Dvd viewer disc not recognized

I insterted a disc into the drive to view a sunday school video. DVD player (apple icon)
put out a message that there was not a recognized disc (paraphrasing).
I tried to eject the disc but macbook pro won't eject the disc.
should I look for another app to locate & eject the disc?
This macbook is a year old with no previous problems with the disc drive.
Oh, all my softward gets updated regularly but I had some problems with Maverick
trying to update several times. I don't believe I have a hd screen, and Maverick
is having a problem with this.
Suggestions about how to eject the disc? Thanks

Hey there MrsGart,
It sounds like your disk will not eject from the drive, and is causing an error about the disc not being a recognized format. If there is no DVD icon on the desktop to drag to the trash,  I would try this step from the article named:
If you can't eject a CD or DVD or open the drive tray
http://support.apple.com/kb/ts2097
If that doesn't work, restart the computer, then hold down the mouse button or trackpad button while the computer is starting up, until the disc is ejected.
To restart, choose Restart from the Apple menu.
If you are unable to remove the disc from the drive please contact Apple, contact an Apple Authorized Service Provider, or make an appointment with an Apple Retail Store for additional troubleshooting, evaluation, or service.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
Cheers,
Sterling

Approx half of my previously recorded DVD's content not recognized. The DVD is recognized as recordable (unused) when inserted, but actually has been burned and contains content. Content is mixed... RAW files/Aperture projects. Running on OS 10.6.8, 17" MBP.

If you can't boot from a recovery disc by turning the machine on, the drive is malfunctioning. Time for a repair.
If you simply can't see it in My Computer, see this document.

    Hi,
For this issue,I would like to know if we can access or see the file in the DVD.
Did you receive the error message?
I suggest you check the Device Manager to see if the device is marked with a yellow exclamation point.
Meanwhile, please use the CD/DVD troubleshooter  tool ,which can automatically find and fix some problems with CD/DVD.

  • DVD / Disc not recognized Equium A100

I've recently purchased an Equium Laptop with Vista installed. On my old pc (WXP) I backed up a lot of photos and files onto a DVD disc using nero, when I try to load these onto my laptop the disc is not recognized.
I have many files on other DVDs these are also not recognised, I wish to transfer these files onto my laptop. Can anybody help out with this?
    Thanks in Advance

    Hi
As you probably not known, not every CD or DVD is compatible with every drive.
This means that sometimes the medium cannot be recognized and the drive cannot read or write on CD or DVD.
In my knowledge in the user manual you should find a list of compatible CD and DVD.
PS: I use the TDK CDs and TDK DVDs. Im very satisfied

  • CS5 -- Acrobat 9 Pro disc not recognized

PC, running Windows 7. I just installed CS5 Design Premium from the DVD and all seems to be well. Then I inserted the Acrobat 9 Pro disc. The drive spins for awhile, then I get a prompt to insert a disc (which is already inserted). Same thing happens when I insert the Content disc. Both discs are recognized on other PCs, and every other disc I have -- including the CS5 DP disc of course -- works fine in the same drive.
Any ideas on how to fix this?
    Thanks, John

I hit the same problem except I had a Reader X installed not a pro version.  For me the solution was to really make sure that nothing else was running.  I followed the steps from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2438651#reso2 the link is goofy so here is the pertinent text:

  • After complete OS reinstall, software DVD's are not recognized

I recently had to completely reinstall my OSX and wipe my HD. I did this for 'spring cleaning' so to speak.
After my Erase and Install OSX I started reinstalling the various software I use. These included both CD and DVD install discs. Smaller programs, on a Install CD, work just fine and have been installed.
However, my larger software that come on Install DVD's are not being recognized by the superdrive. For example, I have tried all of my Adobe CS4 DVD's, as well as my Pro Tools DVD. The same thing happens to all of them.
I insert the DVD, it starts whirring/spinning in the drive, then it slows, stops, then repeats. As if it is attempting to read the DVD over and over and over again. This process continues for about 3-5 minutes until it simply gives up and pops up a box saying that I have inserted a blank DVD.
Obviously none of these DVD's are blank, in fact they contain the very expensive and important software that I have purchased! It is also frustrating that I have to wait this 3-5 minutes before I have the option to eject the disc, as the superdrive is continuously trying to read it.
I tried booting the computer with CommandOption+PR as was suggested, but that didn't change anything.
    Suggestions? Thank you.

