Please identify your notebook/pc .
Look at the base/rear/side of the notebook/pc at the barcoded sticker.
Post item number 2 as seen on the following example of an HP notebook's barcoded sticker. The barcode on your HP product may be slightly different in appearance, but will still have the important information needed for us to help you.
###Do not post the serial number of your product as it is personal information.###
Post the installed operating system version (state whether it is 32 or 64-bit ) and the CPU as an AMD or Intel product
Not posting all of the information as requested will delay our responses and slow troubleshooting of the issue that led you to author a thread.
Is your notebook/PC still within its warranty period?

• K8 Neo 4 Plaltinum sli, dvd writer problems

Hello people,
first of all, this is my rig:
Venice 3200+ @ 2500 (250x10 HT 4x)
Msi k8 neo 4 platinum sli
Leadtek PX-6600GT
2x maxtor 80GB diamond max 10 IDE
LG GSA-H22N dvd writer
2x 512MB twinmos 2,5 3 3 7 @ 415Mhz
Some time ago i put my hard drives in raid 0 and found that my old dvd-writer (lg GSA-4167B) became unusable, the system locked up randomly for ~20 seconds while writing/reading for more than 2-3 minutes. I found that nvraid does this with some dvd-writers(even though it's not activated on that device), so i deactivated nvraid, and changed my dvd-writer(i accidentally dropped the old one down some stairs  :(), now it does the same thing, nvraid disabled, same settings like it was before, when it worked fine.
If anybody has an idea on how i can get over this .... please shout, i'm sick of waiting 20-25 mins to burn a 75% filled dvd at 8x and not be able to do anything alse at the same time

I have had this issue on both my platinum and my F boards. The only solution i have found is to  take the dvd ribbon, using one ribbon per dvd rom. I put the master end nto the mobo and what used to be the mobo end into the dvd rom.
Let us know if this takes care of your problem.
It seems really odd, but give it a try.
EDIT: doh i didnt see the ide part... sry

• DR4-A DVD Writer Problems

I've just installed my new DR4-A DVD writer into my PC.
Everything seemed to be fine.  Windows XP (SP1) detected the drive and installed the default Windows drivers (there don't seem to be any specifically provided by MSI for the drive).
Over the last couple of days I've been burning CD-Rs with the drive and the supplied Nero software without any problems.  Today, I went out and bout two packs of Sony 5DMR47A DVD -R disks.  When I insert one of these disks into the drive the drive doesn't recognise them and in Windows Explorer and Nero it says there isn't any disc inserted.  I've tried all the DVDs in both packs and get the same problem every time.  Or is there an incompatibility between these type of DVDs and the drive?
Any help would be really appreciated.
Thanks.

Hi.
Thanks for that.  I'd already upgraded my software that was supplied with the DVD drive to the latest build of version 5.5.
On another note, I went and bought some TDK DVD-RW Disks today, and they worked fine.  So could it be an incompatibility between the drive and that particular make of Sony DVD -Rs?

• M30-X series - DVD writer problem

Hello,
My DVD-RW drive perfectly writes CDs (CD-R and CD-RW). Today first time I tried using DVD RW disc and it didnt work. I am using Nero Express 6. I added files to the writing window and clicked Next. Then normally the BURN button must appear active as in the case of CD writing. I waited and it doesnt appear active.
I was thinking may be I dont have DVD writing driver or something. I formatted the laptop once and so far the Device Manager shows everything ok, in CD-DVD it TOSHIBA DVD-ROM SD-R6112. Does it have to show also some kind of DVD-Writer or something?
Can somebody help me out with this?

at the moment i'm guessing two things
either your have bought the wrong media for your drive, meaning that you have bought a DVD+R or DVD+RW, while your drive only supports DVD-R and DVD-RW.
Notice the difference between + and -. - is the older standard and the most compatible with DVD players etc. the + standard is quite more recent than the -, and it supports more functions compared to the -.
or
in Nero there is a drop down menu where you can choose which recorder to use, although there is one drive on your laptop, they are listed as two seperate ones and they have the same drive number i.e. E: (at least in mine its like that, but mine has the supermultidrive by matsu****a). Click on that menu to choose the DVD writer instead of the CD-R/RW drive.

