Hi Chris,
Thanks for the reply. When I upgraded to Tiger I ran software update and it installed Pro Application Support. Is this a different patch? Because when I run software update it says my machine is up to date.
What I did then was completely remove DVDSP, re-installed it, updated to DVDSP 3.02 and still no dice. I also trashed preferences and no luck. I'm at the point where I might do a complete erase and install on the system. Any other ideas?
thanks,
Juan

  • Aperture crashes while importing from Canon Eos 5D

as from today aperture crashes while importing RAW pictures directly from my Canon eos 5D. did not have this problem before. after restarting aperture trys to recover the 4 or 5 imported pictures and then crashes again. As i'm on holyday and not having the original aperture DVD i can not reinstall aperture. Using iphoto is no problem, but importing the same pictures from iphoto into aperture results in crashing. anyone knows about this?
    Hugo

Before 10.5 came out, there were lots of rumors from fairly reliable websites about 10.4.11 imminent releases. In fact, plenty of us were hoping it would come out before 10.5, and with the expanded list of supported RAWs. But it's been over a week since 10.5, and there's no update from any of those rumor sites on 10.4.11. So, who knows...
I can definitely your frustration. But 10.5 is probably a worthwhile upgrade for most Mac users. Unless there's specific reasons (like there's a software you use that's known to be incompatible), you may want to upgrade now.
I am very happy with 10.5, and the the 40D RAW files look good on Aperture. No sRAW support though, which you may already know.

    Suggestions?

I'm having the same problem. It occurs since updating from 10.5 to 10.6.8. It doesn't matter what I want to import, it crashes on clicking on the import button. I can import anything by dragging, but it seems asking for any outside contact crashes DVDSP - even trying to save.

  • IPhoto crashed while importing photos

While importing photos, iPhoto crashed. Now the pictures are damaged. Is there a possibility to regain them or salvage them?

I recovered the pictures in "Today" but they are damaged. You see the pictures in iPhoto but they are very small and there is no information about the picture availabe (shuttertime, diafragma etc).
Those are not your photos, only the thumbnails used for display.
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Itunes crashing while importing audiobooks/cd's

Could someone please advise me as to why my iTunes keeps crashing while I am trying to import either audiobooks or cd's. It gets almost done, and then it just shuts down. This problem has been escalating, as I was able to import 2 or 3 discs at a time then it would crash. I would then come back to it later, and start again. Now, I can't do any at all. Does anyone have any thoughts for me? Please? Thanks in advance.

I seem to be having the same problem. I insert the cd and it reads it fine. I click to import and iTunes locks up. I use task manager to close iTunes and system is still bogged down. I have paid several people $$ and they don't seem to know the problem. There has to be a conflict somewhere but where?
Last person to help suggested that I use WinAmp to rip the cd and THEN import to iTunes.
Hubby has a Creative Labs MP3 and ripped 100+ cd's prior to iTunes installation with no problem.
    Can anybody out there help?

  • ITunes crashing while importing from CD

I am a very new first-time iPod owner and am very frustrated by iTunes crashing with an access violation while importing from CD.
This has happened with a number of different and brand new CDs and it will import a number of tracks but then falls over. If I try to just import the particular track it will crash again but other tracks are imported OK. However if I drag and drop the same track from a windows explorer view into iTunes it will then import fine without crashing.
Any suggestions? OS is XP Pro. PC is Athlon 64 Dual Core with 1GB RAM. iTunes v 6.0.1.3

  • Crashing while importing AAF created in AVid

I am trying to exchange sequences between AVID MC 5.0 and PP CS5.  I have exported my media from AVid 2 ways:  1) by linking to ("don't export") and 2) by exporting media.  The AAF is created and when I try to import into a new project in PP with the same project settings PP crashes.
    any advice?

I was able to import an AAF without media attached.  So basically I got
the timeline to import into Premiere. Maybe you are then supposed to get
copies of the source files (not the mxf files but the source that
created the mxf?) and link to the source files?
I'm having the same problem.  I've tried to export different AAF's from Avid.  Either linked to original location, consolidated to folder or embedded.  Premiere will either crash on import, or import the sequence with audio but all video offline.
I've been through what I can find of documentation, and there seem to be scant few details about what kind of AAF's Premiere will accept.
Avid MC v 5.0.3.5, project 25i PAL, media 1:1 MXF
    Premiere 5.0.2
    System:
    Windows 7 x64 Professional
    Dell Precision T7500

