DVD Super Drive copying slowly

Hi,
can anyone help... my superdrive on a MBP C2D is copying data from DVD's very slowly. I'm trying to copy video TS folders from DVD's onto my desktop and it takes roughly an hour to copy 4gigs. That seems very slow.

If nothing else works for you, when you hear sound of drive trying to open after pressing keyboard eject button, strike the box of mac pro on both sides of the drawer with clenched fists.
I have been doing this for years.

Well, as far as the Recording part, then you need to burn it to a Disc, of which there are a few Apps to do it with.

  • DVD SUPER DRIVES THAT ARE COMPATIBLE...

    I have a g5 1.8 dp (8 slots)
    running 10.3.9
    W/ I-Life 5.0.1
My Pioneer 106D can't read dvds but will burn them.
I called customer service for a list of compatable superdrives that would work with I-life right out of the box and 10 minutes into the conversation I was told I had to go to the apple store because they aren't allowed to give out info on 3rd party companies.I go to the Apple store and I felt just because I didn't want to pay them $200 plus to replace and install(hard as a lightbulb) they wouldn't give me a list of compatible drives either. WHAT ELSE DOES A PAYING CUSTOMER HAVE TO DO TO GET A COMPATIBLE DRIVE W/O RUNNING IN CIRCLES? Anyways, they only said they'd replace it with the exact model. I told them I would want a faster drive since I'm paying for a replacement. They told me they can do that. So I then asked them what brand and model they'd use cause I wanted to buy it elsewhere, where it's cheaper. They said they didn't know what make or model is compatable???? That's pretty low if you asked me.
Sorry for the rant, I'm p'd off right now. Say what ya will about pc but had I had one this would have been simple as 123.
So my question is, can anyone tell me about some drives that are compatible?
Ones that work with I-life right out the box? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you (or anyone else) is still following this thread, I have the same configuration, and experienced the same problems. After many rants on this discussion group, I finally broke down and tried using a DVD lens cleaner - NOT A CD CLEANER! Guess what, my drive now reads everything it wouldn't read before - including those DVD's I burned with iDVD, plus all the retail DVD movies I thought it would never read. I wonder if the "defect" is that the drives were installed with dirt on the DVD lenses???
Before you give up completely and allow those so-called Genius' at the Apple Store to rip you off for a couple hundred dollars, get a DVD lens cleaner disk and try it.
    Good Luck!

  • I,ve bought a new USB Super Drive and have plugged it in, but can't get the disc ejected from the drive.

  • Compact flash reader in second super drive slot? Suggestions/Recommendations?

I would love to add a internal compact flash reader as I do alot of photography. Is there a somewhat easy solutuon to adding one to the open slot under the cd/dvd super drive?
I coulden't easily find products for this... any suggestions or links to anyone who has done this would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

    FAT32 format is OK.
Another way. You can use a USB flash drive & the camera connection kit.
Plug the USB flash drive (works the same with an SD card) into your computer & create a new folder titled DCIM. Then put your movie/photo files into the folder. The files must have a filename with exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus the file extension (i.e., my-movie.mov; DSCN0164.jpg).
Now plug the flash drive into the iPad using the camera connection kit. Open the Photos app, the movie/photo files should appear & you can import. (You can not export using the camera connection kit.)

  • New Super Drive Not Detected!

So I recently had trouble with my DVD drive, it wouldn't boot from any of the CDs I owned (even ones it booted with before). So I went and bought a new DVD Super Drive (model: UJ-857-C Slim) and opened up my laptop and installed it. No problems at all with the physical installation. I put it all back together and cut my laptop back on, and what do ya know? my system profiler doesn't show there to be a burning device, and the disk utility doesn't show a DVD drive. So I went through and reset the PRAM and NVRAM and verified the HD and verified the permissions, everything looked fine, except my Super Drive still didn't show up. I inserted a music CD just to see if it would play it, and now it won't eject that either. (I used an old CD 'cause I figured it wouldn't give it back).
Now I know that with Windows based PCs there's a way to install drivers and detect new drives, is there something I need to do with my Mackbook to have the new drive be detected? Or am I just SOL and need to take it to the apple store and let them deal with it?

