DVDSP Quits

I am having a problem with DVDSP quitting unexpectedly. I did one lesson of the APTS book, and when I start the next lesson, one of the first things they get you to do is change to the Extended window configuration. As soon as I try to do this the program quits. I've tried several times and it does it every time.
I have also noticed that when I quit the program normally, it sometimes gives the same message "The application DVD Studio Pro quit unexpectedly."
I don't know if it's related or not, but I've noticed that every time I use Soundtrack it gives the "quite unexpectedly" message after I shut down the program normally.
I have only noticed these problems since upgrading to Tiger. I am running 10.4.2 and the Production Suite (FCP 4.5HD, DVDSP3, Soundtrack (not pro) and Motion 1). I had a problem in FCP with recognising my dv camera after the upgrade to Tiger, but I trashed some receipts and reinstalled Quicktime and now it is fine.
Is there a similar fix for this other problem with DVDSP (and Soundtrack)?
Thanks for any help!

  • DVDSP Quits on startup???

I have a large project that contains video and slideshows and many menus. The client wanted to delete photos from the slideshows so we went thru the photos in the finder and deleted the ones they wanted. Now when I try to star DVDSP, it asks me for some missing photos. I click continue and the app unexpectantly quits. I can't relink because I deleted the photos? Is there any way around this? Any suggestions would be great. If I have to start from scratch, it would set me back 3 days.
    Please help!!!
    John

  • DVDSP quits when it gets to 100% muxing track. How do I troubleshoot?

I have a dual layer project which I am testing.
    I successfully made one version.
I then updated it with new versions of three of the 48 video assets and one of the audio assets in the project.
Now when I go to build it DVDSP gets to 100% of Muxing Track 1 (there is only one track) and then the program quits on me. I have no error messages so it's hard to troubleshoot...
Please may I have some suggestions as to how to best troubleshoot this?
    Thanks
    Mark

Instead of posting HTML here, which the board is not really designed to handle, could you edit your post to clear that out and provide the URL to the page that has the problem?
When I look at the home page at http://www.falmouthgoatrace.org/ I don't see a problem.
When you have a problem with one particular site, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.
    (1) Bypass Firefox's Cache
Use Ctrl+Shift+r to reload the page fresh from the server.
Alternately, you also can clear Firefox's cache completely using:
orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced
On the Network mini-tab > Cached Web Content : "Clear Now"
If you have a large hard drive, this might take a few minutes.
    (2) Remove the site's cookies. Save any pending work first.
While viewing a page on the site, you can call the dialog to remove the cookie using either:
    * right-click and choose View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
    * Alt+t (open the classic Tools menu) > Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
Then try reloading the page. Does that help?

  • DVDSP UNEXPECTEDLY QUIT when building...? HELP

    Hi,
Huge problem here! I'm working on a big project for a long time now; lots of trks, chapters, stories etc.
2 dvds 4gigs highly interactive. That project was programmed on another computer and since I changed computer and loaded FinalCut Studio 2, DVDSP quits when building everytime and on both dvds. It had never done that before and was programmed on DVDSP 4, in the end. It crashes at the same place, I verify my trks, clips, etc around that area.. nothing seems wrong. Surprisingly, I never get a red flag! Just a app. crash!
I've done all the upgrades, system and apps. I'm up to date. I've trashed prefs, ran Disk Warrior and rebuilt my system and data disks.
I'm out of ressources now! PLEASE HELP!
    JP

First thing to chewck is to make sure that there are no gaps in the audio or video inb the timeline. Second is to check your encoding rates. You see it is crashing at the same place, if you see it is muxing a track at the time (or you can look to see the last VTS which was built) it can show you where the issue may be.
Also did you wipe out the hard drive and do a clean install without installing the prior Studio? That seems to be the best way to install the ne Studio (in other words do not install it over a prior installation)
Are you using subtitles, alternate angles or alternate audio?

  • FaceTime windows in the windows problem

How to put the little windows with the mirror in FaceTime?Because my friend have it but not me (I have a Macbook Pro 13")

    You are not alone.
Man, sounds crazy but today the same exact thing happened to me. I tried everything you tried. I had to go to a backup file since I could not get the Quadrant area to reshow itself. The funny thing is, the file WAS somehow open because you could close it and even save it! Like you most everything else in the menu bar was grayed out.
Luckily my system backed up the file last night so I did not lose much. But I easily could have.
Only one thing was strange when I last used the file in its working state. I closed DVDSP, it asked if I wanted to save the file, I said yes, it saved the file then I got an error that DVDSP quit unexpectedly.
I assume the file was corrupted at save. From now on I save two copies of the file and never quit and say yes to save. I save THEN quit.
BTW, other projects opened fine. Just this one had the problem.

