Problems Moving Ripped DVD from Itunes to Ipod
I am having a problem transfering ripped DVD's from the Itunes Video folder to the actual Ipod. I thought one of the cool points of the Video Ipod was that you could play DVD's on it. I know I needed to use special software to achieve this since I researched it here. I am using Handbrake Lite since regular Handbrake look too daunting for me. I also used Isquint, since it was recommened here. I used both without changing anything on both of those progams other than click the go button. The DVD's will play in Itunes but it won't allow me to drag them to the Ipod. They are in the Video folder in Itunes. What in the wild, wild world of sports am I do'in wrong? I assume it's something stupid because the device is stellar. Hope someone out there can lend us a hand.
    Kind Regards,
    Julias

I am having a similar problem, and i cant contact ipod 2 ask 4 help - its not explainedo online:
my ipod will only upload video podcasts, no ordinary videos, except for one. they are all the same format (.MOV quicktime), and my i tunes has them all on it and plays them fine there, its just when i drag and drop or insert my videos onto my ipod any other way theydont get uploaded onto my ipod like everything else does, there seems no way that i can get my own videos onto it. only one video that isnt a podcast has ever uploaded, and its the same format as the others!
Any ideas or help would be apprichiated ( i cant spell:P)

  • How do I transfer legally Owned DVD's to my iPod Video?

I got a new iPod Video for christmas and I want to know how to take my own personal DVD's and transfer them to my iPod. I've read lots of threads about this subject but I haven't been successful in transfering anything. I downloaded Videora and DVDFab Decrypter but I don't know how to use them. I also found a lot of feedback saying that it would be illegal to transfer DVD's to the iPod and all I can say to that is, that's absolutely ridiculous. I bought the DVD's legally and should be able to transfer them. I paid for them and I don't plan on selling them to anyone else so explain to me what's illegal about it. I think that preventing us from transfering DVD's is just another way for Apple to make money. Eventually they'll come out with a Movie library in iTunes that you'll have to pay for, they already have music videos and tv shows. The other thing that really ****** me off is that in no way do they make clear that you're not allowed to transfer DVD's to your iPod. I think that a lot of people assumed along with me that you can transfer any movies you wanted to the iPod without a problem and the fact that you can't is a serious question in my mind as to whether or not Apple has committed fals advertising. Apple products are already priced much higher than they should be and I feel that this is just another way for them to make money. Sorry I needed to rant. Can anyone help me transfer my DVD's to my iPod? Or direct me towards some other 3rd party programs that might work easier?

"Why would anyone want to stare at that little screen for 2+ hours... I dont think apple false advertised at ALL...
Watching a movie would just kill your battery and waste a lot of space on your iPod which was first intended for music..
Pretty common sense if you ask me."
whowhat I think that a lot of people want to watch movies on the new iPod otherwise the software that transfer DVD's to iPod's wouldn't exist. And I'm sorry but what is the point of making an iPod video if you can't watch movies on it? so that you can watch a music video for 3 minutes? or your choice of 5 tv shows or however many there are? I don't think so. I just feel that if I pay $400 for a new iPod and I spend $20 on a movie, I shouldn't have to pay an extra $30 just so I can get the software that puts DVD's onto my iPod. Obviously if I'm at home I'm not going to sit and stare at the iPod but the whole point of an iPod is that you can have all your music and all your videos on the go when you're on a plane or a train or a long car ride. I just think it's bull **** the way apple does business making everything overpriced and all I'm saying is that when I bought the new iPod I expected that I would be able to put my own movies onto the iPod. And even though when you buy a DVD you're buying the right to view it, not the rights to it, all I would be doing is viewing it on my iPod, how is that wrong?

  • How Do You Get Your DVD's onto the iPod Video?

Is there a way to transfer my movies onto the iPod video? Will I need to buy the Quick Time Pro and then convert the video to mp4? Will that even work?
Anyone put their movies on the iPod and can share?
    Thanks.

yall are all going the wrong way.
    there's 2 pieces of software you'll need (they're free!!!):
    nero recode 2 CE
DVD decrypter (probably hard to find on the internet now)
use DVD decrypter to rip the DVD (here's a link for instructions but forget about the videora part, videora is slow http://www.duke.edu/~ds53/ipodguide.htm)
after u get the VOB files from DVD decrypter, use nero recode to convert (it says burn in the program) the video to an mpeg-4 video. you'll need to tweak the settings a bit:
set the size: select video thent he resize tab and enter 320 for the width and 240 for the height and hit OK. make sure that "Fit to target is not checked. press next
under burn options, choose where u want to save the video file. under nero digital settings, check the expert mode box and look for the encoding method setting. choose 2-pass. next, under advanced, ensure that the "simple Profile" box is checked.
press burn and just add it to ur itunes library like it'a a song.
    whew.
i got these steps from a book btw. if you want to know the name and the details of the book, send me an email ([email protected])
hope this helped (probably will, i have 7 full-length movies on my ipod right now) in case your wondering, the movies are: the fast and the furious, 2 fast 2 furious, fantastic 4, school of rock, spiderman, spiderman 2 and, finally, I,Robot

  • Uploading DVD from laptop to iPod Video

I have a wonderful music video I'd like to put on my iPod, but can't seem to figure out how to do that from the cd-drive on my laptop.
If anyone can help, I would greatly appreciate it. Yes, I've checked the manual....can't seem to figure out what to do.
    Thanks.

