seen that program in decades.
One additional source for pre-made Menus is Muvipix. These are free to subscribers, and for sale to non-subscribers. Also, they are done as PrE Menu Sets, but can be broken down and modified to function as stand-alone Menus for Encore.
There is a source for pre-made Menus, in the UK, but last time I checked they were heavily weighted to weddings.
Personally, I just start with a Library Menu, and modify/build what I need in PS.

  • How do i get to burn dvd's using Encore without giving away admin rights?

    Hi All,
We currently have a new diploma running using CS4. When attempting to burn a project using encore it will let me make it as an administrator but as soon as i transfer to any other user without the same access rights i lose the option to burn and recieve the option "not found" Can anybody give me feedback regarding this issue or is it one of those cases where you really do just need to be an admin?
    Many Thanks,
    Ross

Many Thanks for responding. After all this my boss did a bit of searching and we have found a fix i will post the info he found below to help others if they need limited users to burn dvds/cds.
    regards,
    Ross
SPTI is available to Administrators only. Microsoft designed it like this, don't blame me!
Here is a quick workaround for those people wanting to stick with SPTI:
    1. Log in as an Administrator
    2. Click 'Start' -> 'Run'
    3. Type 'secpol.msc' and hit OK
    4. Expand 'Local Policies'
    5. Click 'Security Options'
    6. Change 'Devices: Restrict CD-ROM access to locally logged-on user only' from 'Disabled' to 'Enabled'
    7. Close the 'Local Security Settings' window
    8. Log on as your restricted user and try again.
Note: Only tested on XP and Server 2003. Wording may differ on other operating systems.
*****This setting is also in group policy, under Policies, Windows Settings, Security Settings, Local Policies/Security Options , and can be used to modify all machines in the domain ****************
Windows XP Home Edition doesn't have 'secpol.msc' so you'll have to edit the registry directly.
Open up RegEdit and navigate to the following key:
    HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon
Add a new String called 'allocatecdroms' and set its value to '1'.
0 = Administrators in the domain can gain access to data on the compact discs in the CD-ROM drive.
1 = Only the user logged on locally can gain access to data on the compact discs in the CD-ROM drive.
See here for more info: http://technet.micro...y/cc957388.aspx
If you're not confident enough to make the registry change manually, you can use a program called 'FrogRights' to make the change for you... or just import the following registry file:
    allocatecdroms.reg (110bytes)
    Number of downloads: 332
Please note: You'll need to be logged in as an Administrator to import the registry file and you'll need to reboot having done so.
Yet another option is to use the Nero BurnRights tool. I believe this actually modifies the permissions on the device object (for some, this might be better than changing the group policy option). You can also use it to setup a security group that you can then add certain users to rather than giving everyone access to burn discs.
ImgBurn supports several other I/O interfaces besides SPTI and there's always a chance that one of the others is already installed on your machine. Go into the Settings and change the 'Interface' option on the 'I/O' tab to see if any of the others will work for you.
If none of them do you'll have to install an application that installs one of the other supported I/O interfaces and then tell ImgBurn to use it.
    i.e.
You can use ElbyCDIO by installing some software from Elaborate Bytes or SlySoft - i.e. CloneDVD or Virtual CloneDrive.
You can use Patin-Couffin by installing some software from VSO Software - i.e. VSO Inspector.

  • Audio in DVD authoring using Encore

I'm authoring DVDs in Encore and I have all of it going well with a motion menu in the bg and six motion buttons but there is no sound in any of the videos after I burn the DVD. The menu has no sound, but that is purposeful. Where should I be checking to

Thanks to the fast reply! Wow. I'm in Encore CS6 6.0.1.013 and to 'build'  which I assume is their term for burning... I've selected Format: DVD Output: DVD disc. The destination is the disc on my desktop coming from a Samsung external DVD player/recorder.
Even when I scroll down into an area you can't see on this attachment, I don't see anything about audio. When I bring the Preview dropdown up, and try playing the video thumbs after they've been rendered, they all have sound. Somewhere in the burning process, I haven't selected something.
The other thing that just happened now, is that the highlighted video motion thumb:
won't connect to the right mov clip. It was working fine for the past few days. I highlighted OCEAN, then
dragged the link from the right to the left Ocean, but it won't insert the clip anymore... just the Default title frame
"media offline" but it's on my hard drive as an mov file, in the place where all the others are..
    Thanks again...

