DVD Writer PIONEER 115BB - Compatibility

Looking to install a DVD burner into my Mac.
A friend of mine is dumping an old PC which has a Pioneer DVD ROM 115BB in it.
I know the Pioneer 106 and the 111 runs in the mac
Will the Pioneer DVD ROM 115BB run on my machine please?
If so, what software is needed to run it please?
Thanks you guys!!
G4 Silver   Mac OS X (10.3)   Dual OS9 & OSX

Hi
I think the main difference is the read/write speeds.
The 106 writes CD-Rs, CD-RWs, DVD-Rs, DVD-RWs, DVD+Rs and DVD+RWs at 16x, 10x, 4x, 2x, 4x and 2.4x respectively.
The 111 writes them at 40x, 32x, 16x, 6x, 16x and 8x respectively. It also supports dual layer discs, DVD-R DL and DVD+R DL, both at 8x.
I've installed a 111D under OS X 10.4/Tiger and it works out of the box with no additional software needed.
Under earlier versions of OS X such as 10.3 though, which don't support such a wide range of third party drives, you may need Patch Burn in order for the drive to be recognised by the iApps (iTunes, iDVD etc):

  • Need to replace DVD writer - available options for 2010?

    Hi guys,
Usual problem, my old DVD writer Pioneer DVR 106D is starting to get choosy about what it reads. I've seen the 112D and 116D as recommended replacements and I've read a lot about installation. But these are old models now. It seems the 118L also works, though installers document some strange problems, and even that is being phased out.
I'm in the UK - what model or models should I buy to install in my G5 (OSX 10-5-8)? would like something predictable and proven to work!
    andy

    Hi-
    Welcome to Discussions!
A drive that meets your requirements of "predictable" (reliable) and "proven to work" is the Samsung SH-S series drive.
The drives get good reviews, and Mac users have no problems with the drives.
They are also readily available in the UK.

  • Pioneer DVD Writer Model DVR107D notification Internal hardware error

I have a power PC TigerOS 10.4.11 and I have an onboard Pioneer DVD writer model DVR107D.  I am having a problem with notification saying that there is an internal hardware error right at the end of the writing and verification doesn't occur.  I have looked for firmware update on Pioneer website, but cannot find for a Mac.  I wonder whether an update to apple software has caused this problem?  Is there any advice regarding this issue?

    Hi-
I doubt that a software update is the issue given the OS version that you are running.
It could be a laser issue, either due to age or dirt.
It may also be a media compatibility issue, in which a firmware update would help.
Use the tools on this page for the DVR-107:

  • How do I configure a Pioneer DVR-XD10 external dvd writer to my macbook pro laptop?

How do I configure a Pioneer DVR-XD10 external dvd writer to my macbook pro laptop?
I read online that you could use an external dvd writer on a macbook pro when the internal dvd writer died.
    Please help?
It shows power running through the external dvd writer when I plug in the two usb ends into the respective ports, but it doesn't recognize it when I try to write media to a DVD.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance!

If you have not already done so, your chances will really improve if you....
    1) Connect the printer to the USB port on the AirPort Extreme
    2) Download and install Bonjour Print Services for Windows on the PC

  • URGeN-External DVD writer compatability

I'm looking into buying an external DVD writer for my iBook G4 and I've found it hard to find one that says that it's MAC compatible. I've only found one and it was well out of my price range. However, I see tons of other USB 2.0 and Firewire writers out there that are within my price range. They speak of only windows and usually come with Nero software.
Does anyone know if those are capable of working with my MAC's OSX?
I just figure this is worth asking since most of the time the OS can pick up peripherals through the firewire and usb ports.

Look, at Lacie, Maxtor, IOmega, all 3 of these offer top of the line CD/DVD External Firewire Burners.
If by chance you find one that offers Toast 7 or Popcorn these will be for Mac OSX. Nero Software is PC Based. Don

  • New DVD writer on Satellite M40-193 uses 100% CPU

    Hello anyone,
recently I have replaced my DVD-writer with a new one. My laptop is a Satellite M40-193 (PSM40E-06M026IT) and the original drive is a Mat****a UJ-831B. I have replaced it with a Sony-Nec Optiarc AD-7633A because I like the slot-in feature and the Labelflash feature.
Unfortunately it makes me a problem. It will use 100% CPU every time I use it. I cannot figure out the problem. Is there anyone who can help me? It is a software problem or hardware?
    Thank you.