  • DVDSP 3 Not Importing m2v file, Unexpectedley Quits

I'm experiencing a very consistent quit, and I'm looking for a work around.
In trying to import an asset, I've created a reference movie file, and in the same folder placed the two compressed pieces that I'm trying to import (.aiff and .m2v). I can import the audio, but not the video. I can't even select it to trash it.
    Any suggestions?

    Hi Hal,
    Thanks for responding.
I downloaded and installed the latest proapp support file, as you suggested, and I tried opeing the file in QT (Pro). What's really curious to me is the behavior of the .m2v file. The only way I can trash it is by selecting it either with a set of files in the same folder, or by trashing the whole folder. Just selecting it by itself in the Finder causes the Finder window to go away. Selecting the file in DVDSP 3 causes an immediate quit. Same thing with trying to open it in QT.
My workflow has been FCP (4.5) sequence Export, QT movie (reference) > Compressor (60 min High Quality Encode) > DVDSP 3 Import... As I've said, I can import audio, no problem (.aiff). Bringing in the .m2v has been impossible, so far. Each time I select the file, the application (DVDSP 3) quits.

  • HELP!  DVDSP keeps quitting when I build

Every time I try to build, DVDSP gets to 1% on the progress bar and then quits. In the log menu it stops at rendering the main title page.
    I'm using DVDSP 3.0.2
    OS 10.4.8
    G4 MDD PPC Dual 1.25Ghz
I've tried trashing my prefs and repairing permissions to no avail. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Should not make a difference it is an m2v
Check to see what your settings are for the loop when it is in the menu (start time of the clip, loop point, end point and what happens at the end) and check the audio file for the same information. If you changed an element sometimes resetting the sliders will cure the problem - there was something that would cause compile errors in there. No just cannot remember what the combination was, it has been awhile on that one, but I always check the sliders so do not have the issue

  • DVD Studio Pro quits unexpectedly

Here is the conversation I've had under OS X Mountain Lion that I was suggested to post under Final Cut Studio hoping someone might be able to help me here:

Whenever I click on Font Panel button inside Preferences to change subtitle fonts, the wheel starts turning for a while until DVD SP shuts itself. It's the same with Menu Button and Text Fonts. There's no trouble with changing any other preferences though. Deleting DVD SP with all the preferences etc. and reinstalling it did not help either.
I ignored this and created a project using the compressed mpeg2 media converted inside Compressor with DVD Best Quality 90 minutes. The media used was H264 PAL. Subtitles in the project are Belle-nuit graphic files and menus are PSD. It runs through fine until the end. After finishing all the build process, instead of completing, DVD SP 4.2.2 quits again which is not unexpected to me anymore after my 5th attempt.
I begin to suspect if this may be a compatibility case as I have the most recent technology imac.
Hoping that I made myself clear enough, any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

Maybe my story will help You...
just after upgrade to Snow Leopard (new disk for system, users, settings and apps transferred from old system) DVD SP quits when i tryied to choose for example another location for my build.
None of these standard task helped:
    repair permissions
    restart
    new user
    delete preferences
    reinstall DVDSP...
And below is what has helped:
    1. Download ProKitUpdate7.0
    2. Download newest Pacifist
    3. Open package ProKitUpdate7.0 with Pacifist
    4. Install package ProKitUpdate7.0 with administrator privileges with reaplace option enabled for all.
    5. Restart Mac
    Now DVDSPro works as usual.

Thank you very much for your help and apologies for my late reply, I've been quite busy recently.
The computer I'm using is newly bought iMac with OS X 10.8.2. A newer version of ProKitUpdate was already on my computer when I tried ProKitUpdate 7.0. Your solution doesn't seem to apply to mine but thank you for your kindness.
But I didn't give up and deleted Final Cut Studio 3 completely with FCS Remover, did the verify and repair thing in safe boot mode and reinstalled FS3 again. It's still the same.
I don't think there is anything I left out after reading all the web pages, searching all forums. If it doesn't get interfered by other installed programmes such as After Effects CS5.5 or Photoshop CS5.1, which I don't know how to find out, then it is the compatibility problem. I can't think of anything else. And in this case it was a big mistake buying the newest technology computer as I'm not willing to try out Final Cut Pro X and learn another DVD authoring programme.

