DVD will not play in dvd player

Hi,
I created a dvd in dvdpro and put into my dvd player and it says it can not play my dvd. Is there some sort of setting that I missed?

You misunderstand. You most likely created and burned an HD DVD in DVD Studio Pro.
iMovie will only build and burn standard DVDs so of course it will work.
Drew put up a link to another thread where this is discussed is excruciating detail. Read through it and you should be on you way to addressing your problem.

• DVD will not play in standard player?

Rookie to DVDSP. Created project in FCP, exported using Quicktime movie, brought into DVDSP and created dvd, first as HD DVD and read that a standard dvd player will not play so I created new project using all standard settings and still nothing. Dvd player says cannot read disc. I have watched entire tutorial on Lynda, read manual, and researched topics concerning this but am still stumped. Probably something simple but I'm really over my head and have wasted a pile of dvds. Any help would be appreciated.

First of all thanks again, watched Lynda tutorial on compressor and was able to compress. Ok, used setting for creating dvd in compressor. When compressor was finished it asked me to insert media to burn to disk. I did. The resulting dvd plays on my dvd player but looks horrible. Way too bright and nothing close to my project in FCP. From some of the tutorials and discussions I've read I'm assuming it is because my color levels are not correct?

action script in flash 7 and 8 was changes slightly and not
all things
are compatible from flash 6 files.
Go to file - publish setting and under FLASH tab select
version 6 and action script 1.0
This could help. Else you have no choice but redo the
template so it is new player
compatible.

• FLV files will not play in flash player

I'm an old GoLive user and I'm becoming very frustrated with
the new CS3 software. I am trying to encode a simple quicktime
movie into flash using Adobe flash encoder and then embed it into
my web page. Even when I use all the default settings in flash
encoder still nothing will play the movie even Flash Player 9. I've
posted it to my server and embedded it into my Dreamweaver page,
uploaded the new scripts and I still just get a blank white box
where the movie should play. Has anyone else come across this? I've
followed through the help menu and it appears like everything works
except it won't play.
Thanks,
Adam

I finally got some help from another forum and figured out
what I was doing wrong. Firstly to view the flv files on your
machine use VLC player. If they play in their entirety the way they
should there is nothing wrong with the encoding. When you embed the
flv files in dreamweaver be sure to upload the skin and upload the
flv file first and link to its remote http address and not the
local address.

• Burned CD will not play on CD player

I have successfully burned a music CD on a CD-R that plays on the computer. I put it in a CD player and it played once but when I tried to replay it again the player would not recognize the disk. I burned a second disk and the player would not recognize it at all. I record at 4x on audio. Any ideas?

Burned CDs that won't play in my '97 Chrysler WILL play in my '02 Toyota. I agree with the response regarding the specs of the players being used.

• Exported movie will not play on other computer

I made my first FCE4 movie today asa test, just to get teh hang of the basics of LiveType and rendering effects. I exported as Quicktime Movie, and the .mov plays great on my MacBook.
I transferred the file to my Windows XP desktop, and the file will not play on any player at all, including quicktime. I have the latest version of Quicktime and VLC, and also Media Player Classics, and all of them will play the audio but no video. VLC gives an error of "VLC does not support the audio or video format "icod"."
Any help here? I also tried re encoding the movie using handbrake on windows, and handbrake will not recognize it either. I transferred the file to my PC a second time to account for data corruption during transfer and same result.

I imported a couple clips from a camcorder in AVCHD 1920x1080 29.97 fps.just added some effects such as an insect eye and an earthquake for experimentation purposes, along with a quicktime transition between the two clips. Also a LiveType sequence in the beginning.
Using "Export quicktime movie" will allow the video to play on either QT or FCE4 on the originating machine, no problem, but no other player on the originating machine can play the video (audio is fine), and no player at all including latest version of QT can play it on other machines. From reading it sounded like an issue of "make movie self-contained" was checked or unchecked but i have tried both ways and it didn't correct the problem.
I attempted to export with quicktime conversion. I have tried 3 different codecs, and different setting that retained the 16:9 ratio, and each time the clip gets cropped on both planes like a zoom effect even though it does indeed remain 16:9.

• My recorded footage without sound will not play, but will when recorded with sound, any ideas?

