DVD to FLV

Hi All.
I have a question. I'm working with MX2004 and I have a DVD
with a 5 minute video on it and I would like to add it to a web
site.
Can the DVD files be converted to FLV and if not what would I
have to do to the DVD to allow importinh? Any help would be
appreciated. Thanks, Joy

I wish it was easy as Voila! I have done that, and can't get
the video to show. I've spent all day using the lynda.com training
video about using flash and dw8 to get video on the website via
progressive, and nothing. The windows are blank.
I've imported the video (AVI's) into flash and encoded them
with flash 8 medium quality using ON2 VP6.
Then I Inserted | Flash Video in DW8. I can see the file
locally when I preview, but just get a blank window on my test
page.
Would appreciate any other hints you might pass along. I'd
also like to know if Joy was successful.
Thanks!

  • DVD -- FLV:  What's the best way ?

    Hello,
I want to convert movies from DVDs to FLVs.
Some DVDs are homevideos taken with a camera, and some are
VHS that was converted to DVD.
I got Adobe Flash CS3 Video encoder, but it can't read the
    DVD files.
    Now what ?
Help will be greatly apreciated :)

I really like Cinematize--it can read DVD video discs, and
let you export one or more chapters to just about any file format
you desire. (It's the one DVD ripper I endorse in my Flash Video
book, see signature below.) You can download a trial version of
    Cinematize here:
    http://www.miraizon.com
BTW, this forum is for Flash Media Encoder support, which
encodes live video streams on the fly to a Flash Media Server
application. I _wish_ there was a dedicated forum to Flash CS3
    Video Encoder. :(

  • Streaming FLV

I want to convert from DVD to Streaming FLV. Is Adobe Media Player useful for this task?
I look forward to hearing from you soon.
    Yours sincerely,
    David.

I use cucusoft's DVD to FLV converter http://www.cucusoft.com/ but I'm not sure if it's the best on the market.

  • What's happening with quality in CS3?

    Hello to all,
I really hope someone PRO can give us a help because we are all driving crazy here.
We use premiere for a lot of years, now using premiere pro cs 3 , we bought the full bundle.
Our work is always some filmed scenes with our sony hdr camera, they some after efects files and then a lot of 3D animation imported as frames in .tga format.
we edit great, etc, etc.....the nighmare is the exports. We always lost quality on exports.
For flash, some lines seems flickering and there are little "teeths" on non ortogonal lines...it is awfull.
If we do export to h264 the "teeth" problem disappear, so there must be a problem with flash...or the problem is "us".
the same problem happens when exporting to WMV 1920 1080 full hd...it destroys our films completeley....again the same "teeths" on non ortognal lines........This is always in the 3D rendering sequences.....What are we doing wrong.???
I must say that exporting to DVD makes always our films look a little blured.....why????
help us to understand why so much bad quality is happening with cs 3. Some of those problem didn't happens in the previous premiere version.....
we are driving crazy and considering moving to FCP2 where it seems the export options work better.
    thanks

    @Harm:
You don't necessarily need $2K+ for a good encoder: For MPEG-2 DVD, try HC Encoder -- it is free and much better than AME, IMO (requires some AviSynth skills, however). For .flv, take a look at On2 Flix. It is not free, but much less than 2 grand.
But perhaps more important than the "encoder" is proper preparation prior to encoding: This sometimes requires more sophisticated deinterlacing and scaling than Premiere can provide. In other cases, the solution is as simple as making sure the "deinterlace" checkbox is not checked when your sources are already progressive.
    @franciscovidigal:
    Some (possible) solutions:
    > For flash, some lines seems flickering and there are little "teeths" on non ortogonal lines
This is perhaps because your sources are progressive but the "deinterlace" box on the Output tab of AME is checked by default.
    > the same problem happens when exporting to WMV 1920 1080 full hd
    ... same situation as above.
    > If we do export to h264 the "teeth" problem disappear
Maybe you are exporting as interlace h264 and so avoiding the unnecessary deinterlacing?
    > I must say that exporting to DVD makes always our films look a little blured...
Premiere is horrible at exporting HD->SD resolution.
To help you further, I need more information:
1.) What kind of camera is it exactly, and is what format is your footage (1080/60i, 1080/25p, 720/60p, etc.) ???
2.) Are your animated sequences rendered as interlaced or progressive?
3.) What are your project settings and do they match the same resolution, framerate and field order/structure of your sources? Furthermore, do all of your various sources match in this regard?
4.) What is your target output format? I'm guessing you're working with an HD timeline and looking to export both DVD and .flv versions from it? What's the target resolution for the .flv?