• K7n2 Delta ILSR - DVD writer problem

Hi
My system is a AMD athlon 2600, 1Gb Crucial DDR 400 RAM, Tyan tacheon 9600 pro and a pioneer A106 DVD writer.
I have connected IDE1 to the hard drive and IDE 2 to the Pioneer DVD writer.
When
i) IDE 2 (DVD) is NOT connected  the system boots up very quickly.
ii) IDE 2 is connected , the sytems start up time is a lot slower.
The DVD writer works then intermittently and sometimes doesnt even respond in explorer.
Anyone got any ideas on why this is?
Thanks
Shaz

got it jumpered right
using a modern 80 wire ide lead blue end in the board, not the older 40 wire ones

• DVD Write problem

I have previously burned DVD's on my Computer with no problem. Today I tried to burn a DVD and I've gone through 5 DVD and keep getting the same error when the disc is about 60% done burning. This is what console shows:
Finder: Burn started, Tue Feb 14 22:33:53 2006
Finder: Burning to DVD-R media with DAO strategy in MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-815 D0CB via ATAPI.
Finder: Requested burn speed was 1x, actual burn speed is 1x.
Finder: Burn underrun protection is supported, and enabled.
Finder: Burn failed, Tue Feb 14 22:59:20 2006
Finder: Burn sense: 4/03/00 Hardware Error, Peripheral device write fault
Finder: Burn error: 0x80020022 The device failed to respond properly, unable to recover or retry.
I also noticed a strange scratchy noise while burning it does not do it any other time even when reading other discs. Is this a hardware problem? Is there a DVD drive replacement that will fit that I can buy third party and install myself?

I just wanted to add that I tried CD burning and it works fine. No funny noises, no problem. I reset the PMU and tried DVD burning again. Still doesn't work. Still makes a funny noise while writing data to the disc.

• HP Dvd Writer Problem

Sir/madam good day
Please help me i have a problem in my dvdrw drive when i insert a blank dvd its shows 1.31gb of 1.31gb instead of 4.7gb. What can i do. How can i fix this issue?
This question was solved.
View Solution.

Respect to kinglord55
i contacted Princo technical engineer and i described the problem to him and provide him with my laptop model and other info , so he found the clue ... their message to me is this :
"We have studied your problem and summarized from our end as follows:
* Our Slim DVD 24X is very thin, so that your laptop DVD-RW Writer is recognizing our Slim DVD as mini DVD-R (8 cm with 1.5GB).
* This could be happen because of either the DVD-RW writer firmware mismatch or old model DVD-RW writers.
DELL N5010 is little bit old model, we have tested with DELL N5110 and most of the laptop/desktop model DVD-RW writers and it gives excellent performance. So already said some model Computer PC and other laptops it is working with 4.7GB capacity. It is the same reason.
We recommend you to contact your Laptop Vendor to upgrade the firmware of your DVD-RW writer or try to use new model Writers. DELL always have their latest firmware."
so i think that my DVD-RW is old like he said and will never recognize the slim DVD-R as i upgraded its firmware but nothing happens .
add that i used another brand of discs that are not slim and it gives me the full capacity 4.7GB without any problem and that make sense and confirms the technical engineer's concept .

• Satellite C series CD/DVD writer problem

If I try to copy Photos from my laptop to a CD it seems to go through the process then gives a message " verification failed " . Same happens with a word file. It also seems a bit hit and miss what happens when I try to start copying.

my last laptop (earlier version ) had no difficulties
its no matter what notebook you have.
Different notebooks are equipped with different optical disk drives…
In most cases the copy problems appear due to compatibility issues between the ODD and the medium.
Also there are big differences between the CD / DVD manufacturers…
So probably the same DVD-RW or other medium from another manufacturer (TDK, Verbatim???) would work properly…
You have to test it…

• COMBO DVD WRITER PROBLEM

Hi there,
The DVD combo drive in my Satellite laptop has stopped funtioning. I am currently running XP.
The DVD drive, once you put a CD/DVD in it, flashes for a few times and then stays with its light on. It seems that it is trying to read the medium but then it stays idle.
If you just open and close the drive then in blinks and then the light comes off.
Any ideas what is wrong with it??
Thanks in advance,
Leon

• Portege A100 - problems recognising a new DVD writer

Hi,
I am attempting to replace the Panasonic/Matsu****a UJDA750 combo drive with a LiteOn SOSW-852S DVD writer. The LiteOn is CSEL, and is not recognized by the Portege A100. I've tried changing it to Master/Slave/CSEL and Inverse CSEL using E2MS_WIN_SOSW-852S.exe (in an Acer Travelmate 220, which sees every configuration), but the Portege A100 still doesn't recognize the LiteOn.
I ran IDEDIAG using a WinME boot CD, and the Matsu****a Combo drive in the Portege reports as Secondary Master. So, I tried flashing the LiteOn drive (using the Acer Travelmate as the platform) with MTKFlash version 183c using the command ??mtkflash 3 w /b PRS9.bin" (using the original backed-up firmware), "3" to change the drive to Secondary Master. I ran into problems here - the flash appeared to lock up. The drive is still ok, however. I flashed it back to the original CSEL ok using the E2MS program in the Acer.
I haven't tried bridging pins 45 to 47 on the LiteOn - I figured that was maybe a last resort.
So - can you help with the correct configuration for a CD/DVD drive in the Portege A100? There's a bunch of different ones - Primary/Secondary/Tertiary/Quarternary Master/Slave, CSEL and Inverse CSEL. The Portege A100 "sees" the Matsu****a CDROM model CR-176_B from the Acer.
Or - can you recommend a suitable DVD burner for this laptop?

