Backup on CD/DVD wont work. crashes when it tries to burn 1. DVD

i tried it several times, but it wont work. if i start itunes tells me that it needs 4 DVDs to backup the whole library. so i put in the first one. the process collects informations and then writes the first DVD. then the burning process starts but windows shows up a messege that iTunes occured an error and had to be shut down. no more explantations.
now i reinstalled my windows xp and itunes so that i have a new clean system. i copied the library from a external HD. i tried it again but still, the error comes.
i have about 3.600 songs in my library, no other stuff. i used a 16 x DVD+R disc for burning. i also burned other stuff with other tools on this type of DVD so it seems not to be a hardware problem.
please, that exporting to DVD thin is the only way to properly transport my library to my new iMac. copiyng it with an external HD wont work so this is the only thing i can do.

nobody? meanwhile i retried the process but this time i choose CDs instead of DVDs. it took me a bunch of CDs but at least it worked. BUT after reimport in the Mac iTunes all the coverpics from my own imported cd's where gone. why is that so!? downloaded songs' covers are still there.

I have had my mini mac for a while now its got 10.3.9 and I have always been able to play dvds on it all of a sudden the dvds wont play all except
for the simpsons movie and southpark arghh. any help would be appreciated

I guess you have already done the obvious and wiped the disks with a clean cloth. You could try a cleaning disk for removing dirt from the drive lenses.

Updated to mavericks dvd wont work nor a external dvd

updated to mavericks from leopard and dvd drive stopped working as well as external dvd drive . it dismounts the external dvd drive half way through the burn . tried a disc cleaner . any ideas ? have clean reinstalled mavericks from usb but toast and disc utility wont burn now

Ejecting the stuck disc can usually be done in one of the following ways:
1. Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the left mouse button until the disc ejects.
2. Press the Eject button on your keyboard.
3. Click on the Eject button in the menubar.
4. Press COMMAND-E.
5. Using the Terminal app:
Open the Terminal application in your Utilities folder. At the prompt enter or paste the following
drutil eject
or in case you have an external and internal disc drive:
drutil eject internal
drutil eject external
or
drutil eject -drive internal
drutil eject -drive external
If this fails then try this:
Boot the computer into single-user mode. At the prompt enter the same Terminal command as used above.
To restart the computer enter "reboot" at the prompt without quotes.

DVD wont work - please advise?

I am trying to burn a DVD video with AC3 surround sound using DVD Studio Pro 3.
I have exported my individual stems from Pro Tools HD, imported into A.Pack and have a AC3 fie.
I have a quicktime movie.
I have created a new project, imported my video and audio as assets and everything works fine.
As I am wanting this to play without a menu, I have followed Apples online document to set up parameters as follows: -

I have tested my DVD in simulator and it works fine.
I have built and formatted my DVD as standard DVD.
Prefs as follows: -
Aspect ratio 4:3
video standard : - pal
Encode mode : - on build
I am then given my video and audio TS files.
I have tested my Video_TS files in DVD player on the mac and that works fine.
When I burn my DVD the mac ejects it when done.
I try to load the DVD to test in macs DVD player and the DVD doesnt come up on the desktop.
I try to load the DVD in the external DVD player and it cannot recognise the disk.
I have followed every help file I can find and simulator and DVD player show no problems.
Please can anyone help?

You didn't mention your burning workflow, but most probably there is your mistake.
I think the best is creating a Disc Image from your DVDSP project and then burn it using Toast or Disk Utility. Check this * Creating Disc Image in DVDSP Tutorial *.

Burned a movie to DVD from Macbook, but dvd wont work on DVD player

how come does this message saying, this type of disc cannot play on a DVD player?, but it still works on the computer

Is your DVD player capable of playing DVDR? If it is then perhaps its just the way the file was burned. If you have a different DVD try using that and see if it plays. If that doesn't work then either your DVD player doesn't play DVDR or your settings are wrong.

I am trying to use my disc drive but nothing. I can put a cd in but thats it, it just turns for a bit then it spits it out. I have tryed everything
I even tryed the hardwear test cd but I cant boot up to it all it does is spit it out???

You might want to try booting in to the startup manager (by holding down Option at start up, but after the startup chime) and see if it will take your disc from there. If that doesn't work... you can try resetting the firmware by booting in to Open Firmware (hold down Apple, Option, letter O, letter F at startup) and then at the prompt type in "reset-nvram" press return, next line type "reset-all" press return and your computer will restart at which point you can try the disc again. Hope this is helpful.
*when booted in to open firmware don't include the quotes, they were just there to clarify what to type.