  • Media100 to DV tape to Compressor mess...

    Hello to all:
I have a client whose project has been plagued by compression encoding issues for both DVD and FLV movies (or any other web format for that matter).
Now, I suspect what is wrong and I would like to confirm it by getting a general poll of opinions from the rest of the forum.
First, the problem that occurs is a combination of lower quality video, and worst, scan lines and interlacing artifacting in fast moving shots. These types of issues come up both when using Compressor and using most others form of compression (FLV, Sorenson). Basically, anytime I tried to do anything with them. (resize them, export them, etc)
Here is what I think is the problem: My client is editing his material in Media100, still using the older 640x480, square pixels format Media100 codec. However, rather than exporting the file (it seems it makes his system crash.) he instead outputs the file to a DV recorder via s-video
Then I have to re-digitize it BACK to a Mac via firewire using FinalCut Pro or iMovie and THEN I compress it using Compressor (for DVD) or FlashVideo encoder for FLV's.
In any event, my theory is that by doing this three main problems occurs:
    A) When we re-digitize from Media 100 back into DV for output we loose quality; Media100 codec is NOT a lossless codec, and neither is DV. When we digitize to Media 100, there is a tiny amount of data loss, when we digitize back to DV format, we loose quality again. It seems to me this doubling the video quality loss.
    B) Media 100 codec is a 640 x 480 codec that uses square pixels, then gets digitized back to DV which is 720x480/ 720x486 with 0.9 pixel ratio. . Because the file is not being processed by the software as an export file but rather being digitize directly to a DV machine as a video input, the pixel ratio does NOT get converted, which accounts for the extra black space around the edge of all the videos and the inconsistent set of problems when trying to format the video to any standard sizes.
    c) Field Render issue: Like the image resolution, the render field gets also messed up because it is not getting converted properly. It seems the DV copy made from the Media100 output looks fine at full size, but the moment you start resizing it, the odd scan lines resume.
I just want this settle for once and for all because we are wasting lots of time and is geting to be a rather frustrating thing, to say the least.
I never run into this problem with any other projetcs.
    Thanks in advanced.

    thanks for the response.
I am wondering though, what are you referring to when you say QT ISSUES. what is QT6?
When you download from you computer on to your DVX, what setting did you use on your DVX? I put mine on video, but get nothing other than a blank blue screen. As noted before, I know that the camera and computer are communicating because I was able to control the camera through the firewired in that mode.
I might just be missing a very simple step. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks
    Jim

  • Best practice for computer video - de-interlace or not

I know that there is a lot of discussion on this forum pertaining to interlacing, but after a search I was unable to answer my question(shocking, I know).
I produce distance education classes for a small university. The bulk of our footage is shot on DVCAM or digitized from S-VHS or even 3/4" U-Matic! All of it is captured in NTSC-DV. We output in two formats enhanced DVD (ala e-DVD) and .flv (through Cleaner). My question is this: the majority of our students are going to be viewing these videos on their computers. Is there anything special that we should be doing with the footage in terms of de-interlacing? And if we should de-interlace what settings should we use? And will de-interlacing adversly effect our few students that watch the DVD videos on a set top player?
Thanks in advance for your help and please accept my apologies if I have missed a previous post addressing this question.
BTW, we are using FCS with all softare up to date.
    2 - PowerMac G5 2.0Ghz DP   Mac OS X (10.4.4)   1- Mac Mini

The answer, I would say, is "it depends". Simple de-interlace throws away half the vertical resolution and doubles up each scanline. Smart de-interlace - like Nattress film effects (60i->30p) - blends the "comb" effect that can happen when viewing interlace material in a progressive (computer monitor) display to leave it looking like motion blur.
You need to look at the material and see if it is problematic when viewed on a progressive display/computer monitor. This would likely be high contrast movement (a bright object moving against a dark background). If the material doesn't look bad, there's no need to go thru the extra processing required to de-interlace. Watching material with smart de-interlacing on an interlace display shouldn't be too bad...