Run a DVD Lens Cleaner disc through it, often just a tiny spec of dirt or dust will cause read issues.

  • Windows 7 Beta installation issue- Disc not recognized??

Hello everyone, im trying to install windows 7 beta 1 x64 in boot camp.
I downloaded the beta ISO from Microsoft and checked the SHA1 checksums to make sure they're ok.
The disc burned fine in Disk utility
    I get this error
"The installer disc could not be found.
Insert your Windows installer disc and wait a few seconds for the disc to be recognized."
    Its in the drive :S
Not sure if it matters, Im burning to a DVD+R, brand new. To eject it, it keeps attempting to get read, I had to run drutil tray open. Then it said I had a blank cd inserted, and asked what I wanted to do, I chose eject. The CD is readable on a windows machine fine.
The drive is fine as well, other discs work. I dont get it. The SHA1 checksums were fine, the disc burned fine in disk utility, whats wrong? is it possible that I have to rename the file to the names that Nermal was using? I shouldnt think so...
    Anyone have any ideas?

^^tried this also, burned in diskutility, same error.
The DVD's are bootable on other windows computers. Not a burning issue.
I can use my Win XP SP2 Home 32bit edition fine.
I was able to boot off my Mac OS X Dvd, so its not a read issue. Its something with the specific file or disc. I have no idea what to try next. Neither the 32bit or 64bit is even read by my computer. The more I think about it the more Im thinking its the disc itself, possibly an issue with the super drive and DVD+R? Or my Fujifilm DVD+R's? The discs sped?(up to 16x) I mean the discs are read by other computers, my computer reads like all other discs fine except this one, ***?
Thanks for any and all support.

Here's an idea for people wanting to test Windows 7 -
    Setup a VM with Sun's VirtualBox. It doesn't have a pre-configured Windows 7 profile so I used Windows 2008 64-bit.
Setup a 40GB dynamic disk, allocate memory, no need to burn DVD, it can install from the ISO.
I'm running this under Vista but should work fine in OS X version of Sun as well. If you want to try running VB with Windows 7 from XP and low on disk space, set aside an external drive with NTFS.

  • Memorex DVD-RW spinsm not recognized, ejected

My wife has a MacBook Pro running 10.5.1 with these specs:
    HL-DT-ST DVDRW GWA4080M:
    Firmware Revision: AA26
    Interconnect: ATAPI
Burn Support: Yes (Apple Shipping Drive)
    Cache: 0 KB
    Reads DVD: Yes
    CD-Write: -R, -RW
    DVD-Write: -R, -RW
    Write Strategies: CD-TAO, CD-SAO, CD-Raw, DVD-DAO
Media: Insert media and refresh to show available burn speeds
When inserting Memorex DVD-RW and Verbatim DVD-R both blanks discs spin then stop and get ejected. there's not even a pop-up saying it isn't recognized. Sometimes, the DVD-R by Verbatim burn but can't be read in her optical drive (but they can be read in my MacBook with all info in tact!)
Any ideas what's wrong with those discs or with her optical drive?
She has some success burning Melody DVD+R discs. Her drive can also read those.
According to the hardware specs listed above her computer should be able to read all of those discs.
Thanks for any help you can provide.

You will want to ensure your USB DVDRW drive is properly connected to the Windows 8 VM in question.
To check this you will want to use the Vmware vSphere client to connect to your Vmware ESX/ESXi host.
Next, you will want to edit the settings for your Windows 8 virtual machine and check that you have added a USB controller and then connected the USB device to the controller. This is a manual assignment. If your DVDRW drive you wish to connect is actually
connected via SATA on the motherboard of the host then you will want to go through the same process to ensure the CD/DVD drive of the host has 'connected' and 'connect at power on' selected under settings.