  • Constant battle to Burn DVD's using Encore

    Hello,
I have so many problems with this program that it's hard to just name one. I never have any other applications running at the same time as Encore. I've turned off almost all the background apps/starter apps also. All my drivers are up to date.
Here's a short list of my problems-
Sometimes the Program will not open fully and just freeze.
It somehow corrupts Photoshop Menu's...randomly. Causing me to have to clear them out of the project and reload another version.
4 out of 5 times I have not been able to Preview a project before exporting it. Previewing will either crash the program or freeze it or, very rarely, work.
Will not open projects randomly. Sometimes to fix this I have to restart or Copy the files into a new location.
Error message right after clicking Build - "was not found." <---- Seriously, that's the entire error message. I have not been able to fix this one.
Solutions - (This are often just hit and miss. Completely random. Sometimes it will work just long enough for me to burn a project, and then stop working again)  - I tried to open the project in another Windows Account. Constant restarts. I never transcode with Encore anymore.
    My computer specs -
    Windows Vista 64bit Buiness
    Intel Xeon Quadcore X3350 2.66GHz
    4x2 GB SDRAM 1066
    Gigabyte X48-DQ6
    Nvidia Geforce GTX 295
    Creative Sound Blaster Soundcard
    4 Sata II 7200rpm Harddrives
Has anyone found permanent solutions to any of these problems? Any suggestions on what I can do? Please help
    Thank you very much,
    Trace

    Trace,
If something in this ARTICLE does not help you, I am at a total loss. I have had nothing but perfection from Encore, but have to admit that I am still on En 2.0, so that does not help, as I believe that you are on CS4.
Maybe others with CS4 can address the specific issues that you are facing.
    Good luck,

  • Encore CS4 suddenly crashing on startup

I have been using Adobe Production Premium CS4 for several months now with mostly no problems... crash here and there but nothing major. While using Encore to author a Blu-Ray disc, the software crashed when I transitioned from Photoshop back to Encore. I was editing a menu in Photoshop like I have done millions of times before, with minimal crashes. I shutdown and walked away for the day. When I came back the next day and started Encore it immediately gave me a crash report screen, and has given me a crash report screen every time since, it does not even make it to the splash screen. I have tried the OpenGL solution, no good. Tried the Version Cue startup solution, no good. Latest video drivers, audio drivers, etc, etc. Tried the user settings folder removal solution, no good. Even tried re-installing the entire suite, no good.
This makes no sense to me. I have successfully used Encore CS4 to master close to 20 DVDs since the release. There were no changes to the system from one day to the next. Any ideas?
    CPU Specs:
    OS: Windows XP SP3
CPU: Dual Processors - Intel Xeon 3.2 GHz
GPU: Nvidia Quadro FX 3400/4400 256 Mb
    RAM: 2 GB DDR
    Sound: Creative Audigy

Did this by any chance start to happen after updating via the Adobe Updater to 4.0.1? This can - and does unless turned firmly off in preferences - run in the background.
There have been issues with the updated version not playing nice with certain NVidia cards.

  • Encore CS4 Suddenly Won't Open

I use Encore CS4 everyday. I just used it to render & burn a DVD and it worked perfectly. I closed Encore and tried to reopen it but it crashed. After a few seconds I got the Crash Report window saying that Encore has unexpectedly quit. I rebooted the computer and tried 3 more times and all I get is the Crash Report. I reinstalled Encore but the same thing happened. All my other CS4 programs work fine. I tried again to reinstall Encore, but now the CS4 Installer hangs during the initalization process and just stops.
AMD Phenom 9600 Quad Core, 3.20 GHz, 3.25 GB RAM, Windows XP Pro, Service Pack 3.

Your post #2 indicates that something is seriously wrong at the suite and maybe even the system level.
When was the last time you cleaned out all your temp files?  Scanned for viruses and trojans?  Used the system file checker to see if all your critical Windows files are uncorrupted?  Cleaned the Media Cache Database from either Pr or AE?  Tried trashing your preferences for En (and maybe Pr)?
Any, all or none of those things may help.  But the fact that you can't uninstall a program from Add/Remove programs indicates problems way beyond the fact that En won't open.  Hopefully you'll find a quick fix, but you should consider a full system format and reinstall as soon as time permits.

  • Encore CS4 crashes under Windows 7

Jeff – I hope this email method of getting a forum message up does work, as currently it’s impossible to sign in to the forums (just get an endless loop of flashing screens about signing in to the forums – great)
Anyway, I’m still trying to get CS2 up and running, and all I’m seeing is silly attempts by support and no progress since July.
My original case on this (#211070010) had the following action: 6th Aug I was sent a copy of CS4, which is useless as it can’t open my CS2 projects, which I reported. Then about 15th August I was asked if the CS2 fix I’d been sent had worked.  Since I hadn’t been sent anything I said ‘no’ and the case was then closed!
Then a new case (#184634426) was opened, and Support contacted me to ask what the problem was(!).  They then took over my PC one night and proved to themselves that CS4 didn’t work. They then downloaded Creative Suite CS3 to try Encore CS3 – the theory being that if CS3 could open CS2 projects, it could maybe save them in a format CS4 could open. Great idea, but what they installed was useless as Encore CS3 is in Production Suite, not Creative Suite. When they found that out, they gave up and disappeared and I’ve never seen them since, despite telling them they were looking in the wrong install package.
Anyway, I downloaded the right package, thinking I could try Encore CS3 on a 30-day trial, and if their theory worked, then good. If not I’m back to square 1 again.  BUT, even though I’ve said I want a 30-day trial, the stupid CS3 installer still wants a serial number, which I obviously don’t have.
So here we are again – 3 months down the track, a case open for over a month, nothing happening, and no end in sight.