  • Lagarith vs DV AVI vs Uncompressed Microsoft AVI

There is a question and here is scenario:
    I have this source clip:
    DV AVI Type 2
    PAL, 25 fps
    720x576
and want to export from Premiere to intermediate file to later encode to DVD,MP4,FLV...using Mainconcept Reference encoder
What is best codec for this situation?
    Thanx

You can also try setting Lagarith to YUY2 mode, which should save you a good amount of disk space without visible degradation.
    > to go for a visually lossless codec like Lagarith or HuffYuv
Well, unless you are forcing a particular colorspace (like in my example above) LAGS is truly lossless, not "visually lossless"
    > The only arguments I can think of are if nearly the complete timeline requires rendering.
I disagree. I would say that, conversely, if your entire timeline consists of nothing but straight edits of unaltered DV clips then DV is the best choice.
If you have graphics, animation, photographs, titling etc. then you may quite possibly see significant loss by using DV.
    > but count on triple the space requirements from your original footage
Yeah, maybe that's a decent estimate: but this also depends greatly on your source. Cleaner footage (such as that which has had noise reduction applied) may not require any more space than DV... and Lagarith often compresses computer-generated graphics more efficiently than DV, which can result in smaller files.

  • FLVplayer question: preview or opening image??

I hope I am placing this question in the right forum. I have searched everywhere trying to find the answer...
I am using Dreamweaver CS4 to insert a FLV video into a web page. Dreamweaver automatically uses FLVPlayer as the flash player. All is working beautifully except that when I first visit my web page, the video area is just a black screen. I would like to put a preview image there instead. Other players just seem to usually have a parameter that you set like "image=" and you point to the .jpg or whatever, but I can't get that to work here.
Please help - I can't believe I am having this much trouble, and this must be a super simple answer.
The URL if that would help is http://ilovestraightteeth.webscapersites.com/treatments/incognito-braces.shtml
    Thanks.

Thank you for the quick reply. I should have mentioned that I am totally and utterly brand new to flash and videos. I do apologize for probably sounding kinda dumb...
You said I should google flash <my actionscript version> poster image. How do I know what actionscript version? Am I even using action script?
Here is exactly what I'm trying to do. I had a video on DVD. I converted it from the DVD to .flv. I need to insert this video into my client's site. Dreamweaver was so helpful in that all I had to do was hit insert-FLV and voila, it had a player all built in with skins and all. Works perfectly, couldn't be easier - except that it shows the black box instead of a friendly image.
I'd used another flash player once and I recall that there was a variable in the code that you just set a preview image, so that's why I thought I could just do that here too...
For what it's worth, I did then Google flash poster image (minus "actionscript")  -- but it's still not giving me the info that I think I need.
Thanks in advance for any help anyone can offer.

  • Burn flv to dvd?

How do I burn .flv files to dvd? Imovie doesn't recognize files I download from youtube as movies.

Get the latest version of Handbrake, then convert them to something else like MP4 or MOV, then you can do things like that with them.

  • FLV File to DVD

    Hi,
I have a number of video files in FLV format. I have an iBook G4 with Mac Os X
I would like to collate them all, putting them on a dvd, with a central menu which gives the user the option to choose which one to watch!
How do I do this! I have both iMovie and iDVDs. What exactly do I need to do?
    Many THanks

I have a number of video files in FLV format.
You might want to get VisualHub from http://www.techspansion.com/visualhub/
You can try it for free to see if it work for you. It's a very useful application for working with video files.

  • Flash FLV for DVD?

