Dvd vcr combo slv-d370p doesn't allow time to be set. Displays "please wait, then try again"

There is no disc or tape in the machine. I have tried waiting up to 8 hours to no avail.
I tried unpluging the machine for a few minutes, and plugging it back in.
Same result, please wait, then try again.
The machine says this every time I press set up. Is there a work around that I haven't figured out?

The PLEASE WAIT AND TRY LATER error will display when trying to access the setup menu if a tape is playing. Stop the tape before attempting to access the setup menu. However, if this occurs even if there's no disc inside then the player may require service. Please click here to check for your service options.

  • DVD/VCR combo connection

Hello,  I have recently purchased a Toshiba 29L1350U 29” TV, which works fine.  All connections are working properly, except for my DVD/VCR (SONY SLV-D380P)  Enclosed is a picture of the connections panel behind the Combo player. What should I connect to what?

Hi everyone my VCR is now working but I would be curious if anyone knows how to record the old fashioned way. I know it sounds crazy but I can't save everything in my DVR forever.

  • MacBook to DVD/VCR Combo to TV

    Hey All,
I have the white MacBook 13" purchased in Oct 08. I have a newer DVD/VCR Combo unit that is hooked into my HDTV via HDMI to, I think, DVI. (I'm at work right now). Anyway, my question is, can I run the mini-DVI to the DVD/VCR Combo into the TV with the mini-DVI to HDMI cable? Or will I lose valuable signal and video? Should I connect directly to the TV?
The TV is a Mitsubishi HDTV ready 1080i widescreen 55 in, projection. I think it is from the 2004 era. I bought it used and it didn't have a manual.
    Thanks for any help!

There should be no signal lost from the VCR to the TV. That will just be a digital pass-through.

  • Duplicating DVDs from Sony DVD/VCR combo

Please forgive a question that actually has nothing to do with DVD Studio Pro. (I DO own it, though!) I just figured you guys would know a lot.
I have a Sony DVD/VCR combo unit. I've created a DVD on the unit with footage from my MiniDV camcorder. The disc burned just fine and plays on my Mac. But I can't use Disc Utility to duplicate the DVD as I am used to doing. I get an "input/output error" message when I try to create a New Image from the disc. I don't see how copy protection could factor in; I made the disc myself, and it's all my own footage shot on MiniDV.
Any thoughts? Or workarounds? I'd like to avoid recreating the entire 2-hour DVD by digitizing straight to my Mac if at all possible.

Toast will do it very easily, but you might want to try this one. I haven't used it, but it looks promising.

  • Hpe-380t and dvd/vcr combo

has anyone connected a vcr, dvd, or dvd/vcr combo to their HPE-380T thru the varios i/o ports on the front of their machine?  i have a dvd/vcr combo connected but not sure how the video displayed on the monitor or audio is heard via my speakers.

Hi, What video capture application program are you using since the front ports for input? ROXIO sells a lot of video capture software and h/w dongles.

  • Re: DVD/VCR Combo

I ALSO HAVE A DVD/VCR COMBO, THE PICTURE HAS NEVER COME IN ON THE VCR, SO WE TRIED BUYING A NEW TV THINKING THAT THE OLDER TV WAS THE PROBLEM. STILL NO PICTURE ON VCR. PICTURE FINE ON DVD

    Just to verify the steps:
    1) Insert a VHS tape that already has something recorded on it. Be sure it's not just blank tape.
    2) Press the VCR button on the remote. This is the one with the yellow boundary around it, near the bottom of the remote.
You should see 0:00:00 display on the front of the unit.
    3) Press PLAY on the remote.
You should see the counter start incrementing as the tape starts playing. (00:00:01, 00:00:02, etc.)
Then see what is on the TV. Are you seeing anything from the VCR, or is it just a blue screen? Press FWD on the remote to see if anything appears on the TV. If you see nothing, and you know it's not blank tape, and you do see a picture when you switch to DVD and play a DVD, I'd say the unit is flawed. I've not experienced this myself.
How are you connected from the Toshiba to the TV? HDMI, RCA cables, or S-Video?

  • SD-V296KU DVD/VCR Combo - VCR doesn't work

The DVD side works fine, but the VCR side is doing something weird.
The tape will play, rewind, etc., but there is no picture or sound.
The TV screen just shows the DVD image as if that function was on.
Don't know if there could be a TV compatibility issue
The TV is a Samsung, model UN46EH6000FXZA
    Thank you!

    buster44 -
Thanks for that info, and I suspect the other posters will find that this is the reason.
I don't have the SD-V296, and I had assumed its inputs/outputs were similar to the DVR620, which I do have. But that is definitely not the case.
In looking at the manual for the SD-V296, I see that there are a number of outputs just for DVD. Those include RCA L/R audio out, S-Video out, and component (YPbPr). Anything connected to those outputs and going to a TV will mean that only DVD audio/video output will be seen on the TV. VCR playback would show black/blue screen with no audio. Then there is a DVD/VCR output set for composite video plus L/R audio. If you want VCR output, you must use this one. There is also an input for the VCR that would have no impact on DVD since this unit does not record on DVD. There is no HDMI output. (The manual has a 2008 date, so this is a relatively old unit).
So for optimal use of the SD-V296, run the YPbPr into your TV (the 3 component video cables) + plus the DVD audio out into your HD input on your TV. That will be for DVD viewing only on your TV. Then run the composite video + L/R output into your TV into AUX/Video1/etc. (whatever it may be called).  That will be for VCR viewing, although DVD can be viewed there, just not as good of a picture as you will through your HD input.