I would be optimistic that this will get sorted out OK. Many people are successfully running FCS3 on ML.

  • Compressor/FCP quits unexpectedly possibly due to ProMedia plug-in

    Hi all
I am sending a finished project to Compressor from FCP, without rendering first. Much of the project is comprised of embedded Motion files. I keep getting a "quit unexpectedly possibly due to the ProMedia plug-in" alert. After repairing the HD, fixing permissions, zapping pram, trashing plists and re-installing the latest pro apps update, FCP still quits on Compressor with the above alert. The audio makes it through, but not the video. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.

Thanks David. The job will be delivered on DVD, so that's an extra render, yes? Would I render with an uncompressed or Animation codec before sending it to DVDSP?

  • DVD SP 2 won't open properly then unexpectedly quits

DVD SP2 usually opens with a screen asking to create a new project, open existing, etc. that isn't happening anymore. it opens with the log and assets windows. i manually open the menu editor. import an asset. sometimes i can try to bring it into the menu editor and i get no choice buttons. most of the time when i import an asset it shuts down and says dvd sp2 has unexpectedly quit. it worked fine before quicktime 7.0.4. i have dvd sp2.0.5, quicktime 7.0.4. i have reinstalled sp2, repaired permissions, trashed plist, trashed quicktime receipts and redownloaded and reinstalled quicktime 7.0.4. nothing changes. another curious thing is i can't open preferences in the toolbar of sp2.
    please help! i am desparate.

  • Subtitles with DVDSP...newbie please help...

    Hi,
I will be using my new Intel iMac 20-inch dual booting XP and OS X and will be my primary workhorse for my heavy duty DV editing and DVD authoring.
    My question is this:
My source is NTSC DV AVIs with timecode information. I would like to use the timecode information (DV timestamp) as subtitle. For testing purposes, I will be trying out Premiere Pro or Edius Pro or any other NLE software on XP to get my MPEG2 files out of the source AVI files. So, at what point do I use subtitling software to get my subtitles and add it to my video? Does DVDSP support importing subtitle information along with the video and audio tracks? Also, I don't want to burn the subtitles on top of my mpgs. Is there a way for me to add the subtitle as a separate track?
The confusing part is once I convert the AVIs to DVD compliant mpgs, the size of the mpgs will be significantly less compared to the AVIs. So, if thats the case, adding subtitles along with mpg in DVDSP will not sync with the video? I want to get the timestamp displayed as a subtitle the exactly as I see it when I play my video in my camcorder by turning on the datacode information on my Canon GL1.
    Rgds.
    Appreciate feedback.
    Rgds.

    Hi Moved2Mac,
If I understand your question correctly you might want to try this software http://www.titlefactory.com/
I have used this for quite a few projects. Not the easiest software to learn, but once you get the hang of it it can be very fast. You just have to prep your text correctly. It can spit out a text file in which DVDSP can generate the subtitles or bitmaps. Both with the proper timecoded scripts. Oh, it's a PC (Windows XP) app, if you still have your PC.

  • Question: Why does DVDSP "hang: when adding subtitles

I'm having a real problem adding subtitles to my 3.7 GB project. It's all built and I was in the process of adding subtitles to the 1 hr 30 minute film. Yesterday it worked fine, copying and pasting from a text application into subtitles I'm making as I go, but today it's been a nightmare.
I find after only two or there additions, I suddenly get the spinning wheel "program not responding" and have to force quit. I reopen the project and if I'm lucky I can add two or three subtitles, saving each time, before I get the"spinning wheel of frustration".
(problem posting this message so this is a repost)
I have no idea what's causing it. But it DVDSP at this stage of my project definitely doesn't like subtitles being edited, moved or played. It becomes unstable and then hangs.
I've downloaded the latest security update incase that helped, turned off the clock, (old habit) Nothing works.
A project that was going to take two hours to finish looks like taking two days now! I'll plod on but I could really do with some help.
    Any ideas?

