DVDs never burn!

Hey all,
I have been having this problem for weeks now, where I go to burn a DVD, leave, come back the next day and it still shows as "multiplexing and burning". I hit cancel to no avail...I end up having to force quit...and even though iDVD says it was burning, the DVD is still blank after all this (so no burning took place).
I have already made several DVDs doing the exact same procedure, and in the past, never had this problem (they usually burn in about 45min). All of my iDVD projects are created from iMovie, but even when I create an idvd project from scratch and import the movie I still get the same result. I tried switching between "best performance" and "best quality"...again no result.
I'm running version 4.0.1 with iMovie 4.0.1.
If I can't get it to work, would it be worth it to upgrade to the latest version?
Anybody else run into this? I'm backed up with work now because of this, so if anyone has any advice it is greatly appreciated!
2 ghz G5   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

...one had about 7GB free on the start-up drive...
that is definately not enough to let iDVD do its job (even MacOsX shoudl have more space on drive…); with so little space, your app will crash/freeze…
...These folders are sometimes on the start-up drive, sometimes on a secondary internal drive....
my, allways successfully workflow:
* editing in iM, project is on external drive…
* project finished; transferring project onto internal drive, "Movies"
* launch iDVD, choose project, burn…
problem with files stored here&there: iDVD (and iM) needs to "collect" all files…- that has to be done "on time", means, if e.g. an ext. drive falls to sleep-mode, that millisecond of getting it awake can make iDVD freeze... secondary: ext. drives need to beo formatted correctly for use with video! (MacOsX Extended…); any usb2 connection could work, but isn't as reliable as firewire…
you did export from within iM as "QT Full Quality"? or how…?
my line "iDVD expect a Movie folder" just means, some clever ones "clean-up" their drives and erase this folder… No Movies on start-up drive => no work of iDVD… you don't have to store your projects there, but, my experience, it does work this way…
you did try to create an image in iDVD and burn that later with Toast (sorry, got lost in this thread, too many thread-jackers here.....)?

Hello - I used a Sony DVD to burn 350 songs from my iTunes library to share with a friend. When I put the DVD into my friend's computer to rip those 350 songs, the 'import songs' button never appeared in the lower right hand corner of iTunes. Anybody know what's preventing me from ripping what's on the DVD?

The import command only works with audio CDs. So if you burned the files in mp3 format, try instead using the "File > Add file to library" or "File > Add folder to library" commands.

  • Dvd movie burning

Can't burn a simple regular lengh movie (less than 120 mins long) in a dvd even if Im using a disc with enough capacity
always have to split a regular movie file , for example if it last 90 mins the movie and try to burn it on the 120 mins DVD disc I can't do it all in a single disc because not matter what application I using to burn the video file on DVD it always says I the file is too long for the capacity of the disc ... I used to be able to burn movies of any lengh in my other PC s but ever since I try to record a DVD for the first time on this PC Pavilion Slimline s5200y I always have to split the file and burn 2 discs .. why ?
    thanks

    Jordy, welcome to the forum.
I suggest trying CDBurnerXP.  I have used it for several years.  I have never burned a movie with it, but I have burned numerous operating system ISO's.  It is a great program and it is FREE.  If you try it, please let us know if it works or not.

  • I made an iMovie from iPhoto pictures that both look GREAT.  Watching the DVD i burned on a Playstation2 makes the pics look fuzzy. Why? how can i fix this?

I made an iMovie from iPhoto pictures that both look GREAT.  Watching the DVD i burned on a Playstation2 makes the pics look fuzzy. Why? how can i fix this?
    MPR

When you watch on your Mac, it is at or near HD 1920x1080 pixels (about 2 megapixels), depending on the resolution of your screen. Most photos today are 5 megapixels or greater, depending on your camera, but anything over 2 megapixels must be reduced when put in a video.
When you create a DVD, you must further reduce it to 640x480, standard definition. This is about 0.3 megapixels. iDVD will do this for you.
You can fix by creating an HD movie in iMovie. You can Share this using Share/Export Using QuickTime to an MP4 container using the h.264 codec. You can then put this movie on your PS3 using a USB thumb drive.
That should give you good resolution.
(NEVER MIND, YOU SAID PS2 not PS3, my apologies)

  • Help, i cant burn dvds. I can watch a dvd or burn a cd but not a dvd

I have an intel 17 inch imac and a matshita dvd-r uj-85j. when I go to burn a dvd I get a “Untitled DVD” can’t be burned because the disc is read-only and can’t be modified (error code 0x80020042). But that is BS. Can you please help me?

Sorry if this is obvious, but reasons why the DVD might not burn include:
    1. The DVD burning speed is at the maximum speed of the drive.
    2. The DVD is of low quality. Never burn discs from anything other than Ritek, Taiyo, or Verbatim. Don't apply sticky labels to the DVD, and don't use markers. Buy DVDs that are stored in jewelcases, not spindles. Follow the standards set here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2446
These issues are all platform independent.
    3. The DVD was already burnt before (multi-session DVDs as far as I know are only possible for data DVDs, not movie DVDs, though double sided DVDs allow a burn on each side).
    4. The capacity of the burn file is at the maximum of the capacity of the disk (try a smaller capacity).
    5. The burning software is old. Make sure the version you are using is tested with your operating system version.

