DVD verify fail, during burning procedure

When I burn CD's never had a problem, but when I try to burn a DVD always have the same problem, the burning procedure finish without problems, but when start the verify procedure always fail.
I'm using Verbatim DVD-R, I think is a good DVD, and I tried the burning procedure with Disk Utility and Toast 7 titanium with the exact result.
What can I do?
Thank you.

Hi
The first thing I would do is try another brand of DVDs. DVD drives are choosey about the discs you use. On Macs they only support Apple DVD officially.
Maxell work well with mine. Other generics burn slower and sometimes fail.

  • DVD DL fail to burn AND Firewire 400/800 problems

I have had several months of intermittent DVD burn fails. Most recently today burning from the finder and it is now reporting "The disc can’t be burned because because communication between the computer and the disc drive failed (error code 0x80020022)."
That error is new, previously it was always
    Sense Key - Hardware Error
    Sense Code - 0x03
The first time this cropped up was on 10.5.x and when I reported it to apple they had me take it to get the drive replaced since it was still covered by applecare.
After the DVD replacement and while still in the shop it burned a few DVD DLs ok. A few weeks later the same 0x03 errors. (it always burns CDs just fine)
After another phone conversation with applecare, they now suggest that the logic board needs to be replaced. (This was after I mentioned I frequently have problems with Firewire 400 or 800 external drives showing up...sometimes they work sometimes they don't. The same drives always show up when connected via USB)
I was walked through resetting the PRAM, which cleared up the Firewire 400/800 temporarily, but it did not help the DVD burn problem.
So on the eve before the appointment, this crazy MBP (2,2, 2.33 ghz) burns a DVD DL after blowing compressed air thru the DVD slot. But the second DVD DL fails to burn with the ""The disc can’t be burned because because communication between the computer and the disc drive failed (error code 0x80020022)."
I was hoping that the upgrade to 10.6.x would solve both issues, but not so much.
Anyone else with the DVD DL problem experiencing FW problems?

The problems with some external FW burners under SL are fairly common, Robert. With some earlier drives (like my Pioneer 109 in an external box) often one can't even "see" the drive at all (though the bridge in the external box will show up under System Profiler) through FW, though it works fine under USB. With some later ones things like PRAM resets, or simply disconnecting and reconnecting the drive, will get them working. See http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=10070281 or some discussion of these issues and possible "workarounds".
As far as the general disc burning issue goes, other things that are worth considering include problems with a "fullish" hard drive with fragmented free space, and the actual media being used. What brands of DVD have you tried?
DL discs, generally seem much more finicky about dust and dirt than single layer when it comes to burning (and , of course, need much more free HD space) . Will it burn a single layer DVD or a CD without problems?
    Cheers

  • Burned DVD verify fails sometime

I've been burning my photos onto DVDs as a backup. I create a smart album that collects my photos by data and then burn them onto a DVD as a library.
I burned one and it worked fine I then when to the next smart folder and burn it but the burn failed the verify, so I tried again and it failed again only this time earlier. I thought my DVD drive was the problem so I took it to my Apple dealer and he checked it out and found no problems.
I have a 15" Mac Book Pro that is all Apple, I'm running OS X 10.6.2 and iPhoto 08 (7.1.5). I've burned a bunch of DVDs with Toast and they work just fine. I've tried a different manufacturer of DVDs and still have the same problem.
At this point I don't know what to try next, any thoughts would be helpful

Even though the verify procedure failed did you try opening the DVD to see if the files were there. I had that situation one time and the disc was just fine even though the verification process failed.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier versions) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. There are versions that are compatible with iPhoto 5, 6, 7 and 8 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
NOTE: The new rebuild option in iPhoto 09 (v. 8.0.2), Rebuild the iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup" makes this tip obsolete.

  • Failing during burn process.

In iMovie HD I created a 1 hr., 18 min. video and slideshow w/chapters, exported to a full-quality quicktime movie (15.9 Gig). Quicktime player views audio and video just fine, but when I tried to burn to dvd through Toast 7 Titanium, the final result is, I hear the audio, but see no video.
Tried sending the iMovie HD6 to iDVD8– had to drop the quality down one notch, the end result was a DVD movie, after encoding and burn, appeared to be fine, after 12 copies, I find that all 12 dvd's stall, sputter, and won't play the latter chapters.
Is a 15.9 Gig Quicktime movie to large for iDVD or Toast7 to encode?
One final note, I Had a successful disc created from a 16 gig quicktime movie, but had forgot to add chapters, added these in imovie project, exported another "Full-Qualty" Quicktime file. This is where my trouble began.
Summary: quicktime player plays the movie just fine, Idvd and toast are not encoding with any success. –any ideas are very much appreciated!

