DVDSP pixillating burn and build!!

I've got an uncompressed 8-bit short film that needs burning.
Everything goes smoothly, except there is significant quality loss when playing back the DVD. So I've done a build too, and played that back on 'DVD Player'...same problem.
I'ts a pixillation on pretty much the whole film, and gets unwatchable with movement. i'm going through compressor at the moment, but fear compressing it twice will give me worse results.
Any advice appreciated.

You are better off using Compressor the m2v will not be recompressed if placed on a track.
What it is the time of the movie? (It will affect the video rate you can use take a look here http://dvdstepbystep.com/faqs_7.php)
What was the original footage and how did you edit in FCP? (Could be something there.) Also you can try adjusting the frame controls in Compressor to see if it helps more, or perhaps see if another encoder, such as bitVice, www.innobits.se, may work better for you. Which version of Final Cut/DVD SP are you using and what type of iMac do you have?

  • DVDSP Slideshow will not Build...

Hi, I'm wrinting this because I simply cannot build my iphoto slideshows to DVD. Here is what I have done. Maybe I've done something wrong.
I have 7 slideshows from iPhoto that I would like to put into a DVD using DVDSP3. My intentions are to open up with a 15sec intro. Following that intro will be the main menu featuring a submenu for every slideshow. Totaling 7 submenus.
What I did was I took the intro mov and placed it in track 1. I then linked track one to the main menu. I then placed the slideshows from the "stills" tab, onto the menu. I added a background song to the menu, and placed songs to go along with each slideshow.
Finally, I hit build/burn and let it go. It gets to about the 75-80% mark and then it brings up an error.
    "Slideshow 5:Invalid Video Asset"
That sounds to me like one of the files can't be understood by DVDSP3. But all the files are the same. The pictures are ALL JPEG / 720x480 / 8-bit / RGB.
    PLEASE HELP!
    Thanks
    Paul

    Chris,
Thanks for the help! I got it to work. Thankfully I saved all the original pictures as uncompressed psd's so I didn't loose any quality when I saved them as picts. So I was able to build and burn the final project to a DVD and view it on my home DVD player.
On the other hand, I now have a new problem. It seems that 2 of my 7 slideshows "skrew up" at the end of the their play. I'll explain...
I have each slideshow aligned to audio. I will click on the first slideshow to begin the entire movie. The movie will go fine until it hits the END of the 3rd slideshow. When it does, it begins the 4th slideshow slide and then skips back to halfway through the 3rd slideshow. It also does this to my last show as well! What the heck is going on?!
The beauty of this is, when I click on the individual chapters, they don't do it. Please help, I want to get this project OUT!
    Thanks
    Paul

  • How to archive 1,000 tv stories: DVDSP + dedicated burner?

    Hi there,
I don't know where to begin, so I'd love some advice.
I've work for a Canadian tv show that has just one more season left before we're disbanded: for the last nineteen years we've done five or six-minute human interest stories right across the country.  Now that the show is coming to an end, I'd like to archive past shows (which are on betacam SP and SX tapes) - - the worry is they might otherwise disappear once no one's around to keep an eye on them.
Let's say there are 320 shows in all, each a half-hour - - i.e. about 22 minutes of program time per show.  That's about 117, let's say 120 hours of media.  According to the 5 minutes of DV footage per GB equation, I can fit about fifty shows onto each of my (two) 250 GB drives.  That's a hundred shows at a time.  Not bad, if a bit humbling.  Years of my life reduced to a bunch of 1s and 0s in a little metal-clad box. Oh well.
O.K., so I know I can import these stories and shows via a media converter onto my hard drive(s), within Avid Xpress (sorry, I'd use FCP but I work at an Avid-only place; I've done well just to hang on to my Apple; my computer is a Dual 1.25 G4, by the way, running 10.4.4).
My question is this:  once I get them into Avid, and before burning them onto DVD, I'd like to organize them into seasons and years; I'd like to make sure every story in each show is titled, etc. In other words, make the DVDs look professional - - and DVD Studio Pro may be the right tool for me to use, right? I've never used it, but I'm guessing this is what it's all about.
So my second question may better the better one, because I know even less about this next step: the couple times I've burned a DVD using my G4, it's taken forever. I simply won't have enough hours in the day to do this for all the DVDs I'd like to burn (let's say, a DVD for each season, which is twenty in all, but with multiple requests for every one).
Should I invest in a dedicated DVD-burner? If so, how does it work. Is it attached to my G4, and I simply burn from within DVD Studio Pro right to this thing? Does it have a hard drive large enough to hold all twenty DVDs-worth of shows? I mean, I know it's unlikely it could hold 120 hours worth of stories, but unless I'm wrong, the stuff will be compressed when it goes to the DVD-burner's hard drive (to MPEG-4 I think)... so maybe all twenty DVDs-worth will fit onto the DVD-burner.
It would be great if all twenty could fit, and then stay there, so if someone suddenly writes in wanting a certain show or a particular story, I could easily find it on the DVD-burner, and burn it, without having to go back to my G4.
Sorry for rambling - - I hope this makes sense.
Any advice would be most appreciated.

