DVD video tutorials for Logic?

I'm posting this for a small established publisher of video tutorials for Logic Pro.  They have produced courses for Logic 7, 8, and 9 in both DVD and digital download formats as well as Mac App Store apps for LP9.  However now that LPX is available only from the Mac App Store, is it worth creating a DVD format version?  Would anybody still be interested in a DVD?

Hi Kilmar. Don't know about the apple site, but as others have replied macprovideo.com have an excellent range. There are free downloadedable examples and some to watch on their site. The tutorials that come with V8 are only song files; not actual tutorials. I was looking for them too! There are also a couple of books from Apple pro training. Logic Pro 8 and Logic express 8 by David Nahmani. Also Logic Pro 8 Beyond the basics by David Dvorin. Both come with a DVD with 30 day version of expres and work files to go with the various topics described. I've got the Version 7 books and they are excellent. Version 8 won't be published until end of OCt and 1st week Nov in the US. In Australia, where I live, not until Feb 2008. {boring!] but they are available from US publishers. Let me know if you want more info. Hope this helps. Scorpii.

  • Xmas is Coming! Would You Like 50 FREE Video Tutorials for FCE/FCP?

Ripple Training produce some excellent tutorials on CD.
However, they also give away over 50 video tutorials for FCE/FCP.
Many of them are for FCP BUT (most) also apply to FCE.
They deal with each topic in a short and punchy style. I found them easy to follow and learned some useful quick tips.
They are QT movies which can be downloaded so that you can use them whenever you want. (Allow about an hour to download them all - you have to do them one at a time). I found it quicker to download all of them (except for a few dealing with multi-camera work etc.) rather than viewing them on the website to sort them out.
    http://www.rippletraining.com/engine/free_tutorials.html
Hope you find them as useful as I did.
    Ian.

Just a couple of additional points for newcomers:-
    1. The estimation of an hour (or so) to download them all refers to Broadband (ADSL). Normal "Snailmail" internet will take around 10 hours!
    2. To download each lesson choose File>Save Page As. A window will appear saying it will be saved as a QuickTime Movie on the Desktop. Click Save.

Thanks, pancenter, I never would have known this. Compression on the fly? Once I convert/export a file doesn't it simply become a smaller file? If there's compression on the fly, isn't a large file being compressed even more?
Once you export the file to a compressed format, the codec that does the compression also has to decompress on playback. The DV file is not compressed, it is the native video/audio format, there is no translation when playing.
An audio example: A 5.5Meg mp3 file is actually a compressed 47.6Meg Wav file.
In order to play the compressed format the computer (PC, Mac whatever) has to have a codec or audio player of some kind that converts the mp3 to it's native 44.1, 16-bit Wav format. Depending on the codec, it will require some CPU to decompress and play in real time.
So no, it doesn't just become a smaller file.
    Nothing is free!

  • Video tutorials for completel LR newbies?

A few years back I had been using CS5, (but not very well), and also an application by Nikon called Capture NX2. I got semi proficient with NX2 and like the results I got with that. As time went on I slowly moved on from my photography hobby, (still have all my gear though).
Just recently I've got the photo bug again and I really enjoy editing the shots I take. I've never used LR before so I was wondering if there are video tutorials for the absolute basics?

Here is a good set of beginner tutorials that I think every new user of Lightroom should watch:

  • Video tutorials for beginners

I work at a technical school and have created some video tutorials for beginning After Effects users.  The effects shown are not difficult, "how'd he do that?" effects, but are common effects seen on television.  I chose this approach so that our students' portfolios would be more practical and marketable.  Thought I would share these.  Click the link below.  On the main page click the Broadcast button, then scroll to the bottom of that page.

Since you know the basics of Photoshop most of the books would probably not do you much good.  But you have several options.
One is video tutorials without the sound.  I have used them this way when I can not hear it well enough or person has accent.  The trick it to view in full screen and have you finger on the pause button.  Then write down the steps they are doing.  Even thought they are saying what they are doing most show the mouse clicks, but they can be quick, and you may have to play a couple of times to see what they are doing.  If you are somewhat familiar with the program you may be able to guess what they are doing to bring up the tool or step.
The other option is to go to a bookstore and page through some of the more advanced issues to see if the cover what you want.  Since you need CS5 you can look at either CS5 or CS6 instruction, and just disregard the new stuff for CS6.  Martin Evening is a well respected photoshop author that you can check out.  I have "Adobe Photoshop CS3 for Photographers" and it is quite though.  It also comes with a DVD showing some of the techniques.
    Hope this helps.