  • Encore CS5 crashes on importing assets

I am running CS5 on a fresh install with Windows 7/ 64 bit with 8GB RAM on 2.66GHz quad CPU, NVidia GeForce 8800GT video card with latest video drivers. I also have a Matrox MX02 Mini installed.  Photoshop CS5 and PremierePro CS5 so far work perfectly.  Encore CS5 will run but crashes when I try to import an asset.  It doesn't matter what kind of an asset it is (wav, mp3, avi, mpg, etc.), it will crash.  Encore will show a window which says "Preparing Transcoding Settings", tries to import the aset, says that it has 20 or 30 minutes to go (even for tiny files), and then it crashes.  The crash involves that same message window blinking for a while (looks weird), and then the program crashes and an error message appears.  I am running the latest CS5 updates from Adobe (updated today).  However, the crashing of Encore CS5 happened even before today's update.  I need to burn a DVD pronto but I'm stuck.   Please help.

Sorry when I see disappointment and frustration and when I see someone's going to leave Adobe.
I have your same "gear" and everything works ok.
Just in case you haven't jet done it:
-download Encore update and leave it on your desktop
-uninstall completely the suite and eventually all third plug-ins
-run Adobe cleaner or go to register and clear everything that mentions your suite
    -re-start your pc
-re-install your suite with every antivirus and/or antiadware, spyware switched off (obviously don't stay connected with internet)
    -after that update your Encore
-swith on your antiviruses and re-connect with internet
-let Adobe Updater modify your other applications.
    See what happens.
Apply one by one your third plug-ins
If this will work you had to give me a pizza
Don't forget to run your applications as administrator
    Ciao

  • Studio Pro 3 Crashes While Loading Assets

I believe this is the first time that I've tried to run DVDSP3 since I got my Quad a week or so ago...
The application itself opens just fine but as soon as I try to add an asset to a new file or try to open an existing file with assets, it'll just crash out on me...
    I've seen a few things...
Two processes - DVDSP_EncoderServer and AEncoderServer show up 'red' in Activity Monitor and one of my CPUs peaks to 100% with system red usage... this shows up in the crash log as a Thread 0 crash...
Another one is much faster and is a KERNBADACCESS error...
I've tried re-installing... nothing... deleting all prefs and receipts...
    Anyone familiar with this?
    Thanks!

    Hi guys,
I've posted this before several times. I checked with Apple support and DVDSP3 is not supported under the Quad Systems. You have to upgrade to DVDSP4. Don't get me started - my postings have already been removed by Apple several times as not "conforming to the Terms of Use"!
I'm trying to spread the word - basically, you can't import MPEG files in DVDSP3. I know that it's annoying that no one from Apple tells you about it ahead of time. The only response I keep getting is, "Well, if you have an awesome machine, why would you use old software?"
I'm running DVDSP4 and it's fine. Also, coincidentally, DVDSP 1.5 also works. The problem only exists on the Quad systems and is not really related to Tiger. If you don't have a Quad system, you MIGHT be able to get DVDSP3 working with the Pro App updates.

  • Mail 2 crashes while importing from Entourage X

    Hello all:
I am trying to move over from Entourage X to Mail/Address Book/iCal under Tiger. However, when I try to run the import from Entourage feature in Mail, I am unable to import my mail files from Entourage.
Specifically, the problem I'm having is that Mail crashes mid-way through the import process. When I restart Mail, it attempts to re-start the import process but crashes again. If I hit "Cancel" I can see part of my folder structure under the "Import" folder, but no mail messages in it.
One possibility is that my Mail database in Entourage is very large, with thousands of mail messages and a fairly complicated folder structure. Based on the progress bar, I estimate a total import would take about an hour or so. The crash appears to happen 10-15 minutes into the import process.
Does anyone have any suggestions how I might be able to get around this? I would very much like to switch over to Mail - I assume that it is a better application than Entourage.
    Thanks,
    Sohil

Let’s fix the second problem first. Step 4 in the procedure below will cause Mail to treat everything still on the server as if new and try to download it again. Hence, before proceeding, you my want to delete from the server any messages you don’t want to be downloaded again.
Verify/repair the startup disk (not just permissions), as described here:
The Repair functions of Disk Utility: what's it all about?
After having fixed all filesystem issues, if any, and making sure that there’s enough space available on the startup disk (a few GB, plus the space needed to make a backup copy of the Mail folder), try this:
    1. Quit Mail if it’s running.
    2. In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Mail/. Make a backup copy of this folder, just in case something goes wrong, e.g. by dragging it to the Desktop while holding the Option (Alt) key down. This is where all your mail is stored.
    3. Locate Envelope Index and move it to the Trash. If you see an Envelope Index-journal file there, delete it as well.
    4. In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Mail/POP-username@mailserver/. Locate one or two files named MessageUidsAlreadyDownloaded and move them to the Trash.
    5. Open Mail. It will tell you that your mail needs to be “imported”. Click Continue and Mail will proceed to re-create Envelope Index -- Mail says it’s “importing”, but it just re-creates the index if the mailboxes are already in Mail 2.x format.
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user’s home folder, i.e. ~/Library is the Library folder within the user’s home folder.