Hi there community!
I have recorded alot of footage on a digital Harinezumi 3 camera and have run into a problem in post production.
Some of the footage is recorded with sound, and plays fine. However, with most of the footage, i chose to turn the recording of sound off. These files without sound will not play in any player, even when Perian is installed.
These are the specs of the video I have been able to find out.
File type: .AVI
Video Stream: JPEG
This is all I can find out, so I am thinking it is an M-JPEG file rendered as an AVI file. VLC player says it can not play the video or audio format 'undf', whatever that means. Another player says it needs a .moov encoder, but I do not see how this is possible. I have also tried attaching audio to it via Logic 9 with no success.
I am at a loss, and I really need this footage for a project. Any ideas?
Thanks for any help!!

It won't let me post the video in the forum, so here is a link to it in dropbox.
https://www.dropbox.com/s/k4nz8mg18p4thzd/Mountain%203.AVI?n=145237283
Accessed the file at dropbox. Played the DropBox "display" file in scripted player, played the same resource file using the Safari plug-in, and then downloaded the resource file using the QT 7 Pro "Open URL" option only to learn that this file was an H.264 transcode and not your original file. Used the DropBox download option to download the original Motion JPEG file in AVI file container. File plays as is in both QT X v10.2 and QT 7 v7.6.6 players under Mountain Lion v10.8.4 on my system.
Motion JPEG is one of the "lagacy" codec components turned off under Lion and which remains turned off under Mountain Lion. However, as I understand it, Motion JPEG files are supposed to be passively supported (playback supported) under these systems but requires the codec to be turned back on if you wish to export files using this codec. I turned both Motion JPEG and Motion PNG codecs back on quite a while back and have Perian installed which, as you can see, supplied the OpenDML version of the Motion JPEG codec component to actually play your file on my system. Unfortunately, since QT uses a LIFO codec component list generation strategy, I would have to remove Perian to test whether or not the system configured Motion JPEG component would then become the active decoder. (Did this a year or two ago but not willing to do so again at this time.)
Suffice it to say, the file should play in QT on your Mountain Lion system assuming the correct version of Perian is installed, it is actually active, and you have no conflicting software or hardware installed on your system. Have posted an MOV file containing your Motion JPEG video data in case you want to see if it will play correctly on your system.

• DVD-R discs will not play on DVD Player

The DVD-R discs I made will not play on DVD Player Version 4.0.
I transferred VHS to DVD-R using an RCA VHS/DVD Recorder. The discs played well in 3 different DVD players but will not play on my i-book.
Please help?
New At This
i-book G4 Mac OS X (10.3.9)

In a nutshell the problem is the fact that the Software used by the RCA recorder is for PC.
When recording DVD's the software that is available varys greatly.
Some of the top of the line software gives options to burn PC only, MAC only, and PC or MAC combined.
It was also brought to your attention to use VLC Player on your Mac the firmware that is used with this player will sometimes allow for playing DVD's that were burned on these VHS to DVD Burners.
Here are a few tips that affect reading and writing DVD. This link is only a small amount of what can and does affect, I suggest you do a Google search to learn all you can.

• DVD Player plays DVDs but will not play VIDEO_TS files from my hard drive

When logged into my home account DVD Player plays DVDs but will not play VIDEO_TS files that are on my hard drive. I get an error message: "there was a problem opening the media. Media type is not supported." When logged in as "root" DVD player does play these same files. Also, when logged in to my home account, I can play these same files in VLC.

Go this this thread for more details:
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1075814
But the gist of the fix is to delete or rename "~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.DVDPlayer.plist" and let the DVD Player build a new one. It seems that this is caused by a migrated PPC preference that borks DVD Player 5 on Intel Macs, which is what just happened to me. Hope this helps.

• IMac will not play the DVD that I have made on imovie and burned on iMac SuperDrive ?? (DVD plays fine on household DVD player and also play fine in Toshiba laptop ) Why not on the iMac - anyone know???

iMac will not play the DVD that I have made on imovie and burned on iMac SuperDrive ?? (DVD plays fine on household DVD player and also plays fine on Toshiba laptop ) Why not on the iMac - anyone know???