Startup from Installation DVD wont work

I am trying to start up from my OS X Tiger Installation DVD, inserting the disc, restarting the computer, while holding C down on the keyboard, but it is continually starting up in regular mode. How can I get this to work, as I need to repair my disk volume in disk utility, and must startup from install disc somehow...

Make sure the installation disk you are using is either the disc which shipped with your Mac or a newer retail version. The disc which shipped with your Mac has your Mac's model name on it. The disc which is retail is either labeled * or * Older retail discs, and discs which came with other Macs will not boot your Mac.

Can I install the online version rather than using my dvd? it successfully installed (up to a point) that way, it just wont accept my serial number for some reason. my dvd isnt working properly.

If it gets far enough to reject your serial number, it won't help to download it. It must have installed ok.
What is the message you get (DON'T tell us the serial number!!)?
Does it mention a "qualifying product" by any chance?

Take a look at this page for trouleshooting your cd/dvd drive not working. About those other programs - do they freeze every time you use them? Do any other programs freeze, or just the audio/video stuff?

Installed Windows 8.1 on my HP Pavillion g7 & DVD player wont work

Hi All , I Installed Windows 8.1 on my HP Pavillion g7 and now my DVD player wont work for some reason, Any thoughts? I tried troubleshooting and it detects that there is a problem with the driverfor USB-IF xHCI USB Host Controller.

Director 11 Vista DVD Audio wont work

I'm just migrating an old hybrid DVD project from Director MX
2004 to Director 11 and have discovered that the sound in Vista
wont work but only for the DVD playback, wav playback works fine,
the strangest thing is while director is playing the DVD movie, i
can't click on the sound mixer in Vista.
I'm no director expert but it seems more like a bug than
something wrong with the lingo script on the volume control. I've
updated my audio drivers, turned off all the output devices except
for the stereo headphone jack. Even starting a new clean project
and trying dvd playback the audio doesn't work. Has anyone else
encountered something like this?

My Optiarc DVD RW AD-7581S wont work on Pavillion laptop with windows 8. What do I need to do.

I Installed windows 8 and DVD stopped working as a player. Am now completely goofed as I tried a backup recovery disc to get back to before win 8 and all that did was wipe my drive and leave windows 8 bare!
Any ideas on how to get the DVD drivers to work on win 8 when they worked fine on win 7.
If I buy a new DVD writer etc will that work or is it going to be a mother board related problem.
Windows 8 told me that the machine was compatable but it lied and Im in mess now.

There probably isn't a problem with your DVD or W8.
W8 unlike W7, does not come with the codecs required to play DVD's.
You can download DVD playing software (I use the k-lite codec pack), or you will need to install other DVD playing software for your PC.
If your notebook has dvd playing software for W7, it should also work on W8.
If not, you can try this software I found from an HP dv6 notebook for W8.

Cd drive wont work

hello guys my cd drive on my i mac wont work, it tries to rad the disk for 2 seconds and then spits it back out, it makes no difference if its a cd or a dvd, anyone have any ideas??

ive been experiencing the same thing. I searched the archives here to see if i could find anything similar and found only one answer that seemed to help. That ws to go to your applications. Click on disk utilities. Click on your hard drive in the left hand column and then click on verify repair. After its done shut down the computer. Then turn it back on and see if that helps with the problem. I seem to be able to have some success with this but i noticed that everytime i turn my computer off and turn it back on i have to go through the same steps again . Let me know if you do this and how it works for you . If its a permenant solution or like mine where its only temporary and you keep having to repeat the steps.

Keyboard and mouse wont work unless booted in safe mode.

So my keyboard and mouse wont work at all when i start up normally, so i coudnt even log on, then i tried safe mode and i was able to use the mouse and keyboard and log in, then when i loged in i got some messages:

Im pretty sure how i got this problem, i was using bootcamp and i got this program called MacDrive (bad Idea)and it corrupted my HD or something so i had to use disk warrior to fix it. I also used disk utility in safe mode but there were no errors it said.
and this is probably a hardware problem but i cant use DVD's anymore, my drive will only read CD's now, must be broken....
so ya, i dunno what to do exept get my drive fixed and to a backup and reinstall OS...

There are no many options which could solve this problem.
It can be a hardware problem or software related issue.
Can you use the internal keyboard within the BIOS?
Check this.
If this would not be possible, I assume the hardware is faulty.
Additionally I recommend testing the keyboard and touchpad using the factory settings.
Recover the notebook and check if the keyboard would functions. Otherwise you will need an helps from an notebook technician in order to replace the keyboard and touchpad
