DVD to FCP?

Need to import/capture a dvd (my old demo reel) to FCP3, don't have dvdxdv, still on Jaguar, Apple manual says something about changing it to a QT file but doesn't really explain how?
G4 Tower FCP3   Mac OS X (10.1.x)   Dual 867MHz 512RAM 1x80G/ 1x200HD

So I can't put the dvd in my dvd player on my Powermac?
Yes, you can. And you can play it like a DVD, only you cannot then get that into FCP without third party software like MPEG Streamclip, or DVDxDV or Cinematize.

    Hi
Trying to get footage from a dvd using fcp. I can import the clips ok using file >import but they have no audio with them and the audio folder on the dvd is blank...any ideas????????

The audio_TS folder is normally blank.
You need to use MPEG Streamclip to get the DVD files to Quicktime.

  • Publishing to DVD from FCP instead of printing to Tape

How would I be able to put my finished timeline to a DVD from FCP rather than print to tape? as I am new to FCP?

Export > Quicktime Movie (using sequence settings)
    Open iDVD
Import > Video (locate your QT file)

  • Making a DVD from FCP X project

A few projects ago, I could render a movie for DVD from FCP X onto a DVD to burn.  Then, it would be working for hours and hours and never finish.. a day later, it wasn't finished.  Can't make one since.
What could be the problem? I s some part of the process too big for my hardware or software?  Can I change something to allow it to work again?
Any ideas?  Perhaps something is set wrong?
    Thank you for any suggestions.

    What version are you running?
Do you get a Publishing Error -29?

  • Trying to open a QT file on a dvd in FCP

So, okay, I downloaded MPEG Streamclip. I clicked on OPEN FILES. I clicked on the dvd icon that opens my QuickTime movie ( This was orignially created in FCPro and then exported using QT conversion.) A menu opens with these choices: AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS.
Only VIDEO_TS will open. It then gives more choices: VIDEO_TS.VOB; VTS_01.VOB ; VTS_02.VOB etcetera. I am confused as to how to proceed with this.
Any further instructions would be welcome....
    Thanks in advance,

My external storage drive failed and i can't access the original file....So I have to figure out how to open my DVD in FCP so I can re-edit the program.

  • Importing from a DVD to FCP

Having lost my original FCP files for my film I'm wanting to import two preview DVDs into FCP and cut them together. I know this is very back to front! but is this possible? If not is there another way to import DVDs and then splice them together. Thanks for any help with this.
    Helen

I've had mixed results w/ MPEG StreamClip.
If you have a PC w/ a DVD Player... Sony Vegas will import a Non-Copyrighted DVD directly from the Disc. -I guess it's because Sony makes those DVD Camcorders. The option is under IMPORT. Then you select the DVD. (FCP also needs this option)
You can then Edit, Trim, or whatever you'd like to do, then export a QT (or whatever format you need) ****, Vegas is so easy to use you can probably just Cut & Export your piece from there.
Sony has a Fully Functional 30 Day Trial on their site.

  • Importing DVD to FCP

I have this project where someone wants me to add to her demo reel. Her current demo reel is on DVD. I would need to import the footage from the DVD to FCP. Is there a way to do this within my G5? Trying to get the best quality possible so I can output after completion.

  • Import Clips From DVD into FCP

I am working on a 50th anniversary project for a client. They want to include several "home movie" clips in the project. They provided the home video footage to me on DVD. I am looking for the best way to import the material on the DVD into FCP.
I have used Handbrake to capture the video from the DVD and the file is saved in an MP4 format. But when I try to import that file into my FCP bin, FCP tells me that it does not recognize the file format.
I think that I can connect a DVD player to my system by running the signal from the DVD player into my DV cam, and then into my MAC, so that is a possibility.
I am just wondering if I am overlooking something that is quicker or easier.
Again my goal is to import material from a DVD into FCP so I can use clips on my timelines.
    Any hint, tips, advice?
    Thanks in advance!

  • When I am capturing  a home dvd to FCP it only captures 16 seconds

I am transferring my home dvd to FCP but as I capture it only allows me to record for 16 seconds then stops, telling me I am at the end of my tape? How can I solve this?
    Thanks,
    Tom

You can't transfer DVD video files directly into FCP.
    1. Copy the VIDEO_TS folder to your hard drive.
    2. Download MPEG Streamclip (free) and use it to extract and convert the VOB files found in the VIDEO_TS folder to a codec that FCP can work with, such as those found in the Easy Setup menu.
    3. Import the converted files into FCP

  • How to bring footage from my DVD into FCP

    Hi,
I REALLY need some help! I edited my film in FCP and burned in DVDSP, the same goes for the raw footage. They are both now on a DVD. My problem is that I let my friend borrow the raw footage tapes (bad mistake I know!) and now he cannot find the tapes. So I want to know if it is possible to take the raw footage back off the DVD without loosing any quality, and to bring it back into FCP? Thanks SO much for the help!

