DVD won't eject.  I'm in Iraq with no Apple contact.

I have a powerbook G4. I put a DVD in and I can't get it out. It doesn't show up on my desktop. It makes ejecting noises every minute or so but no disc ejects. I have tried the usual methods. Turning on holding the eject and mousepad button. I have even reset the PMU but nothing works. I am in Iraq so I can't call Apple support or get it fixed anywhere. Can anyone please help me. Desperate.
Thanks.

I tried the firmware trick as well as the Pram and all other tricks I could find on the Apple help and support web page. No luck at all. I'm afraid that maybe my optical drive is screwed. My computer is less than a year old. Any other options you can think of to get my DVD out of my computer?

When did yours come out? what does the above show as model and minimum build?
You should have yoru OEM OS X DVD, not one from another Mac, or retail, though the last retail OS X DVD was a year ago 10.6.3.
If it installed, I don't see an issue unless the drive had corrupt directory etc.
What you need to do is repair your boot drive or restore from backup.

  • Trying to setup my new ATV and it won't set date and time, and won't allow me to log in with my apple ID.

Trying to setup my new ATV and it won't set date and time, and won't allow me to log in with my apple ID to homeshare OR to test te network, which I know is correct since I changed it. I live in an apartment complex and the router is in my roommates room. ANY suggestions? I'm at the point where I may return this because it has been nothing but a hassle. I'm very annoyed and just want the product that I paid for to actually work.
The ABOUT section says Network Time: Skipped (reachable) and Activation: Failed (skipped)
I'm also using my MacBook Pro as the homesharing with iTunes up to date.

I had a similar issue wuth my new Apple TV.  If you (or your roommate) are able to change the router firewall settings, do that first.  I don't know the ports that you need, except that 123 is one of them (to set the time).  Then restart the Apple TV.  See if that will get you through the activation process.  I actually ended up restoring mine to factory settings, but I'm not sure if that step was really necessary.
I understand your frustration, though.  Getting the Apple TV to work was such a pain -- it almost feels like it is not really an Apple product.

  • DVD won't eject and MacBook pro 2,16 new

On a new Macbook pro 2,16 last generation the Disk won't eject, I have tried F12 and start but won't come out, anybody had the same problem the MAC try to eject the DVD but it won't come out

I would like to share with you my experience.
Only 2 hours after buying the MBP, I decided to re-install all the system to save space inHDD.
The second disk was stuck, I tried to pull it out without success.
I tried to see whet happened and i concluded that the CD hit the top of the slot.
So I decided to push with my thumb, reasonnably on the right hand side part of the computer (close to the trackpad) to move down the SuperDrive...An it worked.
I have to mention that I trid to find in the NET what was the fittings condition of the SD, and I knew there was some degree of feedom verticaly. I assumed it was just a matter of few millimeters.

  • My dvd won't eject

I bought my desktop 27 inch mac last year and haven't had any problems.  however, suddenly when I put in a dvd, i get a message that the disc is not supported.  Mind you, I'm inserting dvd's from Netflix and legit manufacturers. Today, I tried to circumvent the problem by opening dvd player before inserting the disc only to get the same message; and now the disc won't eject via the player, or via the keyboard.  I'm stumped.

    Hi, orange07 -
Don't know about the DVD not working. But, to eject it try this:
Restart. Immediately press the left mouse button, keep it held down. This is a hardware-based instruction to the Mac to eject all removable media.

  • Optical drive won't eject and can't power off from Apple menu!

I have a Quicksilver that has almost always acted great but ever since I physically moved the machine to another room I've been having intermittent problems. Here's a quick summary:
    -Overall more sluggish performance
-Occasionally the optical drive won't eject and I have to restart the whole machine. (I did replace the drive a couple years ago but have never had any problems until now).
-I can no longer shut down/restart from the apple menu, i have to push the power button in.
I used to get device removal error messages at inappropriate times but that seems to have stopped since I reseated my USB 2.0 card. Here's a list of the other remedies I have tried:
    -Repair permissions
-Make sure all cards/RAM seated properly
-Replaced PRAM battery (year was displaying 1970)
    -Ran DiskWarrior
    -Re-imaged entire boot drive
I can't remember if I've tried zapping the PRAM because this problem has been going on for about five months. None of this was an issue before I carted the machine into another room so hopefully I haven't dislodged anything. Also, I notice a lot of static build-up in the room despite the hardwood flooring. Perhaps that could be an issue and if so, any suggestions?
I was dreading that it could be my logic board, any advice?
    thanks,
    Jesse

Well....it may be fine for you to accept an inferior item, not I. I paid for a unit that was supposed to be fully operational and work as designed. I will not accept having to reboot every time I want to put a CD or DVD into my computer! That's like having to restart your car so the headlights work. Even if one doesn't drive at night, you would still expect the headlights to work ANYTIME you want them without the extra steps. I know "where" the issue is and I know "why" the issue is BUT unfortunately, there is not a fix I can find. Between uninstalling and reinstalling drivers and applications and etc. I give up. They will replace my unit according to Lenovo, with a brand new laptop. Should this one have the same issue, I will be disputing my CC charge, and sending the unit back to them for a full and complete refund. I wish I had a copy of WIn8 or Win7 without Lenovo's proprietary software embedded. I bet the unit would work as designed then, but to have them rewrite or add software with hooks directly into the core system is a recipe for disaster. I encourage you to do something about yours also. The more people that ALLOW this "type" manufactured fleecing, the more it will occur.
I guess I will find out just how well this replacement process works.

  • Playing dvd's on my laptop works but not with the apple tv viewer. What's going on?