    Jeff,
Encore CS4 crashes when I try and open Encore 2.0 projects with a meaningless error message that doesn’t tell me why it is crashing or how to fix the project to make it open it. And nobody can explain what the error message means or why it happens, so I have no clues as to how to address the problem.  I have used Encore CS4 to try and open all my old projects and basically if it’s a Premiere-only output file its happy, but if it’s an Encore-only built ‘slideshow’ project it will crash. Which means most of my projects won’t open.
I have also tried all the Adobe published tricks to fix ‘bad’ projects, which can change the error message to ‘Proxy stream does not support requested functionality’, which is also meaningless and no one can tell me what I should then do to address the underlying issue.
Encore CS3 may or may not work – I don’t know, as I can’t get it past asking for a serial number, even though I just want a 30-day test period to see if it can re-save the project to improve things for CS4
Encore DVD used to run fine before this stupid re-registering issue happened.
All this is on Windows 7 (yes, I know 2.0 isn’t ‘approved’ for Win7, but as I and many others have found, it runs fine).
I really don’t know why Adobe doesn’t just send us RegEdit instructions to turn on or off the bit that says ‘this program is registered’ and then we could all stop bothering you – it would be a much much simpler and cheaper fix for all of us, Adobe included, than all this farting around.

  • Encore CS4's Slideshow component= WORTHLESS

    Hi,
When I create slideshows in Adobe Encore CS4 and then build them, they look "fine" when played on a computer DVD player.
However, when playing the authored DVD on an actual DVD player attached to a TV, the playback is cropped, images come out extremely dark, and each song flickers at the start of the slideshow.
I've done a lot more testing of building slideshows in Adobe Encore CS4, before I came to this realization:
ADOBE ENCORE CS4 IS FAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAR WAYS OFF FROM BEING READY FOR PRODUCTION USE FOR SLIDESHOWS. DO NOT USE ADOBE ENCORE CS4 FOR ANY SORT OF ACTUAL PRODUCTION USE FOR SLIDESHOWS.
I am extremely frustrated how obvious that there was absolutely no quality assurance testing with Adobe Encore CS4. When you use Adobe Encore CS4, the whole feel of using the software is that it was totally rushed out the door at about 55% complete.
    My top complaints:
-When importing multiple images to the Encore library, occasional images do not get imported at all(WTF???????????????)
-images that are imported to the Encore library occasionally LOSE THEIR ORIGINAL ASSET when saving, closing, then re-opening a project.
-Encore CS4 slows down literally, exponentially, as you add a lot of images to the library. At about 500 images of about 3-4 megs each, my Core 2 Quad with 6 gigs of ram slows to a crawl.
-when in the slow state, Adobe Encore CS4 crashes randomly (and this slow state is when most of the slideshow editing needs to get done)
    -authored playback is cropped
-authored playback comes out extremely dark on DVD players
-99 slide limit, which is overcome by dividing the slideshow into two slideshows, but.. there is a long and awkward pause when shifting between two slideshows during playback
Using Adobe Encore CS4 for slideshows is gauranteed to leave an extremely bad user experience and some loss of respect for Adobe.
I have no choice but to learn what other DVD slideshow building software is out there. So far, Nero, and even Windows Movie Maker, which comes free with windows seems better than Adobe Encore CS4, in terms of building slideshows.