I successfully changed the SOSW-852S Lite-On to suit the Portege A100 by bridging terminals 45 & 47 at the IDE socket on the Lite-On.
I tried it first with a piece of foil externally to see if it worked, then used a fine soldering iron (and a magnifying glass) to bridge said terminals internally.
From what I can find out, this hard wires the Lite-On to Master.
I was also able to flash the Lite-On firmware to different configurations by using MTKFlash and E2MS_WIN_SOSW-852S.exe, i.e. Master/Slave/CSEL/Inverse CSEL. This didn't make a difference to the Portege A100.
Anyway, it works. Trying to find the correct configuration for a new CD/DVDROM to a laptop is like pulling teeth.
This subject has been covered extensively elsewhere.

• HP DVD Writer 1170d DH22 180 PROBLEMS

I purchased a HP DVD Writer 1170d DH22 180 lightscribe in Sept.
It installed just fine and burns cd, dvd and dvd DL disks just fine. The problem I have is getting it to see a DL lightscribe disk so I can right to it.
The disks I bought are DVD+R DL VERBATIM 8X LIGHTSCRIBE. The lightscribe part worked just fine but it says on a BLANK DISK and I mean all the ones I bought that the disks are full so I cant write to it. I thought maybe because I lightscribed one first to try it out maybe I screwed up the write side of the disk so I put in a new one with nothing on it and same thing.
Operating system is:
Microsoft windows XP home edition
Service pack three
Anybody got any help on this???
Thanks

I'm having very similar problems.  I have Vista Ultimate 64 installed on a new build, and I bought this drive specifically because of its lightscribe capability.  I am using HP brand lightscribe media.  My first disc label burned just fine, and since the drive will not detect media.  I have updated the LS system software, have tried to get a newer driver (but the 2006 version seems to be it) and I'm starting to think I made a mistake shopping with HP yet again.  I am having this problem in any labeler, whether LS Simple Labeler, Nero, or any other.  I've tried like 4.  I"ve uninstalled and reinstalled everything, I even tried plugging this drive into a different SATA port on my motherboard, and nothing seems to work.  Is this product just defective?

• Problems with DVD writer

I recently built a new machine with a P965 Platinum MB.  I put in a Optiarc AD7170 DVD writer.  Even though I was able to install windows XP with it, I immediately had problems once windows XP was up and running.  The MSI utility CD wouldn't run.  Windows explorer would hang up.  I would also get some fatal windows errors.  I replaced the DVD writer with a CD writer that I had laying around and everything was fine.
I put the DVD writer in my older machine and it works fine.  I also had a friend try it in his and everything was OK.
I couldn't find anything on the web about this particular brand.  There was some mentions in this forum about JMicron.  Could there be some incompatibility with the writer and the motherboard or the JMicron controller?

I have a similar but actually quite different problem.  My p965platinum's BIOS won't even show my IDE drives,  sometimes,  well most of the time..

Can't see a correlation but Boot.ini running in PAE mode.
Could there be something wrong with the board or the BIOS?
Twice I have done a hard shutdown and it has showed up.  But when I restart or shut it down for the night It won't show when it starts back up??   System Restore does nothing.
On other old BIOS' I could hit a key to "detect" drives,  but this BIOS has no option for that.  Everything it "Auto".

• Problems booting from external DVD writer.

I have used an Optibay to put a second HD in my MBP 3,1 2.2 GHz in place of the original burner.
I am using a Freecom Mobile DVD LS Pro instead of the internal.
The Freecom will boot the original install disk, Snow Leopard and Leopard disks, and a Techtool Pro disk.
But it won't boot any Diskwarrior disks, or any Paragon Rescue disks, or the EFI Windows 7 disk I made and used to install Windows 7 while the internal DVD writer was still fitted.
All the disks boot my Mac Pro fine, so the problem is not the actual disks.
I have tried with the Freecom connected both USB and Firewire.
I will probably put the original burner back, but before doing so, I wanted to ask if there are any other explanations, or anything I could do to make these disks boot?
If there is a different brand of external known to boot better, I would consider getting it.
Thanks for any input.

I put the original burner back in, and now the other disks are booting OK!