After six days this is the only help I can get on this forum: "...this optical disc drive is compatible with your notebook model?".
The ATA communication bus is a standard.
The exsistence of a compatibility list does not means that ONLY those drives present in the list can work with the relative notebook.
Those drives are the ones tested and the ones that Toshiba says: "this drive surelly work" but not says "this is the only drive that work".
In fact I have RESOLVED the question with a little software I have found on another forum and now my drive works perfectly and I have a newer and more featured drive than those in the list.
    Thank you Mike

  • Which DVD writer for 12" iBook?

    Hi,
I'm after a DVD writer to use with my iBook G4 1.33Ghz 12". Can anyone recommend any brands that work particuarly well with an iBook?
At the moment I am leaning towards either a LaCie external writer or a Pioneer or NEC internal unit, placed inside a Firewire enclosure. Are these good choices?
Also, I've noticed that newer DVD writers have a SATA rather than ATAPI interface - will either work with my iBook?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Fungolo, Welcome to the discussion area!
A SATA drive will not work internally on the iBook.
If you get an external FireWire enclosure for a SATA drive, it will work with your iBook.
ATAPI is just another termo for ATA.

  • Need replacement DVD writer for M70-191 .

My DVD writer on my M70-191 (a Ma****a UJ-8415) is refusing to recognise most CD's and fails when trying to burn DVD's, with various errors. Tried different types and different burning software. Reinstalled drivers, cleaned drive. No luck.
So, I'm looking for a new drive .. where can I buy a suitable replacement?

    Hello Steve
First of all I think you should buy the same drive. Doing this you will avoid eventually compatibility problems. I have Satellite M70 too and the optical disc drive is really good one.
I recommend you to use Google and you will find many online shops where you can order new ODD.

  • HP DVD Writer 740b not recognizing DVDs

My 740b will not recognize DVDs. I have no problems with CDs but any DVD I put in the tray isn't recognized. I initially thought the problem was with the DVD+R I was using but I also have a Slimline s3132w with a DVD writer installed and it burned and read the same discs with no problems. I tried several commercal DVDs (movies) and when I try to play them I get a no disc in drive error. I also have a Lite-On DVD SOHD-16P9S DVD ROM on the same system and have no problems what so ever playing the same discs. I have tried replacing the ATA data cables post attempting the trouble shooting tips given on the support web page. I have upgraded the firmware hoping this might alleviate the problem with no success. As I stated before this problem is only with DVDs, the drive has no problems what so ever with CDs. I have a feeling the problem my be with my updating to Windows XP SP3. I had done so before but removed it because my Linksys Wireless Adapter(PCI) wouldn't function with it installed. That problem has been repaired and now this. The system the drive is installed in is as follows:
     HP a1203w
                      cpu: Athlon 64 3800+ @ 2.2ghz
video: ATI 9550 w/256mb video memory
audio: Sound Blaster Audigy Z2S Platinum
             boot drive: Seagate ST340014A 40GB
    secondary drive: Seagate ST3250620A 250GB

OK chalk me up too to the list of users whose HP DVD Writer 740b cannot "see" blank DVD's and CD's.
Full marks to HP in that I am still smoothly running a Pavilion Media Centre PC EG211AA-ABG m7288a. I find the older plug compatablity useful and have beefed up RAM making it still a powerful "retro" media machine after all these years.....
However after a power failure caused a disk error that trashed my Windows XP and while it restored (as in full reset) like a trooper I took the opportunity to do a clean upgrade to Windows 7 (64bit) seeing as XP is no longer supported. And yes my HP DVD Writer 740b cannot detect blank DVD's and CD's although it can read those with content. It seems to be acting more like a CD ROM drive than a Read Write drive.
I have tried ALL the suggested fixes to no avail and yes my "shell detection" service is operational and on automatic.
But here's the rub as it were. My HP Support Assistant assures me that I have a HP DVD Writer 740b installed and running ED24 firmware. So I was hopeful when I found that there was an HP upgrade from the ED24 firmware (sp26595.exe - DVD-RW 16X HP DVD Writer 740b Drive Firmware Update ). HOWEVER even if I run it in XP compatable mode it returns the message that I do NOT have a HP DVD Writer 740b installed and therefore no upgrade is required.
The label on the front of the drive is "LightScribe DVD +/- Writer / CD-Writer".
Is the HP Assistant wrong in identifying it as an HP DVD Writer 740b? Also could the drive be getting confused thinking a blank disc is a lightscribe disc in upsidedown ready for printing? I have to try and find a way to reload the LabelPrint software (have the LSS) that was lost when I upgraded to Windows 7. Probably can't retrieve it from the old XP recovery disk.
Any NEW thoughts (especially as to why firmware upgrade does not see the drive) most wrlcome as apart from this one little thing the Pavilion is performing like a trooper and is an excellent advertisement for the durability of HP products (which is why we brought 3 HP laptops as well.
    Hopeful thanks in advance.