  • How to control DVD player menu functions in DVDSP

I have built a DVD with DVDSP and have everything working as intended except for one thing.
When I press the Home button on the DVD remote, it goes to the DVD player's menu and shows a DVD icon, then when I select the DVD icon, it shows the title list with 4 titles:
    1. Warning (which has all User functions disabled)
    2. Chapter 1
    3. Warning (which I don't understand because there is only 1 warning track)
    4. Menu
I want to set this so when selecting the DVD icon you are directed to the DVD's main menu, and it doesn't display the title list at all.
Just to give more info, the way the DVD is set up is: In the DVD remote function area, I have my title, Menu and Return buttons all routed to my main menu.
There are 4 menus (Home, About, and 2 chapter menu pages), 4 tracks (First play = .25 sec Black which end jumps to a Warning and disclaimer track which end jumps to another .25 seconds of black which jumps to main menu. These have all user functions disabled. The 4th track is the main video with 16 chapters). There are no scripts.
I have tried this with many store bought DVDs and they behave differently. Most show a DVD icon then when that icon is selected, it goes to the main menu screen. Others behave by showing each chapter as a title after selecting dvd icon.
Do you have any suggestions on how to fix this? Any help would be much appreciated.
Thank you so much in advance!
Attached are 2x diagrams, how the dvd is currently acting, and how i'd like it to.

Finally, something new here lately!   (well, besides the new look)
In my 13 1/2 years working with DVD Studio Pro (starting back when it was 'simultaneously' Astarte DVDirector and Spruce Maestro) I've never seen a workflow that included the DVD player's system menu as a navigational component in the flow chart for a functional DVD.
    Hi T20,
First of all, are you sure you want to know the answer to this?
The area you bring up is almost a 'blue pill / red pill' kind of thing, or choosing to turn into a 'grasshopper'..., or something like that. Definitely a rabbit hole.  But if you're working for paying clients and are going into mass distribution, i.e., replication, then your question brings up a precisely the kind of multiply connected DVD specification components that are crucial to understand; especially working with an authoring system like DVD Studio Pro.
Of course, if you're good at following directions and would have the trust enough to carry out the successful experiment, then it could be a one-and-have-fun-getting-it-done operation...with full understanding of what just happened reserved for a later date.
Though, to answer your question fully here would take some doing.
Here's what I'm willing to share on this public board about the matter: The short answer would be to remove all of your warning material from the Title Domain in the VTS Spaces, i.e., eliminate the warning clip / black frame Tracks. You should have one Track in your project, according to the intent of the DVD Specifications for your project type.
Important Note: Putting a short duration warning or black frames in an entire VTS is a "best practice" promulgated for years out there that has gotten a lot of good authors in trouble in many types of players; errant navigation, player crashes, disc recalls, etc., and should not be done. In most cases, nothing should be put in a Track that you would not want the viewer to be able to Resume to; and more importantly, the DVD Studio Pro abstraction layer authoring system can not afford to have the first VTS 'wasted'. Real program content with video and however many audio and subtitle streams should reside in the first VTS for all DVD SP projects (more DVD Spec kinda stuff to go over the reasons why).
Once your project is setup optimally, then it's a matter of understanding the DVD Specification "Stopped State" and what both happens and what you want to happen afterwards; which depends on where you were when you got into the stopped state and other factors.
The below page images (unreadable, but to show there's quite a bit to it) are from the official DVD Specifications for Read Only Discs - Part III VIDEO SPECIFICATIONS.  The page image on the left starts the several page section in the DVD Specifications devoted to what's allowed for navigation commands between domains - and what navigation commands and (unfortunate) circumstances cause playback to go into the "5th domain" - the stopped state.  The Image on the Right starts the section in the specs for what happens and what's allowed by the remote control user operations (UOPs) between domains, including from the Stopped State.
The player will use what's allowed by spec in the UOPs to take you out of its setup menu and into the chosen target in the various domains. Though, I have found several players that pretty much do what they want in this regard, as well, but my method takes care of them, too (what player model are you using, may I ask?  I have over 200 players here, and might have that guy).
The somewhat challenging part is working with DVD SP's abstraction layer auto-programming so as to anticipate this revival of playback from the Stopped State - which never occurs from the authored First Play PGC, as well as player variances with options they allow from their system menus.
So an adjusted startup First Play program routing (looks kinda 'weird' in the DVD SP project interface) would then handle a chosen Menu to play from that players system setup screen, whether the viewer chooses the "Menu" or the one remaining "Title" option. It took me 3 years to figure this out, but has been working flawlessly for hundreds of replicated titles since the fall of 2006.
Good question, t20. It takes quite a bit to get me out my 'bat cave' these days. Also, I'm about to start up my old "TFDVD.com" DVD SP support site again soon (adding Scenarist Professional support), this time under what I hope to be a true "DVD Producers Guild", and it's great to see some of this kind of 'life' still out there!
My first major article for the new site is tentatively entitled "The Most Perfect DVD Startup Action" and I will, in 'excruciating detail', cover not only the many reasons a discs startup strategy is crucial, and how to implement the DVD Specification and DVD player experience based startup principles for various types of DVD Projects, but also how to keep control of navigation during startup from the Stopped State in players.  This article will have illustrated specific instructions for the DVD Studio Pro and Scenarist Professional authoring systems (Note to my good 'little monsters' from back in the day; this is not the same article from my 2001 article with a similar name).
    Take care,

