DVD .VOB  & .TS Files playback in FCP 7

I am looking for an efficient way to edit video directly from DVDs..... In the past I have always used Mpeg Stream Clip and it has worked great.
The other day I dragged a .VOB file directly into FCP and the video played very clean, but there was no audio.
Is there a way to being .VOB or .TS files directly into FCP.

  • Why doesn't QuickTime 7 or QT-PRO or the MPEG 2 Plug-In play DVD\VOB files?

I can’t tell you how ripped off I feel. Please explain why you don't come out and say “QuickTime 7, The latest, greatest, best thing since sliced bread, doesn’t play DVD\VOB files. Neither does the $32 QuickTime-Pro nor the $23 MPEG 2 Plug-In. Why did I have to pay $55 dollar to find this out? The ads are deceptive. Maybe it’s by accident, once you know it doesn't play commercially-produced DVD movies and you re-read the ads you notice that they never come out and say it will play commercial DVDs either. The only place it actually comes out and says it does not play commercial DVD Movies is in the last sentence of the help file that says you need to purchase the plug in to play VOB movies......
    Here are the links:
    QuickTime page:
Never actually says you will be able to view this type of store bought DVD but it shows pictures of them(king Kong).
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/player/win.html
    QuickTime PRO Page:
This is the really deceptive page, it shows a scene from Kong Kong and the "recording tool bar" over it as well as out and out deception like where is says "Even those who simply like to watch movies or movie trailers in full screen and save their favorite movies for viewing later will enjoy using QuickTime 7 Pro."
it also has a right info bar titled
    "Don’t Steal Movies”
    followed by
“If you see something you want to watch again and again, QuickTime 7 Pro lets you quickly save your favorite content to your hard disk.
(Picture of menu showing “Save as QuickTime Movie”)
“Professional studios around the world spend millions of dollars and man-hours producing commercial entertainment. Please don’t steal their work or in ten years, it will cost $50(2) to see
    a movie in the theater."
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/pro/win.html
Finally the truth, "Using the QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component with VOB files" support file page:.
    The first paragraph says this:
"If you have the optional QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component"(a Link to the store) "installed with QuickTime 6 or later, you can play back video in Video Object (VOB files), which are used in the DVD-Video specification and contain the mutiplexed audio and MPEG-2 video data."
Then in the very last sentence on the page it says "Please note that the component will not play back encrypted VOB files, such as those found on commercially-produced DVDs, in QuickTime Player."

Mr. Napoli, I fully understand that it is illegal to circumvent the anti-coping protection however, it is my Understanding via "Fair use and Practices" provisions in the US copyright laws that I can make a copy of my DVD for personal use. If this was truly illegal then Apple's MAC app "HandBrake" is illegal. So lets not pretend the functionality to move/copy commercial DVD content to your IPOD for viewing is outside of Apple's realm, it’s not. As far as being “clearly stated” the information would have to be presented on the same page as the offer to purchase in order to be “clearly stated”. Apple puts the info in a “support” FAQ you would only read after you realize the software doesn’t do what you expected. The application support guys at my local store told me today that “everyone thinks that QuickTime will let you watch commercial DVDs” Apple need to offe3r a “FREE” update enabling this functionality.

  • Batch convert VOB, DVDs, Other video files to IPOD, IPhone

I have an Ipod Classic and an IPhone. I have backed up many of my DVDs to my hard drive in DVD Format (series of VOB) files. I'm trying to find a piece of software that can easily just grab a slew of these files and convert them to Ipod and/or iPhone compatible MP4 files unattended. I am not having any luck. I've tried several. Most are lousy at handling VOBs directly and I haven't found any that will do a whole bunch of movies in batch mode. Anybody have a good recommendation. (Windows XP Professional). Thanks.