    Hi there,
I don't know where to begin, so I'd love some
    advice.
    Sounds like a big project
My question is this:  once I get them into Avid, and
before burning them onto DVD, I'd like to organize
them into seasons and years; I'd like to make sure
every story in each show is titled, etc. In other
words, make the DVDs look professional - - and DVD
Studio Pro may be the right tool for me to use,
right? I've never used it, but I'm guessing this is
    what it's all about.
DVD SP can do alot of things and make things look good, but you may need other things such as Motion, Photoshop, After Effects for what you are trying to do to make it look professional (was not sure if you were talking about chyroning, credits in the video itself or the DVD itself. If the former, you would want to do it outside of DVD SP for the most part, if the later then some of those other tools help bring different looks to the menus, though there are alot of nice premade templates and other approaches.
So my second question may better the better one,
because I know even less about this next step: the
couple times I've burned a DVD using my G4, it's
taken forever. I simply won't have enough hours in
the day to do this for all the DVDs I'd like to burn
(let's say, a DVD for each season, which is twenty in
all, but with multiple requests for every one).
Not sure if it is burning or encoding that is hanging you up. The assets (video etc.) need to be converted to m2vs themselves then muxed then burned. The encodiing then muxing takes thee time, the burns not that much. Always better to encode outside of DVD SP then bring into DVD SP. You have tons of hours of material, and software encoding takes a long time (on a DP G5 I get about 5 hours for every 1 hour of video give or take, sometimes quicker.) Lacie makes a hardware encoder which does a nice job, hooks up by firewire and is $100 US and encodes 1 hour in 1 hour (once it is DV). Maybe not quite as good as some software encoders (talking Mac here) but I did alot of A/Bing and for the most part not noticiable..
Should I invest in a dedicated DVD-burner? If so,
how does it work. Is it attached to my G4, and I
simply burn from within DVD Studio Pro right to this
thing? Does it have a hard drive large enough to
hold all twenty DVDs-worth of shows? I mean, I know
it's unlikely it could hold 120 hours worth of
stories, but unless I'm wrong, the stuff will be
compressed when it goes to the DVD-burner's hard
    drive (to MPEG-4 I think)...
MPEG-2 I have never used a external DVD Burner unit (assuming a tower or something) as oppossed to just an external DVD Burner (none tower, just drive?)
Anyway one thing I would say is get yourself a few external FW Drives and HDs. WIth the price of these things so low, and the size of you project, you are going to want (a) a copy of all Avid Footage on at least two drives, (b) a copy of all the DVD SP projects and builds on at least two drives and a good safe offsite location for them. I would probably make a couple of copies of each to be safe (and being compulsive ) I have my working copy, an on-site copy of the working copy, then off-site drives I rotate
Right now SATA Drives are dropping and will replace IDE for the most part (pretty fast stuff) Usually cheaper to make your own drives save some dollars and worth alot more when looking at many Gigs - A PCI card is about $130, cases (have not shopped alot because I stick to some brands) are $79 and hold two drives, and 400 Gig drives are under $200. Can put it together in under 5 minutes.
    so maybe all twenty
DVDs-worth will fit onto the DVD-burner.
It would be great if all twenty could fit, and then
stay there, so if someone suddenly writes in wanting
a certain show or a particular story, I could easily
find it on the DVD-burner, and burn it, without
having to go back to my G4.
Sorry for rambling - - I hope this makes sense.