  • SD-V296 DVD/VCR Combo

Recently purchased for holidays. Set up unit.  DVD works fine, the picture & sound show as supposed to. VCR unit only transmits audio.   No Video playback. Display on TV is of the DVD welcome screen which seems to be permanently set to broadcast DVD.  Selector is set to VCR.  Using 5 channel cables connected to Toshiba TV.  Why won't the VCR video playback?

I don't own a SD-V296 but I do own other Toshiba units. I do have the PDF of the SD-V296 manual at hand. (Note that I am not a Toshiba employee). Based on other SD-V296 owners that have posted here, it seems the most confusion is from which output connection to use. On page 7 we see the rear panel diagram. If you want to be able to play back VHS, you need to use the connections that are labeled as DVD/VCR. So this means only using audio out L and R (labeled as 6) and video out (labeled as 7). Most newer TVs have component video input with 3 jacks, Y Pb Pr (green, blue, red respectively). If you were to connect from the jacks labeled as number 5 in the diagram, doing color matching, you'd then be able to play DVDs from the SD-V296 on the TV using the component input. However, I don't believe you'll get to view VHS this way. I believe that if you want to view VHS, you must use the video out (labeled as 7) and connect it into the Y component jack of the TV. The other 2 jacks on the TV, Pb and Pr, would have nothing plugged into them. This would then send a composite video signal from the SD-V296 to the TV, allowing for both DVD and VHS playback. The picture quality would not be as good for DVD as component but still viewable. I believe that most newer TVs have this combination input with Pb Pr Y, where Y serves the dual purpose of composite input when it's the only jack used, or Y component video if Pb and Pr are also used. But due to this, you can't use component video for DVDs and composite for VHS with the same connection. Note that later Toshiba models use HDMI as output, avoiding this issue. But the SD-V296 is an older model (I see 2008 on the manual's copyright page) so it doesn't have HDMI.

  • DVD VCR Combo, old

When I try to access System Menu on my DVD VCR ROR VX560, display says 'DVD1' and will not let me into the menu. Tried disconnecting ac overnight, no luck. Is the another way?

Follow the steps below if the on screen menu does not appear:
    Turn off the DVD player.
Unplug the power cord of the DVD player from the electrical outlet.
Allow the DVD player to remain without power for two minutes.
Plug the power cord back into the electrical outlet.
    Turn on the DVD player.
    Access the DVD player menu.

  • DIGA DMR-BR630V, Panasonic blu ray dvd + vcr combo.

Anyone else heard of the Panasonic blu ray +vcr combo coming out soon?  I'm seriously interested in this product, both because of the blu ray quality and the vhs recording/playback.  A lot of people have vhs tapes and are hoping for this...what do you hear?

    Hey tomshotcash,
I read some of the pre-release information on this model a while back, but I was under the influence that this player was only going to be available in Japan.  Since it was only released overseas on October 1st of this year, chances are that a NA or EU equivalent won’t be released for a number of months yet.
If you’re itching to find out more about the DMR-BF630V though (and can read Japanese!) I’ve provided a link to Panasonic’s official site below:

    Hope this helps you out!

  • I'm using Firefox Ver 3.6.10 with updated Java console ver 6.0.22. After the updating, firefox doesn't allow pop up window anymore. Please advise.

I also face this problem in previous Firefox version but after updated to newer release, the problem disappeared until new Java console updates again.
The Pop up does not come out at all.
I have tried restart Firefox but when restarting, a message pop up and tell me that another Firefox is running and after I check into my Task Manager, the Task Manager shows that there is another Firefox is still running.

You can uninstall (remove) the Java Console extensions and disable the Java Quick Starter extension, you do not need them to run Java applets.

This is the message that appears when I try to open a pdf in the browser.

Uninstall then reinstall Adobe Reader. That solved the problem for me.

  • Vcr/dvd player combo and compatibility with TV

I received a VCR/DVD player combo (does not have a digital tuner)  for Christmas.  I have basic cable hookup without a cable box and my tv  does not have a digital tuner.  My dilema is that both sides play just fine but I cannot record from the tv.  I would like to know what I can do to remedy this problem.  If anyone has any suggestions, they would be greatly appreciated!!

Since you do not have a tuner on the dvd/vcr combo, the only way you can record tv shows on this unit is if your tv has a video output on the back of the tv. Few newer tv's have this feature anymore.
See this picture. There is a pair of audio outs on the right, and the bottm right is a yellow output for video. These are the composite outs to go to a unit like yours.
If the unit came from Best Buy, you can see about exchanging it for a Panasonic DMR-EZ48VK or LG  RC897T units. They are stocked in store and have a HD tuner in them.

  • Insignia tv and sony dvd/vcr

I purchashed an Insignia tv and I have a sony dvd/vcr, the tv came with a cable with 5 connectors.  I got the dvd to work but the vcr will not, do you think that it is not hooked up right or that maybe I need the cable with the red, yellow and white connectors only?  Any suggestions?

My dvd/vcr combo even though its one unit  it still requires 2 separate connections.  One for the dvd player and one for the VCR.  The dvd player is hooked up through component outputs and inputs (blue, red and green plus red and white audio or a digital optical or coaxial connection.  The vcr is hooked up through composite or the yellow connection and audio through red and white.