We're not supposed to talk about DVD conversion according to the terms of service ...
So I'll assume these VOB files are from your HOME MOVIE DVDs you burned yourself and suggest the Videora iPod Classic Video Converter.
    http://www.videora.com/
It's a really nice program that converts not only your HOME MOVIE DVD VOB files, but AVI, MPEG, and others. You can set the CPU usage from high to low with five settings, it has a queue which you can add multiple files to, and it will minimize to the taskbar for compact convenience. There are other Windows programs that do much the same, but I prefer Videora. Oh ... and it's freeware!!

  • No audio when using Compressor to convert DVD .VOB files to Quicktime...

    Hello,
From a previous post that I found, my understanding is that you can use Compressor to convert DVD .VOB files to quicktime files. I've tried this several different ways but I only get video and no audio. Is it possible to also get audio?
    Thanks!

    Hi:
As far as I know, no way to make ANY conversion from a VOB file using Compressor.
You can download MPEG Streamclip for free and extract the elementary streams from the VOB files . . . of course, you can do it from your own DVDs, not from commercial ones.

  • Big Problem! How can I take a DV [for iMovie] from DVD VOB files using Tost

    Hi there,
I have a Toster 7, copy all DVD VOB [generate on a Sony 305 DVD] files to my Hard Disc and place them on the Toster browser... when I click to export them it just export part of my VOBs... just the first record video from the VOBs... how can I export all videos?
Please help me, it will save my life!
    Tks in advance,
    Ricardo

ahh, you try one of the "dirty tricks"..
    a) you have to select a .vob before hitting Apple-K
    b) your disk has to be "finalized" in yuur camera... read its manual how to accomplish that....

  • How Do I Use DVD Studio Pro Files In iDVD?

I had somebody create a DVD for me using DVD Studio Pro. (This was a compilation of many different videos.) It turned out great.
I now want to make a DVD of one of those videos on my own using iDVD '08.
I have the raw video/audio files. But, my problem is the raw files that were used for the DVD Studio Pro project are separated into one video file and one audio file. I don't know how I can get them both into iDVD. I was told that I have to recombine these two files into one file. But, how do I do this and still maintain the best quality?
(I am not a video expert by any means, but I can tell you that the video file is a ".mpeg" and the audio file is an ".ac3". When looking at the .mpeg file in the finder it lists its Kind as "MPEG Movie" and when looking at the .ac3 file in the finder it lists its Kind as "Unix Executable File".)
(I'm using iDVD 7.0.1 - I do have Quicktime Pro - I do not have the Quicktime MPEG-2 Playback component - I do not have DVD Studio Pro)
Thanks in advance for your help!

Q: How Do I Use DVD Studio Pro Files In iDVD?
    A: You don't, essentially.
DVDSP is apple's top end app and it is intended to be used with FCP > Compressor > DVDSP. All of these are pro apps.
i-Apps are consumer apps all of which are QT based. With that in mind ....
now that doesn't mean you can't use FCP > iDvd. You can. But you have to do it in a way that iDvd will read all the files (meaning you must think in terms of QuickTime and export in this way). So when you export your QT File / Movie from FCP over to iDvd, it will look something like this hopefully regardless of the raw image & audio files you have already compiled which unfortunately will NOT work with i-Apps BUT will work with apple's pro apps which is the intended workflow / direction of said files in the first place.
Btw ... if your QT movie has chapter markers then please use the following settings so iDvd can read these markers. (if on the other hand you were looking to export this file to DVDSP; then you would choose DVDSP Markers.
Let me know if the above helps. If not, just come on back.

  • Mpeg2 DVD VOBs Video and Audio into QuickTime ?