There are many reasons this could be the case but whether an optical disc can be read or not is a function of:
The reflective media layer of the disc
Whether the burned disc was a DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-RW, DVD+RW
The brand, model, and production lot of the disc
The specific frequency of the Write lasers that burned the disc
The specific frequency of the Read lasers that are attempting to read the disc
Are the Read lasers in the drive working (it is common for one set of lasers in a drive to fail while others continue to work)
How old are the Write and Read drives (laser frequencies change with age)
Is there dust on the read laser
Is there dust on the read lens
etc.
At one time it was estimated that fewer than 80% of all burned discs were readable in 90% of the drives. That has, I believe improved over time but at the same time it seems the faillure rate of lasers in the drives has increased but that may simply be the result of how many different read and write lasers there are in today's superdrives. Fortunately todays drives are a lot less expensive the replace -- now that Apple no longer installs optical drives in their computers.

• I've burnt a slideshow of my photos onto a DVD disc but it will not play on my DVD player. It plays ok on my acer laptop. I burnt the same disc with slideshow from my old dell computer

I've burnt a slideshow of my photos on my Apple Mac to a DVD+REW disc but it will not play on my DVD player or on a combined DVD/TV. However it will play on my wife's Acer laptop. I then erased the disc & burned another slideshow from my ancient Dell computer onto the same disc &it played just fine on everything. So it seems the problem ids somewhere in the Apple Mac process. Any ideas?

If you want to play material on a dedicated DVD Video hardware player, you must create a DVD video disc, and you must use a DVD authoring application. The software creates files that the DVD video player can play and will burn them to a recordable DVD disc. Examples of applications are:
Roxio Toast and iSky DVD Creator
Mac's used to be supplied with iDVD authoring software but Apple discontinued it in 2011.
Thanks for that. Will need to check iSkysoft out. I am in the process of looking for a VisualHub replacement/backup. Especially when it comes to ease of use. Toast is ok. Just looking for something along the lines of VH.

This is a known issue. It really comes down to two key factors - what type of DVD are you burning to + what type of DVD player you have.
This article will help. It's lengthy and can be technical in some parts but should shed some light on your problem.

• I transferred photos from my camera to my computer and created a burn folder. I recorded the burn folder on a DVD but it will not play on my DVD player. What am I doing wrong?

I transferred photos from my camera to burn folder on my macbook Pro. Made a DVD from the burn folder but it will not play on my DVD player. What am I doing wrong?

How did you do this burn? Did you use a program like iDVD? A DVD player requires that the data on the DVD is recorded in the proper format: MPEG-2. A program like iDVD will do this. There are other programs available that can do the proper coding (Roxio 'Toast' for example), but iDVD has the most features and is easy to use. It is no longer available from Apple, but if you search on Amazon, you can find 'iLife 11', a suite of programs including iDVD. It will function properly on Apple's current operating system, but it cannot make a High-Definition (Blue-Ray) presentation. It is Standard Definition only, as are all regular DVD's. One good way to present photos on a TV is to make a slidesow in iPhoto, then export that slideshow to iDVD, where it will be properly formatted for a DVD player. Or, iDVD can make its own slideshow of up to 99 photos. HTH.

• HT4718 After burning a slideshow from iPhoto export to a DVD, it will not play on my DVD player OS X 10.9.4

iMac 27' OS X 10.9.4 I burned a slideshow from iPhoto export to a DVD and now it will not play back on anything. The player said Unknown disc. What can i do?

I do find that using one of these programs will reduce the sharpness of the photos.
Granted, I've never used iPhoto - I use Photo to Movie for slideshows and various versions of iMovie for videos, but my pics are excellent quality and my videos are shot in 1080p (better camera) or 720p (small camera) and the results are superb on my TV using both iDVD and Toast. However, I do not encode in iDVD, I simply use it to add a theme and menus. The encoding is done by Photo to Movie, or iMovie 06 HD (the only version ever to process losslessly) and either/both are imported into iDVD as a complete .mov, or Toast.
Since using those methods, I've never had a problem with the sharpness or crispness of my footage. My eyes cannot discern a difference between my "production" and true HD (unless of course I shook the camera while shooting, LOL).

I created an iMovie with photos, music and titles; shared it with the media browser and burned it on a DV+RDL. The disc will play on my MacBook Pro, but it will not play on my Samsung Blu-ray Disc Player or a smaller portable DVD player. Why?

Probably because they don't accept that media.
Try using Verbatim DVD+DL (if your project exceeds 2 hours) or Verbatim DVD-R if it doesn't.