I would not use the internal DVD drive to burn, I would get an external drive to save wear andd tear on my machine (if doing lots of one offs.) I would also use Toast to burn them (again assuming a non Dedicated tower thing) annd would even consider a beater old ibook or something just to burn DVDs (really depends on how many you think you are going to be making when people request them/how often you think they will). If not many, just pop blank DVDs in and press burn. But if you expect to get many requests for all the shows, then you probably want something else.
Make sure you carefully name each set of DVs and projects, show dates such as 20060225 so they are easy to see in order. Also take advantage of Tiger and comments. FIll them in as you do them, persons, places, subject matter and anything else you can think you may need to search for, will make life alot easier when looking later.
Sorry I do not have more info on dedicated DVD Burner/Towers, have not used them, hope the other info helps. Let me know if it makes sense.

  • DVDSP 1.5 and FCE 3.5

Hi all! I used to use FCE 2 and DVDSP 1.5 and I always exported to mpeg2 and it always looked fantastic when I burned it to disc. When I upgraded to FCE 3.5 I started experimenting with iDVD since it seems so simple. I've been experiencing major frustration using iDVD to burn DVDs of material that I edit in FCE 3.5. Everything is always blurry and unacceptable. So I'm toying with the idea of reloading my old DVDSP 1.5 and using it again. I always liked 1.5 and it suited my needs well, since I wasn't doing anything oerly elaborate with the menus anyway. I just need it to burn discs properly and to give me a true representation of what I created in FCE. If DVDSP 1.5 is loaded on my iMac, will I be able to export from FCE to mpeg2 once again? Also, will there be any compatability issues running and older program like DVDSP 1.5 with OSX 10.4.9? Any help or suggestions will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks Silal. Yeah, I've tried it as self-contained and not self-contained and it always look good on playback but when iDVD burns it to a disc I get the weird pixel lines around any movement. I can't tell any difference there.
The older version of FCE that I had before I upgraded would allow me to export an mpeg2 because I had DVDSP 1.5 loaded as well. Now that I've upgraded to FCE 3.5 it still lists that it can export mpeg2, and I would think it should be able to do this since DVDSP is loaded, but it doesn't. It just gives me that "video is not rendered" message even though my video IS rendered. It makes no sense.

  • DVD burner and DVD Studio Pro

Are the Mac Pros and the other intel macs have better compatibility with authoring DVDs than the G4s? I'm on my dual 867 mhz G4, and when I encode using compressor with the default setting, and build it in DVD Studio Pro, the dvd plays fine on my sony player but not on some other DVD players like JVC. My friends JVC recorer is new, they just got it a month ago, and it says it plays DVD/R discs. I produced a 7 minute short, and even with the short film, it still has problems playing on some dvd players.

I've cleaned it using disc cleaner and I've also burned the video_ts files to my sony DVD burner (my sony DVD burner is only 3 months old) besides the burner in my Mac and I'm still having playback issues on some DVD players? I've also tested them without dvd lables on verbatim discs. So no one else is having any problems authoring their DVDs on the Mac Pros or the other intel based macs?

  • Location and building in Training and Event Management

    Hello Dear Friends,
I Have a maybe very simple but confusing question.
I can not distinguish between "Location" and "Building" in Training and Event Management.Does Location contain buldings?
what is the relation between these two? and where do they join and link to each other? please give me an example.
Edited by: AppreciateSAP on Dec 28, 2010 9:54 AM

    HI,
Location means name of the city/town where the training is conducted,
Building means, in one city there may be more then one training institute/different building.
    for an Ex.
    Location - Delhi.
Building-    Where the training is actually conducted. Like building 1 and building 2.

This looks like the final logo was created with several layers probably in Illustrator, then the file was most likely imported into After Effects and revealed by animating mask paths.