    Hi
    a. Don't put Chapters to close to a transition (>2sec away)
    b. I don't use "Share/Export to iDVD" or make a QT full quality movie. I just
    • Close iMovie
    • Open iDVD
    • Either Import movie project from within iDVD OR Just drop the iMovie movie
project icon (with a star on it) into iDVD window.
    c. Size of movie project in Gbs DOESN'T matter at all ONLY movie duration in time
and dep on what encoding quality You select.
    • Professional Quality (iDVD08,09) (movies up to 120 min.) - BEST
    • Best Performances (movies less than 60 min.) - High quality on final DVD
    • High Quality (in iDVD08) / Best Quality (in iDVD6) (movies up to 120 min.) - slightly lower quality than above
    d. Free space on internal boot hard disk ? How much ?
    I secure a minimum of 25Gb for standard 4x3 TV-video if 16x9 HD I would set off
    abou four timees more.
iDVD and Mac OS Can't address other external/second drives.

  • Drive keeps failing during burning.

ok, i just got a bunch of stuff off of iTunes for christmas and i was burning them to discs. now every time i try to burn a disc it gets about four or five songs in and the drive starts making a lot of noise and vibration. the disc pops out and an error message pops up saying something about a medium burn failure.
it was working fine just a little while ago and it still plays cds i've just burned. and its not like the burner isn't working at all considering it gets a few songs into the cd before it craps out. i tried it on multiple album/playlists. not sure what the deal is or how to fix it. any ideas, suggestions, answers, or insults are very welcome.

It does sound like the drive could be starting to fail. But before we assume the worst try to burn a CD with a different brand of CDs. It could be that you have a batch of bad media.

  • Database verify failed

    hi guys,
    I have one more query.
I get an error log "database verify failed" during the report execution but my report appears fine. is this an error with the JRC ?
Also when i pass 'NULL' for the outputstream object in the processRequest() i get response already commited error but when i pass the pageContext.out to that method i am not gettin that error. i have set the Isownpage and isownform as true.
    Thanks,
    Prem

I'd need more info concerning the context within which the database verify error is displayed.
Are you possibly changing the database location in code?  This would trigger a database verify step, to ensure the design schema is compatible to the runtime schema.
Since this is intermittent - not every time - I'm wondering if this is load-related.
As for the output stream exception - the viewer works by postback, where it writes HTML output to the response Writer interface, and binaries (export formats) to the response OutputStream interface.  The last argument of the processHttpResquest is used to specify the Writer object.  If it's null, then it retrieves the getWriter from the HTTPServletResponse argument.
The exception arises because of this - when you pass in null, then it writes to the Writer, and something else on the page is writing to the OutputStream and colliding, since you can't write to both the response.getWriter() and response.getOutputStream() within the same request.
    Sincerely,
    Ted Ueda

  • Disk Utility verify of ISO burn fails, but md5 sum matches

Frequently when I burn a large DVD iso to a DVD, via the "Burn" task in OS X Disk Utility, the process results in a failure at the end of the verify process.  However, if I check the md5 sum of the DVD against the published md5 sum for the ISO, the checksum matches.  From this I assume that the DVD must have written correctly.  Why does DiskUtility report that the verify failed?

its not your drive the problem its the disk if you use singapore produce disk there is a way to find out what kind of disk is made by you could have a disk of poor quality made by Ricoh, singapore disk dual layer disk of of top quality.

  • Macbook Pro disc drive failing to burn DVD-R.

I am using a 2007, 17" Macbook Pro with 10.6.8. My drive information in System Profiler reads as follows:
    MATSHITA DVD-R   UJ-85J:
      Firmware Revision:          FBZ8

Burn Support:          Yes (Apple Shipping Drive)

Media:          To show the available burn speeds, insert a disc and choose View > Refresh
I am trying to burn an .mp4 video to a DVD in order to test the disc for playback. When I insert the disc, it appears first in the Finder as a blank DVD. I click and drag the video to the DVD and hit "Burn." What follows is an error message:
"'Untitled DVD'" can't be burned because the disck is read-only and can't be modified (error code 0x80020042)."
After that, the disc ejects, and I am back at square one.
I have looked online for similar cases and suggested solutions, but nothing has worked yet. I have verified and repaired my disk permissions via Disk Utility, tried to burn multiple times with different, fresh DVD-Rs, purchased brand new DVD-Rs, and even tried changing the permissions manually via the "Info" panel.
I do not have iDVD or any other third party DVD burning software. In the past, I used iDVD and these very same DVD-Rs to burn a number of student films for playback. At that time, the process was very simple and worked as one might expect it to.
I am wondering if I should just get iDVD or another third party software, but I am reluctant to, because I would think that the OS' built-in burning capability ought to work just as well. Of course, I could easily be mistaken.
    Please help. Thank you.