How can I read the mpeg2 VOB files from some DVD that we created into QuickTime Pro with the MPEG2 playback component ?
We have an app that does video and audio processing built on QuickTime. After the processing is done the result is written to an mp4 file using QuickTime export. We now have to be able to read DVDs that we create into this app (QuickTime), and after processing we must se the QuickTime export option to create the mp4 file. These are not commercial DVDs and are not copy protected. I'd like to just be able to read the mpeg2 video and audio directly into QuickTime but I haven't yet found a good way to do this. Here is what I have tried:
    1) I can read individual VOB files with QuickTime, but I don't get any audio and I need all the VOB files as one.
    2) I have used MPEG Streamclip to open the DVD VOB files and exported the demuxed mpeg2 video and aiff audio. Both files open together in QuickTime but since the total size of the video is over 4 GB the video and audio are off and drift more so throughout the video.
    3) I used libdvdread to read the DVD and create a single MPEG2 file. This can be read by QuickTime but I don't get any audio. From what I understand this is muxed video and audio which QuickTime doesn't understand, but is playable by VLC.
I think I could probably ulibdvdread to read the VOB files into a muxed MPEG2 file, then use ffmpeg to convert this to a very large DV stream, then import that into QuickTime, but there has to be a better way than to do the lengthly and large file size conversion to DV which is not a format I ultimately want.
Before we go and write our own, I'm looking for a simple way to read the mpeg2 video and audio from a DVD format directly into QuickTime and preferably something that can be integrated into our app and not use another commercial stand alone app.

OK, I can't tell you what we are doing, you'll have to trust me that it's for a very good cause. I'll simplify the use case as an example. If I can do the following we'll be OK:
    1) Read video/audo files from a DVD that we created
    2) Open these files with the QuickTime Player, click on Export to Apple TV to create an output file.
I'd rather not do an interim conversion of the video data (like use a 3rd party app to convert to mp4 first and then read into QT, but I'm considering a conversion to DV) because that could seriously hurt the apps effectiveness. I also can't use another app (MPEG Streamclip, HandBrake, VisualHub, etc.) to do the conversion.

  • PE7 Any way to have DVD VOB 'loop' when you 'play all'

    Hi,
I want to have my DVD VOB..   autorun (which it does) and loop..  which it does not.   Is there any way to create it in PE 7 to loop?
I have found the  opendvd.pvm  xml file..  that may be where the loop command needs to be placed...     and maybe this needs to be done in a '2 step' job.
create the VOB..  and associated files.. then update the opendvd.pvm file with the needed syntax (outside of PE7) and burn a second DVD.
Other way is to do brute force..and repeat the scenes multiple times before buring the DVD VOB.. but that's pretty ugly.. but a 'choice'
    Any suggestions/ideas are appreciated...
    Thanks.

    blueboar
No looping with just Premiere Elements 7, EXCEPT, if the Timeline is not huge and you repeat the Timeline content on the Timeline multiple times. For that matter you could look into the TV's player controls to see if there is a "repeat" button at that level that you could set at playback.
A popular way to get that loop was to burn to folder, not burn to disc, in Premiere Elements and then use the pgedit software to do the rest. The procedure is still listed on the pgedit web site, but the link to the details does not open for me.
    http://download.videohelp.com/r0lz/pgcedit/
I did come across another free software called InfoEdit that might do the job with the Premiere Elements burn to folder route.

Is your Premiere Elements 12/12.1 running on a Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 64 bit computer or a Mac computer?
What is the brand/model/settings of the camera recording your video?

Are you sure about the Frame Width and Frame Height that you gave 720 x 484? Did you mean 720 x 480?
    Yes, my err.  720X480
For the Frame Rate, was it really 29.97 frames per second and you rounded it off to 29 frames per second? Or,
is the frame rate really 29 frames per second?
If the properties that you just posted are representative of your source file, what project preset did you or the

  • Unable to import Vob vedio file in to my project

I am unable to import my VOB vedio file in to my Adobe Premier pro cs6.Please help me on this how can i edit .VOB file

vob files are files from DVD and sometimes they are copyrighted and have meta data in them that makes it hard to use.. cause the manufacturer of that DVD tried to add data to the file so people can't abuse the copyright. Not all vob files have just video in them.. some have other stuff in them ... like menus and weird stuff that is used by the DVD to display chapters and special features and so on.. So basically not all VOB files are equal .. they are not all the same.. so your problem could be any number of problems...
If you provide more info .. like maybe someone can help out a bit... but it may be hard to help solve the problem even WITH more info... depending where you got the file and what's inside it.  sorry that isnt very helpful right off the bat , but vob files can be weird.  Another problem with some vob files is that not all of them are written really 'correctly'... even though it is a standardized thing some programs that make vob files dont do a very good job of making them... so .. maybe more info from you could help.. but then again.. it might not lead to a happy ending for you...
    but good luck

  • How do i edit a DVD .VOB video

I recently had a VHS tape converted to a DVD by Costco.  It is in a .VOB file format.  What is the best way to edit in Premiere Elements vers 12?

