DVDSP 2 Project Files in Version 4?

Can you open project files created in DVDSP 2 in version 4?
If so, what problems can I expect.

You should be able to open the file I did a job for a client in 3 and opened it in 4 and it did somewhat of a conversion when I opened it into 4. For what I did it worked fine. good luck on your project.

There is no guarantee that a project created in an earlier version can be opened in a later one. Many times it can, but...
If you do try this, then please consider working from a copy of the project 10 project file and then trying to open that in 13/13.1.
Reason: projects created in an earlier version and then opened and edited in a later version cannot be opened again in the
earlier version.
And, there is always the issue of maintaining the connect of the source media with the project file. Is this move from 10 to 13/13.1
happening on the same computer and are the source media in the same place where they were when they were first imported
into the 10 project. Disc menus consideration may enter into this depending on your details.

Cannot open Project files from previous FCPX versions

Hello,
I'm currently on 10.0.8, and have not upgraded to 10.1.1. Here is my issue:
A documentary project I've been working on since 10.0.1 is not showing up in 10.0.8, and I'm wondering how to "manually" update the Project. I upgraded FCPX versions a few times while working on this Project (I think all the way up to 10.0.4), but then I stopped as I noticed it was negatively affecting parts of my project and making the application run slow (and Apple recommends you don't update versions while in the middle of a project). I finished that project, but now fast forward and I'm in 10.0.8 and I need to revisit that Project to make a few changes, but FCPX won't even recognize it. It successfully updated and recognizes the Events I used for this particular Project, but not the Project itself.
Any help/suggestions would be great.

Thanks Russ. After all this time, I actually solved the problem myself. I forgot that back 6 months ago, I renamed my Project file, from the default "CurrentVersion". I just came across another post that said you're not supposed to do that, so I changed my Project file back to "CurrentVersion" and now FCPX recognizes it. After all that toil, the answer was just too simple!!

Do newer versions of project files build on older ones?

I'm asking this for a friend.
The project in question has been revised several times. If one was to delete the older-version project files to recover some disc space, would it also delete the same resource files used in the newer versions?

To be clear, I hope your friend is not relying on auto-save to save their projects. Auto-saves in the auto-save folder are snap shot of a project file saved at adjustable intervals. These do not overwrite the active project file (Like what Final Cut X does). Your open project should be saved manually and often. You can "Save As" to create a new or back up project (redundant in most cases in my opinion).
What I recommend is to go into the Auto-save preferences and set it to save every 5-10 minutes, and raise the number of copies from a default of 20 to 100 or more. It really depends if you want to back up hours or days of work.
Also, when loading an autosave project, be sure to choose the project file by date\time created and not the the auto generated filename. This is because after the autosave project version limit has been reached, the numbering in the file names will rollover and then save over the 1st one, then second, and so on.
Lastly, when loading an autosave project, immediately do a "Save As" to you main project folder, outside of the auto-save folder, or else premiere will create a whole new set of sub folders, including an autosave folder.
I've seen confused editors trying to find their project, and they have like 4 levels of autosave folders and they have no clue what they have worked on.

After uninstalling and reinstalling Prelude CC none of my project files will open.
I get the notice "This version of the project file is not recognized!"

So after 3 hours of painful chat, Adobe Finally gave me the solution. They wouldn't answer my question without trying a bunch of things that I had said I already did, so hopefully this helps some people.
Somehow, updating was disabled, or suppressed, my the administrator (that's me). Adobe kind of forgot to give the administrator a way to then reenable that for users. You'd think that would be something the administrator would control from the admin console online, but no. You set it up once on install, then everyone is just stuck with whatever version they installed at the time. But good news! There's a file that suppresses that. You Might be able to simply delete it. I'm not sure.
But if you need to fix it, here it is. All 2 minutes that it will take you. Do NOT contact Adobe. Their help system is incredibly inefficient (but then again, aren't most?):
go here: C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\AAMUpdaterInventory\1.0
see an adobeUpdateradminprefs.dat file? Open that in notepad (or notepad++ or equivelant if you like that better)
Change the 1 to a zero and save.
That's all. That Should have been a known item, and would take all of 10 seconds to check, but I had to uninstall and reinstall several things before we went to a folder. Because uninstalling reinstalling is easier? ha
Now in response to Ramesh:
1. the issue is moot because previous versions of prelude can not open future versions. That's all over the web. So just make sure you have the current version.
2. we are now both at the current version.
3. offline media? we hadn't figured that out. If she closes the file and opens it again it seems to go away. So that's an unknown. And it's working now, so I don't really care.