  • DVD Writer not available under Limited User account

    Hi
In one of our computers, with Encore CS3 installed and a Pioneer DVD Writer (with functional ASPI layer), I have the following problem :
If I try to export a project to DVD burning, the writer is not available, but if I modify the account of the user to set it as an administrator, the writer appears on the DVD Export window.
    Can you help me ?

I installed Nero Burning Rights to give rights to Everyone and changed writer drive letter to first available letter (writer + reader on the same computer) and it works !

  • Replacing the internal DVD reader with a DVD Writer

Hey there, I have a G4 mac tower at home. I want to replace the DVD reader currently intalled with an internal DVD writer. Can I just go to Best Buy and purchase any internal DVD writer or is there something specific I need to look for?
    Thanks

Hey there, I have a G4 mac tower at home. I want to
replace the DVD reader currently intalled with an
internal DVD writer. Can I just go to Best Buy and
purchase any internal DVD writer or is there

I would check the drive compatibility database at xlr8yourmac.com
some brand/model drives will not work as boot devices, and or will not play nice with iDVD.
However, it is quite likely that any Pioneeer drive will work w/o issue.

  • DVD +-RW Pioneer 106 not recognized

First of all sorry about my English.
I have a Mega 865 who have being working perfectly for 5 months but suddenly one day when I start the pc mode the BIOS told me that something had changed in my system (or something like that) I had to save changes in the BIOS to exit it. After that the PC boots without problems but my DVD+-RW Pioneer 106 disappear. It is not recognized by the BIOS. I have try it in another PC and it works. I have checked the power cable and it works. I have checked cables and everything seems OK. HI-FI mode is not working now (it worked before), the display says searching but I can not even open the tray. Please ¿can anybody help me?

Thanks for your quick answer. I have left the MSI mega for more than 5 hours without power supply  because I disconnect the DVD writer to try it in another PC and after that (when I reconnect the writer) BIOS still not recognize the DVD writer. I  suppose I will try with another writer.

  • My DVD writer's drive on my Pavillion DV6000 stopped functioning. It's listed on My computer. Help?

    Hi,
The dvd writer is listed in My Computer (Vista Home premium) but it does not work. Pushing the eject button only flashes but nothing happens. The eject function from anywhere in vista does not work. I get an I/O error. Any ideas?

    Thank you!
I wouldn't waste the speed of firewire on only a DVD/CD Reader (ie a DVD/CD ROM) - if that's what you're talking about. I would say that it would be the Recorder/Burner and recording software that would benefit the most from the speed increase, since it's doing the hardest work.
Unless it was that you wanted to put the DVD/CD ROM (the reader) inside the Mac and you wanted to use the other burner elsewhere (then putting the Pioneer in the now vacant FW case). If not, then you already have two good drives, why waste money on duplicating what you already have. All an external Firewire anything is is an external firewire case with a drive of some sort inside it (whether hard drive or dvd/cd, etc), and I've often found that the quality of the internal drives of many external cases leave a lot to be desired. And you often pay more for a completed setup like that. I prefer to put together my own - I usually save money and as noted before, get much better quality overall. So just get yourself a good Firewire 5.25" case (the LaCie ones for example are beautiful and fast - but there are others). Just make sure that it can handle the DVD aspect though, some of the older FW cases can't. I'd recommend looking thru these discussions for other posts on this topic (chipset speeds too) - there has already been a lot of good input on this subject.
But whatever you decide, I'd definitely recommend having the burner in the firewire case.

The DVD writer works then intermittently and sometimes doesnt even respond in explorer.
Anyone got any ideas on why this is?