Without losing ANY quality? Sorry, quality was lost when you encoded for DVD. More quality will be lost when you rip the footage off the DVD, and more lost again when you encode again for DVD.
Sorry bud. Gotta press your friend more.

  • How do I edit a DVD on FCP 4.0?

    Hi...hope someone can help.
I've ripped a TV show (with consent of the producers) onto my computer. How do I convert that folder (a dvd file where audio_ts and video_ts are seperate) into a file that I can import and edit on FCP 4.0?
    Thanks.

Why don't you just use MPEG Streamclip and convert a sequence of VOB files into DV?

  • How to convert VHS to DVD using FCP 7?

Hello. For a brief, non-technical, introduction: I have dozens of family VHS tapes that I'd like to convert into a digital format where I can edit them and eventually transfer them onto an external hard drive and possibly DVDs as well. Ideally, I'd love to do all of the logging, capturing, and editing in FCP, but I am having difficulty figuring out set up and proper format conversions to obtain the best results. I am not a computer wizard, so a "Just-For-Dummies" walk through would be greatly appreciated.
    My questions are:
    1) What should my flowchart of devices be from VCR to FCP? (ie: converters, cables, inside FCP setup)
    2) What is the best video format for VHS to digital conversion?
Here are the specs for devices I currently possess. I realize I may need to purchase more, but this is what I have to work with at the moment.
    MacBook Pro: Mac OS X Version 10.6.8. | Processsor 2.4 GHz Intel Core i5 | Memory 4GB 1067 MHz DDR3
    Final Cut Pro 7.0.3
VCR: Toshiba SD-v295ku (output is Red, White, Yellow RCA)
ION Video 2 PC converter: RCA cables to USB (this is already installed on my Mac and has successfully worked for video capture alone)
    Sony Digital Handycam DCR-TRV330
    My Passport 2TB Hard Drive
Thank you so much in advance for any help you can offer.

    Buppas
Getting out of my depth here a bit.
I do have FCP 6 but have not used it much at all.
There are many people here that are more able than me who may come to your rescue but anyway here are a few suggestions to try.
Sony can be set to one of 2 audio modes, 12bit=32kHz, or 16bit=48kHz.Ensure set to 16bit , around page 85.
    Capture has to match 16bit=48kHz.
In FCP7 User Preferences >General check box "Abort capture on dropped frames. On timecode break Make New Clip ".
Also in Preferences> General I noticed this but not sure if it will help...Check box "Sync audio capture to video source if present".
Coming back to the Sony, and still stabbing in the dark, there is a Time Base Corrector (TBC) setting that you could try both on and off.
Also,do not start and stop the VHS player frequently; let it run through from start to end if you can to avoid breaks.
    Another option but not ideal.
What happens when you import into iMovie, do you still get out of sync?
If you dont then you could import to iMovie and then import the DV file/files to FCP7.
This will not take up double the space as FCP7 references the files in iMovie.
Other than this you could try a "search communities" or hope for more suggestions to come in.
    Good Luck.

  • Compress to SD DVD from FCP 7.0

I have a project in FCP 7.0 that is made up of ProRes 422 (LT) footage that I just finished. I'm trying to get this to DVD. The footage is 1440x1080 30fps. Everything looks great in the time line. I've exported it to Quicktime twice using these settings:
    ProRes422 1440x1080 30
    ProRes422 (LT) 1440x1080 30
They both look pretty bad. Lots of jagged edges.
I tried to "Send to" Compressor and used the DVD Best Quality 90 Minutes settings for the audio and video. I imported this into DVD Studio Pro and after burning the DVD it's the same thing. Actually before I even import it into DVD SP it looks bad so I guess it's not anything that DVD SP is doing.
The footage is only 16minutes long.
Am I doing something wrong on my export? Do I have to de-interlace something or change a setting? Help would be much appreciated.
    Steve

You could try duplicating that 90 minute preset so you can make a few adjustments. One of the settings I modify in my m2v presets is in the Frame Controls: Resizing Control: Deinterlace. I have that set to Better or Best, depending on the video. I also set the Output Fields: to Progressive. This seems to work well for my DVDs even when down converting from HD.