Project files don't open after Trial Version

After trying the trial version of Final Cut Pro X on my home computer I took the external hard drives to my editor, who has a purchase version of FCPX, but now none of the project files will open.
Does apple put some kind of lock on project files once opened by the trial version? All updates are already installed.
Might anyone have a solution?

IIn the File menu. Update Projects and Events. The Final Cut Projects and Final Cut Events folders need to be in the correct location to be recognize by the application. There is some information here about updating

Copy FCP Project File to Another Computer - Version of FCP

Hi
I just started using the Media Manager, and it works great for copying RAW footage, and proejct files to another computer.
Just wondering;
In the tests I've conducted, the Project File got copied just fine to a system that contained the same FCP Version (5.1), as the source drive/system.
If I copy Raw Media and a Project File to another system that has version 6, will I be able to re-copy it back into my version; 5.1?

Can't find project files after upgrade to version 3.0

I upgraded Aperture from 2.0 to 3.x and I can no longer find my project files in the Aperture folder?
All is working fine, I just want to copy the project files and they are not visible in finder.

I misunderstood your question. As you were referring to the Aperture folder and locating things in the finder I thought you were trying to find the image files external to Aperture.
As for info on the structure of the library, from within Aperture take a look at the user manual: http://documentation.apple.com/en/aperture/ this is the online version its the same as what you get when you go to Help in Aperture. Pay particular attention to the first section which describes the various parts of the library and how it all goes together.

Using newer project files than my current version

I was just sent some project files for a project, but when I try to open them, I realize they were created with a newer version of final cut. It is not an option for me to upgrade, do I have any options to get these files to open? Is there a save as Final Cut Version .x option?

If they are on 6 and you 5.1, you can use XML 3
If you are on 5.0, you can use XML 2
If you are on 4.5, you must use XML 1

Project file failing to open on different machine with same version of FCP

i have been editing a documentary on my mac book, on an upgraded version of final cut studio two. i recently got an iMac, Intel Core 2 Duo, 2.66 GHz, and planned to continue editing the same project on this. i loaded fC studio to it, but when i tried to open my existing project file, it tells me that the project file's format is too new for the version of the application. but it's the exact same version!
totally stumped.

When you upgraded to the latest OS, do you mean from say Tiger to Leopard? If so and it wasn't done cleanly as an erase and install of that new OS, I'd suggest this could very well be the reason you're having problems...
If you'd like you could send me a copy of this project file... [email protected] If I can open it, it's likely your install that's causing the problem, and the fix is to wipe your hard drive and start over, or get another drive to start up from that's cleanly installed.

Is it not possible to open project files in FCP 5.1 that were made in FCP 6?

Not directly.
Export using XML (2 or 3) from FCP6 and import that into 5.1.

We are building an application that uses AERender.exe on the command line to output an .mp4 file.
Due to what licenses we have available, we're creating the project file using CS5.5, but rendering on a server using CS6.

I would think that would depend on the project, plug-ins used and other factors. You will probably have to run some tests and graph the results.

When working in Premiere (all versions), it will crash and revert back to the initial project file.

Even though I auto-save every 5 minues, when the Premiere crashes, it reverts to the initial project file that I opened. I lost 5 hours of editing yesterday. Any thoughts?

i dont know if there is a global restore original audio command... when i right click the edited audio file in premiere, i have an option to "restore unrendered", which restores the original audio. would still have to select them all and do this, or use the Find tool with the timeline window active, and search for "extracted" to find them one at a time. can also setup keyboard shortcuts for find next to speed the process up.