  • External hard disc not recognized

I have been using a WD external hard disc with Time Machine. Today I had it plugged into a USB powered hub when the house electrical power briefly went off then on, twice. A message appeared stating that device was removed incorrectly (or words to that effect). Now the HD does not appear on the desktop. It is recognized in "about this computer" as a USB device. It is not recognized in disc utility and thus can not be mounted.
    All suggestions appreciated.

Answered my own question. Working now. Connected directly to computer USB and ignored it for a couple of hours and now it is visible on the desktop and appears to be working.

  • Dvd player "disc not supported" after update

This has occured after downloading the latest updates of:
    quicktime 7.1.3
    iTunes 7
    front row
mac the ripper-deleted this straight after as well, hadn't used it though.
I am talking about 'purchased DVDs here that used to open in 'dvd' straight away. As soon as I downloaded the above I get-disc not supported.
    What is going on?

the first thing i would try is going to disk utility in utilities, selecting the macintosh hd, then clicking on repair disk permissions. if that doesn't help, try booting to open firmware holding apple-option-o-f and then typing in the following commands--
    reset-nvram (hit return)
    set-defaults (hit return)
    reset-all (hit return)
the last command restarts the computer. let me know how that is going. [ 8 ) ]

  • DVD R discs not being read

Hi I have a SunFire V215 SPARC server currently running Solaris 10 11/06. I'm trying to upgrade to Solaris 10 8/11 and I've burnt the DVD image onto a DVD-R and DVD+R disc. The problem I'm having is the server will just not recognise the discs and refuses to mount them or show anything from them. The system has been setup (not by me I'm a newbie) so that when you insert a CD or DVD it auto mounts and appears on the desktop. When I insert the original Solaris 10 11/06 DVD which is an original ORACLE factory pressed DVD it loads up fine. I asked ORACLE to send me the original media but all they did was burnt the image onto a DVD R and sent that to me and that doesn't load either. All factory pressed DVDs work fine. DVD R discs don't. At first I thought faulty hardware (PANASONIC) so ORACLE sent me a new player (TEAC) but that does exactly the same. I'm guessing I'm missing a patch or some hardware configuration setting but have no idea what it is. ORACLE support takes days to respond to any queries and I'm lost as to what to try next. Any advice please? Many Thanks in advance.
Edited by: sasmj on 21-Dec-2011 09:19

Sorry, I probably didn't make it clear. The DVD drive does not read ANY DVD R disc, regardless of manufacturer and regardless of whether -R or +R. The disc which ORACLE sent me early this week for SOLARIS 10 8/11 update was just another DVD R disc (you can tell because when you flip it over you can clearly see the burn marks on the underside of the DVD). The original SOLARIS 10 11/06 came on a factory pressed DVD as did the Developer Tools. Both these discs are read fine by both V215 and V880 servers. I do not have any other non bootable DVD R discs that I can try.
There are no messages in /var/adm/messages when inserting any non-readable DVD R disc.
Alan, the fact that you have the same model of DVD drive makes me think that the problem lies with the architecture of the V215 and V880 servers. Especially judging by what user5287726 mentioned. I'm assuming you don't have either of these servers? Thanks.

  • CD/DVD-ROM is not recognized.

I recently replaced my HD and all is well except the CD/DVD-ROM isn't recognized. It worked fine before the old HD crashed.
I'm not familiar with jump settings but on the new hard drive there is a diagram that shows choices of "Device 0", "Device 1", and "Cable". I'm assuming that the jump pins are on the right rear of the HD and there is no jump connecting two pins. This tells me it's set to "Device 0" I'm guessing I need to set them to "Device 1". The HD came with nothing to connect the pins. Where can I get a jumper for the Fujitsu HD and will this get the optical drive going again?

  • DVD-R Disc not recognised in Lion.