I've a client who asked for a bid on a project, which piqued
    my curiosity.However, from
my probing it seems they wanted the Quicktime movies turned
    into FLV files
but wanted them for DVDs. They were not as yet concerned
    about output for
    the web.
I was curious and a bit confused and then wondered about the
    aspect ratios
of Flash on a DVD. Their original QT movs would be 720x486
    and FLV output
    is 680x480.
The question: what happens when you have FLV aspect ratios on
    DVD and then
you play the dvd on computer or tv? Do you get the clipping
    or black bars
    on both outputs?
Or should you (can you) render a Flash FLV in the 720x486
    mode, or 720x480?
They never defined for me clearly their final output goal but
    wanted a 1
week turn around on 45 hours of QT. I told them it "might" be
    possible in
    single pass VBR, but...
It seems they want a bank of computers, and I could only run
    2 full time on
processing. Anyone know of big production houses that do this
    type of
transfer full time and do it at a reasonable rate?

Thanks for recommendation. The DVD2Web Converter does look like the appropriate tool.

  • Porting/converting an interactive DVD to Flash/SWF/FLV?

Is it possible to make a complete mirror port or conversion of an existing interactive DVD to Flash (swf+flv) so that I can put it online and interact with it with my mouse through a flash enabled browser, just like were running on a DVD player, with all the existing interactivity (menus, chapters) intact? I know about Adobe Encore CS4:
http://www.adobe.com/products/premiere/e... (See "Publishing of DVD projects to the web")
but I can't see that you can import an exisiting DVD into Encore. You would first have to build your own menus, chapters, timeline, etc., then you could export it to Flash...
If this is not possible in Encore CS4, how can I do this?  Thanks

It's not possible with Encore - you must have an Encore project, and DVD is not an importable source in Encore.
I don't know if there is even any software in existence which could do what you are asking.

  • Importing/editing FLV file from pc and making dvd

Hi everybody... new Mac user/owner here... virgin sorta hehe.
I am an internet broadcaster who has to stream via pc. Once I have finnished show, I need to get said file in to my Mac and edit with Imovie...I think. I have been trying to do this with toast8.4 but everytime I make a dvd with toast... IMovie only can see files ads FLV and won't open.
Any suggestions for this rookie would be appreciated
    cheers

A coworker taught me how to create a "macro" for doing this.  Under Windows, choose actions, at the bottom there is a symbol for "create new action".
The click the record button, and go through the motions of select object, text objects; transform each; etc...
The software I am useing to create these data plots only has WMF and PNG as output formats.   I need to change font sizes etc in Illustrator,
so I need the WMF format and not a bitmapped format (same for using a "screen grab" to get a JPG or similar from the Windows screen).
Up until a year ago, Illustrator was importing the WMF files with no trouble.  It only started inverting the text when I upgraded hardware
    and software on my Mac.
I have several other Windows-Only programs that export WMF files, and the text elements are not inverted in any of the others.  So
this problem is not simply a "bug" in Illustrator, it seems specific to the plots exported by this one peice of Windows software.  I will
write to the authors of that software to allert them of the trouble.
Thanks to every one, for rapid replies to this!

  • DVD to MOV file to FLV

I am completely new at this stuff
I have created a website in Dreamweaver and am now wanting to
put some video into my site.
    Two questions:
The Flash Help dialogue gives me advise on how to create an
FLV from a MOV or Quicktime file, but how do I take a DVD and
create an MOV file out of that?
Let me know if I am using incorrect terminology, I seriously
have no idea about the difference between any of these file
    formats.
    2nd Question:
With Flash video, it appears to be rather restrictive to the
viewer as far as sizing the video, where Windows Media files allow
me to resize the video to full screen and back down. Is this format
less attractive for placement on websites? and how would I create a

  • How do I download a video and convert it into an flv file? In previous versions, all I had to do was pick the resolution and it was done automaticlly. I use DVDFLICK to burn my downloaded videos to DVD.

In previous versions of Firefox, I was able to easily download and convert videos into .flv files. I was then able to burn DVDs of theses downloaded videos using DVDFLICK. I'm now unable to do this using Firefox6.0.2?

    Hello,
There is a process by which you can produce a BluRay encode on a red laser DVD. See link below
    from Ken Stone site.
    http://www.kenstone.net/fcphomepage/burn_br_mac_superdrivestone.html
Also this can be done in Toast 10 with the BluRay plugin, somewhat easier.