    Some clarification:
I am not trying to burn a data disc. If that is what I just described, I was unaware that I was attempting to burn a data disc. I am trying to burn a video DVD for playback on a DVD player. If you or anyone here are trying to tell me that I cannot burn a video DVD by performing the process I described, then I will continue to attempt to use the third party software I downloaded instead.
    Further clarification:
The problem does not appear to be with the discs. I began testing this issue using Memorex DVD-Rs that I already own. Until today, I had barely touched the stack. However, because it was technically possible that I was using several coasters that I had forgotten about, I went out and bought some additional DVD-Rs - the Verbatims. It is highly unlikely that both the Memorex stack I already owned and the Verbatim discs I just purchased are both duds. I know for a fact that the Memorex discs should work because I have several archived DVD videos on the very same discs.
The real problem appears to be with the drive and how it is reading the discs. For some reason, it is recognizing them as "read-only" and/or not blank, as System Profiler has shown:
      Media:
      Type:          DVD-R
      ID:          CMC MAG. AM3
      Blank:          No
      Erasable:          No
      Overwritable:          No
      Appendable:          Yes
      Write Speeds:          2x, 4x, 8x
I have attempted to Repair Disk Permissions twice - that has not solved the issue. I am going to attempt an SMC reset next, and if that fails, I will attempt to Repair Disk via the install DVD. Failing all of those options, I guess I'm going to have to visit a Genius Bar.
Thank you all again. Please try to stay with me as I continue handling this issue, as I will provide updates.

Here's what the Help Menu offers:
    Exporting a movie to iDVD
Once your movie is ready for viewing, iMovie HD can automatically export it to an iDVD project that you can burn on a DVD. You can then view your DVD on a television using a DVD player or on your computer screen using the Apple DVD Player.
Note: Before you export your movie to iDVD, you can add chapter markers to it so that viewers can quickly review different sections of the movie on DVD. If you've added chapter markers, they are exported with your movie, and you can use them to add scene selection menus to your iDVD project.
Not all computers support iDVD. See your computer's manual to find out if your computer does.
To export your movie to iDVD:
    Choose Share > iDVD.
Click the "Share selected clips only" checkbox if you only want to share clips you selected.
    Click Share.
iDVD opens and your movie appears in a new project in iDVD.
For more information about using iDVD, choose Help > iDVD Help when iDVD is open.

  • "Errors Found During Burning Process"

    Hi,
Having sucessfully burned AVI movies using iDVD in the past I have started getting errors. iDVD now does the same thing regardless of the movie i'm trying to burn and the media I use.
Having selected Best Quality (due to the film size), the menu rendering works fine, as does the prolonged job of encoding the video. When iDVD gets to the Audi encoding bit, just before it starts to burn the DVD itself, iDVD ejects the disc and states: Errors Found During Burning Process.
Clicking on the arrow to get more info it states: "The recording device reported the hardware error: Tracking servo failure. (0x09, 0x01.)" Bizarrely, the main iDVD progress window states both 'Cleaning Up' and 'Writing Lead-In' and the only way to get out if it is to force quit.
I've read a few posts on here and tried a couple of things such as trashing the plist file and reparing permissions. I also booted up the diagnostic disc to see if it could see a problem with the optical drive. But nothing has solved the problem.
    Any ideas?
For reference, I'm running iDVD 5.0.1 on Tiger on a 1.8 G5 iMac with 1GB RAM.
Appreciate any help you can give me.
    Neil

    Colleagues:
Ran into the same error, # -34506. Definitely frustrating as I was burning a DVD of an iMovie that I'd spent many hours editing. The iMovie is only 30 miniutes in length, so I don't think it's a size issue. iDVD went through each one of it's steps in burn DVD sequence. However, 45 minutes later when processing is finished, the message reads: "Burning Finished, Errors were found during the burning process." Clicked to see the detail: "The error # -34506 was reported." Checked the DVD and nothing was burned!!! The same thing happens when I opt for disk image. No img file is produced. This is especially frustrating as it looks like it all but completed processing.
Does anyone know what Error # -34506 specifically indicates? How do you fix this? Does it only happen in a specific sequence? And, is Apple aware of the problem?
    Thanks!