If it's a commercial DVD, sadly, the Terms of Use for these forums prohibit us from discussing methods of cracking the encryption which would be required in order to copy it.
If it is a non-commercial, non-encrypted DVD, you should check out your favorite download site (e.g. versiontracker.com) for video converters appropriate to your operating system.
Just one note, in your post, you mentioned that you have a CD drive in your laptop. If it's only a CD drive, you're not going to be able to do anything with a DVD. Is it, perhaps, a CD/DVD drive?

  • ITunes to iPod Video transfer issues

    Hi there
I've been having some trouble transfering a specific video file from itunes onto my iPod. It's in the proper format and is in my itunes video library (and plays fine there) but it simply won't do the automatic transfer to the ipod. I've tried deleting the file and reconverting the original source file(an mpeg) into the ipod format, but still no luck.
The weirdest part is that the file is part of a television series, and every other episode of the series transfers fine, this one simply doesn't register.
Thanks in advance for any help, this problem really is getting frustrating.

Do you get an error message saying that some of the files cannot be transfered, blah, blah, blah ?
Does the message bar in itunes tell you a file is being transfered?
Perhaps the file is transfered over-just not where you think it should be....have you checked the recently added playlist under videos?

  • ITunes to iPod video

I downloaded a video and it shows up under the video folder in iTunes on my PC and it does appear on the menu on my iPod display. However, it does not show on My iPod list under iTunes -- so if it ever comes to it, how do I delete it off of my iPod? or categorize them into genre, etc.?

Thanks so much hamltn! I knew if I deleted from the library it would cause an issue and I don't use auto update because it caused my PC to freeze every time. It sounds easy enough to do what I need to in the future -- too bad the iPod also doesn't have folders when in iTunes for things other than music! I appreciate the help and happy listening/watching!
I've also been annoyed at the lack of a nice little
'videos' icon under the iPod icon when the iPod is
attached to iTunes. Nevertheless, it can be done...
If you use auto-update, deleting the file(s) from
your iTunes library will cause them to be deleted
from the iPod next time you connect it.
If you use manual updating, you'll need to locate and
delete files manually. In iTunes, in the source
list, click the iPod icon to open its entire library.
Then sort the list however it's easiest to find the
content you're looking for (i.e., by Title, Artist,
etc.). Once you've found the file, right-click and
use the pop-up menu to delete it.

If it is NOT ALLOWED, then YOU need to tell them not close my posting. It sounds as if Apple has an internal issue to work out.
Please do not CLOSE my posting.

This is a user-to-user forum. We have no way of telling them anything.
Commercial DVDs are encrypted. In order to copy them, you'd need to break the encryption, which, in the U.S., is illegal. Because it's illegal, the terms of use of these forums prohibit discussion of software or methods.

    No, it cannot.

  • Synchro contacs & calendar between ITunes 6/Ipod Video and Outlook 2003

    it's impossible.....
ITunes did not see outlook on my pc.
In OPTIONS all synch well (music and photo..) but with calendar end contacts Itunes reports "you must have Outlook installed...."

As much as I love my iPod Touch, this problem syncing with Outlook 2003 -- and the failure of Apple to acknowledge it (at least there's nothing I've seen so far) -- has me ready to toss it out my office window. It all seems so random: Sometimes it's fine and the sync woriks, sometimes it's producing multiple versions of an appointment, and sometimes the appointment gets deleted from Outlook, the iPod or both. Looks like I actually do need a paper backup!! This is the second time that updating my iPod Touch has resulted in a major slip in functionality. The last time I was told that by an insider that Apple engineers dislike having to work out bugs with Windows, that they don't like Windows. Are we being punished? This is seriously annoying.

  • Is ripping DVD's to an iPod Legal?

I've used Handbrake to rip my DVD movies onto my iPod Video. I would like to know if it is legal or not. If possible, please have proof.
    Conditions:
-I only use it for myself
-I don't copy the movie to anyone else's iPod (even if they have the movie)
-I am not showing it to anyone
-I am not making a profit (a.k.a. I am not selling it)
    -I own the DVD's I am ripping

I am sorry, let me clarify. It is illegal to copy a movie (period). This is due to the Digital Millennium Copyright Act that congress passed.
That being said, the cops are not going to be knocking on your door for copying movies for your personal use. As long as you are not selling them / putting them online for download.
I rip movies and put them on my iPod to watch sometimes. I believe that I bought the DVD, I should be able to watch it were I please, on my iPod or TV. The Movie Industry begs to differ, however. The movie companies think just like the computer software companies, they believe that when you purchase a DVD you are not actually buying the movie. In fact, you are just buying a license to play the movie at your home.
You can read more about the copyright act by going here:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DigitalMillenium_CopyrightAct
I hope this clarifies what I was talking about.

Connect the iPod and go to edit-->preferenes. Click the iPod tab. Click the videos tab under that. Make sure automatically update all videos is selected.
Note: Your preferences may look slightly different.
Also, try playing the video you purchased from the iTunes Music Store for a few seconds on your computer.