  • Illustrator to Photoshop to DVDSP. Image cropped?

I have created graphics for a DVDSP menu in Illustrator. I think I need to export to Photoshop to divide into layers for different button states and then import into DVDSP. When I export a 720 x 480 image from Illustrator to Photoshop it is cropped, in some cases quite severely, down to almost the outside edges of the graphic elements in the image. Could anyone please tell me what I am doing wrong and if what I am doing is really necessary to get the file into DVDSP for use as a menu. I'm quite new to this and may be misunderstanding the manual
    TIA
    Michael
    Powerbook G4 1.67 GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

    Michael:
I select the objects in Illustrator, Copy them and Paste in PSD canvas . . . nothing special! But you can learn something about graphic files dimensions and solve the issues. These instructions are straight from DVDSP User Manual Chapter 2 Square Pixels in Graphics:
    ==============================================
Graphics programs use square pixels. If you set the dimensions of a graphic to 720 x 480 pixels (the NTSC frame size), you will notice that the drawing area of the graphic in the graphics program is not a 4:3 aspect ratio (it is a bit short). If you set a graphic to PAL dimensions (720 x 576 pixels), the drawing area you see in your graphics program is taller than 4:3.
Anything you put in the graphic will be distorted (either vertically stretched or
compressed, depending on your video standard) when viewed on a video monitor. If you draw a square, it will look like a rectangle. In some cases, the distortion is not great enough to worry about, but in most cases you should build your graphics with the distortion in mind.
To compensate for pixel differences between graphics and video, you need to build the graphics at one size, and then rescale them to the appropriate video dimensions, ...
    ==============================================
Working in Illustrator or Photoshop, you must start with a rectangle size of 720x534 and do all your design work in such dimension. Finally resize your file to 720x480 and import that resized file into DVDSP. Your graphics will look fine !!
If you prefer make your design in Illustrator, start creating a rectangle of 720x534. Select it and go to menu Object > Crope Area > Make. Make your design inside that area and finally make Export > Photoshop 72 dpi.
Open that file in Photoshop and do the resize.
When you became confortable with all these programs you'll find out your best workflow.
    Hope it helps !

  • Motion & Unexpected Quits

Well, I'm sure there's something that has transpired to affect my machine in the last few days since the advent of OS 10.4.4. I upgraded my Quicksilver machine to a dual 1.73MHz Sonnet Duet processor, an ATI 9800 Mac Edition (256MB) AGP video card and updated my OS to 10.4.4. My video suite is the FC Studio Upgrade with all the latest Software Updates. I've only been able to add Motion since the video card upgrade, so it's never run on this machine until recently and was not installed with the other FC Studio installs (FCP HD, DVDSP, ST Pro, etc.)
My problem is accessing my Movies folder. Any time I access that folder in the File Browser tab, the app quits. Each and every time. I've repaired permissions, verified the disk it resides on, opened and run files from other folders (internal and external) all with no issues whatever. Of course I could ignore the Movies folder and work from other locations, but why should there be one specific location that doesn't work? Can't accept that.
Is there anyone who might have some insight to share about this issue?

I updated my WMV Player to the latest version and my Movies folder problems have disappeared. Sorry if you've wasted any time reading these posts.