    RichardAllenGaller
What exactly do you have on the DVD disc from Costco?
If you have it as a DVD-VIDEO on DVD which you can insert into the TV DVD Player, the for Premiere Elements 12
    a. But your DVD disc in the burner tray
    b. Open Premiere Elements and set the project preset manually for whichever applies to you
    NTSC DV Standard if 4:3
    NTSC DV Widescreen 16:9
    or
the PAL equivalent for PAL regions.
    c. Go to Add Media/"DVD Camera or Computer Drive"/Video Importer to rip the VOBs (video files) from the DVD-VIDEO.  The Video Importer then allows you to Save your VOBs to hard drive and/or Add to Timeline of the project hat you just set up with the settings of the project preset.
Details can be fine tuned when you need them. Example, best way to handle
Video Importer Save In field so that you do not get "video already imported" when you have not imported it yet.
Any audio out of sync issues

  • VOB Video files play in Premier Elements but not in Organizer

I just purchased a new Dell Studio 15 Laptop, running Windows 7 (64bit), with an i7 cpu, and my VOB video files play and show a thumbnail in Premier Elements 8 but do not in the organizer.  Has anyone found this problem and a solution?

    Hunt
Thank you for responding so quickly.  I first installed my Premier Elements 8 and Photoshop Elements 8 on our Vista desktop  computer, and everything worked fine.  I purchased my laptop with a  high end cpu, hoping to improve performance,  and moved my application over, and now I am unable to play these videos when in the Organizer, while they do play in Elements (they played in both applications on the slower Vista computer).
I tried to update premier elements to 8.0.1, (I am running 8.0)  but the updater sayes no updates are available.
I created the VOB files from my old family video tapes using a Sony DVDirect  DVD Recorder, model MRD-MC6 if that helps.  I didnt try to strip data from the files, because I dont know how, and think I shouldnt have to, given that everything worked fine on my older Vista desktop.
One other clue- if I try to import one file at a time to the organizer, I get the following error message:
"The selected file cannot be played because your system does not have the required compressor/decompressor (codec) installed.
Perhaps the Organizer and Premier Elements use different codecs, and the on in my organizer doesnt work."  Any ideas how to check if I have the proper codec(s)?

  • How create 1 dvd with 2 file

how create 1 dvd with 2 file

As you probably know,  DVD creation in Compressor and FCPX is very limited – and it only accommodates single tracks.
But there is no reason why you can't put multiple movies on a single timeline in FCP. Separate them with inserted gaps and add chapter markers to provide some level of navigation among them.
    Good luck.

  • How do I import old FCP projects that have mysteriously changed to Linux Executable files?  Is it as simple as renaming the files with the.fcp extension?

I had some FCP projects on an old G3 tower that I finally want to finish. I was able to grab everything, media, etc. to my macbook pro but all of the Final Cut Pro actual movies/projects have turned into "linux executable files" that FCP X won't import.
I tried googling this issue but didn't really see any good answers. Would it be as simple as renaming the files with the .fcp extension?  I can't recall if my old version (really old) of FCP saves projects as .mov or .fcp files, but I'm assuming I'm not the only person this has happened to.
    Thanks for your help!

I had some FCP projects on an old G3 tower that I finally want to finish.
What version of FCP was this? The project files can probably no longer be opened in the newer version of the OS. You could try adding the .fcp suffix, but I don't think it will help for this. Projects files are .fcp.
Regardless of the version, no legacy FCP projects will import into FCPX.
Media is a different matter. These are probably QuickTime .mov files. If these are appearing as Unix ececutables, they're probably not recoverable either.