My macbook pro with retina display works great when viewing dvd's with a usb DVD drive. As soon as I connect to the Apple Tv viewer the screen goes grey on my lap top and on my tv. What's going on?

if it worked it would be breaking the law
dvd's and blueray for that matter have an encryption which airplay would have to remove for it to work and thats not legal
to do some people report that some version of the vlc player works with airplay but that would mean they break the encryption before displaying it on the mac screen and as such break the law

  • Help! the DVD won't eject from my Macbook.

I turned it off for an hour to cool down and try again but it still won't work.
It's making the eject noise but the DVD doesn't come out, and it just seems to restart the film again as though I've put in a new DVD.

hold down the mouse / trackpad button when restarting the computer until the disc ejects

  • Won't read DVD, won't eject it either

Just got a new refurbished macbook, and whenever i put in a DVD the DVD doesn't show up on the screen, and it only plays after a few minutes. It is also difficult to eject the DVD and won't until after several tries

It reads and burns CD's and CD-R's no problem. It will read and play any DVD-R that was NOT burned using iDVD. (A standalone DVD recorder) I just burned a quick test DVD-R with iDVD 5.0.1. Interesting that it plays fine in both the imac; PC and a conventional home DVD player.
However, any DVD-R that was burned on the imac using iDVD PRIOR to Tiger will NOT read. (the imac claims it is blank)- I have trouble shooted it to be a Tiger and/or idvd 5.0.1 problem with DVD-R media. In summary, everything burns and reads EXCEPT for DVD-R media created with iDVD AFTER Tiger. I can play on the imac a DVD-R burned with iDVD after Tiger.
DVD-Rs created not using Tiger that were burned two years ago on a standalone machine play fine. So this seems to be a post Tiger issue with DVD-R media. Pretty crazy stuff.

  • ML dvd won't eject after use

This issue has been happening ever since I upgraded to ML.
I insert a DVD and after I use the drive for any purpose then try to eject the disc it will not eject unless I reboot the machine. I have tried everyway there is to eject and the OS responds as if it did but it doesn't eject. I can't remount it either. The other thing to note is when this has happend Disc Utilitiy won't run at all.
I am on the latest ML version.
    Thank you!

This didn't help. My issue is I can't eject the DVD after it's use without rebooting so I am not sure what repairing volumes would do for that. I did try it thought on every volume but it operates the same.

  • DVD won't eject

    Hello
I have a brand new G4 iBook for my classroom and started to burn my first
movie but when I loaded the DVD it didn't recognize it so I thought that was odd. (I've made several iMovies/DVD's) So when I tried to eject it I couldn't.
It tried but nothing. I've tried the paper clip, holding down on the trackpad, firmware restart, F12. Nothing. I read past posts but no one seemed to have much luck. Is there anything new? We have Applecare but it's a pain to have to bother with that. Thanks

If I were you I'd go with Applecare. I had a similar problem with my drive but unfortunately my Applecare had expired. So I had to delve into me iBook and remove the disc manually, not fun. Applecare would be much easier.

  • Dvd won't eject, only repeatedly makes whirling noises as if loading

    I don't understand!
I put in a DVD into my laptop to watch. Granted, it's a burned one and so I thought initially the whirling noises of loading were necessary. Until finally I realized it was ongoing, without any stop! Now, the sound repeats if I attempt to eject the DVD, and otherwise it will not come out.
I don't know what to do, help!

In the Apple stores in the US, you need an appointment. If you just show up, they will schedule an appointment for you, but it may be a long wait. Bring your accessories such a power adapter as well.
No charge for an evaluation or minor repair at an Apple store, in warranty or out. These sorts of things are usually repaired free, while you wait, as long as no parts are required. If dis-assembly is needed, the Apple store will not charge you for minor repairs, but Authorized Service providers may charge a small fee.

  • DVD won't eject, I think my 3yr old put one in upside down

I have tried everything to get DVD out.  When I turn on and hold down the eject button you can tell its trying to eject but it doesn't want to come out.  I don't know if its a easy fix or if I have to take it in to a specialist.

Restart the computer and hold the trackpad down until disc is ejected.
If this does not help, take the computer to the Apple store.
    Best.

  • DVD won't eject after installation

I have just installed elements 11 and premier elements 11 and installation seemed to go OK.  After installation the DVD door won't open to retreive the DVD.  I have never had this happen before.  Any suggestions?

Restart the computer and remove the discs.

  • Blang DVD won't eject

While I was playing using VMWare Fusion I have inserted a blank DVD in the drive. I have a Macbook 1,3 running Leopard. I guess because playing with Fusion the DVD drive was not mounted either in Mac OS neither in Ubuntu (running inside VMWare Fusion). I cannot eject the DVD anymore. I have tried:
    - to press the trackpad button pressed while booting
    - reset the PRAM (Command - Option - P - R)
    - reset the PMU (remove the power cord and the battery and keep the power button on for 10s)
    - I have even tried to boot into single user mode (Command - S) and after performing:
    /sbin/mount -uw /
    /sbin/SystemStarter
it just hangs and could see the messages:
    IOATAController device bocking bus
and the prompt is not returned.
My Macbook boots but it takes a loooong... time to boot now.
The System Profiler shows the DVD drive as being OK.
What should I do to remove the drive? This is a blank DVD, I don't care to damage it, just I want to eject it somehow...
    Please help!
    Thanks
    Codrut

I don't know why, after resetting the PRAM, PMU several times I managed to eject the CD by pressing the trackpad (mouse) button. Now drutil can see the drive:

I guess I can close this thread.