  • IDVD 4 now freezes the entire computer during burning

    Hello,
iDVD 4 now freezes my entire computer during burning somewhere around stage 3. I can't even force quit. This never happened before - it does so while burning a project that had been burned successfully many times in the past and also new projects. I did have a bad RAM problem weeks ago - which is fixed now. Tried fixing permissions and cleared out enough free space. This is wierd - it has been working for years.
    Thanks very much,
    NIck M.

    Hi
*Not knowing the origin to Your problem - General approach when in trouble is as follows:*
    • Free space on internal (start-up) hard disk if it is less than 10Gb should rather have 25Gb
    • Hard disk is untidy: Repair Permissions, Repair Hard disk (Apple Disc Util tool)
    • Delete iDVD pref file - *or rather start a new user/account* - log into this and re-try
iDVD pref file resides: Mac Hard Disk (start-up HD)/Users/"Your account"/Library/Preferences and is named:
    com.apple.iDVD.plist
While iDVD is NOT RUNNING - move this file out to desk-top.
    Now restart iDVD.
    • Program miss-match: iDVD 5.0.2, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.5.5 - is OK - DON’T work under Leopard
    • Program miss-match: iDVD 6.0.4, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.5.5 - is OK (might work under Leopard)
    • Program miss-match: iDVD’08 v. 7.0.1, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.5.5 - is OK (might work under Leopard)
    • iDVD (08) v7 Locate theme folder. Move out iDVD1, iDVD 2 and eventually iDVD4 folders to desktop - re-try
    • Try a Cleaning CD/DVD that cleans the laser lens on the DVD burner/player
iDVD 6.0.4 and iDVD 7.0.1 are compatible with Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard
Last resort: from Craig: Solved the problem!! Finally!!
I deleted every iDVD application and folder from my boot drive,
emptied the trash and then installed iDVD 08 using the customize option
and I am up and running.

    Crazy---

Any ideas on this guys?? In my end, i've been reading some docs... Things started to make sens to me, but I still cannot authenticate, still the same errors. One more thing that catch my  attention now is the time it takes to open a telnet session to cisco device which has the ACS for auth server.
My AD(Active Direct) and the ACS server are local same subnet(server subnet). Ping to the ACS from my desktop which is in different subnet is only take 1ms. To confirm that the issue is the ACS server, I decided to use another server in remote location, the telnet connection is way faster than the local ACS.
Let's brain storm together to figure out this guys.
    Thanks in advance,

    1. Why under EAP-TYPE it shows MS-PEAP not EAP-TLS? I did configure EAP-TLS....
    2. Why sometimes it just shows the MAC of the client for username?
    3. Why  it puts me in DEFAULT-GROUP even though i belongs to a group well definy in the acs?
    2. Secondly, When I check in pass authentications... there is what i saw

In the output below, it says that the user is authenticate and it puts the user in the right group with the right username, but the user never really authenticate. Maybe for the first few seconds when I initiate the connection.
Before I forget, the suppliant is using WIN XP and 802.1x is enable. I even uncheck not verify the server and the ACS under External User Databases, I did  check ENABLE EAP-TLS machine authentication.
Thanks in advance for your help,
    Crazy---

I had this message recently. The first issue I found was that the username entered into the laptop was not correct (I had djohnson, need to have DJohnson)
The second issue I had was that my AP's were not authenticating to my WDS access point. I had turned off LEAP on my ACS server by accident causing the WDS authentication to fail. Once I turned this back on, my AP's authenticated to my WDS device and my users authenticated to the AP's.
Otherwise, the meaning of this is that the certs are not matching up correctly with the server either due to expiered certs, incorrect cert type on the users machine or incorrect information in the cert.
    Hope this helps.

  • Encryption Fails during System Check

I am doing an enterprise rollout of Bitlocker and out of the thousands that have been prompted and successfully encrypted, I have two that fail during the system check. (Power Cable and CD/DVD). Bitlocker thinks that there is a disc in the drive, when
there is nothing in the drive (no mounted ISO either). I have at least 1000 more that have yet to be encrypted, so it is likely that I will bump into this again.  I can't find anything in the Service & App logs that explain what is happening.
Does anyone have a solution to this???

    Hi Hoosierdaddy42,
In the article "BitLocker Drive Encryption in Windows 7: Frequently Asked Questions" under the heading 'What causes BitLocker to start into recovery mode when attempting to start
the operating system drive?' one of the items listed is:
Having the CD or DVD drive before the hard drive in the BIOS boot order and then inserting or removing a CD or DVD.
There are other things on that list that may be related.
    Hope this helps,
    David