I find I cannot play a DVD-R ( I receive a message saying it is not recognised!) whereas It used to work well. Since I upgraded to Lion some time ago It has worked sometimes and not others. Has anybody got any suggestions? I would greatly appreciate any suggestions you might have. Thankyou June

    Hi
Can be one or more of several things - I'll Guess
    • Did You really make a Video-DVD (via a DVD authoring program) - he ones that are burned from DeskTop are Data-DVDs
    • Brand of DVD - Matters - I only use Verbatim
    • Type of DVD - Matters - Here You seem to do like me - use DVD-R as
DVD+/-RW or DVD+R - is not my choice
    • DL-DVDs use to give more problems than SL-DVDs
    • I RUN A CLEANING DVD (no liquid - but the brush onses) from time to time
    • Trash iDVD pref file - or rather start a new User-Account and have a new go (this way by-passes lot's of pref. and cache files.
    • Run repair permissions - Disk Util tool
    • Run repair hard disk - Disk Util tool (but to do this You need to re-start Mac - BUT NOW FROM DVD or external HD with Mac OS)
    • Free space on start-up Hard Disk - I never let this go less than 25Gb

  • HP DVD Writer 740b not recognizing DVDs

My 740b will not recognize DVDs. I have no problems with CDs but any DVD I put in the tray isn't recognized. I initially thought the problem was with the DVD+R I was using but I also have a Slimline s3132w with a DVD writer installed and it burned and read the same discs with no problems. I tried several commercal DVDs (movies) and when I try to play them I get a no disc in drive error. I also have a Lite-On DVD SOHD-16P9S DVD ROM on the same system and have no problems what so ever playing the same discs. I have tried replacing the ATA data cables post attempting the trouble shooting tips given on the support web page. I have upgraded the firmware hoping this might alleviate the problem with no success. As I stated before this problem is only with DVDs, the drive has no problems what so ever with CDs. I have a feeling the problem my be with my updating to Windows XP SP3. I had done so before but removed it because my Linksys Wireless Adapter(PCI) wouldn't function with it installed. That problem has been repaired and now this. The system the drive is installed in is as follows:
     HP a1203w
                      cpu: Athlon 64 3800+ @ 2.2ghz
video: ATI 9550 w/256mb video memory
audio: Sound Blaster Audigy Z2S Platinum
             boot drive: Seagate ST340014A 40GB
    secondary drive: Seagate ST3250620A 250GB

OK chalk me up too to the list of users whose HP DVD Writer 740b cannot "see" blank DVD's and CD's.
Full marks to HP in that I am still smoothly running a Pavilion Media Centre PC EG211AA-ABG m7288a. I find the older plug compatablity useful and have beefed up RAM making it still a powerful "retro" media machine after all these years.....
However after a power failure caused a disk error that trashed my Windows XP and while it restored (as in full reset) like a trooper I took the opportunity to do a clean upgrade to Windows 7 (64bit) seeing as XP is no longer supported. And yes my HP DVD Writer 740b cannot detect blank DVD's and CD's although it can read those with content. It seems to be acting more like a CD ROM drive than a Read Write drive.
I have tried ALL the suggested fixes to no avail and yes my "shell detection" service is operational and on automatic.
But here's the rub as it were. My HP Support Assistant assures me that I have a HP DVD Writer 740b installed and running ED24 firmware. So I was hopeful when I found that there was an HP upgrade from the ED24 firmware (sp26595.exe - DVD-RW 16X HP DVD Writer 740b Drive Firmware Update ). HOWEVER even if I run it in XP compatable mode it returns the message that I do NOT have a HP DVD Writer 740b installed and therefore no upgrade is required.
The label on the front of the drive is "LightScribe DVD +/- Writer / CD-Writer".
Is the HP Assistant wrong in identifying it as an HP DVD Writer 740b? Also could the drive be getting confused thinking a blank disc is a lightscribe disc in upsidedown ready for printing? I have to try and find a way to reload the LabelPrint software (have the LSS) that was lost when I upgraded to Windows 7. Probably can't retrieve it from the old XP recovery disk.
Any NEW thoughts (especially as to why firmware upgrade does not see the drive) most wrlcome as apart from this one little thing the Pavilion is performing like a trooper and is an excellent advertisement for the durability of HP products (which is why we brought 3 HP laptops as well.
    Hopeful thanks in advance.