  • Mac crashes while importing / viewing photos in Lightroom

Does any one have any clue as to what might be causing my Mac to crash/stall when I am:
Using Lightoom to import files / viewing the files in library while they download. (It doesn't crash if I just leave it to download and don't view the files).
I'm downloading from high speed Lexar CF cards / using their pro CF card reader (in express port)
I'm working on a Mac Book Pro, running Lion!
Never had this problem when I used same cards / readers under Windows 7 64 bit in Lightroom!

Send the crash log to Adobe. The crash log can be had from the console app, or by looking in your CrashReporter folder in your Library.

  • Crashes while importing TIFFs.  Also, how to import directly into an album?

Just got Aperture last night in the mail. Upgraded to 1.1.1.
I have about 250 CDs with TIFF images that I've created over the years. The TIFF files were created by a Nikon film scanner. Some of those images were later re-touched and re-saved using Photoshop.
In any event, I started importing all those CDs into Aperture to consolidate all my photographs in one place. On the first CD, Aperture crashed unexpectedly for no reason. The Aperture database would also get corrupted and I would have to delete it, and start from scratch.
Here's what I discovered. If I wait for Aperture to generate a thumbnail of all the images in the CD before I click on the "Import All" button, there are four images in the CD for which Aperture does not generate a thumbnail. Furthermore, if I tried to import the same CD into iPhoto, all files but those four would get imported. At least iPhoto doesn't crash, and after the import is finished it would tell me that four photographs could not be imported because the format was not recognized. The interesting thing is that Photoshop can open every single file on the CD (again, all of them are TIFF images)
So my (painful) workaround is to import all my CDs into iPhoto first, and then import into Aperture from iPhoto, which works very well. That way the Aperture repository doesn't get corrupted.
So, question 1: does anybody know if there's a special setting in Aperture that would stop it from crashing and gracefuly skip over any photographs that it can't recognize?
Question 2: I want to import every single CD into its own album so I later know what CD I can find the image on. Aperture seems to import always onto the project, not the album. Is there a way around this?
When I import into iPhoto, I create an empty album and then drag the files from the CD onto that album. If I then import the iPhoto album into Aperture, Aperture automatically creates an album, which is nice. I'd love to do the same but with iPhoto out of the picture (excuse the pun). That would speed up the import process tremendously.
    Thanks for your help,
    Julian

    Are there two questions here?
    1. You can indeed create an album under a Project in advance and Import direct to that. One Album per CD? Works fine. Just point the Import Arrow at the Album. NOTE: the Masters are actually held in the Project (this is true across Aperture) and Pointers are held in the Album .... but the effect is of Albums with photos > Project containing all the photos.
    2. These TIF files are not corrupt, if Photoshop or iPhoto opens them. This has got to be an Aperture bug and I have the same issues with TIF's. Created a thread about it, so I hope the Aperture development team did read it (please, please, please). You could convert in Photoshop to .PSD vs. resaving (unless this is what you did) as I haven't noted this problem with .PSD files

  • IPhoto crashing while importing photos

I have a Canon PowerShot SD1200. I've had a couple of minor issues since I got it, just at Christmas, but they seemed to resolve themselves. Now, iPhoto just won't import the photos that are on the camera - it crashes partway through the import process. I've had a couple of other cameras that I haven't had any trouble with. If anyone has any thoughts, I'd appreciate it!

Thanks for the tip about Image Capture. I didn't know about it. When I downloaded using it, I discovered that there are some .avi files in there as well, which iPhoto obviously isn't dealing with very well. For some reason, my camera is not showing up as a drive or directory when it's plugged in, so I couldn't tell that before.
Cannon for some reason chooses not to have their camera mount to the desktop the way that most others do
I don't know the camera format command, but maybe I don't need it now.
It is documented in your camera manual and it is a good idea to use it regularly - the best work flow is to use a USB card reader, not ever have Photo delete your photos and after downloading the photos and fully testing them in iPhoto (and I wait for at least one backup cycle) then use the camera to format the card - this deletes the photos and renews the card format
The next best is to import from the camera and not delete - use the camera format command after testing (and backing up)