  • How do I verify a DVD after burn?

How do I verify a DVD after burn? I know it can be done right after the burn, but this has been burned long ago. How is it done? I need to know it will play in a DVD player all the way through. I have several DVds and dont want to watch them all...
    Thanks

Just FYI, when I first started burning DVD disks, I always did the burn verification process after the burn. It took a long time, and I wasn't sure what it was really doing. I posted a question to one of the early iDVD users here, like Leonart , Len Goff, who said he never verified and all his DVDs burned fine. So, I stopped doing it and have not had any burn failures.
For your old DVDs, follow Leonart's excellent recommendation.

  • DVD Multi-Burner

I have never used the DVD multi-burner in my T61p to store or backup data on a DVD. Was a utility program or software provided with the pc that does this? The device does not seem to recognize a new DVD-R disk when I put it in the drive. Did basic software to utilize this device come with the machine that I may not recognize or may not have installed? If so, what is it called and can it be downloaded from the support site? I must be missing something obvious. Thanks for any help.

  • DVD's burning low contrast

Why are my DVD's burning in low contrast (with a lifted pedestal/black level)?
The contrast is higher when viewing the movie on Quick time and iDVD player.
    Any thoughts? Drive? DVD's?
    I'm using Maxell printable DVD's.

That indicates a conflict or corruption in the original account. To resolve that is laborious and time-consuming. While logged into the newly created admin account, delete the bad account, selecting the save data option, recreate the bad account using the same username/password combo, log out and back into the recreated original account. If the problem's solved, open the saved data dmg file in /Users/Deleted Users/, open the /Library/Preferences/ folder from the saved data, open the current /Users/restored account/Library/Preferences/ folder, and slowly copy plist files from the saved data folder to the current one that don't exist in it. Log out and back in to ensure there's no conflict and things still work correctly.

  • Question about choosing an external dvd/cd burner

The burning speed listed in my iTunes preferences goes up to 24x, then "Maximum Pssible". I am thinking of purchasing a LaCie DVD/CD burner that has write(48x)/rewrite(32x)/read(40x). When using with my iMac does this mean that I can burn at 48x with the iTunes burning preferences set to Maximum or does the maximum burning capabilities with my iMac top out at 24x?
Also, the internal burner device (a Matshita model) seems to have something called buffer protection. Can anyone explain what buffer protection is and is a mandatory consideration when using second, external player/burners?
    Thanks for any help.

The 24X currently in iTunes is reflecting the speed that is capable of the internal burner in your iMac.
Also, the internal burner device (a Matshita model) seems to have something called buffer protection. Can anyone explain what buffer protection is and is a mandatory consideration when using second, external player/burners?
This is to ensure that your burner does not run out of data while it is burning. If the burner runs out of data, the burn will fail.

  • DVD-R burn error "medium write error"

Just received a refurbished iMac today. Doing a basic Disc Copy from Disk Utility and burn one disc OK. The second disc ejects half way through burn and "medium write error" pops up. All the disc I pull out are blazing hot as well. I don't know if this has anything to do with it.
I am trying another burn now. Has anybody seen this error or had DVD-R burning issues?
    Thanks,
    Adam

I saw this using Toast 9 -- turned out I had turned on the DVD-DL support by accident and I didn't have a DL DVD drive.

  • Logitech external USB DVD reader/burner model LDR-PMD8U2LBK not recognized.

Got a external USB DVD reader/burner Logitech model LDR-PMD8U2LBK.
I plug the device, use the adapter but nothing happens. I tried to boot the computer with the driver plugged in, again, nothing. If I put a DVD in the driver, I hear the machine buffer but on the screen, nothing. Checked all the view options, everything is selected. It doesn't appear in the Disk Utility neither. Tried to open a DVD with VLC Player, to no avail. Checked on Logitech's site, there are no drivers for this driver. The seller told me that it should be compatible with my black macbook, I guess there is still a possibility that it is not...

You shouldn't need drivers for a USB or Firewire connected external device.

  • Dvd wont burn movie all the way

The dvd is 4.7 GB and the movie is 4.1 the dvd wont burn the whole movie it stops a little before the movie is over. HOw do we burn a long movie onto dvd?

What is the total playing time of your movie? iDVD 5 has a 120 minute limit, including menus, in the Best Quality setting or a 60 minute limit in the Best Performance setting. The size of the files is not the determining factor, just the playing time.

  • OSX DVD/CD Burner Error Code - HELP!

Hey everyone. I hope someone might be able to help me out with a problem I am having.
I just purchased a Plextor DVD/CD burner, and every time I put a blank in it, it gives me an error code (0x80020025). I thought it just might be my burner, but I tried to burn a disc with my buddy's Lacie, and had the same issue. The drive reads all discs fine, it just won't let me set it up to burn one.
Can anyone help, please?! Thank you all so much.

The drive is an external drive. It is a Plextor PX-740UF. I am running it with USB. Just to let you know, I had the same issue with my buddy's Lacie drive when I plugged it in.
The drive recognizes everything BUT unburned discs. When I put one in and I try to open it in Finder, or in iTunes, it gives me that error code.
I have also tried to do the force quit from Finder, and then re-launching, but this doesn't help either.
    Thanks for your help.