Thanks for the input, Rodney! Unfortunately, I can't seem to figure out how to reformat it. Here's exactly how far I get...
1.) Boot up the computer to the OS Install DVD.
2.) Installer asks me what I wish my primary language to be. I select English and hit Continue.
3.) Installer shows OS description and tells me to hit Continue if I want to install. I click Continue.
4.) The license agreement comes up and I hit Continue and then Agree to move forward.
5.) I am asked to select a destination volume for the OSX installation. There are no options to select. The only button I can press is 'Back'. There is an 'Options' button as well, but it is ghosted.
    Any ideas?

  • How to create dvd/cd image using super drive in MacBook Air

I have MacBook Air and also Apple Supper drive for the same. can u help me to find dvd/cd burrning and copy software. and also guide me "how to create dvd/cd image using super drive in MacBook Air"

First to create a video DVD you need to use DVD authoring software like iDVD.  You can purchase it from the online Apple Store while supplies last.
For creating a disk image use Disk Utility.
To burn items to a CD or data DVD just insert the disc in the optical drive and drag those items onto the disc icon on the Desktop.  Then drag the disc icon to the Trash icon in the Dock which changes to a Burn icon.

  • HT2494 Usb super drive is not playing my dvds.  keeps ejecting them.  It is brand new

USB SUPER DRIVE IS NEW.  MAC IS NEW.  THE DRIVE IS NOT ACCEPTING MY DVDS.  KEEPS EJECTING THEM.
I HAVE THE MAC, 21.5 INCH INTEL BASED DESK TOP

I have the same issue wherein my external usb superdrive is ejecting the DVDs.
When I had the Snow Leopard, I was able to copy the DVDs into my hard drive, or even just watch DVD films.  Since I have the Mountain Lion, the DVD films which I used to be able to watch were not able to be read anymore ... it ejects them.
I did not notice it when I upgraded the Mountain Lion, because I did not watch any new DVDs.  Noticed this only couple of months back, and been searching for the solution.

I have a new MacBook Air with a USB super drive. I put in a DVD and I get nothing.  No Icon on the desk top, no help from DVD player. How do I get it to play and how to eject it now that it's in?

There's a defect. The computer is in warranty so take it in for repair.

  • A DVD external super drive on a Macbook-pro 15', any chance to work?

Hey! I bought a macbook-pro 15’ in 2009 which does generally well. Nevertheless it has a problem concerning the DVD internal drive. It doesn’t read   anymore and I have tried to clean with no effect. Few days ago I bought an external USB super drive from Apple store. I did so because I did not like to give my computer back for service, when I need it all the time for my work. I thought with that I would have solved my problem. Now I realized that things are not so easy, I must have made a mistake. Macbook-pro 15’ is not supposed to be connected to an external USB super drive. Can I still do something to make it work? Thanks

Apple designs external Superdrive to only work with computers that shipped without an optical frive. Why don't you save yourself much grief & return it. Then purchase any USB drive you want, just not a Superdrive. Thousands on the market & they will work just fine with your computer.

  • I can't burn a dvd using any method, Idvd tells me that my super drive is missing, dvd studio pro quits when i click burn and disk utility keeps spitting the disk out when i click burn and enter the disk??? how do i repair my superdrive for imac

I can't burn a dvd using any method, idvd tells me that my super drive is missing, dvd studio pro quits when i click burn and disk utility keeps spitting the disk out when I click burn and enter the disk??? how do i repair my superdrive for imac, or how do I do whatever I need to do to get it working: I have already tried using a lens cleaning cd and also restored my nvram or something i forget what it was called but i restarted my computer holding down  command+optoion+p+r and still nothing???
Free solutions are the best, although if I have to pay I will, I would prefer to not have to buy an external burner if possible and already know that is an option so please don't give me that answer... thank you for any help you can give

Unless your iMac is still covered by AppleCare, get an external DVD burner.
You can get perfectly good ones from Amazon for less than $40.

  • T61 no longer recognizes DVD super-multi drive

My T61 for some reason has stopped recognizing my DVD super-multi drive (GSA-U10N).  I do not use the optical drive often, so I am not sure when during the past couple of months this occured.  I have tried finding it using Lenovo System Toolbox and Device Manager.  I have tried restarting.  I have tried physically removing the drive and putting it back in.  No matter what I try, my T61 says that there is no optical drive.  The little green light next to the drive slot remains on all the time.
My T61 is a 7662 CTO, Core 2 Duo T7500, 4 GB ram, 100 GB HD, NVIDIA Quadro NVS 140M running Windows Vista Ultimate, 64-bit, SP2.
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

you should try to run a linux live cd, and see whether the drive is detected. If it is not, then either the cd drive or the motherboard is having a hardware problem.