I am running Mac OSX 10.4.11. According to the System profiler the CD/DVD drive is a "PioneerDVD-RWDVR-112D." When I compare the information under this heading, the only unusual difference from my iMac is that the G5 reads "Burn Support: Yes (Unsupported)." My iMac reads "Burn Support: Yes (Apple Shipping Drive)."
Under the System Preferences the options are set to "Ask what to do" when a blank CD or DVD is inserted. Music CD set to open iTunes, Picture CD set to open iPhoto, Video DVD set to open DVD player.

I can't burn a dvd using any method, idvd tells me that my super drive is missing, dvd studio pro quits when i click burn and disk utility keeps spitting the disk out when I click burn and enter the disk??? how do i repair my superdrive for imac, or how do I do whatever I need to do to get it working: I have already tried using a lens cleaning cd and also restored my nvram or something i forget what it was called but i restarted my computer holding down  command+optoion+p+r and still nothing???
Free solutions are the best, although if I have to pay I will, I would prefer to not have to buy an external burner if possible and already know that is an option so please don't give me that answer... thank you for any help you can give

Unless your iMac is still covered by AppleCare, get an external DVD burner.
You can get perfectly good ones from Amazon for less than $40.

  • How can I add new content in iDVD to a DVD-RW disc which has ample remaining free space? After preparing the new video for burning and clicking on Burn to iDVD, I get a window saying the disc's already recorded and that I can either Erase or Eject.

How can I add new content in iDVD to a DVD-RW disc with a video previously successfully recorded on it? (The disc has ample remaining free space.)
After preparing the new video for burning and clicking in the File menu on Burn to iDVD, I get a window saying the disc's already recorded and that I can either Erase or Eject. My assumption has been that iDVD would automatically find the free space and continue with the new recording from there. I'd be grateful if anyone can shine light on this.

There are, but not with a DVD written as a movie disk. It must be closed when completed, or it doesn't work.
Apple's built in Burn utility also automatically closes any data CD, DVD or Blu-ray disk you burn. Doesn't matter how much space is unused, you can't use it. You'd have to use a more advanced disk creation app, such as Toast Titanium. I then have the option of choosing to write the data as a session:
I can keep doing this until the disk is full. If I've written five sessions to the disk, when I put it in the drive, five CD/DVD icons will appear on the desktop since the OS will treat each session as if they are separate physical disks. At any point you choose Write Disk when writing a group of data, that means you're closing the disk, and again can't add anything after that. So if I had written two sessions, and the third was Write Disk, it's over. I can't put anything else on that disk.

When I installed itunes into my old computer (loaded with Windows Vista) it deleated my CD burner and would only allow me to burn via itunes - I had to go in to Best Buy to have them fis the problem but was told not to download new updates for itunes or it would do the same. with this fix I am not able to burn CDs from itunes which is a bummer.  If I download itunes onto my new  computer (loaded with Windows 7) is it going to do the same thing or has  this problem been resolved?

Copy them from your old computer, or your backuo copy of your old computer. to your new one.
The music sync is one way - computer to ipod.  the exception is itunes purchases.

  • RH10 variable and build tag source file names

I'm using RH10 and outputting to WebHelp. My company requires that I archive project source files to our CVS via Eclipse. I am not using RoboSource_Control and must use the company's development resources for archiving.
Since archiving the initial project, I have been uploading only source files with modified dates.
However, I have discovered that the files I thought were storing user variables and build tags are not the correct files to archive. Since I am uploading all files with a newer date and that's not working, I need to know the user variable source file name and the build tag source file name that stores the currently defined variables and build tags.
I have already tried the WebHelp forum and was directed to this forum to pose the question because I'm looking for source file information instead of output file information.
    Thanks for your help!
    karen

Yes, Eclipse does work that way. However, we do not use our development directory as the local Eclipse repository. I need to move changed files to the local repository (stores all source files in the project) so that Eclipse can upload changes to the server. Yes, this is planned redundancy.
That said, it is not acceptable to spend the time copying all files in the large projects from the work folder to the local repository. I simply need to know which individual files to copy that include the currently defined variables and build tags. Note, we do not copy the SSL folder output files to our local source file repository, or other associated reference files that are not actually project source files.
Can you find someone who knows which files I need?
    Thanks,
    karen