I've been using Adobe Encore CS4 to author Blu-Ray discs with slideshows on my iMac.  I've found a solution that seems to work well.  But I don't use the Encore slideshow editor for this purpose.
When I import high-quality 16:9 JPEG photos directly into Encore and build a slideshow using the Encore slideshow editor, the results are terrible when viewed on a big-screen HDTV connected to a Blu-Ray player.  The colors seem off, and the resolution is horrible.  There are all sorts of jagged edges and other artifacts.  A slideshow on a standard-definition DVD built using iPhoto and iDVD looks much better than a "high-definition" Blu-Ray slideshow built using the Encore CS4 slideshow feature.
A better solution is to simply build the slideshow in iPhoto, cropping the individual photos to 16:9 (or using the 16:9 setting on your digital still camera, if it has one), and export the iPhoto slideshow as a high-definition QuickTime movie file (*.mov).  You will have to play around a bit to find the option in iPhoto that allows custom export settings, but once you find it you can encode the entire slideshow using the H.264 codec with full 1920 x 1080 resolution.  Then you can import the resulting *.mov file into Encore as an asset, then create a timeline for it.  You basically treat it like a movie in Encore.  The final result looks great on my 1080p TV.  Breathtaking, in fact.
Encore CS4 for Mac seems to have lots of bugs in it.  For example, I just downloaded the latest update yesterday (I think it was 4.0.1).  Now, whenever I try to build a Blu-Ray project, I get an error message, no matter what I do.  Even if I start a new project from scratch.  So I had to use Apple Time Machine to restore the previous version of Encore (4.0.0.258), which works fine.
Another bug is that you can't change the title of an HD menu in Encore.  Encore has a very limited number of HD menus.  If you want to change the title of an HD menu from the generic one provided ("Our Travel Diaries", for example) to your own title ("Our 2009 Summer Vacation", for example), you can't do it in Encore.  Well, maybe YOU can.  But I can't figure out how to do it.  So I export the menu to Photoshop Elements, change the text there, and re-import it into Encore.  You can change the titles of buttons directly in Encore.  But not the actual menu title.
Also, Encore has caused trouble for me when I try burning Blu-Ray rewritable discs.  So I simply use Encore to create a *.iso image file, then burn it using Roxio Toast 10 Titanium.
Anyway, with these various workarounds, I'm finally able to create high-quality Blu-Ray discs with movies and slideshows that look great on my 60-inch Sony SXRD 1080p TV.
It's a shame that somebody doesn't produce a simple interlocking suite of consumer-grade Mac-compatible tools that can be used for the entire HD workflow from camera to Blu-Ray disc, similar to the way in which iMovie, iPhoto, and iDVD work for standard-definition DVDs.  Apparently, the latest version of Adobe Premiere Elements for Windows does this sort of thing.  But there's nothing equivalent for the Mac.  And Apple still seems to be dragging its feet with regard to Blu-Ray.
Some people have expressed the opinion that it's OK for Encore CS4 to include a slideshow editor that's essentially useless.  I tend to disagree.  Any significant feature that gets added to a piece of software and that's advertised as being useful ought to work at least reasonably well.  But then my background is in the hardware industry, not the software industry.  In hardware, even a minor glitch can cost a company millions of dollars in lost revenue, recalls, loss of customer confidence, etc.  Software designers, by contrast, seem to be able to get away with a degree of sloppiness that would quickly bankrupt a company in the hardware world.
However, I'm at least grateful that by using Encore CS4 in conjunction with Final Cut Pro, Compressor, iPhoto, Photoshop Elements, and Toast, I'm able to produce a very nice Blu-Ray disc that provides jaw-dropping picture and sound quality for movies and slideshows.

  • Encore CS4 freezing up on import and build

Using Encore CS4 and having problems in two different projects. In one, Encore freezes up when I attempt to import a large asset (it's a 1.4GB MP4 file). There is nothing else in the project - I'm trying to get started with it.
In a different project, everything goes well until I attempt to build the project, at which time Encore is once again freezing. In this project, I have two AVI files placed one after another and a single, very simple image as a menu - nothing fancy.
I'm running Vista with 2GB of RAM.
    Thanks in advance.

    robhuddles,
I'll assume that you are Exporting from PP CS4, as Encore CS4 is only bundled with it.
    Try a "test":
Export as DV-AVI (Video only), and PCM/WAV 16/48 (Audio only). Import the DV-AVI as a Timeline and the WAV as an Asset. Place the WAV on the Timeline with the DV-AVI. Link your Menu to it. I'd alter the "test" Menu, so there is only one Button and it Links to the Timeline. Set End Action of Timeline to Return to Menu. Check for errors, then Burn this "test" to a DVD RW. Does this work?
Note: I would start a new clean Project. You can Import>As Menu, your existing Menu, but DO modify it for this "test," so there is ONLY one Button. You do not want un-linked Buttons in the "test."

  • Encore Cs4 importing Fullhd Videos

I'm using Encore CS4 with all updates of adobe, and import a video (1920x1080) in the DVD project, it just hangs. Have any explanation for this?
    My computer:
    Intel C2Q Q9550 2,8
    8GB ram ddr2 800
    Video: 9800 GTX
    Asus P5k premium

In mpg2 exported on Media encoder...
I assume you are referring to Adobe Media Encoder, and you should get the same results using that or starting from Premiere. It is important that you use the MPEG2-DVD preset, not the plain MPEG2 preset.
You didn't answer the audio part of my question. Make sure that you set the export for "not multiplexed" so you get separate video and audio files.
